2 Stars - Scheels is great overall, but not for hockey Scheels is a great store for a lot of sporting goods, but if you're looking for hockey equipment, I would honestly recommend going somewhere else. My son recently started getting into hockey, and we went there hoping to get some help with skates and gear. Unfortunately, it was clear pretty quickly that the hockey department just doesn't have staff with much hockey knowledge. Whether it was skates, sticks, or general equipment questions, there really wasn't anyone who seemed confident or experienced enough to help. The most frustrating experience was when we purchased skates and were told they had been sharpened by the Scheels staff. After my son had a very negative experience on the ice, we took the skates to a rink, and the staff there confirmed the blades had not actually been sharpened. That kind of thing makes a big difference, especially when someone is just starting the sport. If you're serious about hockey equipment, save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that specializes in it. Prices are very competitive elsewhere, and the staff actually care and know what they're doing. Pure Hockey on 72nd is absolutely worth the trip. Scheels does a lot of things well, but hockey just doesn't seem to be one of them. read more

I recently stopped in to check out the kids shoes assortment. There were a ton of clerks helping fetch sizes and varieties. We ended up walking out with 2 new pairs and both were really good deals! The staff was super friendly and we were in and out quickly. However, there is a large selection and all types for all ages, it's a just a little tight in there. read more

I visit this Scheels location often, and I'm always impressed by the consistently excellent customer service and cleanliness. The team does a great job greeting you and making you feel welcome. Whether I'm in the shoe, golf, or clothing sections, there's always someone available and ready to help. Even as we head into the busy holiday season with more shoppers than usual, the clothing displays remain in great shape, making it easy to find my size. Wow just wow. This place is huge went there to get some shoes. I'm a size 15 wide and I tell you it's hard to find. And they had options and I got some pairs. Two levels toys and accessories upstairs and downstairs clothes soaps snacks. The service was great. Always asking if I need help. I gotta say some of the prices were decent. Went today with my partner to look at a handgun for myself. Talked with who I think was the hunting manager. He was super nice and friendly. He answered all my questions and let me look over any gun I was interested in and didn't rush me. My partner also had questions and he answered his questions along with showing him handguns he was interested in and ear protection. I would very much go back just to purchase a handgun from him since he seemed the most knowledgeable. Also had very good pricing which had the best value. read more

Scheels is a dangerous place for anyone that likes outdoors, or is involved in sports. I mean in a good way of course. For us we spend a lot of time upstairs in the baseball area. Almost everything you could need or want is up there. We've bought gear, bats, gloves, etc. over the years. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. For this trip we were looking for a set of cleats for our oldest and with the help of an employee we found a good pair that fit and would last the season. Prices are comparable with other stores and sometimes you can get lucky with a coupon or sale so the value is pretty good overall. If you're in Omaha this is one of the best places for finding baseball gear. read more

I had 9 Darn Tough socks (gifts) in my cart. When I clicked purchase (after my name, address, and credit card had been entered), 3 of the socks were removed from my order. No longer in my order. No message saying they were out of stock. Just gone in seconds! I have been getting emails each day saying that the 6 socks were on their way. Then today, the email shows only 5 socks. One of the socks was "canceled". After long wait on their chat, Morgan said the sock is now out of stock. What?! Instead of back ordering the socks, they are just canceled. I'm very disappointed in Scheels and their horrible inventory/order system. read more

UNACCEPTABLE. My stepmom and autistic little brother were taken to the basement at Scheels after paying for over $70 of items over a $15 keychain my brother unknowingly placed in the stroller. She had no idea, immediately apologized, and offered to pay, but staff still accused her of shoplifting with zero empathy or understanding. This was a traumatic and discriminatory experience for a family just trying to shop. Scheels handled it with coldness instead of compassion. No one in my family, my extended family, or my husband's family, will return to Scheels. This location has lost a lot of business as many of us were once loyal customers. I love living near a brick & mortar Scheels. I've bought from them online for years. The location has plenty of parking and entrances on both sides of the building. The selection of goods is outstanding. I shop for higher quality pet supplies for my large dog, for camping supplies, and for shooting/reloading supplies. They are a Dillon seller and usually are well stocked. They had a Dillon 750 in stock before most online sellers did, which was great since I was in the market. They typically have, as of this writing, a ton of powder and primer options. Prices are not down to preCOVID prices, but their primer prices are much better than most available online. They even carry Redding dies. I consider Dillon and Reddimg to be premier brands for reloading. For pet supplies, my dog is a master chewer. Nothing at PetCo or other big box pet stores will survive 5 minutes with my 2yo pup. Scheels has toys and safe bones that keep him happy for hours. If you train your dog to hunt (I do not), they have a nice selection of options. They offer a 10% military discount, which is better than the Dillon 5% discount (same price & tax @ Dillon online). They often have reloaders working there to help with questions. I have not been impressed with their ammo prices. Highly recommended. read more

