I've been a customer for 20 years on automatic delivery of oil. This is the second year, despite being on automatic that I have run out of fuel and the house froze. Sclafani was a good company, I had them for 15 years, good service and on time deliveries, decent price, never a problem. Since Burke took over Sclafani they have consistently overcharged by more than a dollar per gallon. Many times, closer to $2.00 a gallon more then market. When prices were the highest last winter, they would run around topping off tanks. I got tired of calling them on every single delivery for a price adjustment. This current adjustment was $1.57 per gallon and still more expensive than my delivery two weeks ago. Back in February of 2023 I had cancelled my account with them and was told today 11/07 on the phone that my account had been put on hold not cancelled. What?! Additionally, just two weeks ago, I had my tank filled by another provider. Today they said they somehow fit forty more gallons of fuel in the tank, how? The current fuel charge today was $5.289 per gallon, $1.68 over the market rate I paid 2 weeks ago at $3.60 per gallon. Get rid of them, get another provider before you go broke. For those people that still use them for oil delivery you are going to have to make a phone call and check the market rate of oil. If I could give 0 stars I would. Ever since Burke got involved with Sclafani they have been absolute trash. Prices are outrageous. Customer service is terrible. They have called me EVERYTIME before delivery to confirm. II have used them for years. Two deliveries ago there was no call and then a $800 bill in my mailbox. I spoke with "customer service" and this girl had no idea what she was talking about. Every sentence was contradiction to the last thing she said. Then at the end she asks so I can take you off the may cancel list. Who says that?!! This delivery they actually called and I said no do not send anyone here and note in my file we are no longer using you for Oil. A truck delivers to my house with another $700+ plus bill. I called and the customer service and lack of care was just something I have never heard of before. I have been in customer service for 15 years, I'm embarrassed for them. I waited over 45 for a manager or supervisor to call me back, at which point I couldn't wait anymore so I called back. The girl who picked up the phone had me waiting over 10 minutes for a manager to get on the phone. He tried to offer me the "lowest price" for oil. I said I am not paying a single dollar for a delivery I did not request and specifically said no to. He tried to offer me the lowest price like that was a good solution. $0.00 is the only price I will take or come take your oil back. Go with someone else, there are so many other companies that offer the same services, oil and propane and truly care about there customers. read more

I have been a Sclafani customer for years, and never had a single problem. Their oil prices were competitive.. not the cheapest, not the highest... but they delivered on time, and I never had a problem with their oil. This year, I tried to call to get a delivery, but nobody answered any of the three times I called. I got into their waiting system, and waited on speaker phone 10 minutes, 10 minutes then 15 minutes, spread out during the day. No one ever picked up. The message system gave the option to call me back, but I wanted to talk to a rep... and since they weren't answering, I could not trust there was anyone in the office to call me back. Oh and by the way, I also called Burke, since they bought them. No answer there, either. And the exact same messages... an ad, and offer to leave message. It should be simple: Order oil, get oil, pay for oil. What happened? I worried when Burke bought Sclafani, now my fears are realized. I went to a different company, of course. read more

I used Sclafani for oil delivery for over 15 years. Always trusted their price and service. After they were took over by Burke. I still continue use them. Big mistake! Today I ordered oil from Sclafani 01/27/2023 oil price $6.01 per gallon. I suspected the price it is a bit high. So for the first time I looked up to compare the price and called other companies, $4.15 per gallon and delivery next day. That will be $279 more for this order I will be paying to Sclafani if I didn't look up. My last two orders from Sclafani are 150 gallons on 12/23 for $5.88 and 11/30 for $5.779. I used them once my parents moved away.. ever since burke bought them their oil prices started to be a solid 1.50 to 2.00 per gallon more than EVERY OTHER provider in the area.. on top of that their level of service collapsed in my opinion.. Then they had the gumption to report me to collections for a $165 part they never installed . No heat starting Wednesday and the AMAZING tech team came within just a couple of hours to find my boiler had a crack in it. As a quick and VERY needed fix they put a sealant to hold it over until a replacement can be put in. Today - a PHENOMENAL crew of 4 men (IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES - my boiler is in an out building) busted their humps to put a brand new unit in with nothing but PROFESSIONALISM, TECHNICAL SKILLS UNMATCHED BY MANY and A FRIENDLY and UNDERSTANDING disposition! Still waiting for a refund. New boiler using 4 x the amount of oil after YOUR service. Needed to get another company immediately to get it right. I guess you want to sell 4 X the normal amount of oil by running inefficient. But this one would have shut down by now and I would get charged an "emergency" call. Had soot all over the place, where everything was clean and like new! Didn't vacuum, or even change the nozzle! CROOKS! STAY AWAY!! People on phone are rude even when I was going to give them a chance to get it right. They did not want to come here on my schedule, even after I took a day off from work for them to come the first time. Told me to take ANOTHER day off. We have used Sclafani for years. Reasonable prices, professional and friendly services. Budget plan works great. I never have to worry about running out of oil in the middle of the night. I know I can rely on them if there is an emergency. We also have a service contract to keep our system working at peak performance. I like that they are a local, family-owned business. read more

