Awesome spot to get lunch and enjoy a drink on their upstairs patio. The food isn't going to knock your socks off but it's the atmosphere. They have a super cute, friendly staff of guys and gals. It's the perfect place to get fish and chips, they come with incredibly good beer battered french fries, and upgrading to the halibut didn't disappoint. The seafood cioppino for dinner was good. They allow dogs on the outside lower patio. read more

Schooners! Man not gonna lie, kinda pissed I grew up less than 45 minutes away from this place and did not know about it. Grew up thinking "Lolo's" was the bomb, whatever I'm over it. What I can tell you is that from now on, if I am in the 805, I will be stopping in for a steak sandwich and a cocktail to consume all while staring at the Pacific Ocean thank you very much. My homeboy lives near Schooners and all I kept hearing him talk about was Schooner this and Schooner that! So I says, Oh yeah let's see what all the rage is about and lets go! Friendly staff, great food, perfect location is what you will get when you come here. Prices are a little steep but then again so is gas so fogettaboutit. Never. Stop. Eating. read more

Very disappointing place. Service was horrible. Food was decent. Asked if my burger would be able to be cooked medium. Waitress responded that their patties weren't thick enough to cook to temperature. Never a good sign. Wife got the chowder in the bread bowl. It was decent. read more

I went here for a business casual dinner. I had the fish and chips, while everyone else at the table got the steak salad. My fish and chips has DELICIOUS batter around good quality fish. It was even served with a Thai peanut sauce, which was good. I got my fish with sweet potato fries, which were good, but nothing special. Our waiter, Isaac I believe, was really friendly. Water was always refilled promptly. My group sat outside on the 2nd floor patio beneath some heaters and it was still a bit cold but overall a nice ambiance. The restaurant has a lot of good options for fish lovers, but not very many other great options for those who don't like fish. There are only a handful of other things in the menu that aren't average sounding (I.e. Pasta) read more

If the food was really good we might make excuses. We come here every year and we're continuously disappointed. I'll come back for the view. Food as I said it's mediocre but the most disturbing part is the bartender. I think he's probably disappointed that he didn't choose another career because he seems completely uninterested in doing this job. Today we went and we watched as he was completely rude to some women who just came in to have fun. For us, knowing ahead of time and personalities we didn't have great expectations.. As usual, he never looked us in the eye, he never smiled, he never engaged And that's OK. We don't need him to be our entertainment but it would be great if you could go in and pretend to welcome. Anyway I hope he finds a career that he can enjoy and engage in. We probably won't be back just because he makes it so uncomfortable! His focus was only engaging to a fe locals. Hope they can sustain this restaurant! Too bad! read more

I stopped off in Cayucos for lunch on my way home from Laguna Seca MotoGP. Checked my Yelp app for a good burger place, and here I am at "Schooners." Walked up and overheard a waitress tell a group that there was about a 15min wait. Then I spied the upstairs bar, went up there and sat right down with some locals.. Cool bar. I asked the Bartender how the burgers were, He replied, in an Australian accent, "yeah good mate". Then he pointed out the most popular Burger, I think it was some Californian type burger with avocado, etc... Then I saw the "Crow's Nest Burger" and said; in my best Ausi accent, I'd have that Crow's Nest mate... his eyes lit up in surprise and satisfaction... "Good Choice" he said.. I also sampled the "Famous" calamari and enjoyed a nice Sierra Nevada beer, or two.. The Calamari was perfect! The burger was orgasmic! Well done Schooners.. read more

I was super happy with the quality of food and service here. No wait (weekday evening), table was clean and service was on point. I could tell our server was busy but he was still on top of everything. We loved the fries, ok, my son loved the fries, he honestly wouldn't share much with us, because they were amazing. We also enjoyed the Cioppino and Ahi salad. I wished I would have gotten the chance to try the Maple Blurbon Glazed Salmon. Next time! read more

Stopped in for some chowder. Was pretty good.

