Everyone was cool, confident, funny in a natural way, and honestly just seemed like people you'd want to hang out with afterward. The whole vibe of the night is awesome too. Everyone's dressed up, the room feels intimate, and it somehow manages to feel classy without being pretentious. It's one of the few nights out in NYC lately where I walked away genuinely impressed. If you're going to cancel on customers, at least handle the rebooking process competently and fairly. This felt disorganized at best and careless at worst.

But the sound was so loud, what they sang was garbled, making it difficult to understand and follow. "Do you get this?" I asked my friend. "I can't make out what they're saying!" she responded. So -- very unlike me -- we left during intermission. I don't want to malign the show. The script (from what I gathered) was clever and the performers, talented. The theater itself is a nice, informal off-Broadway venue: a bar in the lobby, comfortable seating with good views throughout. I'll give Asylum another try. I've noticed they feature some interesting productions. (I'm sorry I missed "Naked Magicians.") But for last night's experience, a regrettable three stars.

This is a Must every time we come to NYC, and we have shared the experience with friends, who end up loving it as much as we do. We've been to different time shows and no matter which it's always a great time. All comedians performing always bring their A-Game and have us laughing all night long. To the point that we are repeating jokes the next day and still laughing. You get to see at least 5 different comedians, and sometimes even "bigger names" show up trying out new material, or just because they're in town. Reservations are really recommended, especially if you are visiting, as it does get sold out, and even thought there's a wait-list line, it get's sold out quick and not guaranteed you will get in. And, believe me, this is not something you want to miss. I just got back and can't wait for my next time there!

We were so glad to get in via standby list for a Saturday 1045p show! We didn't have a reservation…read more STANDBY: We had just missed the 9p show and only 2 people were successful via standby. A guy at the door said people usually line up a little before one hour before the show to get on the list and staff members come at one hour before. I got in line (first in line lol) at 9p and people really started lining up around ~930p. The staff came around 945 to allow us to scan the QR code (must present ID) to reserve a spot in line. You only need one person per party to scan the QR code. He told us to come back at 1045 (no need to be in an ordered line) to see if our names would be called. After they let in people with reservations they returned to the standby line. I'd say maybe ~12 people got in that time. The staff member said people usually have more standby success for later shows. THE SHOW: The show was spectacular. They understandably ask that you put your phones or Apple Watches in a sealed envelope that you keep with you during the show. We saw five acts - 3 were strong, 2 were weaker. The weaker 2 didn't bomb but we just didn't enjoy as much. There is a cover charge + 2 item minimum per person. The item can be food or a nonalcoholic beverage, so no worries if you don't drink alcohol. Service was good. It's a cramped space but not uncomfortable and I think there's really no bad seat in the house. Such a fun night. :)

Only 1 year in competition team, I've seen her making progress in an unbelievable speed - from hardly remembering her recital pieces to performing 3 different solos in different style on big stage and won the placements. I was trying to get him to chant A**HOLES too but he wouldn't bite. He said men are a**holes because they used to be hunters...okay. ahahhahah. That's why I love him! He's my hunter, now go hunt! This play reminds me of the book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The play is set at one of the character's home, Nicole is throwing a soiree to celebrate meeting her internet fling for the first time, at this soiree!! Nicole invited her whole entire family to meet this internet fling that she herself never met...WHO DOES THIS??!! Nicole's family consisted of her sister and her BF, her brother and his GF, and her best friend and her BF. There was another couple that were supposed to be at the soiree but never showed up. All these couples are all having dysfunctional relationships, which makes for a funny play. This play takes a look into human nature, human relationships and human behavior. Sometimes the play may seem over the top, overly dramatic and highly passionate to get some laughter from us, but I recognize the characters all to well!! I know people just like the characters on stage in this play. I definitely have seen some of the characteristics even in myself. I felt ashamed at times...but laughed at myself! The comic timing in this show is awesome. My favorite couple is Hillary and George who never even made it to the soiree! I was laughing through the whole show. Even coming back from the intermission was fun! Be forewarned, women are going to be portrayed as psychotic beings, men are going to be portrayed as insensitive liars and we all need each other in unhealthy ways. But at the end it's all for laughs and for fun which this play definitely accomplishes...I would highly recommend this entertaining show for any adult who has been through dating or relationship angsts. The Moth is a storytellers event that occurs at different places, and the one I went to was at Housing Works Bookstore and Cafe, which was the perfect venue. It started at 7:30 and ended at 9:30, there's no drink minimum, you can bring your own food, and tickets are cheap, but hard to get. It's essentially a show where people who'd previously entered their names get picked to tell stories in under five minutes. Anyone can do it, and anything can be said. There were funny ones, sad ones, dramatic ones, silly ones, overall twelve performances along with a host who introduces each one. They also sell drinks and snacks there, which goes to a great cause. Whether you're looking for something New Yorky, cheap, chill, cute, or thought-provoking, The Moth will satisfy.

