Their buffet was better than the Mandarin restaurants, offering Senior specials, weekday specials and way more variety of food with options for Canadian foods, Canadian Chinese food and authentic Chinese food offerings. They even offered Party Trays for catering. During covid: Scarborough Buffet still serves that same great quality food as they did back then and they offer a sizeable takeout menu. They've streamlined the order and pickup process during lockdown for delivery, orders and takeout. The entrance has moved. Follow the directional arrows to place an order or pickup your takeout. This was a special meal because it was my last dine-in in Toronto before indoor dining was banned again. I don't know why the hate for this place - perhaps in the classic buffet days the food was bad, but perhaps the shift to buffet at the table (aka a la carte buffet) improved the food quality greatly. The menu is actually reasonably 'authentic' - there isn't much Americanised Chinese food here. Hot & sour soup was decent. There was quite a lot stuff in it. It was quite spicy. The fried oyster was dry and didn't have much flavour. The BBQ spare rib was ok but was hard to eat with the provided plastic cutlery. Plus, the bone fragmented quite a bit which was unpleasant. The breaded shrimps were decent. Pan fried pork chop was a bit plain though it was fried pretty well. Lobster (for the weekend buffet - limit of 1) was a little small but was really good. Again plastic cutlery made eating this a pain. Salt & spicy shrimp was decent. Shrimp dumpling (har gao) was somewhat mushy - not good. Shrimp salad was just boiled shrimp with cocktail sauce; the shrimp was good quality but the style was a little boring. Steamed scallop with garlic came in its shell and was decent. Shanghai noodles was OK; the portion was a little too big for AYCE. The black pepper beef was decent. The curry fishball was awful - rubbery, with curry sauce that tasted like a mix of chili and something used to clean the kitchen. General Tso's chicken was so-so. It wasn't very crispy & had a bit too much dark soy sauce which threw off the balance with the sweet, sour & spicy flavour. The custard bun tasted pretty good - there was enough custard & it was rich, though it wasn't very liquid (even when hot it wasn't a liquid). The BBQ chicken leg was ok - it was crispy and had a soy sauce flavour. Salt & spicy squid was ok, though the squid was a bit soft. The steamed fish was surprisingly good - it was fresh, good quality fish & was quite fragrant. The green beans were fresh, light & retained their bounce, though they could have done with more smoky wok flavour. Sauteed cabbage with chili was decent. The spicy wings were only slightly spicy & were crispy & tasty. Fish-flavoured eggplant was pretty good (and I don't even like eggplant). It  was fragrant with a hint of spiciness. Honey garlic spare ribs were decent - a bit better than BBQ spare ribs, though a touch tough. The desserts weren't very good. Golden Wantons were just fried dough - crispy with a bit of sweet sauce. They were fresh and good. Mini cake was cheesecake but I could see the ice crystals - it hadn't been properly defrosted. It had been taken from the freezer and was dry. The biscuit wa a palmier and it wasn't flaky and was even a bit moist (i.e. bad). The cookie was so-so. The ice cream was green tea flavoured and was ok - there were some ice crystals but it tasted OK. Sweet taro tapioca was actually sago with taro and was okay. The sesame ball was ok - fresh & crispy but with not much stuffing, plus it was mung bean and only passable. read more

I drive past this place all the time on my way to my chiropractor and hair stylist. Way back in the day, it used to be Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurant, and then a Chinese buffet or two, and now Scarborough Buffet, Chinese. I stopped in for lunch mostly out of curiosity. Nobody has ever recommended this place to me so I came in with very low expectations. It turned out to be better than I expected. The decor was tastefully done, with lots of red, even the ceiling. The chairs were solidly built wood. The buffet stations were positioned to allow a decent flow of traffic. It looks like they have two dining rooms, one open to the buffet and the other with its own doors for private events up to 150 diners. As I usually do at buffet restaurants, I started with soup and salad. I chose the chicken and corn soup and it tasted good but was very thick (with corn starch). The salad bar had enough choices to satisfy me but, curiously, there was no lettuce or any other leafy greens. The mango salad had a nice flavour but the mangoes could have been peeled better. It still had some skin. There were a few dishes that I don't normally see at other Chinese buffet restaurants. They include pig's feet, bitter melon with beef, and pork bone soup with corn on the cob and Chinese radish. These weren't bad but the bitter melon could have been cooked a little more. Some pieces were a bit crunchy. The rest of the food was decent but there were too many choices for me to try everything. I never made it to the grill or sushi station. The sushi looked tiny and they weren't quite keeping up with the demand. The service was very good, with several servers checking on me and clearing plates