If you have a penchant for overwhelming crowds, walking at a snail's pace, deafening music, BBQ smoke blowing in your face every few steps, fried foods/lots of meat and tripping over strollers, then Atlantic Antic is a must visit. What I've outlined above is true, but Atlantic Antic, on Atlantic Avenue, is an annual street fair that stretches from 4th Avenue to Hicks Street where tasty eats, drinks and some fun awaits. Caribbean and Middle Eastern cultures dominate, but there's a lot more of everything including Thai, Bratwurst and BBQ. Because of my opening comment, I'm unable to visit Atlantic Antic faithfully each year----crowded street fairs are not my thing. I am more of a breeze through the fair/spectator type of person. From various food and drinks (both alcohol and non) and merchandise to information stands and makeshift outdoor seating, it is easy to drop a few hours and bucks here. Many make the trek to this street fair since it is annual and offers activities for families, children and adults. There is no shortage of choices. Depending on your tolerance, you can waltz right through it or make it a full day. With the crowds, it takes some time to walk through the entire stretch and back. Thankfully, Atlantic Avenue is a wide street. Or you can take short cuts and walk via the sidewalks. After my somewhat brief visit today, I observed that it has become a lot more crowded than what I remembered from the past. Still, it was fun to check it out and have a snack (for me it was falafel and an iced Sorrel drink).

Atlantic Antic is a Fall kickoff, Brooklyn classic. On the first Sunday of October every year, make your way downtown past The Barclay's to experience great food, several vendors and dancing in the streets. There's DJ's playing wonderful music and several vendors to buy from-some private and some from the businesses along Atlantic Ave. This past Sunday I bought CBD goodies, ate a delicious Bajan dinner, met some Brooklyn politicians and political hopefuls and danced with friends old and new. If you can get with long food lines and maybe falling into a line dance with random strangers, Atlantic Antic is where it's at, every year.

Several weekends ago we were all excited to attend the Atlantic Antic - a fantastic street fair /festival that began at Atlantic + Hicks and ended at Atlantic + 4th Ave in Brooklyn. Yes, it is a huge, lively and energetic affair filled with fun, fun and more fun! Here are the highlights: 1.) Beautifully displayed artwork from various artists, sketches, colorful paintings, drawings ,etc. Some of my favorites included a painting of Notorious B.I.G. as well as other modern art. BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), WICKED (sign up to win tickets to see the play), CITY MD (gave out health products), ALT 92.3 Radio Station, BRIC, etc. and so many others were present.... 2.) Local businesses along the Atlantic Avenue route had tables set up to entice visitors to shop. One of the liquor stores had a wine tasting inside their establishment and the Rose' was really good! Aids Healthcare Foundation distributed important information. 3.) Live Bands, Salsa Music, DJ's, people playing so many great instruments like Saxophonists, Drummers, etc. There was a Gospel Choir that sang so wonderfully. So many musicians and singers blessed us with nice music! 4.) Outisde vendors selling accessories, shirts, bags, scarves, etc. The "Brooklyn I Love You" shoulder bag and the "Pray "n" Chill" t-shirt were two of my favorites....a cool diverse display of items to purchase. 5.) Children and adults games and activities - included the kids using chalk to draw in the street, coming down on the slides and playing a jumbo version of the board game "Operation". Boy did they enjoy themselves! Adults were playing things to win prizes. Saving The Best For Last... 6.) Food, Food and More Food-lol. What's a festival/Street Fair without lots of food?! All types of it were there which included a Dumpling Eating Contest and one of my favorite snacks -KIND. They were giving out their delicious Peanut Butter Protein Bars that I eat way too often-lol. Soul Food, Mexican Food,.Sausage and Peppers (so good), desserts, beverages etc. You name it was there... Atlantic Antic provided something for everyone!

I literally come here every year! Great vibes.. nice environment and diversity is the best way to describe this event. Its mainly local businesses that are at this event anywhere from "Crepes" and "Brooklyn Soul Food" to "Blackstone" and marching bands. Today was perfect weather so it seemed like everyone came out to support. In a nutshell, this is a street festival that happens the last weekend in September every year. There is literally something out here for everyone- kid's bouncy houses and pony rides, people are out here selling drinks (with liquor) for adults and elders enjoying themselves. It's really not much to say other than this is the perfect event to come to on a Sunday- I would recommend this for anyone looking for something to do! Ps- there is no parking around here - your best bet is to take a train and leave the car at home :).

