Since my first visit last week I have been talking up this place to all my friends and relatives. Now I understand completely what people mean when they say love at first bite. The fries (sigh!) The burgers (my heart skips a beat) ! At last, my love has come ! Oh yes, I might spend a tad more, or wait a minute more but true love is well worth it. I had previously had a broken heart from Pearls in South Shore, but now I understand that that was merely a prelude to finding real love in a plate and a basket on Park Street. Delicious. I could totally see this place on an episode of Food Network's Diners, Drives, and Dives...Gourmet caliber ingredients and cooking techniques applied to your American food icons: burgers & dogs & fries. Their cheese burger is cooked to order, and let me just say that their patties are seasoned to perfection. Buns are soft yet have a bit of toasty texture to it, and their special sauce is well..special! Their garlic scampi fries are dangerously delicious- you can't stop eating them. One order is enough for 2 people, so don't order two thinking it's like in and out size servings. I also had their deep fried hot dog which was an immediate legend in my mind. Each time you bit the sausage it had a snappy crunch to it, with smoky, salty, buttery, meat that follows. Awesome. read more

I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, with bacon, tomatoes and grilled onions for $8. It was OK, pricey but nothing special. The main reason for the one star rating is because of the service and prices. The chubby girl at the register was rude and didn't seem to care about our order. When we asked her questions about the menu she gave us a weird look and didn't seem to want to explain anything. The cooks were socializing the entire time while we waited for our order. 15 minutes went by and when we asked about our order, the chubby girl said "Soon" without even acknowledging us. I had the special burger and it was really good really fresh tasting the Blackberry sauce wasn't too overbearing would have liked the aioli to be a bit stronger on the burger. I had a hamburger to die for last week. Sweet peppers and an aioli sauce that was amazing. This wasn't any ordinary burger - no way. You have a beer next door in Lucky 13 and they come right over with your food. There was a line of students out the door, but my food came in 5 minutes. Yeah, they charge extra for credit cards, but so what? These guys are just trying to keep their costs down. Bring cash! read more

Scolari's is one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda and definitely the best burger place. I've had most of the burgers including their specials, and I have never been let down. Their garlic fries and buffalo fries are also good. Also very cool that they deliver to the bar next door. Taste-wise the best cheeseburger I've ever had. Price-wise a little steep. You absolutely have to try the buffalo fries, genius.

Good spot to get a burger and some buffalo fries. But the other major plus is that there is a bar right next door and Scolari's will bring your food order over if they ain't too busy. Friend and I came here 3 times so far for their burgers. I prefer mine well done. The bun and meat quality if up there. One of the better beef patties you can get in Alameda. The buns are huge fluffy (that's what she said). Everything it comes with just works. The fries carry a lot of flavor and they go best with ranch. The employees here are nice and down to earth folks. I can't wait to see their truck floating around town. I give this place 4.5 stars. Minus half a star for pretty pricey food. 2 cheeseburgers, 1 order of fries & 2 drinks put us in the $30 range. It's still a place to visit here and there though. I'll keep crawling back and still follow them on Facebook for their daily menu's ;) read more

I had the bacon blue cheese portabello mushroom burger and my girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich. I couldn't image it any better, that was the best burger I've ever had. The garlic fries are also really good, crispy and soggy at the same time! Yummm!! Definitely will be back to try out there other food. read more

Hard for me to believe people giving this place lower than 4 stars. Maybe it's a confusion in expectations. This is creative comfort food. Is everything great - no. But is it good, actually, great 99% of the time. YES. The burgers, fries, hush puppies, zeppoles and cheesecakes are fantabulous. Mike and the ladies are always friendly and more than attentive. If you want a high end restaurant with chandeliers and waiters in tuxedos this is not it and Scolaris was never meant to be that. Thanks Mike. I love this place! You get what you pay for... so don't complain about the price. There is not better product being sold in any sit-down restaurant on Park St. This is easily the best burger in Alameda. Their special seasonal items never disappoint. (Notably, the Lebanon bologna sandwich, the pork belly burger.) The Buffalo fries wake me up at night like a siren's call. The Cindy's (name?) Salad is delicious and fresh every time. Produce is always, always fresh. Even the turkey sandwich which could be banal makes me want to cheer. I think they know what they're doing and are great at it! They should be on Guy Fieri's Triple D. read more

