We started off with a white and red wine (€2 each). For the food, we ordered the Loin, Foie Gras, York (€5.25), Sausage of the Country (€2.95), and Burger with Bacon and Papinillos (€4.85). We may have overdid it with 3 sandwiches for 2 people, so I'd suggest to one per person with some tapas on the side. The sandwich is simple with lots of bread, so it's quite filling. I liked how much york was in the loin, which made the bread not as dry. The burger was also a solid choice with the pickles giving some acidity to break from the fattiness of the meat. We walked over to Can Paixano after drinks at Dr. Stravinsky. We weren't terribly hungry, but definitely needed some food to soak up the drinks we had that night. I had the meat sandwich with foie gras, which was hot, cheap, and delicious. X had the regular meat sandwich, which I thought was missing the foie gras! Pros: -Cavas (it's like a Spanish champagne) is very inexpensive -Sandwiches and Sausages are simple but flavorful. -Lively atmosphere -Didn't smell like smoke inside -Overall I enjoyed the experience! Cons: -There is no sign for the restaurant so I walked right by it, but there's a long line of people so you know that's the restaurant. Here's a tip on finding the place - map it and head to the point on either Google or Apple maps. No signage whatsoever. Look for a line of people waiting in what looks to be an alley while in actuality, it's Carrer de la Reina Cristina. Entry is first come, first served. Like I mentioned before though, no seating. You stand at the bar or a designated table. If you're at the table, head to the counter to order. Get the Cava - best prices ever. Or any of the Tapas on the menu - delicious AF. As for food and drinks - see my pics. Know that the pics don't do the actual food and drinks any justice. You'll have to visit and see what I mean for yourself. The venue is lively and loud. If you want intimate, this isn't the right spot for you. Ever since our visit here in 2018, I still think about this place! So glad to revisit this establishment during our short trip in Barcelona! Not much has changed since our last visit, they don't speak a lick of English and they're probably so sick of tourists coming in, so they come off a little annoyed. Of all the reasons to love Barcelona, Can Paixano is one of the best. I knew this because as soon as I approached it, I could hear the low rumble of voices followed by the smell of good food. Can Paixano is the definition of an oldschool restaurant. Barely a sign to get in, you would never find it on accident, it's cheap and crowded but damn is it deeeelicious. They know minimal English but they will point and show you items to get an idea of what you like. I had the bacon burger it was so fresh, taste like nothing I ever had in the states before. Ate it all with a knee in my back (its tight in there.) The signature is the Cava. You can get a bottle or a glass. This stuff is extraordinarily, compliments everything. Asked him in sign language (No Espanyol here) pointing to his Tshirt "Where is this?" and the man pointed to right behind him! He walked me inside. I was given space at a counter and asked very gruffly by a man after saying "Ingles?" to his spanish... "What do you want?" I simply pointed to tapas in front of me in the glass case and someone's Cava. Pretty Pink in tiny glass. I proceeded to sample the tapas and cava...and DELICIOUS! If I were there, I would buy the wine. Lots of people were doing so. They also have sandwiches etc. and I am sure they are great. But the tapas is what you eat in Spain. We came back here. In our 5 day, hectic, once-in-a-lifetime stay in the BCN, we came here twice, kiddos. That's how dope the experience is. This should be enough of an endorsement but keep reading if you really want to see the breakdown: 1. There is a bar and everybody stands. You can put drinks and food on the counter while you snack, just be considerate of the people next to you. 2. Please, get the jamon. It's so delicious and fresh. Also, it's like 3 euros, which is definitely a great price and you'll love snacking on it while you move on to #3. 3. The cava is pretty damn cheap per glass. 1.50 to 3 euros per. Or, grab a bottle and just go ham on it. :D 4. They make hot meats and you can choose whether you want it on its own or on a bocadillo. I would opt for the chorizo and the botifarra, but pretty much all of them are amazing. Even the hamburguesa is spectacular. The sauces are delectable as well. 5. Total cost - you could definitely have a great feast and spend less than 10 euros per person. read more

As someone who looks like a tourist, I got the same treatment as the locals all around me. Maybe it was because I could speak Spanish well, but honestly, there is no bias here: everyone got treated equally. None of the servers understand English well, at least based on what I observe and the reviews, so I got to utilize the Spanish I learned and got what I wanted. They were transparent about prices when I asked them (in Spanish), and there was absolutely zero awkward interactions. So, they understand Spanish even though the menu is all in Catalan. Don't worry if you don't know Spanish, as you can always look at what the locals are eating and tell the server the quantity and point at the food. The chorizo is just amazing; I wish I ordered more but my stomach was bursting (in a pleasant way) after the chorizo and croquettes. The hamburgers were also surprisingly good (hey, no judgment, even the locals love them!) Definitely get the cavas, as they are insanely cheap. If I remembered correctly, it was around 2 euros, a little less or more. Other food items are insanely cheap too, as we were so full and yet the bill came out to be less than 20 euros for 3 people! Overall, I am glad I found this place even though it was so hard to find without any references. I would definitely come back when I get the chance to come back to Barcelona. read more

