I called Melingers, they never disclosed they were Schwanger bris. The truck showed up as Scwangers. They told me the cleaning of my furnace was $225. They charged me 300 on my credit card. When I called they said it was because they always replace a nozzle and a filter. So if I had known they were going to charge me an extra $75. I would have said no. They would not refund it. I will never use them again. Mellingers was an honest small business. Too bad they got bought by price gougers. read more

'd give ZERO stars if I could... We've been a customer of Schwanger Brothers for the past 9 years and on their automatic propane delivery service. We have had them install additional gas lines in our home for appliances over the years and for the most part they have been a "satisfactory" supplier. However, their customer service has been slipping drastically the past few years and we were long overdue replacing them as a supplier. I wish we had replaced them sooner. Read on for the details. We have been on automatic delivery and the past two years now have had to call to get them to deliver when our tanks were low in January which is one of the automatic delivery months. The need for our calls to them were due to them missing their expected delivery periods, and each time when we called they have not been able to tell us when we are scheduled to deliver. Ever. Two years in a row, with January deliveries pending and tanks near empty they cannot tell us when they are going to deliver. These were our first red flags. .If you have such red flags as well kick them to the curb now before they cost you money This past January 2025 was the last straw. We were overdue for a delivery and had to call because we were low and would be away on vacation for a couple of weeks. They couldn't tell us when we would get a delivery (mind you, it was already past when we should have had a delivery, especially since Dec and Jan were record cold months for our area this past year). They had a technician stop by and rather than run out they suggested they put a portable tank onto our tanks to get us through until delivery. That was a Saturday. So, I called that Monday morning to ask when we should expect a delivery only to be rudely told they cannot tell us and that they were busy. Strangely, they delivered that same afternoon. Their systems, for lack of a better word, suck. They cannot tell you when you are scheduled, or if they can then they don't seem to be bothered enough to share that information. Well, to make matters worse, their delivery on that Monday (Jan 20th, 2025) was all gone two weeks later... a leak at the tanks no doubt, not inside the house, but all the propane was gone in just short of two weeks. We were away from home, on vacation, and have a smart thermostat, thankfully, and saw that our home heating was not working. Schwanger Bros took no, zero, not one bit of responsibility for our lost propane. They gladly tested our system, (supposedly) found no leaks, and filled us up and billed us for over $400, again. Of course, we were not home so we can only "trust" what they said about there being no leak (I don't trust them), but there were trusted HVAC techs at our home while we were gone and they could smell the leaked propane all around the outside of our home. We were home for 3 short days after the Monday delivery, but then away on vacation for 10 days. Oh the joy of travel! We returned home and since, for more than a week, the tanks and our appliances are holding propane, sipping propane, no leaks. Their last fill up the nearly 200 gallons lasted only two weeks...when it should and always does last more than two months. Their representative insulted us by saying "Well, it has been cold outside!" C'mon! Schwangers took no responsibility. They want their money. Today they lost a customer. This same information is going to PA Attorney General as a Consumer Complaint in hopes that others won't be scammed by this company. There are better local companies than Schwanger Bros. If you want a company that will not claim any responsibility when they fill your tanks and leave something leaking, then go ahead, use them, they are great for that... and only that! UPDATE - They also charged us $300 in labor to fix the leak they caused. So that's a total of $1100 for $400 of actual, usable, non-leaking propane. Our tanks and systems have since been certified. They are A-okay, now that Schwangers fixed the leak they caused two weeks ago... of course they deny they fixed anything, yet charged us for $300 labor!!!! read more

Our AC died Saturday July 4th..yikes and it was between 92-94 degrees. I sent an email and also called first thing Monday morning. As always they are the most friendliest staff ever. They gave us a turn around time by Tuesday, realizing that they had 5 calls for AC problems and we just had a holiday. To our joy, a service person arrived and with COVID-19 he was wearing appropriate gear of a mask and for cleanliness he wore shoe covers. He asked what the problem was and started to work on a solution. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. Thank you sir and Thank you Schwanger Brothers. Good fuel oil, good service, good prices. They are very friendly and easy to deal with and offer you several options for delivery including a scheduled service or call in. They also have services available and send out mailers from time to time reminding you of them. Summer oil deliveries are only twice per week, so you have to make sure you arent going to run out or are out of oil. Otherwise youll have to wait until the next delivery day. They can take credit cards or set you up with a billing cycle. read more