You can't go wrong with a meal from Scolari's. The hush puppies are absolutely incredible and shows what Scolari's does best. They can take items that sound routine and turn them into something special. If they have them on the menu, you simply have to try them. The cheeseburger is great and the Stromboli is always a favorite. There is very limited seating but that just presents the opportunity to have great food with a tasty beer next door. I'd been up and down Park Street all week, and had looked for a sign that said "Scolari's" but I never saw one. I knew it was supposed to be next door to The Lucky 13, but I never saw a sign from the street as I had been making my way through my week of "Eating Alameda." My buddy, who's lived on The Island for about 20 years, got home mid-afternoon and said he was in need of burger and brew, and he instantly said "Let's go to Scolari's." As it had been on my list of "must try"s, I was more than ready. I had only gone other places because I never saw the sign. I know I left a five-star for Alameda Grill, and I still think they're grand, for THE KIND OF BURGER IT IS, but Scolari's takes "burger" to the next level, and in a GOOD WAY! We each ordered their cheeseburger, medium-rare, w/bacon. The woman at the counter went to enter the order and her computer was dead. Ironic...and in a good way,...because my buddy is one of the best techs in the Bay Area,. He was able to reboot the machine and we had our burgers ordered, with fries, and an order of free hushpuppies as a reward. We grabbed our table number and headed next door to Lucky 13 for a pair of Pliny the Elders to sip while we waited. Damn fine beer, damn cool bar! One of the best-feeling bars I've been in in awhile, too. Had enough time to savor a few sips and watch some lovely scenery walk by when the girl from Scolari's brought our burgers over. All I can say is it was absolute perfection...a freakin' work of burger art. Let me start by saying we asked for medium-rare burgers, and that is EXACTLY what we got. Every time I've ever asked for medium-rare anywhere, I've gotten a hard-cooked brick of well-done heinousness. This was a true medium rare burger. And it was very easy to tell that the meat had NEVER BEEN FROZEN. It had that perfect texture that previously-frozen meat never has. Cheese, bacon, veggies, everything...just piled on like pieces of a sculpture, with a thick pick through the middle. Whereas The Red Onion's "piling on excess" was just too much and destroyed the whole burger experience, Scolari's was the precise opposite in its perfect execution. I was in awe. Complete burger-gasm achieved. The fries were excellent, and I had one of the hushpuppies...now THAT is a whole 'nuther game, right there. Really good...not your typical "hushpuppy" by any stretch of the imagination...it contained bits of corn and other wondrousness, not just greasy cornmeal, with a savory-sweet flavor and some sort of whipped honey to dip 'em in...the whole savory-sweet thing was a mind-blowing way to end it after all that burger goodness. Sorry Alameda Grill, you've been knocked down one knotch in my Eating Alameda Heirarchy. While I would still go there for a "fast burger on the run", when I move to this marvelous little Island next year, Scolari's will be my first choice when that burger itch needs a-scratchin'...kudos Scolari's! read more

Was my birthday weekend. Hit the Alameda Antique Peddlers Fair (So big, so cool, check it out!) and then hit Scolari's on our way out of town. So yummy! The stromboli is out of this world. Tons of flavor, great dough and it's huuuge! We also ordered the scampi fries were which were fantastic but very spicy and def make for some smelly burps later on. I was so pleasantly surprised by Scolari's! As a transplanted East Coaster, I'm always suspicious of pizza in California but Scolari's was surprisingly close! Their other items looked fantastic -- a kind of upscale fast food. My companion got the vegan "B"LT which was frankly the best vegan BLT I've ever had. And the chef took time to explain just how he makes the "B"! True that there is limited seating and it's not a place to go to hang out. But, the food is just lovely, the service extremely friendly. Fantastic. The cashier recommended the cherry bombs. Goat cheese + spices + deep fried over a bed of lettuce = YES PLZ. I wasn't hungry enough for a full burger, but the cashier recommended the cherry bombs with just an extra patty, so I went with that. Fantastic. Their meat is awesome. Spoke to the cashier aout it briefly and she said it was said it was grass-fed, local, all that good stuff, and I loved it. It had some real flavor, but didn't go so far as to be excessively gamey. I ended up eating a good bit of the burger patty on its own without any condiment, really good ground beef. I actually might have to ask them who their supplier is. In all, really solid. If I lived in the area I'd definitely be a regular. As it is, I'll probably drive the half hour to eat here occasional. read more

