Tapas. Not very good.
Shellie H.

Sadly nothing memorable about this restaurant for lunch today. Sangria was filled with something carbonated which we didn't enjoy. Pizza was greasy and the tapas were pretty bland. Wish we opted for somewhere else. Sadly 40 euros on a mediocre lunch.

Seafood paella, THE BEST!

Generally tried to avoid any tourist restaurants near off of La Rambla, but ended up giving Ultramarinos a try out of convenience to our hotel and seeing that it had good reviews. The restaurant was playing loud upbeat music when we showed up on a Tuesday night, which was fun. The DJ was pretty good! The space itself is quite large and well decorated in a non-stuffy or cheesy way, with everyone writing their names on the walls so we left an evidence of us being there as well! Thought that was fun. They had 6 tapas for 7 euros deal on a sign outside the restaurant, which made us walk in and see whats up. Got seated right away, but there was only one server managing 8 tables on her own and she wasn't very strong at communicating which was a bit hard for us while ordering. What we had: -Wild mushroom and foie Croquettes -Spinach Croquette (The best) -Sizzling artisan chorizos -Alfredo pasta -Patatas bravas -Seafood paella (The best) Overall food was pretty good, small portion size and ok customer service but still, can't complain for being in the most touristy area off La Rambla in Barcelona

We casually stumbled upon Ultramarinos while walking La Rambla after checking into our hotel. The hostess kindly approached us and asked if we wanted to check out their menu. Their tapas was what caught our attention at first, which was why we decided to give them a shot. The place is cool and gives off an eclectic vibe. Our server was extremely nice and gave us some great recommendations on what to try. Although I can't remember each dish we ordered I would suggest ordering their paella if you want a filling meal or want to find an entree easily shareable amongst your party.

La Ibicenca pizza - has tuna, prawns, cheese, tarragon, tomato sauce, and caramelized red onion

Generally tried to avoid any tourist restaurants near La Rambla, but ended up giving Ultramarinos a try out of convenience to our hotel and seeing that it had good reviews. The restaurant was playing loud upbeat music when we showed up on a Tuesday night, which was fun. The DJ was pretty good! The space itself is quite large and well decorated in a non-stuffy or cheesy way. Overall we received great service from our waitress as well. For a drink to start with I got the rebujito, which was essentially just a mojito and tasted great. Pretty good deal for only 4,5 euros. As for an entree, I went with La Ibicenca. This is their pizza that comes topped with tuna, prawns, cheese, caramelized red onion, and tomato sauce. Seemed a bit different from the typical toppings I see in the US, so I went for it and truly enjoyed it. The pizza was a great size too! The crust was on the thinner side, so it's easy to eat more of it than it seems.

A great place for late late dinner, tapas and sangria staff are all very attentive and helpful I kinda like that they're not pushy when it comes to suggestive selling they give a pretty decent time to choose what you want and they explain things very well this spot is Definitely a tourist friendly place

Sangria

We sat inside to cool off. Waiter was attentive. Sangria was very good. The copa bread has a unique taste (red sauce), but it helped fill my empty stomach. We ordered two tapas from the fresh sheet. The octopus salad was so delicious! The king prawns were really tasty.

Wonderful place and atmosphere. The Dj is pretty good as well. Jeez, we finished our small plates of guacamole and chips. (Hint asked for extra chips and spinach croquettes). Now on to the ultimate seafood paella.

The best paella on La Rambla

Right in the heart of La Rambla, this place has the best paella we had our entire time in Barcelona. Definitely go inside the restaurant, don't eat outside on La Rambla, as it has such a cool vibe! We ate in the back part, not the front, of the restaurant. There is a different feel between the two locations so you can decide which fits your mood

Fried aubergines. Tasty!
Thomas C.

Very nice tapas, surprising good quality and good service. Something "real" and no tourist trap. I especially liked the fried aubergines. Also a nice ambiance. If you are hungry and have made it to the end of the ramblas, then it is ago of place to go.

Tasteless food. Nachos were stale, bread was hard. Burgers were severed cold. Would never go back. Not worth eating there.

We got great seats at the bar. Our bartender (David, I think) was very friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled. The menu is a light-up book that has fun illustrations and useful descriptions in it, including flavors, alcohol level, and a drawing of the cocktail itself. I really like when menus show this much info. Our first round was the Subterranium and Atlantide. They were both delicious and interesting flavors. They also came with tiny bites and in interesting glassware. Our second round, the Ramses and Great Gatsby, were similarly interesting, but we liked them a bit less. David gave us some gratis truffle amaro (also delicious) on the way out. I highly recommend a stop, especially if you can sit at the bar.

I came around 5pm on a Saturday, and it only took 20 minutes to get in. The bartenders were super friendly and spoke english which was a bonus. Their menu is constantly changing, so I forget the names of the drinks we ordered, but I also ordered a regular old fashion and they nailed it. I noticed another guest being a little rude to one of the bartenders. She was complaining about her drink so they made a new one, and another one after that. Had it been me, I probably would've gave up and asked them to leave lol, but they did not. Instead the opposite, which is very telling of the type of service you'll receive at this place. Overall this was my favorite cocktail bar in Spain, would I go again? Absolutely!

Really enjoyed this bar and we can see why it's been named in the top 50 bars…read more The bartender was really engaging with the people which we enjoyed. The drinks were 8/10 The ambiance was generic but we had a good time. Definitely recommend trying it.

Wow did we want to give this place 5 stars…read more The bartenders were great and welcoming and the decor was very cool. It is a pleasant place to be physically. All of the cocktails we tried were excellent (we had two more not featured on photos here). We went Sunday 4/19 around open (5pm ish until 7:30 ish). However, our experience was sort of ruined when a female employee came over and chided my wife and two other American patrons we were talking to for being too loud. They weren't being particularly loud and at this point we were the only four people sitting at the bar itself. She was not a bartender (at that time at least) and she completely ruined our vibe with this complaint. She had been eyeing one of the other American patrons we had been talking to before she came over and confronted my wife after she laughed. The bar tenders didn't seem to be aware this happened and when we were closing out they remarked they didn't think we had been loud and that they like their guests to have fun. This female employee apparently didn't get the memo! We sense that perhaps she just dislikes Americans, which would be rich for working at an establishment like this! She also had no issues when a dog other guests brought in barked loudly multiple times, each time silencing the entire bar because the barks were so booming. The other American couple felt the same way -- the stern talking to just ruined the experience for all four of us. So... great spot but our experience was unnecessarily tarnished by a jerk employee!!!