quite efficiently. The diners were very diverse, with almost every complexion and culture represented. A lot of them appeared to be blue collar workers on their lunch break. They were in and out in a hurry. There was an elderly couple who were reusing their plates instead of taking new ones at the buffet stations, and a couple of young girls causing a traffic jam by eating off their plates while serving themselves from the buffet. Pay attention girls. Keep it moving. Overall, it was a good experience, worthy of repeating. There were some dishes that I wanted to try but was too stuffed. The reason I rated the restaurant 3 star is because the manager applied special conditions on the Birthday promotion. Scarborough Buffet provides free meal on your birthday and 10% off on your birthday month. On Tuesday and Friday there is a discounted lunch price. But because of that birthday free meal is not honoured. 10% birthday month is not honoured. On arrival the Manager did not mention this and chose to inform after the meal. While it's written on their door sign, they should remind customers. Went in for the lunch hour on Friday to celebrate one birthday. The cold salad bar had muscles and shrimps. The fresh fry was chicken, pork and scraps of salmon. As well as grilled pineapple. Have been here with family a couple of times over the years since they offer Birthday month free, and the place has had some major changes including the rebranding and renovations that happened. The food is better than places like Mandarin, but with variety comes a dip in quality as you can get better quality food at traditional Asian restaurants. The sushi is nothing special, slightly chewy. They do offer some specialties which other places might not have, such as peking duck wraps. A bit dry however. We went here for my birthday. It was free !! They have a decent selection here with a good variety of different dishes. To my surprise they offered half a lobster to each person eating at the restaurant. Everyone got a ticket that you redeem at the lobster station. During coranavirus times (since 2020 March), the buffet in this restaruant has unfortunately been closed. But I had occasiionally ordered the takeout box special here for $5.99+13% tax = $6.75. It includes 1 choice of main dish (eg. chicken ball / chicken wing / sweet sour pork/ general tao chicken / spicy szechuan beef ...etc.) on top with 1 choice of staple (eg. fried rice / white rice / shanghai noodles ...etc.), and usually includes 1 small bowl of wonton soup with 3 pieces of wonton inside. Usually takes about 10 minutes to cook. The portion is larger than usual compare to other chinese restaurants nearby, and it tastes great too, overall great value. This place is extremely close to a one star but my experience lacked the negligence required for it. Overall, Scarborough Buffet has absolutely nothing going on for it. I would not come back here again. Nothing here tastes even half-decent and I think the best word to use to describe it is simply "gluttony." Now you may say, Ernest that is a word that can be used to describe all buffets, but I disagree. The description of the word gluttony here is perfectly applicable here simply because Scarborough Buffet has nothing going on for itself. It does not make a single dish or item correctly or with skill and actual taste. Instead every single item there is severely lacking in one way or another, whether it be that the ingredients were not fresh, the ingredients were overcooked, the portions were too small (the sashimi/sushi in particular were literally 1/3 the size of what you would normally get anywhere else), the temperature was off, or it was over-seasoned in one way or another. The reason why gluttony applies, then, is because you are no longer here to eat for pleasure or to enjoy food, but simply to get your money's worth. Once you discover that "oh everything is absolute garbage here" - you have two choices, continue stuffing your face full of said garbage, or refuse to partake in this form of recreational over-indulgence. It is when one chooses the former option (which 99% of the patrons here inevitably do, and I don't blame them at all), that it becomes gluttony as one is simply over-eating for the sake of over-eating, and not over-eating because they're thinking "god damn this is fucking good! Okay gonna upgrade to 4/5 as it's well deserved. We had a family gathering today for lunch and it was solid as all the guest really enjoyed themselves. Even saw some unusual items like French quail eggs brullee which I've never seen anywhere before. Salmon sashimi for lunch was a big surprise as well. The infamous Tuesday lunch buffet specials! They offer the same Tuesday pricing on Fridays now too fyi! It's $12.49 + tax... sooooooo cheap!! For the price, it's acceptable. Definitely am not expecting anything outstanding or of the utmost best quality. But it's def decent. The selection here is smaller than other places like Dragon Pearl and Dragon Legend. There's 2 hot tables, small sushi station, a cold table, soup table, and a dessert table. There's also a small station for made-to-order noodle soups and fried noodles. Came here on a Tuesday for a family dinner. The selection was good. Among the large variety of food choices included dim sum, BBQ, and sushi. Food