I've been a Scott customer for over 20 years, and took their recommendation to install a zone-type hot water heater. It was expensive but came with a manufacturer lifetime warranty. The problem is, I've had to replace the tank several times, and I can't afford to keep paying. $3,376.34 is what they're charging me now, to install the same system again, it's now the 4th time they've installed it in 12 years. I'm a senior citizen and I've always relied on their annual contract, but when I ask why they keep installing the same system, all they say is, it must be my fault. read more

After canceling my account with Scott because of unbelievably poor service over eight years, my condo association mistakenly had them fix my new boiler. Because this repair would have been free if done by my new company, I requested documentation so I could seek reimbursement from the new company. I called twice, leaving a message on the Scott owner's voicemail. No response either time. In my previous review, I requested no further contact. The owner contacted me anyway to argue with me. I REQUEST NO FURTHER CONTACT and will report it as harassment if it occurs. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. They are clueless and irresponsible. This company is shady with their practices. They told me my house had no heat therefore a technician had to come to manually start our boiler which automatically generated a $250 dollar bill. The technician came over to the house and said there was no point in him even coming because we had heat & oil. I called Kevin and told him I was not paying that bill. He didn't care what we had to say other than to pay up or face getting no oil and mentioned we were due for delivery immediately. I told him that if he wouldn't resolve the issue I'd go to his boss or whoever was above him and solve the matter. The next day he called my wife and left a voicemail that they removed the $250 bill. I told Kevin I no longer wanted their services and I was going to a different company. Then a few hours later a letter from them saying they cancelled service. Kevin is inept at his job and needs to learn how to be more respectful and improve communication. I moved onto a different company and couldn't be happier. Stay away from these people! read more

In early autumn of this year, my oil-fired boiler gave out and a puddle of water appeared in front of it. Now, I know nothing about plumbing, but a friend of mine is a plumber and stopped by to take a look."You've got a crack in the bottom of your boiler, man" he told me. "You're gonna need a new system." But I had a maintenance agreement with Scott Energy (over $200/year) so I called 'em to see what they could do. A repairman arrived and I told him what my friend had said. But he conducted his own examination and said: Good news! Your friend was wrong! He made some "repairs" and I received a bill for $430.oo. It seemed high to me, but I was happy to pay it if it meant I didn't have to buy a new system. But the next time I turned on my newly "fixed" boiler KA-POW! Downstairs I ran and found a puddle of water identical to the one that had led me to call Scott in the first place. So I called my plumber friend again and he came back and found the crack in my boiler that Scott Energy told me I didn't have -- you could see it!!. I showed my friend the $430.oo bill and he hit the ceiling. He said he knew one of the owners at Scott and put in a call to the guy because, surely, he would want to know about this and refund my money and apologize. But he never returned my friend's call, nor did he return the several messages I left him. After a few days later, though, I received a call from someone else at Scott Energy. I told him my story, but instead of apologising he explained that, while I was entitled to a refund for the incompetent labor ($130), it was my tough luck that I'd taken delivery on $300 worth of parts. Of course I immediately told him the parts were like new and he was welcome to come to my house and retrieve them. But he demurred. I would need some of those parts for my new system, he explained. Why should he take them back? Wasn't I on the premises when the "repair" work was done? Wasn't I there when the parts were delivered? I pointed out that the reason I called Scott Energy in the first place was that I know nothing about plumbing. I had not asked for a single one of those parts, but had relied on their expert technician to tell me what I needed. Around and around we went, and I began to get angry. I was instructed to "calm down" and was accused of being "excitable". I pointed out that Scott Energy had $430 of my money and if he would just come and get his parts and pay me back, I would not only calm down but never, ever bother Scott Energy again. At last he relented. It was a long and stressful phone call, but a couple of hours later my phone lit up. It was Scott Energy! At last, I figured, they were calling to apologize But, no. They were calling to convince me to purchase my new system from good old Scott Energy! Their salesman explained that they could give me a fine deal and -- lucky me! -- they could service it, too! I declined as politely as I could. This company has nothing to recommend it. Their fuel prices are not particularly cheap, their repair people are unreliable and once Scott Energy gets ahold of your money, look out! They won't be giving it back without a fight. read more

Was a customer for many years, always running a substantial credit balance thru auto-pay system; their prices for fuel and service weren't cheap but all was fine, until recently I received an auto-scheduled delivery of oil at $6.82/gallon; did some checking and that seemed very high so I terminated their auto-delivery service. So far, so good. However, when I did that I was informed they would not perform a replacement of my water heater (which they had sold and installed), even though the work was scheduled in two weeks and I'd paid a 1/3 deposit nearly a month before. Further, beyond refusing to do the agreed and partly-paid work, they refused to complete the processing of my warranty claim against the manufacturer, leaving me on my own for what they said was a very difficult process. My roommate pay a propane bill and then moved out. The check clear and the account had 0 balance. A week later I notice that the balance of the account was at 607.00. Which is the amount that my roommate pay. When I called and asked Scotts about the account. Kevin Scott said that my ex roommate called and had the money transferred into a different account. Only my name was on the account. This company does very shady business and Kevin does whatever he wants. Stay far way from them at all cost. read more

I am mind boggled that no one has reviewed this company! They are AMAZING! They have been around since 1946 - so they clearly know what they are doing and their customer service is phenomenal - you know... respectful, helpful - the way it should and you would want it to be when you know you are going to be dropping $ PLUS the $ is right! On a Monday, at 8:00am a few days before Christmas I sent a smile frantic, new homeowner email to Kevin Kelleher and received a call at 8:45am. Kevin offered to hop in the car and come by the house to check things out and get us setup with an oil delivery program. He explained things about our heating system that our inspector hadn't even mentioned and made some great suggestions for conserving energy. We have been at ease AND warm since we signed up with Scott Energy. If you are debating companies right now or contemplating switching. We are new to owning a house fueled by propane, and Scott Energy has erased all sources of intimidation and stress. Adam Scott personally came over to inspect our system and walk us through the different components, despite not needing a fill right away (i.e., no charge). On more than one occasion, we have been negligent about watching our levels and have placed a desperate call for a fill ASAP. The folks on the phone are kind and understanding, and they have gotten the truck over more quickly than I could've expected (in less than 30 minutes today!). This is exactly the type of personal service that you would want to get from a local company, and I'm so glad we're using Scott Energy rather than one of the big name companies. read more

Tried to work with them for two years since Clarke Brothers sold their business to Scott. Their customer service and in the end, service itself was horrible. We had a leaking pipe on a Sunday morning at church and it took hours to get someone here who did a bad patch job. They said they couldn't get the "real" repair done for another 10 days and when they did we couldn't believe the bill. We eventually got someone else to do our maintenance work but kept the oil contract. Our maintenance person suggested having Scott do the annual tune ups on the boilers as they could get the parts cheaper than he could. However even he railed at the bill we we got just for the annual tune ups. Two of us also had Scott at our private residences. One called and said "I have no heat and no hot water" and was told "I can schedule you for next week." NO, you don't understand I have no heat and no hot water and was again told they could schedule her next week. I called to complain about the large bill for my tune ups and was told "you get what you pay for." Tried unsuccessfully to talk to someone "higher up" before we decided to switch companies and when we called to cancel I was transferred to someone who asked "did you talk to the service manager?" Yes, he's the one who told me you get what you pay for and I said "Don't pull that card with me" when we hadn't been satisfied with what we had paid for and other companies charge less! read more