Wow. What can I say about this amazing spot. It's a real authentic place for anyone to visit. They do sandwiches with different kinds of meat, cheese, and onions. But they also have sauseges/hot dogs, chicken, peppers, and tapas when you ask for a drink of Cava. They fill it to the brim! And only for $3! Cava is a bubbly, like a champagne but they drink it with anything and everything. I ordered the lomo with cheese and onions and it was so simple yet so tasty I fell in love. I also had about 4 glasses of cava and I was feeling great! I was with my friend as well and she ordered two plates of chicken with peppers along with 4 glasses of cava too. Out total was less than $30. Can you believe that? Back in Los Angeles it would have cost us about $100 for two people. Barcelona has amazing places to eat and this is one of them. There is absolutely no seating room so you have to live like a local and stand whole eating and drinking at this spot. They make their own cava about 50 miles away and bottle it as well. If you wanted a whole bottle it would cost you $12. Unbelievable how cheap and tasty Spain is. The waiters or professional and very sweet. Can Paixiano is the place you dream about when you return to the states (or wherever home is). It's the place that you wish was available just down the block from you, so that you could frequent all the time with your buddies. Walk in, it's brimming with locals, buzzing with energy and everyone is just wanting some cava, sausage, and sammies. I came here with my husband (new word I'm getting used to!) in the earlier days of the trip, and we spent the latter days trying to figure out how we could go again or at least grab some sandwiches for our flight home. Alas, it was not meant to be, but Can Paixiano has really got a grip on us and definitely one of the favorites! The are no tables, standing room only, with small ledges by the bar or some high shelving you can place your drinks/food behind. They are cash only. The menu is completely in spanish - so I would recommend you try to prep ahead of time if you do not know the language at all or have some translations/photos of what you want (just makes the process easier for all parties). Order at the bar, find a space, enjoy the food when you grab it from the staff. I saw individuals pay once they ordered, but we were able to pay when we finished as well. Although it's crowded, space does clear up quickly. We were fortunate that the staff member that took our order knew a bit of english, but I think that is not always the case from what I've heard! He was really helpful in translating some items and we were very thankful! We got the cava of course per recommendation. It went well with the sampler "plats de variatas" It comes with regular sausage, blood sausage and chorizo. It was so good!! Under the "especialidades de la casa" (house special sandwiches), we got two sandwiches: Serrano, queso, cebolla y pimentos (Serrano, cheese, onions, peppers) and the Lomo Foie-gras y York (Foie Gras and Pork). The Lomo Foie-Gras y York, was so fantastically out of this world - it was full of this pate, large piece of pork and just so tasty and delicious and really was the main reason we wanted to go back (along with the vibe and all the other delicious food we were seeing!). It was just such a great experience here I would definitely revisit to try all their other sandwiches and enjoy me some cava, and sausages! read more

Neither my friend nor I speak Catalan, but luckily we met a man at the counter who had studied abroad in Barcelona (he too was visiting from overseas and just had to go back to Can Paixano) who was eager and willing to help us out with ordering! It was an amazing experience. The fact that it is full of locals all the time, and that they aren't even trying to cater to tourists is just a sign that it's good stuff. It's such a hidden hole-in-the-wall that I walked past it the first time and couldn't find the entrance because there's no outdoor sign. It's ridiculously cheap (most options are under €3!!!!) and bustling with more locals than tourists. There are no seats, so you stand around the counter to order food. Be aware this is a cash-only place!! There is no English menu! I'm not familiar with Catalan, so I had to rely on both my server and a nice Spanish-speaking couple on recommendations to eat. Potato Croquettes: €1.5. I saw a cook take a batch out of the fryer and knew I had to try them. For one order, you get six croquettes. They are creamy and filled with potato goodness. Serrano, Queso, Cebolla, y Pimientos: €3.30. A house special sandwich with Spanish vocabulary I was familiar with (Serrano ham, cheese, onions, and peppers). Everything complemented each other: oozing cheese, grilled peppers, and salty ham with toasted and pillowy bread Xistorra Sandwich: A sandwich with two links of xistorra chorizo. The sausages have a bit of a spicy kick to them, but that just made me enjoy it much more. This sandwich sounds boring but it's super yummy and I saw at least three other people eating it too. When we got there we had to wait 15 mins in line for a spot in the restaurant which we thought was a good sign. We got a spot standing at the bar and we were given a number. We got a bottle of wine and started to sip on that while we decided what to eat. The menu was in Catalonian so it was kind of hard to read, we got help from some other patrons near us to help. I got the hamburger with bacon and cheese, it was ready in about 5 mins and then our server handed it to us over the bar. The meat was very good and tender, you could tell they use very high quality beef. Next I got a meat platter with various pork ok it and that was so good. However, I really think you definitely need to pay attention find this place and grub out...here's why: They have a bomb meat platter with different types of meat such as the chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage which is bomb) and botifarra. Oh and they have this awesome sparkling red wine (cava rosé) that's super cheap €1,50 a glass (damn super cheap) that goes well with the food. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Barcelona that is NOT a tourist trap. It is a little difficult to find because it's in the middle of allie way but not impossible. A few things to remember when coming to this place is to bring cash since they do no take credit cards and you most likely will not be able to find a seat. The decoration is very contemporary (beautiful) and the service is super amazing and FAST! Highly recommend ordering the house "Cava" for your drinks just get a bottle (is that good). With regards to the food everything we order was over the top, has the morcilla (blood sausage) sandwich which was AMAZING!!!!!! It was very juicy, crisp and you can really taste the spices.
