You definitely need patience and comfortable clothes and shoes to maneuver the crowds.

It was very crowded but we were able to walk around and check out the local vendors. They had some local entertainment for the children and adults. There was every type of food you can imagine. We opted for a Mexican restaurant (Fatty Daddy) so we could sit down and eat in the AC, lol. I bought some little "Brooklyn" souvenirs and some sweets. I actually enjoyed this fair better than "Atlantic Antic" because it wasn't overly crowded. Definitely something I would check out again.

I typically hate NYC street fairs, but the Fifth Avenue lived up to its name!…read more Unlike some other fairs, where it's all the same sausage and peppers on every block, the Fifth Ave Fair puts a big emphasis on local businesses, with most of the food options coming from those storefronts! There was also a live band, lots of random stuff to buy (mostly jewelry and clothes). I set up station by the Letter of Marque Theater space and watched/participated in some awesome soundpainting and improv performances! Go support them! Also devoured a ton of pizza, and had more than a few beers from Nunu Chocolates. I love drinking in public! The fair also extended pretty far down! From almost Flatbush all the way down to the numbered streets!

It's been on…read moremy list forever, but I go to the movies at most twice a year and there are no Alamo Drafthouses in New Orleans for some reason. Mainly, I love a movie theater with strict rules (even if you have to rat people out for them to be enforced, but I'll get to that). I also love having food and drinks served to me in a theater, literally the best! I saw The Odyssey here with friends and it was a good experience. I love reserving seats ahead of time so that I know what I can expect. There were only front row seats but even in a movie with tons of action, it wasn't that bad (even if not ideal). The food ordering system is easy enough but I doubt I'd order food here again. If you have any specifications or requests for side items, they will likely not make it to you and here's no way to say, "Hey you forgot my side of marinara sauce" without making a big production out of it. So my side never did arrive nor did my friend's even though the server told each of us on separate occasions that our side would be coming out. My pizza was edible (mushroom/arugula) and appreciate the vegan options, but other than popcorn, I'm not sure ordering food is worth it unless you're desperately hungry (I hadn't eaten all day so that was my situation). A note on the snitch policy. They let you know at the beginning that you should text staff if someone is violating the no talking or texting rules. But hello, if that person is sitting close to you, they're going to know who the snitch bitch was. Other than that, a good movie experience and I love having the option to order a glass of wine to my seat. It's just one of life's little pleasures, movies, wine and popcorn.

My friends and I went in to enjoy an exclusive movie experience. We sat down and ordered food and like we typically do at other similar dine in theaters. The food that was delivered to me was not the correct order and so I tried to flag a worker down. I explained to them that I was given the wrong food and they had the worst attitude with me, even though I was super friendly and nice to them. When they brought the food back, they slammed it down on the table, and the food bounced out of the dish and fell on the floor. Even though the experience was horrible I still tipped anyway and was given attitude to the very end of the experience when they picked up the Merchant receipt. That made me realize I should not have tipped in the first place. Based on this experience you'd think I harmed the server myself in someway, but I don't even know these people and it was my first (and last) time at Alamo.

Hosted in Brooklyn Steel, this event was a great way to check out a lot of food vendors/restaurants at one place as well as revisit some old favorites. Every place had samples to try, some more significantly-sized than others, and many were also offering drinks as well. Archie's was a go-to late night order back when my boyfriend lived in Bushwick so I was glad to see they had a presence here.The samples from Guadalupe Inn were my personal favorite - I believe it was some sort of carnitas tostada (whatever it was, it was delicious). My sister and I also loved the little falafel bites with hummus that the Queen of Falafel was serving. Boars Head was popular due to the sheer size of their samples - they had full sausages with delicious mustard and kraut. Whatever brand was sampling the chocolates in the main hall was amazing too - I probably ate 50 of those bad boys. While the samples were abundant and the drinks were free-flowing, the place was a little too packed for my liking. It was, at times, difficult to move around. While lines were fairly manageable, the venue itself was a sardine can. Also, the event was supposed to go from 6:30 to 9 (my sister and I got there a little late, closer to 7:15), yet most vendors were running out/were out of food by 8:15-8:30 or so. Not a huge deal, we still felt like we would have gotten our money's worth had we paid for tickets, but for those who came late, it might not have been a good deal for the $60 ticket price. All in all, a really solid event and I'm really glad I went. Would consider going back next year.

