I was in search for the best tapas in all of Barcelona. I came in after reading the reviews and boy it sure did not disappoint. Every single thing my friend and I ordered was so delicious. You pay by the amount of tapas you enjoy. The plain sticks are one euro and the ones with a little ball was 1.5 euro. We also ordered margaritas since it was a Mexican themed restaurant. One of the best I've drank even compared to when I was in Mexico. The food was so amazing we ended up coming back the next day for lunch. The only down side is that they don't offer any WiFi, but honestly who cares cause the food is so freaking amazing. I seriously can't wait to come back to Barcelona just to eat back here!!! Walked in planning on trying 2 pinxtos and ended up eating 5. They have about a dozen different types of pinxtos, both sweet and savory. Like the others have said, it's an amazing deal with all the pinxtos priced at just €1 and €1.5. Drinks are cheap as well- a glass of tinto de verano was around €2. The place was pretty busy and quite small, but we managed to find a table pretty quickly since people are always coming in and out. Everyone was super friendly and they even let me behind the counter to pick my own pinxtos! My favorite was the shrimp pinxto atop some sort of creamy salad. I was a bit disappointed by the walnut dessert one, which was basically a huge glob of cream cheese with some nuts sprinkled on top. read more

Cozy place with and good food! I went a little late at around 10, but there were still some people in there. The pinchos options seemed a bit limited (but probably because we were late), and the vegetables didn't seem that fresh-- my lettuce was wilted. However, the types of pinchos that they offered are much better than the other places. They offer seafood and meat, while the others have random fried food on bread such as spring rolls and dumplings, which don't seem as appealing to me. Made it to Blai Tonight again for the first time since 2013. It was so good the last time we were here that my husband remembered it from before. We were only in Barcelona one night but we had to come here again. They now have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is self serve - you ask for a plate and then grab your tapas one by one and take them to your table. You can go back for additional rounds using the same plate. If you're seated outdoor then you must ask for them to serve your tapas at the bar then take them to your table. I think this has something to do with how they charge you. No one keeps a tally of how many tapas you've had, instead they count your toothpicks at the end and that is what determines how much you pay. Tapas are either 1.00 or 1.50 Euro each and this is a guess here but plain toothpicks are the 1 € and the more fancy toothpicks are 1.5 €. So about the tapas. They have a HUGE selection - two levels that wrap around the corner of the bar and encroach on the seating area. I don't know how but some are giant and are still only 1.5€. I got one that had 3 chicken wings on a toothpick standing neatly on a slice of bread for 1.5 €. Which brings me to another thing - they have the traditional flavors like fish with olives or ham but they also venture into other flavors like what seemed to be a ceviche tapa with half an avocado filled with tomato and onions topped with a generous slice of fish. They also had a couple of dessert tapas. They will heat any of the tapas. Just put them on a plate and ask for them to be heated. It might be a little tricky as I only speak a little Spanish - no Catalan - and I had trouble explaining what I wanted to do. I feel conflicted with this establishment. From the pictures and reviews in Yelp, I went with different expectations than the reality. Blai Tonight is a bar with some really great Pintxo and Tapa options. The Sangria was the among best we've had in Barcelona (4 stars for that). It does not have many options for Vegetarian, however, and it would not be a place to consider for dinner. Its more of a happy hour stop. read more

Guys This is the real deal. A small tapis joint located on a pedestrian alley a couple of blocks,off Paralaell. pobleSec area. They have individual tapis pieces on sliced French bread for 1 euro each. They count the toothpicks to charge. Selections include salmon on avocado with a dollop of caviar, mossierello and tomato, calimari, sausage, etc. all for one euro. Selections were both hot and cold with the hot pieces going into the microwave. Beer was only 1,40. Highest quality and lowest price I have found anywhere. read more

5 stars for the tapas, -1 because it was freezing and the room is wide open with windows and the door. But back to the food. These tapas were so tasty and obviously the right price at €1/piece. The place is filled with locals having a good time even though we went on a Wednesday, and the two guys running the place (father and son, perhaps?) were very helpful and friendly. My favorite was the avocado/caviar/pico de gallo tapas, though everything is awesome. My friend really enjoyed her vino de la casa, too. I hope to be back one day! read more

