First year as a member and I absolutely loved it. I was able to attend the premier of "Rough Night Out" and had a blast. My favorite venue was at the William Vale Hotel Roof Top in Williamsburg. I attended a couple of other events that took place at industry city, showing a series of short films supporting independent film makers such as Visit Seattle. Over all great vibes, beautiful scenery and great music. They have some quick bites and and provide wine and beer donated by their sponsors like Tanqueray and Corona. Check them out!

New York has plenty of fantastic events, but Rooftop Films is by far my favorite. Spend an evening under the stars on a graffitied roof top of a chartered school on the lower east side with an opening performance by a local band, an awesome selection of independent films, and free beer at the after-party at a bar nearby. The very fact that they're offering all this in NYC for $12 makes you want to donate to the organization. I've only been to the Open Road Rooftop. You have to walk up a few flights of stairs, but the venue is absolutely amazing. The wide-open rooftop is decorated with graffiti and a skate-board ramp, with exposed windows where you can see the sun set as you munch on snacks and sip drinks they sell by the entrance. The opening bands give you a glimpse into the local talent, and you feel like you're supporting the local arts! As for the films, I have yet to leave the rooftop untouched and unmoved by any of their selections. I've generally gone by myself and haven't taken advantage of the after party, but I'm definitely going to try to catch a few films in the other venues this summer. If you have a few free evenings in NYC, this is a must-visit. Support the independent film industry, and have a blast while you're at it!

Went to the "Lovers of Hate" screening on 6/19/2010. This screening was on the roof of the infamous Seward Park Complex at Essex and Grand. Oddly enough, I used to have an NYU class twice a week in this exact building. But never on the roof. And I dunno if I could've concentrated in class if it was held on the roof. Because this rooftop is spectacular. Walls covered in rad graffitti art, the breathtaking views of the city, the spaciousness... and under the moon and star light... just so quintessentially New York. My friend and I had a fabulously romantical dinner around the corner at 'inoteca and entered Seward Park with a few minutes to spare before the movie began. 10 bucks gets you in. But 6 flights of stairs gets you to your seats. What a hike! We managed to find seats right in the center of it all, but because it's not stadium seating, this lil shorty had to strain her neck to watch the screen. But other than that, no complaints. Truly a gem in the city. Can't wait to see the shorts all about Brooklyn at Fort Greene Park. Check out the rest of the schedule around NYC: http://www.rooftopfilms.com/2010/schedule/ Enjoy!

It offers a more intimate, neighborhood cinema experience with comfortable seating, staggered seating arrangements in some theaters, and often features discounted tickets on certain days, making it a popular local spot. ' Cobble Hill is a landmark, and yes, love supporting an independent theatre. There is a time and a place for "stadium seating" however, there is something to be said for a small theatre. I really like the idea of just 50 people sharing this intimate space. I really feel as if I'm in my living room watching the movie. The theater has been renovated over the years and I must say the seating is comfy, a bit elevated thus no " big head" issues, very clean especially the bathrooms. The popcorn is still delicious and I see they have an add butter "faucet" which has been recently added. CH still offers discounts on Tuesdays and Thursdays; used to be $9 back in the day. It's such a refreshing alternative than going to the big commercial theaters. The ambiance is a lot less chaotic, and the overall vibe feels more personal and intentional. One of the biggest pros for me is the in-theater service. Having food and drinks brought right to your seat is such a treat, and the staff does an impressive job of being as discreet as possible during the movie. You can tell they really try not to distract the audience, which I really appreciate. If I had to point out a con, it's the seating. It's definitely not as plush or comfortable as the big chain theaters like AMC. But in a way, it adds to Nitehawk's charm as more of a family owned business. However, if I'm going in for a three-hour major film, I definitely prefer a comfier setup. I've been here watching a big Marvel film in the past, and the vibe doesn't match for me personally. Overall though, Nitehawk remains one of my go-to theaters in all of NYC. It's perfect for intimate screenings, and nights where I want a cozier, less crowded movie experience.

Also, I've been here dozens of times since this theater opened and the bathrooms have been out of order every single time I've gone. (Pro tip: use the mall restrooms in the basement before you arrive.) It's a shame. This theater used to be simply amazing (I would have given it 5 stars 5 years ago) but has gone so far downhill in the past few years I now only come here as a last resort. Hopefully they'll "shake up" the management soon and hire someone who knows what they're doing. Would love to be a customer again!

I entered and two engineers or project managers? were speaking and I stated " Wow, this is really cool!". They smiled and said "This is Day 3 of the cinema opening". I was in a popcorn and soda mood, picked my snacks up at the Concession Stand and walked to my movie room. I walked down a sleek hall with round leather "pouf" orange ottomans; perfect to sit and wait outside for your movie to start. I love the movie theaters that are small and sleek... oohhh what have we here? Leather seating, leg room, big screen and less crowds!" The popcorn and soda were fresh and delicious. I've been here before for a Zelda orchestra and it was beautiful, totally different vibe. Also, like most NYC venues, food and drinks are there if you want them, but definitely overpriced. I skipped it this time since I ate beforehand.