From the moment I checked in (VIP allowed us an extra hour prior to the general public & specialty drinks with a swag bag) the atmosphere was pleasant, inviting and tempting in so many aspects. Tasted so many delicious items paired so uniquely that I was quickly filling my belly until I couldn't breathe (below are some of the photos that my partner in crime and I had the pleasure to try). The array of options was magnificently displayed from cocktails, lite bites, heavier options and of course desserts! The space was just right, although it was an extremely HOT and Humid day, everyone was having a great time, mingling, tasting, dancing, exploring and taking it all in. This was my first time attending the Chile Pepper Festival and it ended up bring one of the best…read morelive music shows I've seen all summer! The festival occurring beforehand in the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Gardens really made this one of the best festivals I've been to in years too. This year was different from events past in that they kept the garden open late, until 8pm. They also had four New Orleans legends of music play an incredible two hour set. We marched in second line fashion to the stage, led by costumed stilt walkers, where we got to see John Papa Gros, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Walter Wolfman Washington, and Irma Thomas. Any one of these performers on their own is a master, but together they were an amazing force of energy and talent and got the crowd up and moving. All ages too, it was so incredible to see little kids jamming out with their parents because Wolfman played the guitar with his tongue! Along with these main acts, the festival had at least three other live musical acts playing throughout the day: The Garvin Blake Ensemble (Trinidadian steel drummers), Buyu Ambroise & The Blues in Red Band (Haitian jazz), and the Plezi Rara Band. There were also live cooking demos from the chef at Lowerline, the phenomenal Cajun restaurant located nearby, a how to make your own hot sauce demo, a pepper tour of peppers from around the world in the herb garden, kid focused activities with free peppers to take home in the discovery garden, a pepper eating contest, farmers markets selling peppers, and cultural exchange booths to learn more about the communities represented in the neighborhood and at the festival. I think the only area that needed improvement were the lack of access to food and beer. I didn't eat or drink anything (besides some samples) because there was only one tent to get these things from and it was both overwhelmed with a long line and didn't have a great selection. I would have loved to see local restaurants serving up their own food instead! I would eat before coming, and bring a refillable water bottle (there are water refill stations). There was a LOT going on, and it was done extremely well, without being too crowded, on a beautiful day. Serious kudos to BBG for making this an amazing farewell to the summer season! Also, with seven musical acts to support, the price of the ticket was extremely reasonable at $30. For a nine hour event that managed to include epic live music acts not usually seen in this city, educational talks and tours, cultural exchanges, AND a ton of delicious hot sauce and condiment vendors - this was an amazing experience and well worth the price of admission.

I eventually snagged a chili/sugar lollipop for $3. I was pretty satisfied with all of the samples I had so wasnt even deterred by the lack of food trucks or offerrings there. If you really want to know the whole story, it's all laid out on their website but reading a bunch…read moreof bullet points on a screen about some big neighborhood spectacle is about the most depressing thing you can do, so I'll explain. ​Basically, the Giglio Feast is a historic 12-day Italian-American festival that happens every July at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's been going on since 1887 when immigrants brought it over from Nola, Italy, to honor Saint Paulinus commemorating when he returned from captivity after sacrificing himself for his people and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. That part actually sounds pretty decent, if you want to know the truth, but the way spectators in attendance make a huge circus out of it just drives me crazy. Then participants are amazing. ​The main event is this thing called the "Dancing of the Giglio," where they take a giant 70-foot tower made of wood and steel weighing four whole tons and covered in lilies, angels, and religious figures and hoist it up. They've got a live brass band and a singer literally sitting right on top of the timber frame while roughly 120 guys lift, spin, and "dance" this enormous four-ton thing down North 8th Street on their bare shoulders. ​Guys in matching outfits blowing saxophones and yelling on the platform, and crowds of people crammed together in the street taking photos and cheering. There's even a statue of a saint perched at the very top against the blue sky, looking down at all these phonies sweating and carrying on in the heat. It's supposed to be this grand, sacred tradition, but looking at a hundred guys breaking their backs to carry a four-ton tower with a band riding on it just makes you feel sort of tired and thirsty. It really does.

I guess I can't speak for the whole festival because I only saw one show, but the show I saw was…read moreexcellent. I was lucky enough to attend the Sasheer Zamata show at the William Vale. My friend and I made a night of it with dinner and drinks at Leuca beforehand and then made our way to the gorgeous terrace. The setting did look a bit like a wedding (floral archway, seating was "bride side, groom side"), which all the comedians commented on. Tickets were cheap, $10 or $15, for a solid 2 hours of comedy. I hadn't heard of most of the comedians, but all were very funny and had great sets. I hope the festival is back next year because I definitely want to see more (very cheap) comedy!