Affordable and filling pintxos! We were nicely full after spending a little over 20 euros for 2 people here. Tip: you can ask for your items to be warmed up. This street has tons of pintxos restaurants. This one gives you a cup to collect your toothpicks and you pay at the end, with 2 pricing levels based on the type of toothpick. Nice mix of seafood, sausage, ham, potato/egg, veggie, and dessert/cheese options. Great place for a quick bite. read more

Yum!! Absolutely amazing tapas! And only €1! The place was pretty crowded, but worth it. You can get beer, wine or sangria for €1.90 as well. Everything tasted so good. You get a plate when you arrive. You serve yourself tapas from the bar. They will heat them up if you ask. At the end you pay based on the amount of toothpicks you have. (Each tapas has a toothpick holding it together) I was recommended to this place by a flight attendant who comes here every time he's in Barcelona. I almost don't want to tell you about Taberna Blai, because there were no tourists in there, and that's part of what made it so magical, like X-topher said. The snacks were fresh and delicious and the honor system was a nice change.... So, you go, you get a plate and then you just pick the snacks you want as they are constantly putting out new ones - and at the end, they count up your toothpicks and that's what you're charged. My favorite snack was avocado with fresh tomatoes and roe on toast. Yum. But, all of the ones we tried so were good! My advice: practice your Spanish and strike up a convo with the locals, don't look like a damn tourist, get an estrella con limon to drink, and try one of everything... maybe twice. And last but not least, don't tell anyone about this place on TripAdvisor, PLEASE. Ok? read more

Amazing tapas for cheap. It's an honour system where each tapas is 1 euro (the ones with red on it are their special tapas for 1.50 euros) and you have to keep your toothpicks (1 per tapas). When you pay they just count your toothpicks and drinks, then charge accordingly. They take credit and the food itself is amazing. I went here two nights in a row and was not disappointed. The great thing is that they have so much variety that you could eat here 4 nights in a row and still be trying out new things every time. Went around 9 and 10pm both nights and the place was busy each night, but not packed - you could still get a spot. This place is a must to get an authentic tapas experience. read more

A great introduction to pintxos. Go up, grab your plate, order some frosty mugs of beer and just start eating. Keep your toothpicks and pay up front where they count the toothpicks, add up your drink order, and give you an amount to pay. Owing to the popularity of the place as a 'pintxos primer' all the staff speak English well. And of course there's the price. Every pintxo here is 1 euro apiece. (So 1 toothpick = 1 euro so you can keep track of that in your head while you eat.) My only complaint is that the pintxos weren't mind blowingly awesome. They were a great intro, but fortified by this experience we tried other places, and had more interesting and more carefully prepared pintxos that cost a little more, but were quite a lot better. So, this is definitely a pintxo dive bar for me, and there's a time and place for it and I would go even if i were a local. But it'd be mostly for when I want something cheap and OK tasting. It would also be much more fun with a large group of friends, where you have something else to do besides eat and drink, as was the case with me. :) read more

Cool concept, but I found that pinxtos are not my thang. You basically walk in and tell them how many people. They will give you a plate and a cup for the toothpick. You just grab anything and everything you want to eat and at the end the calculate the total by the leftover toothpicks. This would be a great snack or maybe if you are into beer. I'm not so I don't think I get the effect. They had a good variety, but my favorites were the blue berry cheese cake bite and the chicken wing bites. They also have some out door seating which is nice and the workers speak English. read more

So good, so good, that I nearly do not want to write this review and keep that place in secret for myself and my friends. You need max 10 euro to be full and merry (that is all including drinks and food). Atmosphere is super friendly and guys at the bar give the recommendations to new tapas lovers not to make a mistake in the choice among all of these wonderful small foods. New tapas are coming literally every 10-15 minutes in the evening, so there is always something for everyone. This was the only place during our trip where we had to put our name on the waiting list for a table on the terrace. things to note: - there a 2 Blai Tonight shops next to each other - it was very packed and stuffy inside both places. - they charge 1.20 euros per pintxo for sitting outside. - I didn't understand why but we were told that we could only order from one of the stores. this sucked because they were certain items in 1 shop that never made it to the other shop. otherwise, service was quite attentive and it was a good experience. read more

