I have been a customer of JK Mechanical for over 20 years. In my opinion, they started out great,…read morebut lost their way. This review is about the service I received about fixing my 15 year old mini-split unit. History: The outdoor unit is located on a flat roof. I recently had the roof redone and the roofer told me they had to lift the untit six inches to get the new roof material under it. He warned me that this could cause a leak. A very slow leak, but over the course of a year, the unit worked less and less until it finally would not provide hear or cooling. I agreed to have have a technician come out to evaluate my unit and estimate the repair cost. The charge was $150 The technician arrived and inspected the equipmen. He told me bad news. 1. The system was FLAT, meaning that all the refrigerant leaked out. 2. The system uses outdated R22 which is no longer manufactred and remaining stock is very expensive at $300 a pound 4. My system requires 5 pounds so the cost of the refrigerant alone would be cost prohibitive at $1500. 5. The technician called the office to see if they would give a repair cost. They said No. The system is unrepairable. I was ready to install a new minil-split. I got 3 estimates, all around $5000. JKs estimate was $2500 higher. I decided to call another company and they sent a technician out. This is the interesting part! A. He inspected the outdoor unit and said it was obvious where the leak was because of staining at a flair nut. B. He said the system was NOT FLAT and still had some pressure so that evacuation would not be necessary. C, He said that there are drop-in replacements for R22 at reasonable cost. D. My system requires 2 lbs, not 5lbs. He tighted the nut and charged that system and charged me $400 In conclusion, My "unreparable" system was fixed and is working properly for $400. I called JK Mechanical to inform them that I was unhappy and wished to speak to someone in authority. They gave me the human resources person. I explained that their web site talks of unparalled knowlege and expertise, and that my experience was not that. I explained that the JK tech said the system required the outdated R22, but did not tell me about drop-in replacement options. He said that system was flat, and it was not. He said that it required 5 lbs, when it actually requires 2lb. He said that the system was not repairable. It is repaired and is working fine for the last two months. I told her that I was not renewing my service agreement for my home's main HVAC system and that after 20+ years, I was leaving JK Mechanical because my confidence in them was lost. She said that she understood how I felt and would pass along my comments. After paying a service agreement for over 20 years, I thought that recieving a follow-up call would be nice and the mark of a customer focused company. I was wrong. No communication. My confidence in JK is lost. How can I be sure that if my main system breaks, that I'm given the correct advise. The other company earned my business.

I sent pictures and never heard back. After a few follow up phone calls and promises that a quote would be coming...it's over a week later and still no quote. I hired S A Way Plumbing and Heating and did the job same day and took a little over 2 hours. I got a quote from Brubaker Plumbing and they said it would take two days...at least $1,000. S A Way Plumbing and Heating charged $95 hour. You do the math!

Buyer Beware. I had a couple plumbing issues pop up, nothing too major. I went online to find a…read moreplumber, figured I'd look small & local. I asked for a quote from Snyder's, they came back with $650-$750, which to me was a bit high, but I figured $750 was worst case scenario. Longer story shorter, I got invoiced for $983. "If it's going to cost more, we'll let you know beforehand". That never happened. I contacted another contractor who said there's no way that job should have cost as much as I was invoiced. Now they did have to come back a second time because my out-of-the-box pump failed and needed to be replaced. Ok, I get that, 2nd trip needed, but an original 2-3 hour job, I got billed 4.5 hrs. Ok, I can let that go because of the 2nd trip. But where I took issue was the materials charge. I looked at the parts list and decided to check prices thru Home Depot & Lowes. It added up to right around $150. I got charged $465 for materials. Now if my price is $150 from a big box store, what do you think Snyder's is getting charged as an in-industry business who bought from a supply house? So their markup is over 300%? That's BS. Plus I was charged for 2 10' pcs of pipe where they only needed 1'. Think they threw the other 9' away? So I called them on these prices, got a response (eventually), and here we are. I paid their bill, but it doesn't mean I'm not going to speak caution for the next unsuspecting person looking for plumbing services. While their face-to-face interactions were fine, it's the business practices and after-the-fact pricing that has me writing this negative review. Save me the do-it-yourself diatribe, there was no way that was a $983 job. There's reasonableness, and then there's price gouging. You decided to go for the money, so you got your money, but I'll be sure to let people know to look elsewhere. Reputations and word-of-mouth still mean something in a small town.

It's too bad you cannot post a review with negative stars, because that's exactly what I would have…read moregiven this company of my experience doing business with the family that owns it. Not once in my entire life have I ever written a negative review of a company such as I am now constrained to post here. I am doing this in the fervent hope that anyone who is contemplating making an improvement to their home will learn from this review and avoid the pure hell I and my nextdoor neighbor have had to endure. I'll cut right to the chase: Groff Solar is part of the Groff Home Improvement group. It all started in June 2025 when I contracted with them to install a solar power system on my home. My nextdoor neighbor signed a contract as well the same week. We were promised that our systems would be installed by August. This was important because on December 31st the tax credit for solar would be going away forever. My estimated tax saving would be approximately $7,000. It was crucial for our systems to be installed by that date. Groff said "no problem." Unfortunately "problems" were all we were given. The first problem was PP&L's refusal to approve Groff's proposed system for our houses. We were told to expect a series of emails from PP&L throughout the process, but we never received anything. Telephone calls were made, but never returned. Texts and emails were ignored. When August turned into September I went to the Groff office in Willow Street and demanded some answers. It was then that I was told of the situation with PP&L. Three months had passed, nothing had been done and the Groff company had not called us to apprise us of the problem. We were now three months closer to the tax deadline. Long story short: my system was finally installed the day before Thanksgiving. It was another month before the borough and PP&L gave their approval. I was able to turn my system on Christmas Eve morning. My neighbor missed the tax deadline by ten days. His estimated tax credit was $6,000. Groff issued no apology, and still ignored texts, and emails. This company has no integrity and on several occasions told outright lies when questioned. There are so many reputable companies offer solar in our area, but Groff Solar is definitely not among them, and definitely should not be trusted.

We built our home in 2023 and used Groff's to install new heating and air conditioning. We had two…read moreseparate units installed; one for the first floor and one for the second floor. Both heating units have failed both winters since we moved in and one of the air conditioning units have failed both summers since we moved in. I initially called Groff's but they denied any wrongdoing, blamed the issue on electrical and charged full price for fixing the issue. Most recently, we had to have our entire second floor system fully replaced because of an acidic burnout of the compressor. I reluctantly called Groff's to see if they would take a look at it. They charged me full price to have their technician come out to confirm what I already told them; that the compressor was blown. I asked if they would give me a price for replacing the compressor and they never responded except for calling me to ask me when I could pay $160/hour for their technician's visit. This is the first negative review I have ever posted, but I would avoid Groff's at all costs. Their brand-new systems have cost me thousands in repairs, and we build this home less than 3 years ago. Terrible experience from start to finish.