ran out quickly, but they stations were refilled pretty fast. In the dishes I picked, there was a lot of MSG, because I drank heaps of water. My favourite thing about this buffet is that there's a handwashing station before you enter the buffet area. Although it appeared underutilized while I was there, I am all for hand hygiene. Gotta rate Scarborough Buffet with a grain of salt because AYCE lunch was only $11.99!!! Best part about my visit: bean curd soup with ginger syrup was quite good, servers were not terribly friendly but nonetheless polite and filled our water/cleared our table quickly, chicken wings, select sushi were OK, BBQ pork chop, cutlery was cleaner than I would have expected. Could've been better: exiting the parking lot onto the main road may cause an aneurysm, the large chicken balls had a small shred of chicken in it, select sushi were not OK, and while I admire the table layout maximizes the amount of guests they can serve... little move to room when it's busy. I grew up eating at this place and they've had many reinventions since. Not too fond of their most recent one because of the main open concept room. For the food selection they have most of the essentials for a Chinese buffet but not a wide variety. The dessert bar also doesn't have many options. The buffet was pretty good. It is definitely a place to stuff your face for cheap. We went in as a group of 4 with a free meal since one of our group members had a birthday this weekend. The waiters were very attentive and never had any issue dealing with the full room we were situated in. They filled up our cups and asked if we needed extra napkins and utensils. So on weekends, you can get the a half lobster with the buffet. Not the greatest quality as it appears the lobster was leftover from the previous day or was sitting there a while. My tip is to cash in your lobster ticket only when they get a new batch and actually tell the lady which lobster half you want. Plenty of crablegs at this place--you don't have to wait for it to come like some other places. That said, it is about a 6/10 in terms of freshness. Some other items I like were the salmon sashimi and california rolls, the Burbot fish steaks, the deep fried fish, and the whole shrimp coctail shrimp. Not bad for the money. I've been here a few times over the years and the seating area was recently revamped but a little tightly spaced. Service was excellent--always had people clearing your plates or getting you water. Previously called "Super Buffet". Went under renovations recently and now reopened as "Scarborough Buffet". The interior does look a lot better now, open-concept, very spacious and modern looking. Despite its reno, food selection and taste is pretty much the same. Unlimited lobster and crab on Sundays!! Better grab some lobster 'cause those things go out quick!! Generally the crab is tasty however, today's batch appears to be lacking in flavour and over cooked. Didn't taste much like crab... more like a mush of paste...? Peking Duck was lacking as well. It wasn't as good as the first time I've had it. It also seemed like they stopped making the wraps or was just making them really really slow since I went back to the station several times and the trays were still empty.. As usual, the typical stir fry veges, noodles, fried rice, calamari, fries and curry fish balls were all still there. Surprisingly, they served pork hocks! Kind of disappointed though since the taste wasn't as aromatic as I'd like. They now have dim sum as well, your typical Ha Gow (shrimp) and Siu Mai (pork). The Ha Gow was not bad but the Siu Mao tasted like frozen dimsum you get at the supermarket. Soup station is still there and I think I thoroughly enjoyed their soups more than the "main course" foods. Can't really go wrong with the soups since they are all flavourful. They still have the sushi bar however, sushi is pretty mediocre; both taste and selection. Sashimi (salmon + white tuna) was not fresh at all but edible. Lastly, I think I enjoyed the dessert station the most. Had flang and it was delicious! Not too sweet but sweet enough to hit the spot. I also had a slice of cake which I believe it was cappuccino flavour. (I'm no cake enthusiast so some signs/tags would help...) Ofc, as a green tea lover I've got to have some matcha ice cream. Matcha ice cream was more on the sweeter & creamy side rather than matcha. I also got strawberry ice cream however, this strawberry flavour tasted so artificial that I couldn't even finish it. (Normally, I finish all my ice cream esp. strawberry!) Overall, food selection and taste is mediocre. It'd be better if they have more sushi selection/variation and putting some more effort into the food's flavour/taste. The food was pretty good for a buffet. My issue was with the service. I came with a tour bus and we were sent to the back (not a big deal) to be seated in one of the party rooms. A family from our tour group that had lots of issues on the bus (they even got left at one point for being tardy) decided they were going to get there food instead of seeing what the seating situation was, then by the time we got or food and returned they were sitting in our seats. We told them to move and asked the sever (he was an older male with colored red hair and I think pierced ears) to clean the