When I was moving things from the truck to the storage room there were several employees removing snow and ice. The person who checked me in was great. She took time to explain the facility and then walked to the storage room to make sure my access code worked and the room was acceptable to me. Their "value coverage" that they force on you? It's not insurance, it's an indemnity waiver you pay for. They won't even cover damage from their own negligence per the agreement! I had damage to my items in storage, tried to contact the facility for a week before I removed the irreplaceable items to try and have them repaired. After involving the storagemart call center, I was only given a claims form that stated items must be reported damaged before being removed (which was not mentioned anywhere in the signed agreement), and a promise that someone would call me. When I finally made contact with someone calling themselves the interim manager, he took one look in the unit, to assess the damage to my remaining items I assumed. Seems they only wanted proof that the ceiling didnt have a hole causing the damage, as it appears that is the only thing they will cover. Now it's just shrugs and ignored emails. I have had this unit for years, never had any issues when Bruce owned it. As soon as storagemart took over, it has turned into a dump. No plowing, no repairs to facility, "climate controlled" units are a petri dish, nobody answers the phone, nobody cares. But hey, it's just irreplaceable baby pictures, right?

I had 4 good years of service and security UNTIL it came time to empty my unit and move my…read morebelongings from Minnesota to Arizona. I couldn't get the manager to call me back to give my 10 day vacate notice, even though I left five messages. I emailed and got no response. I finally got hold of her on the 6th try and gave my vacate day of July 9, more than 10 days away. On July 9, the unit was emptied and I swept it out. I tried four times to confirm with the manager that this was my last day. No manager to be found - only a sign on the door that the manager was on the property and to look up and down the aisles. I did. No manager and the three other customers on site said they had not seen the manager. On July 23, I received my refund for the 22 days of the month for which I had pre-paid. Our rate of $218 per month, pro-rated for 9 days of occupancy, should have resulted in a refund of $154. NOPE. $111.58. They are great until they aren't. If you want a storage unit forever, this is a good place. If you ever need to empty your unit, you will get screwed.

Not only do you need a code (that you set yourself) to get in the gate, you also need a different one to get in the building itself where I had my things stored. The customer service here is outstanding and very professional. I never had any issues with trying to get in touch with someone on the rare occasion that I needed to. The storage areas are clean and very well lit and maintained, and it's one of the more reasonably priced facilities that I was able to find. Would highly recommend these folks if you are in need!

What a fantastic storage facility! I had a large unit there for about two and a half years. During…read morethat whole time, they never raised my rent! Due to the top-notch security system, I never had any problems getting access to my unit. No one ever broke into it either. The system is set up where you have to input a unique personal code to even enter the property. Nice little protective measure, right there at the street. Then you drive to your unit, which can be either indoors or outdoors. Mine was inside, because I wanted a warmer, drive-up space for all my stuff. Having the car parked inside--right next to the unit--is very convenient. There are other features that keep everything secure. For example, the doors to the building housing the indoor units will not open unless a valid personal code has been input at the entrance gate. Also, the unique personal codes are linked to specific storage units. So you have to unlock and enter your unit, or else the system will alert an on-site employee. Translation: anyone who is not authorized to enter the property will be unable to gain access to any storage units. Even the people who have legitimate units can only enter their own particular storage spaces. Speaking of security, there are surveillance cameras around the property and inside the buildings. A little redundancy there, but additional layers of security and protection are always reassuring. And you can use your own lock, whatever you prefer. One unusual feature is that the buildings are tucked into a carved-out area of a hillside. That shields everything from the prevailing weather patterns coming out of the north, northwest and west. This makes for warmer conditions. Even during winter visits to my storage units, the 'icebergs' in the wheel wells of my car would start melting and fall off. This facility is situated right on the edge of a large commercial area that contains just about every type of store or restaurant you might need to visit. Closeness to Costco (~ 1 mile away) was helpful to me, because I was able to purchase some inexpensive shelving that helped me get my unit better organized. There's also a Salvation Army Thrift Store nearby. They accepted all my donations of furniture and other salable items when the time came to let go of certain possessions (yes it happens!) and get myself moved out of state on short notice. Finally, the people who work for North Star are very professional, honest and downright helpful. My thanks to you two--Alec and Albert--for the positive difference that you made in my life!