Steaming Hot......{Connecticut Style} From Red Hook Lobster Pound

I can't think of any street fair (that stretches for what seems like miles) that comes close to the mix of folks parading from downtown Brooklyn to the conceited corners of Clinton Hill. But, for one day, starting in the afternoon til early evening, everybody mixes, mingles and eats. (Plan in advance and give yourself way enough time to look for parking). You have every restaurant, website businesses (such as Robert Cheau's leathers) and beauty shops imaginable, participating in the Atlantic Antic showcasing their standout products or dish(es). My favorite has been Chez Moi, pulling off an all-seafood paella that once, used to be delicious, or recently popping into the scene- Red Hook Lobster Pound- making their grand entrance with their signature, 'Connecticut-Style' lobster roll. Or Sahadi's Middle Eastern Shop, carrying really juicy baklava. For folks into BBQ, there are countless of kiosks/tents cranking up their BBQ pits for your pleasure. At the end of it all, other than my curls absorbing all the charcoal smells as I walk by the many BBQ pits; driving on and off, for the last 16 years from White Plains to BK's Atlantic Antic, is always fun.

Margarita pizza from Sottocasa Pizzeria and one of the best Sangrias I've ever had. It had so much fresh fruits in it.

I came here with a very special person, in search of a dumpling fair. We soon discovered that we had just landed in the middle of the grandest, and mother of all food festivals. The dumpling event was only a small segment of what seemed to be endless food vendors, activities, music and every ingredient needed for a good time. Italian, Greek, Mexican, Caribbean, Soul food and so much more, whatever your taste buds desired they had it. My favorite was the Brick oven margarita pizza along with the most delicious Sangria Mmmmm. I only wish we had arrived earlier to enjoy much more of the festival. This event was definitely one of the top highlights of my summer, the fun cultured atmosphere, delicious food varieties and the special person I shared this with. I totally recommend it!

I enjoy street fairs, but this one by far is the best in NYC. There's a variety of vendors and I think that's what makes it so great. It was like getting a taste of Brooklyn all in one area. This is the only fair you can find a wide range of businesses, whether it's food, craft, music, clothing, accessories, art, health or music. Atlantic Antic is a great place to take the children for a day out. Yes it is crowded, but several vendors had face painting and crafts for children. There was also about 4 or 5 huge bounce houses. The Transit Museum also had a lot of old NYC buses out for children to enjoy. If you can't tell by now that I enjoyed this fair then something is wrong with you! I can't wait to go back next year. It truly is a great way to end the summer and welcome the fall.

*sings* we're going to the fair

Abso, thee best fair ever. So much food. So many beautiful people. This is a NYC event that I try to make every year. Creative vendors w/ one a kind treats. We had some delish Fried Fish & Shrimp - I so forgot the name of the stand. I'll find it come back and edit. You need to get there early so you can see as much as you can -- it stretches across the whole Brooklyn! (jk). I love it and I will def be back.

Biggest street fair I have seen!

This is probably the biggest street fair I have ever seen! I just happened to be in the area doing my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and noticed the adjacent hubbub around Atlantic Ave. The street was packed with people of all ages, ton of vendors and booths, delicious smelling food, and festive music playing throughout the path. I had just visited Smorgasburg earlier that afternoon so I was too stuffed to eat anything, which was way regrettable - to be honest I wish my friends and I just came to Atlantic Antic instead. One thing that caught my eye was the Palo Santo stand selling street tacos, but actually making the tortillas fresh on the spot (!!). As other people have mentioned, the Transit Museum set up was pretty sweet where you could actually enter the trains and buses. Beer was being sold on the streets by Six Point - they had designated alcohol areas, but about a quarter of the people were walking up and down the street drinking so I don't think it was enforced too strictly even with the abundant presence of cops. I'm definitely going to make it a point to come by next year...hopefully with an empty stomach next time!

Let me start out by saying, this event is not good for children as it states on the Yelp front page. There was a drunk guy running around who almost plowed some guy over who was carrying a baby, but didn't. I'm not going to say who that was but it could have been anyone. Lets not point fingers. Besides that the Atlantic Antic is one of the best annual traditions Brooklyn has going on. If you complain that it's too crowded, then I don't know if you've ever been to a street fair before. Street fair have lots of people. Compared to some I've seen in my lifetime this one isn't on the real crowded side. Beer vendors are all around, serving drinks. They have tents setup which you're suppose stay in. I didn't see anyone getting tickets but it's not worth the risk. In the end it's an officer's discretion. I'd recommend going with Sangria, which can't be proven to have alcohol or pouring your beer into some container or apparatus. The bars along Atlantic are open and want your business and provide the biggest luxury of the day, a bathroom. Get another drink, relax, catch a bit of football, use the bathroom and tip your bartender well. I was also lucky enough to find a gentleman who was selling homemade alcoholic concoctions in dollar water bottles. It wasn't safe, looked very shady and could have been a rip off. Did I get it? You bet! Mmmmm devil springs and fruit punch. The food vendors are always great. From Vietnamese, to jerked meats (sounds wrong), to lobster, to generic festival eats, you can never go wrong. Unless you get something from the shady vendor a block off the trail, who doesn't have a permit and serves food which smells spoiled. But who would get something from a unlicensed vendor. That's so dumb. Plus it wouldn't go with my devil springs and fruit punch at all. Yelp even had a tent setup there. They were given out some swag all day long. Unfortunately I got there late was left with nothing but stickers........ I mean I love Yelp stickers............ and was very grateful they were there. Plus I got to watch some kids play Jenga. By watch I mean ridicule them on the way they play. You can't keep touching pieces. Once you touch a piece you are only allowed to touch that piece. Kids today....... In the end. The Atlantic Antic is a great activity to share with friends and family. Just not babies. But for reals babies, get out of the way of drunk men pretending they're a NFL fullback.

