We hired Scapes for landscape design with the intention of using them for the full landscaping and outdoor scope of our new build. After receiving the initial design, we requested revisions, but communication was slow and updates often took weeks. When we followed up for updates, we were repeatedly reminded that they were managing larger projects, which left us feeling like our project was not a priority. When we finally received the project proposal, the pricing was not itemized, which made it difficult to identify areas where we could scale back to fit our budget. When we asked for a more detailed breakdown, we were told their process is "turnkey," and no alternatives or solutions were offered to help adjust the project scope. Understanding that this was simply how they operated, we requested another revision in hopes of reducing costs. Our last conversation was in November, when we were told we would receive an updated revision within two weeks. Unfortunately, we never heard from Scapes again. We ultimately chose to work with a different local landscape architect who was more communicative, provided transparent pricing and a much better overall experience. read more

We hired Scapes to do an entire landscape design on an over acre property. The design was amazing, their thoughtfulness in the pivots along the way, and the end product was incredible compared to the value that was created. We have already had 2 neighbors stop by and ask for their information for their next projects and we have only been completed for a week. read more

I cannot in good conscience recommend Scapes Landscaping. Things started out well with Scapes Landscaping, but quickly went downhill. We hired Scapes to design an outdoor kitchen, which they did very well. The design and YouTube video were very impressive; however, the construction team did not keep to the original design and communicated updates poorly. The contract calls for weekly on-site meetings, but meetings were infrequent and always at the last minute. Our project took significantly longer than originally projected. The change in countertop material was blamed for the delay, but the change in countertop material was due to a design error on their part, which they did not discover until trying to order the countertop. Additionally, the crew left their materials strewn throughout our yard for months and killed a lot of grass. We have also spent months cleaning up all of the rocks and chips they left behind. Upon finishing, I noticed that our outdoor trash can is crooked. Scapes originally said they would come to fix it. It has been 3 months and although I have reached out multiple times, no one has come to fix it. The crew also installed an outdoor outlet which deviated from the original plans and it now constantly trips and is not usable. After meeting with multiple companies, I am quite disappointed in the turnout of our project and the high expense we paid for it. I recommend finding another contractor if you are looking to add a backyard kitchen, but if you do use Scapes, please check your final bill as they charged us for almost $1,000 of materials that were never supplied. They did remove the cost once we pointed it out, but it is still frustrating. read more

We commissioned Scapes to build a patio, a wood burning fireplace, and to do extensive landscaping in our back yard. The design was beautiful, but the outcome was overall somewhat disappointing. The patio surface is concrete that has been scored and stained to look like flagstones. Sounds beautiful, right? It is beautiful from a distance, and at first glance when you step onto it, but we have multiple footprints embedded in the concrete where a worker evidently walked across the wet cement. Unbelievable, but true. We also have some unexplained white spots in the finish. Russell had various possible explanations, but no solutions except to acid-wash and re-coat the patio. Sadly, neither problem was solved by their efforts. Bottom line, Russell concluded that there is nothing to do but to live with footprints and white spots on the patio. Also, when we told them about a six-foot-long crack in the patio finish, they simply suggested we "watch" it over the next year. The stone fireplace with a stone seating wall around the perimeter of the patio is beautiful, but the fireplace smokes excessively out the front. When we contacted Russell about this, these were the options ultimately presented to us as solutions: 1. Lower the fireplace opening dramatically and create something that would look like a "pizza oven." 2. Install a gas line and ceramic logs and give up burning wood. 3. Light a fire at least an hour before we want to go outside. In other words, live with it. As one might expect, none of these options were satisfactory. While we appreciated the company's fast response fixing a sudden issue of water coming up between our house and patio, we know this shouldn't have happened in the first place. They'd evidently merely capped off a sprinkler head when they poured the patio instead of re-routing the water line, a shortcut that ultimately proved unwise. The landscape plants were just as disappointing. The shade plants that died in the first round of planting were not appropriate for their location in full sun. They replaced them with more appropriate plants that didn't survive the freeze we had in December. Interestingly, the same kind of plants in my front yard weren't damaged at all. Russell's response was that there was no guarantee against "acts of God." I'm now in the process of buying and replanting many of my landscape plants including three expensive, espaliered jasmine plants that were well over six feet tall and four feet wide. In Scapes' defense we did experience four cold nights last December here in Dallas. Except for the water issue previously mentioned, their response time on all issues has been slow. After looking back over the past year of our association with Russell and Davey, we simply don't have the confidence in their ability or their commitment to excellence to continue with our relationship or to recommend them. The design of everything was attractive, and the execution of the project has some success, but the failures are significant enough to be, all in all, disappointing. read more

Unprofessional company. I called to get an estimate for some stonework around my flowerbeds and trees. I was asked about whether I knew the dimensions and I didn't. I asked whether they actually come out to my house (like any other company) to take a look and obtain the necessary measurements and I was told that since they have a $2500 minimum, they would hate to come out only to find out my project doesn't meet the minimum. Really now? If their customer service is this horrible even before I become a customer, I don't even want to find out how they will be after they have my money. read more

These bums did a complete front yard landscape redesign for us in Allen. We wanted to fix up our "builder grade" landscaping and really give our home curb appeal. They were great at first, responsive and friendly. Then things went down hill. First they recommended a large section of Knockout roses. When we said, "what about the disease those roses have?", they said "oh that's not a problem". Then they convinced us that the stone bed borders would be far better is cemented into place ("look nicer and last longer"). Not surprisingly all the rose bushes were infected within months, and had to be ripped and and replaced with different species. More surprisingly was that the stone border crumbled within 6 months (literally fell apart in chunks) and multiple other bushes/shrubs died (or were so sickly they wished for a quick death). Most surprisingly was the lack of action after multiple calls and emails to Scapes. Promises to do something are fine, but worthless if you never actually fix anything. These guys are all sizzle, no steak. Run! read more

After 10 minutes of providing contact details and describing the nature of the project to an answering/screening service, I had to repeat it when I was subsequently forwarded to the Dallas office. About 20 minutes after I started all of this, I finally scheduled an appointment for today at 1 pm and it is now 2:15 and I have not had anyone show up or call. According to the gallery, they do good work. My experience is not good and I won't be using their services. I've wasted too much time to be at square 1 again. I think if they can't make the first meeting, I'm not confident in the follow-up. I don't like chasing people down who have appointments. read more

Scapes Incorporated exceeded our expectations with their creative approach, design ideas and sensible pricing.

In April 2018, Jeff came out to look at my space. I gave him in writing my requirements and walked through the area with him. He came back with a plan (I pre-paid $350for the plan) several weeks later. When I asked him to work with me to get some of the costs out, he said it couldn't be done. It wouldn't look good to change anything, he said. The total cost for his plan, including his crew doing the work was about $5500 (little in stone, most plants and labor) for my side yard next to my patio home. I took his list of plants and the associated price and plans with me. Immediately, I saw 2 plants on his list of plants and pricing (about $400 each) which could have been replaced by different plants to get several hundred dollars out of the cost. He never offered to help change out anything. I'd also asked for plants that required little ongoing trimming and would remain rather small. At least one of his plant selections would grow to 8 - 10 feet..at that point, I stopped doing the research on his recommendations. I took his general plan, substituted several plants and had my yard man do the work. My cost was less than $2000 and that included some plantings in the front yard in in decorative pots. read more