I've been using Sclafani for many years. They have a fairly inexpensive oil price and then charge for the service contract. I feel this is the most fair and predictable manner to manage your heating costs. I'm typically able to get a delivery during the late summer at a nice low cost and then another purchase around January and maybe in March. The cleaning and servicing is done roughly on a yearly basis. The oil is apparently high quality and I rarely have an outage on either of my oil fired systems. I do manage oil levels myself and I like to buy when the price is lower if I can. If you compare the total cost, Sclafani tends to save you about $500 a year compared to in-discounted major competitors. For what it's worth, I always fill the 550 gallon tank with any delivery and it's always more than 150 gallon delivery and I use my credit card that gives me 2% back and pay in full. read more

Wow. Sclafani and their great service department figured out what was wrong with my aging furnace and it's running perfectly now. It kept stopping, and even though I don't have a service contract with them, Sclafani always sent a technician promptly. One service guy in particular took the extra time to see if any further problems could be anticipated. I'm really surprised to see all the one stars here. I just have to say if you're nice to people, they'll be nice to you. Sclafani did the best they could and I feel really appreciated just being thanked. Nice folks all around. read more

I have had minor issues with Sclafani over the 2 winters that we have used them to provide Fuel Oil for our home, but they just crossed the line. I just received an unannounced fuel oil delivery which cost me nearly $600. When I called their office, they told me that they left a message on my voicemail, but I never received a message. We double checked the phone number they said they called and it was, in fact, my cell phone. Again, no message was ever received. I was charged a price per gallon for the fuel oil on Tue, even though my delivery went out on Wed. The price on Wed was less than the price on Tue. Do you pay yesterday's gas prices when you fill your car? No, you do not. And all this as the weather has been beautiful and warm. I absolutely did not need fuel oil. I have canceled all deliveries from Sclafani Oil and will be using a different provider next winter. read more

I called on Monday for oil delivery, we were low as my son had been admitted to the hospital for quite some time. The woman told me it would come on Wednesday. Wednesday comes and we get a call the driver is refusing to deliver due to an extremely small piece of ice at the bottom of the driveway. I called and told them the area where there is ice is not my property and I need delivery due to my son just getting back home. The woman just kept repeating like a robot that the drivers make the decision. No longer use this company for anything. Today was a customer service disappointment the likes of which I've never experienced. I called to schedule my family's yearly burner maintenance appointment, which is a requirement to renew our contract with the company. As such, it seemed like a simple enough task. I called at 3:50 and was told "Sure, let me just put you on hold for a second." (Exact words) FORTY minutes later, I finally gave up on the person, hung up, and called back. This time, when a rep answered, I repeated my need to schedule this appointment and she informed me that the office was closed. She told me that they closed at 4:00. I hadn't known that they were closing at 4:00 but I told her I'd been on hold since before that time and she said "Well, the office is closed now." I asked her if that meant that they had just put me on hold and then closed the office and she said "Yeah. That's possible." (Again, exact words) This is a company that doesn't care about its customers or their time. Even someone coming back on the phone and just saying they were sorry but they had to close would be far more understandable. I joined Yelp for the chance to give positive feedback. This company cannot be trusted. They will sabotage your heating system and charge you for repairing it. One of their practices is to let out the air in your expansion tank damaging it; Then they charge you for a new one. They did it to me but I saw the repairman doing it and refused to pay for the new one. Later I learned that my friend had it done to him. They also mix metal fitting such as galvanize and brass causing the fitting to corrode causing water to leak and creating a flood. Stay away from them. Will never, ever do business with this establishment again. They delivered fuel that I paid for (by leaving a check on my oil pipe) to my neighbors home and refused to rectify the situation. When I telephoned the next day, the owner was extremely rude, unprofessional ( to the point of asking me my salary) and absolutely refused to accept responsibility for her firms error. This place is beyond horrible! Reps came out 4 time s and couldn't fix air conditioning issue. Kept saying it's the thermostat. We purchased 5 new thermostats and still no resolution . Then they told us we need an electrician. Election came and went and still same issue . I call them after 4 And get their answering service . I leave a message asking for immediate help because it's been over a month and Bc it's hot and we're back to square one . First the owner calls my husband and Is going off on him so he hangs up. I then call her and she's telling me that she's going to call the police and how did I find her unlisted #. She sounds like she's drunk ( um, you called from this number and I'm calling you back.) she went on screaming and yelling about how we bought a faulty thermostat and they're not coming back out and how I have her company 'up in arms ' and this is not an emergency . Not even worth the one star however one cannot post without 1. I have been a customer for nearly 10 years. I had placed an order for oil at 7am one morning was told delivery would be for next day. I called next day to have them adjust price since price had dropped by 10 cents a gallon. They would not. Their website says will match any competitor's price but not their own. I told them that they lost a customer in me, and I also told them I would never refer or recommend them to anyone. I have used Sclafani for about 5 years now for COD deliveries and have never had a problem with their service. I have called around in the past to find the best price and they have always been the lowest. Any of the staff I have dealt with over the phone have always been nice and professional. Even on short notice they have always gotten my delivery out the next business day. I however cannot comment on their contract services or automatic delivery as I have never used them. As far as standard call in COD deliveries they are 5 stars to me. They also keep your credit card info on file so you don't have your card on hand every time you order. read more

