Schilling has a cool vibe and I think it's a great place to grab a drink or two and people watch. They have a DJ, decent drink specials, vino and food. I wouldn't recommend the late night food because it seems over priced. My friend ordered nachos and they were pretty basic. I ordered the patatas bravas and it wasn't worth the 6 euros. The environment is cool and the DJ was playing classic Americana. Needless to say that drew in a bachelor party and shortly thereafter a bachelorette party. Plenty entertainment to go around watching to two parties collide and BANG...impromtu congo line through the bar. It was great! We left after about an hour or so but we had a good time. Wants to go on my previous visits to the city, and finally got the chance. It is a cafe/bar at the center of Barcelona, good for a break while shopping or after sightseeing or for cocktails before dinner. We went there after a day of wondering around the city . The spanish omelette with tomato bread was ok (the Spanish omelette had a weird earthy flavor). The guacamole with salmon and dried Tomato was really good (served with olive tapenade). Schilling had great hot chocolate which I quite enjoyed. It this thick and rich but certainly on the dark chocolate side in case for those who prefer more milky ones. The coffee was unfortunately a little watery/ not strong; which I don't prefer. It's not bad but just quite mediocre. I will have a beer there next time instead. Very lovely setting, a place I think you can have a casual meal with a special someone. Nice place while still keeping things casual! Some of you who follows my review would know. I generally weight my star ratings higher by the coffee quality. So in this case, the coffee score pulled the overall down. But otherwise, happily a 4 star. read more

As the boyfriend said, "they took care of us in every way possible." Drink list and menu are plentiful and good prices all around. We stopped in for a drink and stayed for the fun (mostly 80s) music and food. Their beer and wine list was varied with a decent offering. I was able to get a Hoegaarden, which is one of my favorite Belgian beers. My boyfriend had a wonderfully eclectic red blend wine. I had a Caesar salad (I have mostly had bread and ham while in Spain - vegetables haven't been aplenty) and the patatas bravas. Both were very good, but especially the patatas, with their aoli. My boyfriend went with comfort food: a hamburger. Everything was delish. The venue was more than half empty, but it was a Monday night, so I'm not sure if that's the norm. Schilling is a charming little bar café situated in the heart of Gothic Quarter, off one of the little streets connected to the famous Las Ramblas. The music selection here is perfect -- when I study, I usually drown out the playlist of choice with my own set of headphones but the indies and funky acoustic pop music styles here were perfect for keeping me alert and setting the mood. The place only gets 4 stars instead of 5 though because of the janky wifi that kept disconnecting me. I ended up having to go without it and study offline. I can't comment much on the food quality, but the menu looks to be that of an authentic Spanish shop. I had the cappuccino which was warm, frothy, and excellent for providing me my much needed caffeine. It wasn't too busy in the day time, making it ideal for studying or for a quiet little lunch but I can imagine that it gets pretty rowdy at night, according to the other reviews on the nightlife here. read more

Good stop and right by our hotel! We got a couple of tapas to share. We got the bread with tomato paste which was pretty tasty and we also got the cheese plate. It had 4 different kinds of cheese. Situated on a central street in Bari Gotic, this restaurant has great ambiance, starting with dim lighting and the wine bottles lining all the walls. Staff is friendly and service is fast, even on a Saturday night. We only had drinks here, but the experience was pleasant. I enjoyed the house Rioja in a short and wide glass. In the fiercly beating heart of old Barcelona, the Barri Gotic, we got ourselves a good nights drink after a fabulous night out. The place is made up as chique wine bar mixed together with an up-beat cellar feeling. It's quite stylish. Thus the crowd drawn there was also a mixture of men in suits and fancy girls in glitter tops, tourists and people on a date. It would have been fun to see the place again during the day. The red wine I got was not exactly to my taste and - even for a red wine- a bit too warm. The cocktails my friends got seemed pretty decent. This is a clean place in a very touristy area. The food is ok but a bit expensive. I had the fries, which were very mediocre. It is dark and relatively quiet (some relatively unobtrusive music in the background, but some other reviews remark that it might be louder at other times). If you want a place with free wifi where you can sit and watch people walk by the windows or relax for awhile, this is ok for a few beers. I was worried that this place would be touristy with plain food and just a place to fill the void in my stomach. It turned out to be a pleasant experience. The food was Americanfied, but it was a nice respite from some of the other places. The atmosphere was different than you get at chain restaurants back home. This one of my favourite hangouts in Barcelona. Getting a seat at one of the large windows provides entertainment all night. You can watch the people go by for hours. The music is always great, although sometimes a bit loud. A great place for a 'caña' before your night starts. The clientele is a mixture of Spaniards and tourists, I would say. Amazing coffee - sangria was pre made and utterly unimpressive. The barista station however wonderful! They fresh ground the coffee beans for every cup. Tables are laid out around a central bar area, where you can buy food and drinks, i had a great mojito made with brown sugar - the way i like it! Music is up beat and good. Whilst its a big space with high ceilings it can get smokey. All sorts were there, having fun and people watching. read more

We stayed across the street in the loft apartment above Schilling. THis place was the best breakfast food in Barcelona. Granted, we did not get around to every place but it was simple, eggs were fresh and cappuccino great. This place is sort of an odd one, for it is a great breakfast place in the morning, great lunch during the day. At night it has dinner but then turns into a night club. Lol! Situated on c/Ferran which is a main road that runs between La Rambla and Laietana. Schilling is a bit of an institution in Barcelona it's an airy spot that's open from 10am and offers breakfasts, lunches and dinners although I'm not sure what the fuss is about. It's most popular at night when it fills up with Spaniards and locals quaffing wine and coffee, beer and cocktails and enjoying tapas whilst they chat ever-loudly over the top of quite intrusive and oft-unpalatable dance-type muzak. Charming cafe just off the Ramblas with the best cortado in Barcelona so far. On a slow day, if you are very polite, you can get breakfast in the afternoon even though the kitchen is closed. Terrific spot! read more