This little restaurant is located right on the beach and we were told was the only restaurant in Cayucos with a full liquor license. There aren't many restaurants in town so we chose this place for lunch because it's what the locals at the Bed and Breakfast recommended. I liked that they had quite a bit of beer on tap and we got lucky to grab a table with somewhat of a view. I wish their deck was a little bigger since they do have a great spot. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer which was pretty good. It was probably my favorite part of the meal. I liked that the calamari was cut into strips as opposed to the typical ringlets and they give you tartar sauce instead of marinara which gave it a fish and chips feel. For the entree my boyfriend had the halibut tacos which he really liked. They use a chipotle mayo sauce on them which is a nice touch. I had the flank steak salad. The steak was prepared nicely but I wasn't a big fan of the rest of the salad. It was heavily dressed and only had a few crumbles of blue cheese. All in all it didn't seem that great for how pricey everything was. We both had two beers, appetizer and entree each and paid about $70 including tip, for lunch!! read more

The food/view was amazing! The service was not as great. It took 20 minutes to get water. The girl at the front had no clue what she was doing. Our waitress ran into me four or five times (I'm seven and a half months pregnant) and was clueless about the beer selection when my husband inquired... I think this restaurant would do A LOT better if the staff had a clue about customer service and a better idea of what was on the menu. Again, the food was the saving grace...very good! read more

Sorry but we can't give Schooner's more than one star. First off, there is zero atmosphere here. Plates were chipped. Service was ok but our waiter kept forgetting to pull his face mask up. We had a BLTs with onion rings. The BLT was ok but the onion rings were tasteless and extremely greasy. Definitely not worth the $. I think you can probably find a lot of really good places in Cayucos. This isn't one of them. read more

Overall I liked the restaurant. Our waiter was great... very nice and laid back. I had the steak with the Bacon and Bleu Cheese sauce... it was super yum! My friend had the burger and a bowl of clam chowder. I'm not a fan of seafood AT ALL so I can't comment on the clam chowder, but my friend said she really liked the clam chowder. I would go back again next time I visit Cayucos. I would try sitting upstairs because i heard its a great view. It was raining when we were there though, so we sat inside on the bottom level of the restaurant. Loved the wood burning stove keeping us warm though! read more

SO GOOD! decided to have a day out with babe and drove to cayucos from slo. Read some reviews on this place and decided to try it out. There was a 30 minute wait for inside or an hour wait for the ocean view patio so we settled for inside seating because we were starving. We got beers, a cup of clam chowder that was enough to share for two people, calamari strips, steak fajita sub (a little dry so maybe get extra sauce, and shrimp tacos. All were really really good! We left very full and happy with a slight buzz and lots of leftovers. Definitely recommend this place, worth the price and a nice outing for a day adventure! read more

We love Schooners!!!! Perfect beachfront view and "shanty pirate" vibe, with comfy beachside food fare. Friendly servers and low key, local beach ambience. And great mai tai! read more

A great place for cocktails and appetizers, or a casual fish-and-chip lunch if that's your thing. Sit outside, though - the view and the sound of the crashing waves really smooth some rough edges with the food and service. But don't bother trying to eat dinner here if you're veggie or vegan - there's literally nothing vegan on the menu, and vegetarians (like me) have to settle for an iffy nachos appetizer. It would be great if they'd throw a spaghetti marinara, a veggie risotto, and a grilled cheese on the menu - how hard could that be when they already have the seafood or meat versions? Hell, I'd settle for a Boca burger and fries. But if you're looking for oysters, fried seafood, a casual atmosphere, and a fantastic view, you'll be happy at Schooner's. read more

Had the clam chowder to start which was rich and not to thick. The shrimp and chips are excellent. The fries are beer battered and are not to soaked in beer. Just enough to have the flavor and crispness needed. The jumbo shrimp are the best I have had since on the central coast. This is a restaurant that I would recommend and the staff have been the friendliest and kindness staff between here, Morro boy, and Santa Barbara. So glad me and my family stopped here for lunch. read more