Schwanger Brothers is the best heating and air conditioning service around. After trying several local companies to service our AC and heat, we were blessed to find Schwanger Bros. They were professional and did not stop until they found the issue and addressed it. After multiple companies were unable to find the issue, Schwanger Bros. not only found the issue, they fixed it, and we are now customers for life. We have the AC/Heating annual service and will continue with them as our peace of mind. Although we do not use propane or oil, we would definitely choose them for all of our heating and cooling needs. Their customer service is phenomenal and works to make any customer satisfied. read more

I recently had a phone conversation with one of the employee's there whom shall remain nameless. However, if the person to whom I am referring reads this, there is no doubt that that person will recognize their self and recall the conversation! I called because I had run out of propane which has never happened before and was very surprised because I have just filled my 500 gallon tank in December, so figured that there may be a leak somewhere, probably at my outside gas grill. However, I wanted to make sure that was the problem and wanted a company to do a pressure test, relight pilots, etc. The company I typically buy propane from does not service anything except a pressure test from the tank to the first regulator. I explained that to the person I was talking to and to my surprise the person responded to me " so you buy propane from them but you want US to service it?" This was said with a sarcastic tone in their voice as well. To say the least, I was shocked with the attitude and asked them if they ever shopped for the best prices for anything! The person did not seem to think they said anything wrong and I promptly ended the call after explaining I would take my business elsewhere! The person did nothing to apologize for their attitude and hung up. Ironically, the price I was quoted from this person was only 5 cents more than the company I usually buy from, so I probably would have had Schwanger's fill the tank at the same time they provided the service.......... I happen to be in the real estate business and often refer business to various trades when a home needs repaired or a new owner is unfamiliar with the Lancaster County area and needs service or maintenance ideas for contractors I would recommend. My team settled 81 homes last year and I would estimate 50% of those homes had oil or propane heat. This year already is busier than last year, so this particular phone call had a potential of producing 40 to 50 referrals to this company. These days, this kind of customer service just astounds me. I am also going to compose a letter to David Schwanger just in case he doesn't read Yelp reviews. As the president of this company, I would hope he would value this feedback. read more

Beware!! There is a much better company located in Ephrata, pa. They charge much less and provide much better service. Schwanger bros. Is the worst company I've ever worked with. Never on time and charged me twice for someone doing a leak check/lighting the pilot because their tech didn't know how to. I would not recommend them to anyone. Don't let them fool you. BEWARE, if you are having them do repair work for you, you MUST request a "not to exceed." I learned this after being informed that my bill would be about $200-$300, and then receiving a call after the fact that it was nearly $700. They told me that in the future I need to request a "not to exceed," then they would call me if it was going to exceed this amount. This is something that would have been nice to know in advance. I would look somewhere else for a service company with more fair business practices. read more

After going through 3 other plumbers to just get some info, I was pleasantly surprised when Schwanger Bros. 1.) emailed me back almost immediately with my initial question answered 2.) schedule the service appointment for the next day 3.) finished the job in 30 minutes, even though they estimated 2 hours and finally 4.) just charged me for the time that they were there. have not had a bad experience yet and when i ran into troubles schwanger bros came to the rescue time and time again until the problem was fixed. defiantly worth the time and money and they will have my buisness in the future for all my plumbing and hvac needs. i highly recommend checking them out!!! also they were nice enough to replace some duct work for my central air unit free of charge just for paying my bills on time and im full. cant say i know any companies or people doing that read more

Looking for a good affordable plumber. This guy does very good work. But at a price. What was explained as a two hundred and fifty dollar job was done, in two and a half hours, for six hundred. Over five hundred for labor. Looks like I'm in the wrong line of business at that hourly rate. read more