They are criminal in the way they gouge people in their prices! Their licensed technician said it would be a day's labor and a prorate on the boiler that failed, then we get a proposal from them for $10,000 dollars. I honestly thought they had a typo of an extra zero based solely on the conversation with their own technician. I look up the cost of the boiler and it retails for $2200. The technician said it was a "one cut" and everything else was in good shape and would be reused. The proposal even said in quotes "one cut" but when we asked them that they said it wasn't (odd since they wrote that on the proposal) We have since gotten 3 other estimates all in the $4-5k range...so please be careful they were trying to steal an extra $5k dollars to line their pockets for one day of work. read more

Do NOT even consider Sclafani Energy if you're looking for reliable and consistent heating oil delivery in Westchester County. There are much better options out there. Sclafani has proven time and again to be incapable of reliably servicing the community during the winter with their equipment and whomever you speak to at the home office makes every excuse as to why and often blames the homeowner for all the reasons why they can't reliably deliver heating oil to your home - not once taking ownership for their shortcomings and lack of dependability. It wasn't always this bad and we've certainly had far worse winters than this, but their latest crop of drivers are completely inexperienced and incapable of navigating the driveways of Westchester County during the winter. If you can't service the Westchester community properly and exhibit a firm grip of the terrain you serve, then you shouldn't be operational in this market. Stick to the city... We ordered heating oil in advance of snowstorm and they said they weren't rolling trucks ahead of the storm as a precaution and would deliver as soon as storm passed the following day. Knowing this we had our driveway plowed, we also had it salted AND sanded 2x and while there may be a patch of snow here and there, their driver continued to refuse delivery 4x in a single week and we've had to resort to 10-20 gallons of diesel fuel as a stop-gap measure while we find a more reliable service. Don't waster your money with this unreliable heating oil company. Other providers have a mix of vehicles to service all kinds of driveways and homes that may be challenging or require smaller trucks to navigate. Sclafani only does it their way and it's not the most reliable or dependable way. During winter you want a reliable heating oil service provider and Sclafani is far from reliable in my experience with them. read more