My daughter is obsessed with this place because she's 3 and they have a ferris wheel in the middle. It goes fast and kinda scares me, but she loves it. You need to buy tokens and they cost $1 per person per ride. Half the time the cashier just gives me a free token. Beyond that they have a huge selection of all sorts of things from clothing to hunting to freeze dryers. We always have fun walking around, but things do cost more. Be aware they offer a military/veteran discount you just need to ask at checkout. They have an open ended return policy, but the one time I used it (to return a freeze dryer) it was a hassle since no one seemed to know what to do. They were friendly though! read more

I recently purchased a pair of men's air Jordan shoes and spent over $200. when the pair arrived I checked the condition to make sure I was happy with the purchase. I was displeased with the pair given how much I spent and the scuffs I found on both the left and right shoe. I had it shipped back the same day it arrived to get a better looking pair so I felt satisfied with the amount of money I spent. The next week I opened the second shipment and it was the exact same pair that I received the first time. they literally repackaged what I sent back to them and sent it back to me. I really enjoy coming to this store. There is one down side but I don't know how they get around it and that's the parking. The store is always really busy so finding parking is very difficult. Like I said, I don't think I've been there where it's been slow so if you are still worried about being close to people during COVID, this might not be the place for you. I had to visit Scheels this morning. I counted only 7 cars in the parking lot around 10 a.m. when they opened today. I brought Rex with me since all Scheels invite well behaved dogs into their stores. Employees were glad to see my dog as I took the stairs to the second floor. Social distancing is still a major concern when they opened off certain departments and have an employee monitor how many are in a specific department before others to enter. I had my equipment order taken care of without having to wait outside the ropes area. Customer service was quick and efficient and I had my needs quickly met while Rex patiently waited for me to finish. Upon leaving, if they offered a dog biscuit to Rex, this would have resulted in a 5 star rating. read more

I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but for the past year and a half I have been attempting to get a fitting from one of your ski experts and I am now beginning to think that he does not exist. I was browsing through the 8.5 size snow boots when one of your "expert" associates (maybe from the kayaking division?) confided in me that they were pleased to welcome on a world renowned slopesman as their newest department head. He told me his name was Yohan Gööldhruy and he was not supposed to do this, but he would give me his personal number if I ever wanted a complimentary lesson. I was excited of course, but after over 357 attempts to achieve contact with "Yohan" I'm beginning to think Steven from kayacks was pulling my leg. Watch this place! Have had multiple episodes and heard from several other people that merchandise scans higher than listed. Have had to drive back to the store myself to correct over charges of $50+ dollars. They will tell you it's "an honest mistake" but seems to happen a lot. I think people should be able to pursue fraud charges against Scheels for theft by deception. They are either negligent in setting up their systems or at worst committing organized fraud. Scanner fraud is a big problem, and according the the research companies like Scheels make millions each year as a result of it. They will not notify you of overcharges! you must find it yourself and take steps to correct it. A legal remedy might encourage them to make fewer "honest mistakes." read more

I've been here countless times and the staff has always been very willing to assist. Although, I feel that they're always way overstaffed. I primarily go to the firearm section for parts, ammo, etc. The employees in that department are very knowledgeable and provided valuable information. They strive to make sure customers are safe/happy with their purchases. Love this place! Excellent customer service and a very respectable return policy if you have any problems. Every time we've needed assistance, they've been very helpful, even going above and beyond when they could. For instance, they were unable to set my ski bindings short-notice so they called around to other places (competitors) to help me find a quicker option. Most places don't care nearly that much about making their customers happy. Also, the prices are much closer to (or the same as) online prices, which is pretty incredible for a brick and mortar store that also treats its customers well. My only nitpick is the advice for choosing gear may be hit or miss for some sections, so try to have an idea of what you need before you go. (I was initially sold the wrong size ski boots, but they were happy to swap them for a better size when I went back.) read more

