Really cool experience. A bit pricey - 90 per person. I tried the Spin Wheel and Sip experience. It was a ton of fun, spinning is not as easy as it looks lol. Daniela was amazing instructor, thank goodness. She gave a great demonstration and was helpful throughout the whole 2 hour experience. Some recommendations: we didn't all get an apron which would of helped, they need more towels here, and maybe some light music to get the creative juices going. read more

This was my first time working with a pottery wheel, and let me tell you, it's much harder than it looks. It's also incredibly calming, though--like a peaceful, messy escape. Speaking of messy, definitely wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you've got plans afterward, bring a change of clothes because clay has a way of sneaking onto everything! The 2-hour session is well-structured. You get an intro and demo to start, followed by free time to create and then a cleanup session. Honestly, time flies because you spend most of it practicing and experimenting, especially as you get used to the wheel. If you're coming with friends or a date, be sure to arrive early to snag seats together--it's first-come, first-served, and you might end up separated if you're late. At $90, it's a bit of a splurge for a one-time experience, but it's definitely worth it if you're looking to try something new. You get to keep one piece you make (they fire it for you), but I'll admit none of mine turned out exactly how I wanted. Still, I picked one just because it was my own creation. It was my first time at a pottery studio and this was a great first experience. The instructor was great! She started the class with an instructional section and then came around to help us out so that we can actually produce something! A 2 hour session is a great amount of time! We are able to practice about 4 times and we get to choose what we bring back. The space is cool! There is a decent amount of stations for people to take the class. There is also a beautiful outdoor garden and a separate section where they glaze things A few things that were inconvenient: To book the experience, it was a bit inconvenient that we couldn't book as a group- which made it so we had to book independently! For a group of 4 people, that was just difficult, especially because the seats book up fast. Very cute little spot in Williamsburg, I bought this class for me partner and I as part of a Christmas gift! We did a Saturday evening class and it was my first time throwing on a wheel. It was harder than it looks but the time flew by. A lot of hands on and quick instruction which I appreciated. You get to keep one piece which they glaze white and fire for you (pictured). They have 2 wheel rooms and a hand building room. They also have a garden you can work in all year with heaters in winter to keep you warm. Scammy business practices and horrible customer service. I registered for an evening wheel class but unfortunately got COVID last minute. I let them know immediately by phone and email, and they agreed to give me class credit if I sent a positive COVID test. I sent two and never heard back. Only received a response almost three weeks later, after I had filed a dispute through my credit card and uploaded screenshots of our emails where they had promised me class credit. They then tried to lie and pretend I had had credit all along and that they had called me informing me (then changed strategies to blaming me for opening a credit card dispute after I pulled up my phone logs disproving that.) Oh, and forget about refunds, they'll just ignore you. I've been to a bunch of ceramics studios in the city (Brickhouse, Studio Barro, Brooklyn Clay Industries, Potter's Wheel) and never had any issues like this. Save yourself the trouble, and go to those studios instead. read more

Two-hours of pottery class was overall fun. I definitely enjoyed learning and bringing home my creation! It was always a curiosity of mine and I am glad I tried it. If you are coming here with a group, come earlier so that you can pick seats next to each other. When everyone arrives, the instructor will greet the class and go over some housekeeping rules. There will be about 15 to 20 minutes of instructions on how to use the wheel and how to mold the clay. After the instructions, you are on your own. When you think you got something, you should stop and let the instructor finish it and get it off the wheel for you. You can keep one of your creations for free, which comes with the class and others will be $8.00 each (which is not bad). They will ceramic the one you chose for your pick up in about two-weeks. I came here with my friends and we liked the activity. In terms of customer service, it felt rush and in a sense, their impatience towards beginners, comes off as unfriendliness. It is funny that I am even commenting about the customer service because the instructor of my class joked about comments about their unfriendliness so they have to be nicer to us. Funny joke for beginning of the class but yeah, they really need to be more friendly. Ironic, much? (lol) read more

It looks so easy to make, but apparently you have to be patient. my husband and I had a plan to make 2+ vases and 2+ bowls lol, but we ended up making a few bowls during 2 hours.. We just had so much fun! cleaning equipment can be time consuming.. wish there are more sinks so it reduces time for cleaning. I also wish it was for 3 hours, not 2 because time goes by so quick (explanation took 30 mins..) highly recommend! read more

