I have nothing but praise for Craig's. My husband is an Mercedes aficionado of sorts (antique and…read morevintage models), and while he enjoys doing the work himself, sometimes he underestimates the complexity of the repairs. And since all of our MB's are approaching the 300,000 mile marker (those cars will run forever if you take good care of them!) they do require a bit of maintenance. Good thing we found Craig - his prices are reasonable, so repairs for our mini fleet of MB's doesn't break the bank. He's also honest - he doesn't try to push for unnecessary repairs, and he will show/explain the repairs that do need to be performed so that you understand what's going on and don't have to question the legitimacy of those repairs. Craig knows that my husband likes to inspect and tinker with the old broken parts, and Craig will save those for you if you ask him to. He will also gladly use parts that you source yourself, which saves a bundle since there's no mark up on the parts you supply yourself. How many auto repair shops will allow you to do that? He's also an MB genius - he knows every quirk and can sniff out even the most elusive issues when it comes to your car. My husband jokingly refers to him as the "MB Rain Man." :) MB's are their specialty, but they can perform repairs on other cars as well. I had a Ford Explorer a few years ago, and another car repair shop had botched some of the repairs. Craig not only fixed the botched work, but he wrote a letter to the other repair shop explaining what they'd found, why the repairs they'd performed were incorrect, and boxed up the destroyed parts so that we could recover our costs from the original repairs. Craig and his wife, Judy, are great people - they are always good for a chat and a smile, and their two golden retrievers are always there to greet you when you walk in the shop. I recommend them without reservation.

I had a budget(not cheapo) paint job done on my 10 year old, badly sun damaged car and here is my honest assessment of what was done: First of all, Frank and his son are very personable, nice guys, and listen to what you want done. I just wanted the car to look somewhat new again. They told me they could do my car in a week and it took over two weeks. Now, they do not have a drying booth, so they rely on mother nature which is what extended my car's finish time - no problem. When I went to pick up the car it looked great except for two baseball sized spots that were not clear coated properly(weird). They said it could be fixed after the paint settled. After having my car back for several weeks I started noticing problems that should not happen at an experienced body shop: there were a lot of scratch marks in window trim from the buffer, an inside cover piece for the mirror bolts was broken and repaired with faulty cement(not sure why the mirror was removed then I had to fix the plastic plate), there are a lot of sections with orange peel and improperly prepared/sanded base coat. The clear has sections that are thicker than others and there is pitting in one large section. You can see the problem areas through the clear because the clear is very smooth. On a positive note, the bodywork was well done and looks very smooth. There is no over-spray anywhere, so I know the masking was well done. My car looks pretty good from 5 or more feet away, but when you get closer you can really see the imperfections, especially at night with parking lot lights shining on it. I like to give local businesses my business, but I think I got a somewhat amateurish paint job from an established South Side body shop. For what they charged me I was not expecting show-car quality, but I also didn't expect mistakes. I will give them a chance to fix the mistakes.