They even have a freaking ferris wheel!!! - lots of stuff for each department, however I was only interested in the camping / backpacking dept. - In the Camping section, they did have a bunch of items that other stores don't carry. For example portable phone chargers for on the go. - Their knife department was a little weak compared to Cabelas or Bass Pro. - I enjoyed walking down the aisles and looking at all the stuff. Love this store. I buy most of my gun paraphernalia here. Has lots of Baker brands, good sales. Most things on average are pretty pricey, but it's in Omaha and the location is perfect for that. Only have 4/5 stars because there's been more than a couple times I've been in here where employees are messing around not paying as much attention to customers as they should be. I actually had an older female I was asking questions about she's I was looking at just turn around and walk away when she got a call on her radio or whatever while I was in the middle of a sentence **It wasn't her department** Is the only reason I could come up with. This local chain is locally owned. What makes them a step above is their customer service. They stand by what they sell. Fixed my son in laws bike, no questions asked. Prices comparable to other big label sporting goods stores so you may pay a tiny bit more here than you would at a discount store but the customer service sets this place far above. The staff is consistently friendly & professional. Like the "good ole days"! Awesome store! I mean they have a Gerri's wheel for the kids right smack in the middle of the store! Really. They carry everything for running, jogging, yoga, ice skating, golf, many water sports, skate boarding, you name the sport. Nice store. Great selection, knowledgeable, friendly staff & good sales. We always find a good deal here but more importantly they have the most fantastically amazing fudge upstairs in their treat area to the right of the escalator! We sampled a few (free samples!!!) Ok, Scheels, you're pretty awesome. I just mentioned you in my review of the La Vista Cabelas, and I'm giving you an additional star. Service, selection, and prices are all pretty good. Here's my biggest complaint: cashiers and other employees who go a little bit too overboard with the whole customer service thing. Best effort at verbatim recitation of a couple recent conversations with cashiers: Cashier 1: Got plans for the weekend? Me: Yeah, possibly. Cashier 1: What? Me: Maybe fishing. Cashier 1: Where? Me: I'm not sure, I'll have to do a little research Cashier 1: Do you ice fish? Me: It's summer. Cashier 2: How are you today? Me: I'm fine, thanks. Cashier 2: How's your week going? Me: No complaints. Cashier 2: Do you have any plans for the weekend? Me: We're thinking about taking a day trip. Cashier 2: Where? Me: Maybe Des Moines. Cashier 2: For what? Me: [to see if that body is still where I left it] To get some NY style pizza and Menchie's. Cashier 2: What's Menchie's? I was at Scheels on Saturday, July 18th. It was crowded especially in the main aisles - no social distancing like the website states. There were kids running and shouting in the store cutting in and out of the people. Less than 1 in 5 people wore masks although it seemed all of the employees wore masks. My question for Scheels is why the half hearted attempt at health and safety? Either Scheels cares about the health of ALL of the employees AND customers or they don't. I have never felt unsafe in a Scheels store until this visit. it was interesting to note that other stores in the same mall were requiring masks and controlling the number of people in the stores. The selection at Scheels is great but it is not a good place to visit in the current environment given the lack of safety practices. read more

I went to Scheel's to get my four grandkids an outfit for Christmas. I asked for help and Sydney stepped up. I told her the sizes and brands they wanted. She took over from there. She walked me to four different display areas and helped me get the right gifts. Sydney actually cared that I was satisfied and completely taken care of. In 10minutes I got what I needed! It's hard not to have a good time at a giant sporting goods store, complete with a Starbucks and indoor ferris wheel. Think of just about anything sporting goods and outdoor gear related. Yep, Scheels has that or something very similar. You could in theory by a new indoor/outdoor couch right along side a pair of kayaks and rock climbing gear. On my most recent visit, I came here to check out their disc golf section. Disc-wise, they have a decent selection of all the major brands -- Innova, Discraft, Latitude 64, Prodigy and MVP. Plus plenty of starter bags, portable baskets and other miscellaneous accessories. The two biggest things I didn't like were how disorganized the discs were. You basically have to weed through everything, hoping to find something you need. The other thing was the fact that prices were higher than what you'll find at other local stores or online. If you're out near Village Point and need a giant sporting goods store, Scheels is the place to go. However, I've found you can usually get a better price elsewhere. read more
