Unfortunately movers made a hash up, literally, of a valuable antique glass dome shade for a torchiere that had been in my family for several generations. They expertly blew a new shade of cased glass in a deep burgundy color as I had wanted it. The result not only enables me to continue to use this treasured light but also maintains the beauty of the piece. The second piece was entirely the result of my clumsiness. Another antique glass picture frame that had a number of complicated elements needed to be restored. They again did a magnificent job in working several different sized cane pieces, refashioned how it could be hung and I now have another beautiful piece for my home. But their work extends far beyond restoring pieces. Their studio (well worth a visit on its own), contains their own artistry in glass. They do largely custom and major work that is remarkably beautiful and intricate. They are truly artists of the first order. That goodness there is still a call for people so skilled.

I had a total blast learning about the process and I even came home with a snazzy red-orange vase that I made. Every time I walk by Pier Glass I tell myself I need to go back and grow beyond my "basic vase". Someday, Pier Glass, someday I'll be back.

The event consisted of a tour of the facility and an explanation of the glass working process, followed by a meal with wine and beer provided by neighboring restaurant 3 Thirty Three. After the refreshments the group of about 30 participants was encouraged to select a glass object in on display and then create their own version of the object with the expert help of the Kinship Glassworkers. The glass objects were various styles of drinking glasses, paper weights, and even a glass flower. You choose the colors and then help the artisans to execute the design. The even takes about 3-4 hours depending on the number of participants. $130 covers the cost of the food, drinks, and the glass object.

I dig it. The Deets: When I went to visit my parents on the recent Easter holiday, I saw the glass eggs I had given them in the past and it reminded me of my visits to Hot Sand on Cookman Ave in Asbury Park where they were purchased. I cannot believe I didn't come on Yelp and show some love but fixing that now. Hot Sand is a shop that is more like a showcase or gallery for some of the amazing glass blown/sculpted items they create and sell. Best thing I can recommend is to look at the pics here on Yelp as well as their own website to get a feel for what they offer. Speaking of offerings, Hot Sand also has interactive opportunities to help create your own glass blown/sculpted items with their artists in the workshop area in the back (check out their website for details/FAQ). Their website states the "immersive, exciting hot glass experiences are one-of-a-kind" and I agreed with what I saw on my visits there. Beautiful glass art made and sold as well as interactive opportunities with the staff does make Hot Sand a unique experience that I recommend visiting when in Asbury Park.

The product took longer to receive back (over 30 days) after they received the mold kit back. I was very excited when it arrived, however, I was disappointed after receiving it as it looks to have been handled in a way that it is pushed in on one side. I think is was due to how it was handled after the pour was made (the mold I provided was completely round), The sides are not smooth and unfinished, not a polished look (except the top) lots of small bubbles. I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I expected more than I should have.

I don't…read moreknow how they have such a high rating & so many reviews are hidden in the "not currently recommended reviews" section that are very accurate. Long island glass is so invested in doing weekly events, that they have the worst customer service I think I've honestly ever seen & rarely ever update the glass showroom with new stuff. When you go to the shop to look at the showroom to buy something, nobody is ever there to even greet you or help you... everyone is in the back in the studio smoking & blowing glass. You have to ring a doorbell just so someone will come out into the actual shop to help you... I've sat in the store for a good 15 minutes before someone even recognized I was there. Trying to get something repaired is a joke and your better off not even bothering. Ive been waiting 2 years at this point just to get a rig repaired & it still isn't done... I've seen car restorations that are faster how? I've even spoke to joe.p numerous times in person to be told it would be fixed by a certain date, just to be continuously lied too directly to my face. I've contacted them on Instagram to have my messages left on read. I've even called their business number on google & the woman who answers isn't helpful at all cause I'm almost positive she doesn't actively work at the studio or has any clue what's going on. It got to the point where she had to literally contact joe just to respond to my messages on Instagram. I will 100% never be doing business with this place ever again & will make sure to tell everyone I know to never deal with this place. If this is how they treat people who support their art, they lost a customer. Not currently recommended reviews

However, as the name on the door is Terry Knickerbocker, my rating is one because I can't give zero. Numerous extremely uncomfortable episodes happened during the time I was there. In some of these episodes, Terry made extremely disrespectful comments about a specific young black student. In my case, because I'm big and muscular, all the criticism was focused on my appearance and how bad my acting was, comparing me to Vin Diesel. I know the intention was to offend me, but thinking about it, Vin Diesel is at least actually acting and not coaching actors. I can't speak for other people or other classes, but as I read on the website that people from minorities have had problems in the studio in the past, there's a good chance this isn't an isolated case. Terry often demands reverential treatment but treats it rudely and impersonally. He demands punctuality but finishes class 40 minutes later. He demands that you answer his comments ( because he doesn't like feeling like an ATM) but interrupts you when you try to express yourself, and especially, like every narcissist, he will shut you down if you disagree with anything or point out any contradictions in the feedback he has given, which happens constantly because In one class he will tell you to be sweeter. On the other, he will complain that you are being too sweet. An art environment, especially for beginners, should be more encouraging, inclusive, and, why not, fun! But Terry seems to have a personal interest in making everything extremely uncomfortable, oppressive, and frightening. Terry has interests other than making the beginning student grow, as he says, "I don't like teaching, but my name is on the door." What he forgets and should be a priority is that the name on the card that keeps his studio open is that of the student. I'm still shocked at how despicable some interactions were, but deep down, I understand that all this sadism comes from a deep resentment for not having been able to have a career as an actor. But even understanding the source, I don't think it's fair that because of his inability to be an actor, he tries to kill the spirit of those starting out and still having a chance to realy make art. I understand that some people will say something different and even publicly defend Terry, most artists, especially actors and actresses, have deep insecurity and seek recognition from this type of sadistic figure or are just afraid of losing opportunities by criticizing a figure who, for them, is a gatekeeper, but, If you want to know what people there really think, ask someone personally. For me, being a veteran, having been born in the projects, the son of a black man, and an immigrant, especially as an artist who creates his own opportunities and directs his own films in his own country I don't need to kiss anyone's ring and I don't need to lie about how disrespectful, uncomfortable and counterproductive my time in Terry's class was. In short, I have never dealt with a more toxic and narcissistic person in my life.