We signed an agreement with Sclafani, on September 15th, 2012. Budget plan @$185 per month for 12 months. Prior to signing this agreement we spoke with Sclafani on 3 different occasions to discuss the terms. We specifically discussed the automatic deliveries. We specifically asked if there is no need for oil when the next delivery is scheduled, we were told on 3 calls yes, we can hold off on delivery. We know our usage, lived in our home for 13 years. How would we do that we asked? When we call in to make our payment on the 15th of every month, advise the person taking the payment. OK, so Sclafani fills our 550 gallon tank a day later. Around November 17th, Sclafani sends out another truck to fill again. We stop the driver after a few gallons. We again get on the phone with Sclafani, they again tell us OK, just let us know when you require a fill. Around January 15th, Sclafani sends a truck out again and this time, since we were not home filled the tanks, additional $800 added to the original bill of about $1800. I immediately get on the phone and advise Sclafani again. Well, they seemed perplexed and passed on my complaint to the supposed owner Maureen Sclafani. She calls me back about 2-3 days later. In my attempts to explain to this individual, of our 5 previous conversations with her staff she called me a liar. Then she attempted to berate me with vulgar and unprofessional language. Bulls**t seemed to be one of her favorite words. People what Sclafani does is the classic bait and switch. They hook you into a "budget" plan and then continuously fill your tank, so by the end of the contract (which for us would have been August) there would be a large amount to paid at that time, minus the $185 per month we paid. Let me also state for the record, she then said WE breached the agreement because we did not accept delivery. There is NO WHERE in this agreement that says we cannot deny automatic deliveries. Hey if you wish to waste your resources without checking with the home owner first then that is on you. For the record, 1. We paid our $185 per month on time every time. 2. There was nothing in the agreement that said we could not deny delivery. 3. We researched many other oil companies and we specifically asked these questions, and that is one reason we chose Sclafani based on their responses. 4. When she terminated the agreement claiming we breached the agreement, she attempted to charge us a late fee charge. And for the record when she sent the corrected bill, with the late charge removed, within 3 days we sent payment in full of $1,878.47. I have never, ever dealt with an owner of any establishment, that was as unprofessional, disrespectful, nasty and utilized vulgar language in the course of a business discussion. And I am a retired US Marine, so I have heard it all. Take your business elsewhere. We will go back to paying cash at other establishments. read more

Conversation in one day at store led to meeting 3 other people out of 4 in store that had various problems with Sclafani. After a misunderstanding on my part, I am told by the reps at Sclafani "you don't pay your bill, we don't want your business". As I tried to explain to the office manager, Vivian, the only mail I get from the them is the contract renewal once a year: no written statements. But she insists that a monthly statement is mailed which is probably sucked into my mailbox vortex. So I want to know how am I supposed to pay my balance? After making me feel like I'm lying, I've decided to not pursue this cause you are made feel wrong (well, and stupid) soooooo I will take my business elsewhere. Last week on a Sunday, I called Scalfani to service my boiler, as we didn't have any heat or hot water. My husband was out of town and I have 3 young children at home. Scalfani came around 7pm and left at 8:30. Before I tell my story, I want tell you that the boiler was never fixed that evening, only the hot water came back on, and I didn't realize it until the next morning. The service man who was in my home earlier called my home phone at 2:30 in the morning telling me that he forgot his tools in my house, and asked if I would I go into my basement to get them and leave them outside. I was scared and hung up on him. The call woke my children who thought something was wrong with another member of our family. I was too scared to go downstairs, fearing that he was trying to lure me into my basement. Remember, he knew my husband wasn't home. I called Scalfani, and asked the answering service if the man who just called my house was on a service call, she SNAPPED at me, and told me in a harsh tone that she couldn't give out that information. Meanwhile, I'm starting to panic, and cry. I asked to have the owners call me right away to assure me and my children that he was in fact on a call, and was in need of his tools. Too many minutes passed before I heard back, so I called the state police. BTW, the owners never called me back, just the answering service. The police arrived at 3am, and did a sweep of my house to make sure the repairman wasn't there. When you have young children...you can't take any chances. The next morning, Maureen laughed and told me that I must have not gotten much sleep last night. Explained that the repair man was on a call, and he would never harm anyone. She said Larry the owner would be over to correct the problem that was never fixed the night before. They had already charged me for the job, so I had to let them back in my house again. Larry came, and I asked him if he knew what had happened to me which he acknowledged. I told him that even though there was no intentional harm done, I was frightened, and scared for my children. His reply was that since they are a 24hrs service company, sometimes they just have no idea what time of day it is. He didn't have the decency to say Sorry, or apologize on behalf of his employee. They never said we won't charge you for the job since we put you and your children through angst, or that sorry since you lost 1/2 nights sleep. You truly have to question owners of a company who are never accountable for anything. All their responses to dissatisfied customers below prove that. What happened last week truly terrified me, and has now made me install a security system, and take other measures to protect myself and children. Scalfani should be ashamed as a company, to not even show the slightest concern or remorse for what happened. read more