Simple. Best burger I've had in a restaurant. Meat was well seasoned, not dense, perfectly cooked and juicy (we're talking 6-7 napkins later-juicy). Fries were made from scratch and cooked well. This was our first visit today and we sat at the counter watching the folks cook and prep. Everyone was friendly, the chef and the cashier asked us how we enjoyed everything. It was a great experience. I know a lot of folks take the food next door to Luck13 bar and we'll do that next time too. The "standard" menu is short and simple, but the specials list appears to be where all the hot little gems are. Lots of variety and it gives the appearance of fresh, creative food. Scolari's is becoming one of my faves in the area. This CASH ONLY joint is next to Lucky 13 so it's great to pair amazing food with amazing beer. Of note, they change their menu daily, but have a number of standbys: Buffalo Fries - good french fries with celery and carrots delicious buffalo sauce and generous amount of blue cheese crumbles. SO GOOD. Stromboli and Falafel burger are on the regular menu too and very good. My husband loves any style burger from there. I've also had a couple deli-type sandwiches turkey & swiss with great aioli. The focaccia-style bread is amazing, I wonder if they make it in-house? Anyways, this place is consistent and delicious! read more

it was difficult to choose something from their menu bc everything sounded AWESOME...and then people's food started coming out and everything looked delicious! everything on this menu i could see myself ordering, it had such a large, unique variety of food offerings. i landed on the mozzerela sandwich with tomatoes, onion, arugula, and pesto on ciabatta! it was SO delicious...and it was such a hefty portion too, i should've probably split it in half and saved it. i also got a half order of fries which was HUGE btw so beware... some guy ordered a ricotta, mozzerella, and spinach pizza which he also RAVED about as well. someone in our group ordered the hush puppies...OUTSTANDING. i think it was the best hushpuppy i'd ever tasted..it had a crispy shell but a light corn center, it was SO good. it came with a side of cayenne hunny butter, it was a perfect compliment to those. friendly quick service...such a nice little place, try it out for sure! read more

Oh Scolari's how I LOVE YOU!!! I only wish you were bigger so we could come in and sit down instead of ordering to go. This place by far is the best foodie place in the whole of ALAMEDA.! I have tried practically every thing on the menu and have not been disappointed or have ever been a time in which I didn't like something. Anything you want to try here is great my all time fav's are the burgers, hush puppies, and zeppoles yummmm!!! Anyone who gives them a bad review is just too picky. Remember this place is owned by a bar and not a 5 start restaurant so keep that in mind when you write a review and give them the credit they deserve!!!! read more

The first time I visited this place, I fell in love with the falafel burger and scampi garlic fries. Our meal was full of nice flavors, unique, and filling. The second time we made our order to go, same items. This time, we still loved the falafel burger, but the fries were a bit greasy. Since this was a to-go order, I assumed that was why the fries came out greasy. Boy was I wrong. Our next order was placed to eat next door at the Lucky 13, and we only ordered the scampi garlic fries. Although the fries had the same delicious piles of garlic, there was also an added pile of grease. I had to roll the fries to one side to get them out of the oil spill. Yet, because I'm a garlic and fry fiend, I finished most of the order. The next day my stomach (and my partner's) was in knots for most of the day. It was so bad that I wanted to call the restaurant and complain, but decided against it. I just won't order their fries anymore. Even though the garlic is to die for, I cannot tolerate another pint of oil in my belly. For that, Scolari's gets 3 stars. Advice: replenish your frying oil often. Dat's nasty! read more