Going to a Story Slam hosted by The Moth is actually one of my favorite things to do in the city…read more The story slams happen 4-6 times a month at various locations around Manhattan and Brooklyn (see the website for schedule). Each slam has a different theme. If you feel that you have a worthy 5-min story, you can put your name in the bag, where they draw out names. Ten storytellers go up and these stories are judged by three teams of judges from the audience. The winner of the slam goes on to the Quarterly GrandSLAM Championship. It lasts about 2.5 hrs and costs $8. I've gone to a couple of these at the Housing Works and I'm always really impressed by the quality and talent of most of the storytellers. Many of them take this quite seriously and you can tell that they spent time crafting their story and delivery. The best stories aren't the ones that are merely funny, but they're poignant, send you on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows, and leave you with a message and something to think about. There's a certain raw honesty and catharsis that comes through and the audience is always supportive, especially so for the new storytellers who stand up there alone and vulnerable. Indeed, if the audience feels the judges are too harsh, the audience lets the judges know. At the Story Slam at Housing Works, the doors open at 7 pm (stories start at 7:30). There are limited seats, so if you're dead set on sitting, stand in line by 5:30. There are plenty places to stand and get a good view as Housing Works' second floor is a mezzanine. Recently I got to the line by 6:30 and easily found a comfortable spot to stand and watch (wear comfortable shoes!). The ticket sales of the Story Slam goes directly to The Moth. Housing Works, which is a wonderful organization that helps people with HIV/AIDS, sells alcohol and snacks, so you're giving to a great cause by drinking.

After standing for a few hours, I really regretted not getting a ticketed seat for myself. So in the future, I'm glad that I have that option. Once you enter The Shed, you take the escalator upstairs to get to the concert hall. At the end of the concert, the doors open and lead you out right next to The Vessel so I thought that was a nice visual perk at the end of the concert. I hope I get a chance to come back and get to walk around the place and see a little bit more of it.

Theater review: seating was 3 escalator flights up where most seats were good ones. Comfortable folding style chairs with the theater exhibiting good lighting and audio. There was a mobile bar during intermission that offered wine, water and soda for purchase. I didn't see any merchandise for sale. Production review: When I learned Tom Hanks would be performing Off Broadway in "This World of Tomorrow", I was eager to get tickets. Although the production is Off Broadway, the prices were definitely Broadway and no surprise there with headliner Tom Hanks--one of my top favorite actors of all time--in the starring role. The play takes place in the year 2089 and is all about time travel with Hanks' character--Bert--traveling back to 1939 during New York's World Fair. Without giving anything away, the storyline explores themes on falling in love, technology and what makes life meaningful. We really enjoyed the production which runs through December 21. Overall, it received positive reviews. Some were mixed and in my opinion, I thought the play should have been shaved down by 20 -30 minutes (it was 2 hours + 15 min with intermission). As a Tom Hanks fan, it was truly a delightful treat on a holiday weekend.
