New York has plenty of fantastic events, but Rooftop Films is by far my favorite. Spend an evening under the stars on a graffitied roof top of a chartered school on the lower east side with an opening performance by a local band, an awesome selection of independent films, and free beer at the after-party at a bar nearby. The very fact that they're offering all this in NYC for $12 makes you want to donate to the organization. I've only been to the Open Road Rooftop. You have to walk up a few flights of stairs, but the venue is absolutely amazing. The wide-open rooftop is decorated with graffiti and a skate-board ramp, with exposed windows where you can see the sun set as you munch on snacks and sip drinks they sell by the entrance. The opening bands give you a glimpse into the local talent, and you feel like you're supporting the local arts! As for the films, I have yet to leave the rooftop untouched and unmoved by any of their selections. I've generally gone by myself and haven't taken advantage of the after party, but I'm definitely going to try to catch a few films in the other venues this summer. If you have a few free evenings in NYC, this is a must-visit. Support the independent film industry, and have a blast while you're at it!

First year as a member and I absolutely loved it. I was able to attend the premier of "Rough Night Out" and had a blast. My favorite venue was at the William Vale Hotel Roof Top in Williamsburg. I attended a couple of other events that took place at industry city, showing a series of short films supporting independent film makers such as Visit Seattle. Over all great vibes, beautiful scenery and great music. They have some quick bites and and provide wine and beer donated by their sponsors like Tanqueray and Corona. Check them out!

Went to the "Lovers of Hate" screening on 6/19/2010. This screening was on the roof of the infamous Seward Park Complex at Essex and Grand. Oddly enough, I used to have an NYU class twice a week in this exact building. But never on the roof. And I dunno if I could've concentrated in class if it was held on the roof. Because this rooftop is spectacular. Walls covered in rad graffitti art, the breathtaking views of the city, the spaciousness... and under the moon and star light... just so quintessentially New York. My friend and I had a fabulously romantical dinner around the corner at 'inoteca and entered Seward Park with a few minutes to spare before the movie began. 10 bucks gets you in. But 6 flights of stairs gets you to your seats. What a hike! We managed to find seats right in the center of it all, but because it's not stadium seating, this lil shorty had to strain her neck to watch the screen. But other than that, no complaints. Truly a gem in the city. Can't wait to see the shorts all about Brooklyn at Fort Greene Park. Check out the rest of the schedule around NYC: http://www.rooftopfilms.com/2010/schedule/ Enjoy!

It offers a more intimate, neighborhood cinema experience with comfortable seating, staggered seating arrangements in some theaters, and often features discounted tickets on certain days, making it a popular local spot. ' Cobble Hill is a landmark, and yes, love supporting an independent theatre. There is a time and a place for "stadium seating" however, there is something to be said for a small theatre. I really like the idea of just 50 people sharing this intimate space. I really feel as if I'm in my living room watching the movie. The theater has been renovated over the years and I must say the seating is comfy, a bit elevated thus no " big head" issues, very clean especially the bathrooms. The popcorn is still delicious and I see they have an add butter "faucet" which has been recently added. CH still offers discounts on Tuesdays and Thursdays; used to be $9 back in the day. I love supporting this theater and you can't beat Cobble Hill neighborhood which offers a wealth of restaurants, shopping and just a cool area to stroll and view the beautiful brownstones. Then they failed to refund the full amount paid, which included a "service fee". Wasted 2 hours of my and my 5yo son's day in transit, and getting the refund, as well as paying for overpriced popcorn and candy only to be partially refunded for their failure. Unbelievably bad customer service. No shade on the staff (they actually asked me to write this review because "the management doesn't care about them") who were obviously placed in a bad spot. This is all on the management who are running the theater with unethical business practices. Do not go here. Update: They refunded me the service charge, but failed to answer any of my questions as to whether they'd refund others who didn't complain or would change their policy.

The seats recently became all recliners--something that only accounts for part of the AMC theaters and almost none of the Regal ones--and the auditorium I watched Mandalorian and Grogu in (Theater 6) used Dolby Atmos sound. I actually didn't find it too loud, especially compared to some of my experiences at AMC. The pre-show was also really nice and invoked nostalgia--a refreshing departure from the typical experience which now includes product commercials on top of trailers. FOOD I am usually pretty satisfied with the food; my go-to was the chicken sandwich. This time, I tried the Mandalorian and Grogu special menu: harissa ground beef wrap, chicken bacon quesadilla and kid pistachio shake. I was pleasantly surprised how their themed food also hit the spot while being reasonably priced! Now, for the criminal offense: the salt & vinegar popcorn. $12 for nearly inedible food that was extremely vinegary and salty. The only pieces that were fine were the goldfish crackers, but otherwise there was no saving it.

The staff came across as nonchalant and not very engaged, which set the tone right away. The food didn't help either--the spicy tuna was completely flavorless, not crispy and the drinks were underwhelming. We also weren't told ahead of time that you have to pick up your food and drinks yourself, which was surprising since we're used to full service at your seat. On the positive side, the popcorn and truffle fries were decent, but everything else fell short. The seats were just okay--not particularly comfortable. The bathroom situation was also frustrating--it's located upstairs near the restaurant and wasn't well maintained. There were no paper towels, and overall cleanliness was lacking. Overall, this felt like a subpar experience, and I won't be returning. My cousin mentioned the New Jersey location is much better, so maybe it's just this one--but based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it.