Found this gem on our adventure today! My husband had the oysters and said they were delicious, I don't care for them so took him at his word! Drinks were great, lives the salad I got but the clams were so sandy we couldn't t finish them, but the flavor of the broth was great

I love this place! It represents everything that is right with small, coastal beach towns in Central CA. It overlooks the beach and the eating area and small indoor bar are located on the 2nd story so there is a view from every seat. They have a glass partition up to block the wind and have the outdoor heaters cranked up to keep you toasty. The wait staff is clearly local and come with that easy going beachy attitude. There is a nice mix of tourist looking for great food and locals coming in after work to grab a drink and say hi to the bartender. Dinner here is not cheap by any means, but the quality of food, specifically the seafood, makes it so worth it. I had the best cioppino of my life! And our waiter brought me a nice glass of complementary wine and warm little bread biscuits to soak up the cioppino. All of the seafood was fresh and so delicious; I can't even find the words to describe it. My suggestion - get there! Stat!! I would go to grab a beer, smell the sea and watch the surfers. Or I would go to grab a great meal with a bunch of friendly people. Either way, you can't go wrong at this joint! read more

This is just for the clam chowder. Just got back from the 4th of July. The consistency hits the right balance. It is not watery (a cardinal sin!) Neither is it too goopy. Each bite held a fresh clam. Just right. I felt like Goldilocks. Tip: Add pepper, cracker and tabasco! read more

Been going to Cayucos for years and I've always wondered what was all the hype about behind the pirates--now we know! Upstairs bar and restaurant with open view of water and pier. We had a great time. There aren't many tables but they do have enough staff so every table was checked on often, but not in an annoying way. Ceviche with the catch of the day was full of flavor. All the food that was coming out looked delicious too, unfortunately, we were full after a couple of their great Bloody Mary's and the ceviche. Love that this place is right on the beach. The service in the bar was spot on but for lunch well let's just say it was so so and oh so slow to get the bill. The burger was not so good over cooked for sure but the chicken salad was tasty. Good bloody Mary's I have been here a few times in the past years and had way better food and service. The first night that we went to Schooners was amazing. The waitress that we had was easily the best I have interacted with in many years. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. Unfortunately we went back two nights later, and after waiting to be seated we sat, and sat, and sat. After about 45 minutes we flaged down a passing server and asked who was assigned to us to be told that they would check. After another 30 minutes of no one acknowledging our existence we got up and left :-( Now I am torn, I guess the wonderful experience and the awful experience average out to so so overall. If you are lucky to get the first experience you will truly enjoy going there. read more

I have to say the entrees were amazing. We had the oyster appetizers and the larger Oysters were okay but the smaller Ones were absolutely uneatable, so fishy and awful (and we love oysters!)! Owning a restaurant ourselves we don't mention anything unless we feel it absolutely necessary, which in this case we felt they were so bad there could have been safety issues, but we were ndisappointed when we were charged for them. I can emphasize with people complaining and not wanting to lose money but we were really disappointed with our experience. Entrees were 5 stars, appetizers way below zero so I just can't leave a good review. Too bad, waiter should have taken better care of us- not about the money!!!! read more

I always eat way too much when I come to Schooners. Both times I have eaten here we have stared off with the Calamari Strips, which are panko breaded and fried strips of calamari steak, and the clam Steamers. I am not a fan of clams, however this presents as an ideal situation for my dinning companion, although I do enjoy the delicious broth and the warm fresh sourdough rolls that accompany this dish. The burgers here are huge and delicious. Hearst Ranch Beef! The seafood Pasta is a winner, with plenty of fresh perfectly cooked shell fish. I particularly enjoyed the Breaded and Seared Ahi with wasabi Mashed Potatoes! So good and not something you see too often. Great Service. Indoor and Outdoor Seating. friendly Hosts who will call you when your name is at the top of the wait list. Schooner's, We will certainly be back again for more seafood fest gluttony hour! read more
