Schatzis is my favorite pub in Poughkeepsie. Great service, friendly, fast. Their pub menu is diverse enough to satisfy whatever mood I'm in. Their burgers are creative and cooked to perfection, and the spatzle... damn that was good. Great beer and cider selection too. They even held my leftovers when I forgot them once, anticipating I would be freaking out and running back (amazing chicken and waffles)! No problem. A+ read more

I enjoyed this place! Went on a date here. Definitely my favorite thing about it was the vibe. Very active crowd, attentive bartender. As a vegetarian in a German-inspired pub, my options were somewhat limited (although there were options, so props for that!) but it was a really nice experience if what you want is a bar with a great beer selection and some snacks. Very friendly wait staff in and nice atmosphere. They also have a very good selection of beer that they rotate on a weekly basis which is just awesome. My only complaint is that they need to step up their German food menu. I am also part polish so I know what good perogies taste like. Theirs are okay but I wouldn't write to Grandma about them. The food was ok. The Schatzi burger was gigantic but I did not find the flavor of pork, beef, and potato pancake blending well together as a burger. The American beer selection is good but there are only four German options with three of those being very common German brews; you'd think there would be more given the name Schatzi's. The wings were a bit different, with a dry rub of chili dust. They were tasty. The sauerbraten meatballs sounded like they'd be good. They looked delectable but were only so-so. Overall, I like that this place is helping Poughkeepsie, and I really like the outdoor seating but I was underwhelmed with the food. It's also screams "hipster" if that's your sort of place. read more

Great pub, German food, super beers on tap with a fabulous selection for flights or pints. The schnitzel was amazing!!! We started with pierogies as an appetizer and they were fantastic too. Hubby tried two of the bratwurst. The spicy cheddar was awesome he wished he had two of those. Great pretzel bun and sauce on it. The biergarten was inviting and family friendly if you have kids. Better in the warm summer months so they can be outside and frolic in the grass while parents enjoy a much needed pint or Two. Great as a date night in our case as well. Good service. In and out in about an hour and 10. We would have happily lingered over a few more pints if we weren't headed somewhere else. Great spot! Yummy food... go enjoy! read more

I liked this place, would be great in the summer with the back patio. I'm a huge burger afficianado, so when I saw on the menu that Buzzfeed ranked it among 21 life changing burgers to try, I was sold. The $16 burger came on a pretzel bun with pork belly, potato pancake, cheddar, and sauce. It LOOKED amazing. But when you pile all of that onto one burger, it's pretty much impossible to get your mouth around, so I took off the potato thing and the pork belly.And then it was just a pretty good burger, but my life was not changed in the slightest. In fact, I wish I had ordered the reuben. That looked good. But anyways, no complaints on anything really, and our server was very friendly and helpful. If you are a large, hungry man with the ability to unhinge your jaw, maybe get the burger. Nice beer selection. read more

If you want the best Korean style tacos you've ever had in your entire existence, come here. Not only are these tacos huge, they give you four of them! I was so mad that I couldn't finish them all in one sitting because they were so good! My boyfriend ordered a burger so sensually; I took his silence as a sign that he was more than enjoying his meal. The service was incredible! I feel terrible that I don't remember my waitress' name, but she gave us great recommendations and made sure we were satisfied throughout our visit. I seriously cannot wait to come back and try more items off the menu! read more

If you're a burger freak like me then you'll definitely have to visit this kool pub in Poughkeepsie. What a meal that thing was! Not only did it taste delicious, but it was cooked Exactly as I'd asked for, which 'rarely' (pun intended) occurs anymore when I go out. The beer was damn fine too. Their chocolate porter was just perfect. So was their Port City IPA, or so I heard from my girlfriend who loved it (I'm not a huge IPA fan). Our server was fabulous. We went with a group of 6 friends (2 couples and 2 'third-legs'), and our waitress asked us if we wanted different checks. That NEVER happens in Madhattan! She was friendly and attentive and so was our tip. You should DEFINITELY check out this happening place next time you head outta the city. read more

Love coming here! When we get a night off it's our go to spot. Awesome drafts and the pretzels are amazing. Rob the bartender is always friendly and never misses a beat. Your glass will never be empty when he's working. The atmosphere is the best part about it. It can become tight and a little small but it opens up the opportunity to chat with everyone at the bar. We have yet to enjoy their outside patio but look forward to it before the summer ends! read more

Keeping it very simple . Been here a few times, same thing everytime . Food is decent ,beer selection is fantastic and service is all around terrible. The forty year old bartender with the mo hawk that has nothing but rude and smart ass things to say . The waitress's are clueless not knowing anything about the beer they try to sell or even knowing if the have it or not . The so called security staff lurk in the dark corners giving nasty looks making you feel uncomfortable . To top everything off they have one bathroom, but hey they post a sign on it to let men know there is a Porta potty outside we can use . Thats exactly what I want to do when 90 percent of your menu is food you eat with your hands is to use a Porta potty . Probably would never go back. i have heard only rave reviews about schatzis and after looking at the menu online i wanted the burger. i was craving a one tonight and the place was on my way home. score one for being in the right place at the right time. there was even a spot out front. - my mission was the burger. holy shit, it is good. the meat, pork belly and potato came together with the cheese and onions to make a wonderlicious dance around my mouth. and the pretzel bun just tops it all off perfectly. my two gripes are, the size; i couldnt wrap my maw around the bigness so i had to squish a bit and that made some precious juice run all over my hand and plate. and the price; $15 is a lot to bite off. not to be left out is the potato salad that comes with by default ... it is also slamtastically tasty. though the burger is really, really good and the wings some folks near me were chowing on smelled amazing, the tally to visit schatzis will prevent me from a return trip anytime soon... even for a couple of beers before catching a train or a show.. $8 is a very prohibitive price per beverage. read more

This is a fine place to stop in for a craft beer and a burger, or perhaps a little German food. In the warmer months the spacious back yard makes for a great place to sit and enjoy a meal. Inside is more of your standard pub atmosphere, with sports on the TV and attractive surroundings. The beer list is well stocked with craft brews. I have enjoyed their house burger, which comes with a slice of pork on top of it - that is a nice touch. On a recent visit, I tried the schnitzel, which was too dry, but the tangy beet salad and German-style potatoes on the side helped make up for it. My friends enjoyed vegan sandwiches, so they do have options for non-carnivores. read more

We really enjoyed Schatzi's. While it's a little bit of a stretch to call it German, it's certainly got a lot of German flavor to it. We had some of the -wurst dishes there and quite enjoyed them. Presentation was nice, the favors were really quite good, but the only downside is that it's a little on the expensive side for what you get. That said, the atmosphere is friendly, service was good and the beer selection was great. Unfortunately the outdoor section was closed so we didn't get to enjoy that on the day we chose to stop in. Another review somewhere checked the "not appropriate for kids" box, but I'll add a caveat to that - we stopped in with our kids for lunch and had a fine time. They really enjoyed the food, too. Would definitely recommend Schatzi's, just note the prices are on the higher side. read more

Went in for my 2nd and last time tonight. Tonight was worse than last time because I literally could not get the attention of the bartenders. They won't look at the customers to see if anyone wants to order a drink. I don't know why, considering the bar wasn't extremely busy.