This is my favorite festival in the city. There's so much diversity in Brooklyn and this festival represents that accurately. It's where I come to get my carnival food fix. I've bought some of my favorite products at this festival and will continue income as long as it's around. Time to get Arepas!!

Strolling, and enjoying, the Atlantic Antic.

Since this is a four day music festival I took advantage of all events occurring on each day/evening including the Bedford avenue block party (which was freel), the collabs between upcoming shows like TNT's Claws, Tidal, Wild honey Pie's Beehive event as well as the main stage with performers during the weekend. There were tons of indie bands performing throughout Bushwick, Williamsburg and Greenpoint which made traveling to each venue pretty easy. The headlining concerts at McCarren Park was surprisingly spacious, with different variety of food trucks, vendors promoting new or unknown Apps, while giving away free swag to entice new member with a month's or a few months of free membership; as well as cityMD providing concert goers with first aid needs and announcing a contest for a pair of panorama tickets (I did not win lol). My PIC and I had a wonderful time attending all the different venues, and listening to all the great artists who for the first time, I got a chance to hear up-close and personal. It makes for an interesting crowd, some people only have tech badges while other have music and some have both. It offers a great exchange of ideas and better yet libations. There is also a cute little block party running down Bedford Ave with performances and vendors cheerfully welcoming summer. Some pros are; the event is for charity, environmentally caring, there is a good vibe there, great view by the water, not too crowded, and you sometimes see discounted tickets. Some cons are; some samples are small, some places run out of food, limited samples (you buy ticket books) long lines, overall value. Will I go back next year? Depends on what else is happening that weekend.

I found out about the event through Yelp (yay!) and bought tickets for 8 tastings and 4 beverages. The space was chock full of restaurants selling their best, sponsors hawking their products, and hungry hungry Brooklynites. I arrived around 2 pm and stayed just until it started raining. Lucky for me, I was able to use all my coupons in time! Staff were fantastic overall, with big smiles and enthusiastic attitudes. Now, to the eats: Brooklyn Cupcake - fantastic generous ladies who are passing out the mini chocolate, french toast, red velvet, and vanilla cupcakes like they're going out of style. Brooklyn Floss - root beer cotton candy, a lovely lady spinning the sweets, and lots of happy people in the "smile spot" as they are mystified by their growing cloud of sugar. The Brooklyn Star - winner of the longest line, The Brooklyn Star passed out cheddar cheese waffles with fried chicken, cabbage slaw, and mashed potatoes. Tasty, creative, and pretty. Dirck the Norseman passed out beef brisket and pulled pork with soft buns. Oh so meaty, rich goodness, with a good portion size. Pies and Thighs offered their fried chicken on a biscuit with hot sauce and sweet creamy mayo, which while tiny, is still rich enough to clog your arteries. Maison Premiere was giving out cocktails and oysters on the half shell for a ticket - a nice clean and crisp alternative to the nearby bar fare. Phin & Phebes had six ice cream flavors to sample - or you could get three for a ticket! The ginger cookie and Vietnamese coffee were incredible. Rosamunde Sausage Grill had the second longest line. The Andouille was really solid and they had really fun condiments like wasabi and spicy mayos and cheese sauces Teddy's Bar and Grille had AMAZING beignets. Two Door Tavern had salsa rubbed fried chicken wings - creative, well executed, and delish. Yelp offered a fun gift basket and the usual fun knick knacks- I hope I win! There are probably more that I can't remember. BUT it was such a fun day with very cool people. I reserve a star however - my ticket came with four drink tickets. I can't drink alcohol. So I got lots and lots of free sodas, but definitely not enough to justify the cost of the tickets. I am mollified in that my purchase has made the dream of building the town hall closer, buuuuut may buy one off tickets next year for the food and not drinks.