table because they already made a mess and they took all the utensils. He got annoyed with us and wouldn't even give us new cups. He said they didn't touch them so he didn't need to change them, after back and fourth arguing about this I finally asked if we could at least have 2 more cups because he didn't bring enough from the start and he started arguing with us about that too. We came in to eat lunch and I was told by the manager " MIA" that I cannot take the glass cups and just use the plastic cups since the drinks are free because the Toronto Raptors won the championship. However there were 2 Gentlemen that were visitors that they allowed to use the glass cups so I asked MIA how come they can use the glass cups and everybody else had to use plastic cups and her reason was because these 2 gentlemen were bus tourist. I myself am visiting from the US and am staying with my Parents-In-Law. This management does not practice equality among their customers and favors their own people. The taste is fresh, and not too salty. Came here on a Tuesday (18.49 dinner special). Here are the bullet points. - Spicy dungeness crab was mostly dry and without a lot of meat. (5/10) - Spicy lobster (which I was surprised that they had) varied. The tail was a bit tough (prob overcooked,5/10), but the claws were tender (8/10). - Grilled stuff from the kitchen had no beef (no Korean ribs, prime rib). - No salmon sashimi, only sushi. - No cold snow crab legs. - Fried spicy calamari was pretty good (8/10). - BBQ ribs were tough (3/10) - Fried oysters were full of dough (3/10) - All the cooked food were all half decent (5/10) - The creme brulee did not have the initial crack of the sugar and wasn't very good (4/10) I suspect their menu is a bit lighter on Tuesday when they're running the special price. It's a decent price for dinner if you don't really care about quality but just want quantity. I probably won't be coming back again. Service is decent. One weird moment involved me having my head down eating with my head right near my water glass, and the server comes in with a pitcher to refill my water and basically shoves that pitcher right in my face. New title: What a Difference Time Makes For a family gathering of about 10 of us we went for dinner a while ago where lobster was an extra menu feature. As a seafood lover, I was looking forward to dinner with a double whammy of crab legs and lobster. Disappointed! An understatement. Regular (usual suspects) items were mostly greasy and of poor quality and bland. The crab leg offering was a mean display of scrawny specimens that weren't worth the time and energy to crack and split. My love of crab legs has no bounds, and they were so poor, I don't go for seconds. (I usually go for at least 2 heaping plates and eat little else) A ticket was given out for the lobster, limit of 1 pp. Terrible! What a massacre of lobster tails! They were chewier than bubble gum - inedible. The only thing I ate that was worth having was the run-of-the-mill sushi. I honestly wouldn't go back, even if it was free. read more

Surprised how much I'd actually like this place. Cheaper than most Chinese buffets and the service is excellent; very attentive and quick! Been here a few times now and no complaints. I have been here many time mostly for lunch because the best deal this place has is a take away container for 10 bucks and you fill it with that ever you want form the buffet. The buffet is quite diverse and has all the typical Chinese food favorites like fried rice, noodles, sweet and sour sauce, veggies like bok choy, baby corn, and broccoli. The selection of meats are the same chicken, beef, and some sea food like shrimp and fish. Now the desserts are not the best a little bland but a Chinese buffet is not the place for desserts. Disappointed to say the least. Went with my love and my son for Valentine's. We arrived at 8:30pm and the pickings were slim. They close at 10pm but with an hour and a half left they didnt replenish Anything. The food was cold. The grill was shut down by 9pm. The server kept reaching over my dinner to take my sons plate and putting her charm bracelet in my food. Our drinks were ok. There was a long hair on the table that the server dragged across the whole table to remove. By 9:30pm they were telling us it was last call for everything so my love and I didnt even get coffee or tea or have time for dessert. My son was able to get some ice cream but there was little to no selection for any other desserts. When we arrived there was maybe 20 crab legs in the salad area and they were not added to. My son said his crab leg tasted like dish soap. The sushi was fair although not super fresh and there was a roll with salmon in it, I believe, that was bad enough to be discreetly spit into my napkin as well as a shrimp from the salad area. Very off putting! The pot stickers were also inedible and those are often a favorite for both my son and I. Although we brought much of this to our servers and the managers attention they did not seem very concerned and offered us a very small discount. I think they thought we were just trying to scam a free meal but we were genuinely very disappointed. The bill was brought to us before we were asked if we wanted coffee or tea just after 9:30 and the server continued to hover over us / rushing us even though it was well before 10pm. As we left, my love saw one of the staff drop a cake on the floor, pick it up and put it back on the serving cart to be stored for the next days service. Not bad for the price and a good selection. The new owners definitely renovated the place and it even has a new logo with a cartoon panda. The English name is changed to Scarborough Buffet, but the Chinese name is still fairly similar. The new interior is much more spacious and a better design than the previous owners. The seats and tables are quite clean, with the crab tool already set with some napkins. The service was good. Our server was very attentive with our table as he constantly checked to see if our hot water pot was empty or if we needed extra napkins. For the first time at a Chinese buffet, I didn't have to ask for napkins and the server already gave us two piles as needed! (Gold star for him) The food selection is a lot more than before. There is a variety of soups, such as the typical hot and sour soup, wonton soup, and corn and egg drop soup. However, they also have more tradional Chinese soups such as black chicken soup with longan. The sushi section was not bad and there was also salmon and butterfish sashimi, seaweed salad sushi and tofu sushi. The salmon sashimi wasn't the freshest but it was ok for a typical buffet. Since I went on a Saturday night dinner during the long weekend, they also had a roasted turkey. As well, there was a spicy seafood mix. It reminded me of places like Boil King or Captain Boil where they have crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, and corn cooked in Cajun style sauces. In addition, they had Peking duck with the wrap. You can make your own. The duck was sliced in front of you and they kept cutting more as needed. The wrappers are also steamed and very fresh. They were slightly thicker though, but still very tasty; not too dry and just the right chewiness. The hot food selection was also your typical with a few additions like curry fish balls, lotus root and sugar snaps, and egg tofu. The previous owner made better curry fish balls. I would not recommend trying these curry fish balls as the balls were very powdery in texture and the sauce didn't taste very good. There was also the cold crab and shrimp. The shrimp were quite large. They also had hot cooked Vancouver crab. The meat wasn't very fresh and the meat of the legs were very dry. The dessert section is like your typical buffet with some cakes, pastries and ice cream. Nothing special and I didn't seem too appetized by the looks of it. However the fruit section was good. There was honeydew, grapes, oranges, pineapple (very sweet), and watermelon. In the grill section they have grilled pineapple, but it was very sour. They probably grilled all of the sour/not sweet pineapples and saved the sweeter ones for fresh fruit. Don't expect a classy experience, but rather a casual meet-up with friends or family. The washrooms were also big and was clean. Beat the rush by going at around 6 PM. It got really busy around 7 PM and it felt like a battle for food. Even though the food was replenished at a fast rate, I'd like to take my time and choose my food. I will be back, for the price you're paying, it's not bad for a buffet. read more

Food 2/5 (50% of final grade) Literally nothing special at all. It tastes like low quality buffet food, so there we go! The change in owners made the choices more limited, and less likable. This is definitely not an international buffet, and lean towards more of a Cantonese/pseudo-Japanese one. Ambiance 2/5 (15% of final grade) The place wasn't noticeably dirty, so that's good! The rooms and tables weren't old or anything, but it wasn't a place you would want to stay long for. The ambiance might be appropriate for a cheap, super-casual Christmas dinner, but definitely not for any professional dinners or dates. Service 2.5/5 (15% of final grade) The service was nothing special for a AYCE. The dishes never piled up or anything, but the servers obviously DID NOT want to be there. Cost 2/5 (10% of final grade) On Tuesdays they have a special, and if you are simply out of ideas for any food at all, and want to spend an extra few mindless bucks for low quality food, go ahead. Tried this place for first time last night.Very good food and service. Was not crowded.They had everything I wanted.I have had better but for the price and one of few non Haka style around it Was worth it.They had baked Salmon as well that was delicious.Free lobster tickets when you are greeted.I will go again. read more

Went for someone's birthday, food is alright, I mean you really get what you pay for. Wish they had more variety though. Service is okay, I've been to this place multiple times and every time I go it's a different name. Also the tables kinda close together so you don't have much room. I went here earlier this week and was not impressed. Food selection was lacking and the quality of the dishes were off the mark as well. Everything was quite greasy. The typical deep fried fare was what seemed to be the most abundant. Staff also need to restock bowls and cutlery more often. Also found it strange that all of their plates said "Super Buffet" from the previous ownership and does not reflect their own branding. read more