But most importantly the tapas here were very delicious! I specially love the ones with salmon and avocado or baked mushrooms. They do tapas right. Huge selection of tapas all laid out on the bar, self serve style. Each item has a tooth pick denoting the price. Each one is either 1 or 1.80 euro. Save your tooth picks and pay at the end. Great wine and sangria too. The most amazing part was the services. The bartender was friendly, willing to describe all the ingredients and was hustling the whole time. Quick and friendly service in Spain is like finding a unicorn, it just doesn't happen. There are so many tourist traps where you can get overpriced tapas--and this is NOT one of them. This is my favorite tapas bar in Barcelona. It's nothing fancy--a local dive, with cheap, Spanish beer and a wide assortment of 1€ tapas. There are about 15-20 tapas to choose from: a variety of croquettes, and different meats and types of fish mixed with different vegetables, Spanish cheeses with marmalade, potato or spinach tortilla (not to be confused with a Mexican corn tortilla--this is like an eggy fritatta). There's a great honor system, where you eat as many as you want, and count how many toothpicks you've got and pay at the end. The staff is friendly, and was very patient with my Spanish. read more

We went here based on Jodie's review and weren't disappointed. It was a little intimidating at first as the place was jammed when we got there around 10 PM, but my wife and I just plowed and went for it. Here's what you need to do: 1) be confident and work your way up to the front if it is crowded. 2) ask for a plate (they'll give you a little plastic cup for your toothpicks too) and order your drinks/beer. 3) just grab the tapas you want (or ask them to get one if it is far away) and save your toothpicks in the cup (you can ask to have your tapas heated in the microwave if you want) 4) When you're done, give your cup to one of the guys behind the bar and tell him how many drinks you had. It's all based on an honor system which I really like and everything is only 1 Euro per toothpick. My wife and I stuffed ourselves and had two big beers each and we spent less than 20 Euro total. Food is constantly coming out so I recommend grabbing one or two things at a time and seeing what else comes out. If a plate comes out and you see everyone going for it, get in there and get one. The best stuff goes very quickly. The food that is on bottom level is usually older so I would suggest only getting food on the top of the counter if you want the best/freshest food. We went to a lot of restaurants and bars, but this one will be the most memorable for us. If you're in the area, this is definitely worth a visit. read more

Carrer de Blai is a pedestrian only area just off the main drag that felt like a neighborhood area but comfortable for tourists. Fantastic bar with great pintxos (small dishes usually served on a piece of bread with a toothpick holding it together) at low prices. The place is always lively and crowded, so expect to be standing while enjoying your canyas and pintxos. This was the original bar that gave rise to the range of pintxo bars that now lines Carrer Blai, and it's still the most popular one. Note that Blai Tonight works on an honours system: you keep the toothpicks from your pintxos, and at the end of your stay you pay 1 euro per toothpick that you've collected. Yes, you could cheat, but nobody does that, and with the prices being very reasonable you shouldn't either. read more

This was a great place for dinner. The ambiance was just what we were looking for, low key with excellent music playing in the background. The wide selection of tapas was laid out in front of the bar (vegetarian and dessert options included). They had a toothpick counting system whereby each person had a cup where they deposited the toothpicks that held their tapas together, and which marked the total of the bill (each toothpick = 1 euro). The choices were filling and my friend (she's a pescatarian) and I ate until we were stuffed for under 20 euros total. The draught beers were super cheap at only 1, 80 euro each. The staff was super friendly and knowledgable about the contents of each of the tapas options. These are the most well done pintxos I had in Barcelona (granted I didn't go anywhere truly upscale). The price is right at 1 euro each. The drinks are nice and cheap - we had white bubbly sangria the one night. I would highly recommend this place to anyone staying in Barcelona for a casual dining option. read more