Friendly and warm environment-The top-down model is very apparent here. The owner, Nadeige, is a very kind and helpful person and so are all the staff at Choplet. Sadly, this is not typical of other pottery studios. Everyone is so kind here. 3. There are many different classes and the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful. 4. I love it that I can sign up for studio time so that I can come in and practice at my convenience. 3. The studio has a huge amount of wheels and hand building equipment, but best of all, is the outdoor garden. I love working outside. There are even heaters for cold weather. 3. There is a large assortment of clays and glazes. My pretty ordinary bowls come out looking beautiful (see my photos). We took a sip & pottery class here through Course Horse, and I really regret spending so much money on this ($72pp) because it is not worth it. First of all, our instructor was horrible. She didn't have a good attitude and she barely got to help us because the class was so big. I think there were at least 12-15 people all in a very tiny area. When we did get help, she seemed super frustrated at us because she had to go around to so many people needing help. It's not our fault for not having any pottery experience (because that's what this class is for....) Thankfully, the woman sitting next to me had experience and she was much more helpful than the instructor was. Make sure you don't wear anything that you care for, and try to wear short sleeve shirts. They have aprons at the studio, but they are pretty dirty. BYOB is their biggest selling point, but honestly you can do that anywhere. In the end, we finally made one bowl each, and we have to come back in 2-3 weeks to pick up the fired up pieces. We'll see how they come out, but please save your money and look for another studio. read more

Dominic was our instructor and he made sure we all had a good time with laughs, music, and pottery expertise. This is a great class for beginners. There's room for about 10 people in the class and they provide all materials for you. You learn how to make a cylinder and bowl, and you can make up to 4 pieces in the two hour class. From the ones you make, you get to keep one for free. All others you'd like to keep are $8. We chose 5 total for the both of us Make sure you wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty because you'll definitely get some clay/clay water on you. This is a great creative outlet. It was actually very relaxing and therapeutic. The only thing I'd like is to learn more than a cylinder and bowl shape. read more

I purchased a one day class (2 hrs) for my friends birthday and myself. Prior to this class I had done a pottery class at another studio in Brooklyn and this class was so much better. First of all, they are way more helpful here. The instructor comes around and checks to see if you need any help and offers guidance if you need it. They will also offer to help you center your clay if you're struggling. The instructors are encouraging and friendly and I left feeling proud of my clay pieces. I definitely want to look into doing the wheel throwing pottery semester course. read more

Choplet Ceramic Studio is exactly what we were looking for our 9y daughter and 12y old son as an afterschool program. That place has a great vibe, super porfessional, and at the same time you feel like at Nadeige's home, she is passionate, her staff is lovely and always very welcoming and patient. This place is cruel. I booked a class but a few days before my friend died. I emailed asking to come in another day and they asked me for the OBITUARY. This is so heartless to someone grieving. Who would make up their friend dying? I understand places can have policies but this is evil and cruel. I will obviously never be going here and would never support a business that has zero empathy. I'm just pissed they have my $90. People should be kind. It's a $90 ceramics class. They also wanted me to pay an EXTRA $10 for rescheduling. I came here for a Saturday morning wheel throwing class. The instructor was very welcoming, knowledgable, and helpful. He gave an introductory presentation and put us to work right away. He spent time with everyone individually. He was great at finishing pieces, saving others, and remained encouraging when a piece became a lost cause. It was a full class in a small, tight space. I came alone but the couples sitting close to me and the others in the class were friendly and supportive. It was a great group, everyone just wanted to have a good time. I ended up making 3 small bowls. By the end of class, everyone had something to bring home and felt successful in their work. I wish we had more glaze options but the white speckle glaze is pretty classy. I'm looking forward to picking up my pieces in a few weeks! Tip: (1) Wear workout clothes and sneakers, or clothes and shoes you don't care about getting messy. They have smocks but the clay splatters and it's hard to wash out of clothing. Nadeige created custom ceramic crocks for our kitchen and we couldn't be happier. Living in New York, my wife and I were confronted with the challenge of organizing a kitchen in a small space. We were looking for something to place on our countertop to hold garlic and onions. Our countertop is visible throughout our one bedroom apartment, so we were looking for something that was interesting. We searched for pre-made containers high and low, but ultimately we couldn't find anything that matched the colors in our apartment or was the correct size. We wrote to Nadeige at Choplet to see if she would take up our project. We were delighted when she agreed to help us. After sending her a few pictures of similar items, she very quickly understood the project and quoted us a price. We were completely new to ceramics, so we arranged a time to the studio to pick out a color. When we came to the studio we asked many questions, we decided on a "CV Green" glaze on speckled clay. We came back a few weeks later and the crocks were completed to our specifications. We are very pleased with the final product. I bought an expensive private pottery class as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. We booked a date in advance, when the day came there was a blizzard warning to stay indoors. After calling the studio and expressing concerns about our commute in a blizzard as it would be extremely unsafe, the woman on the phone was not understanding whatsoever and kept talking over me on the phone repeatedly saying "you cannot reschedule or get your money back." After emailing the studio we were finally able to reschedule. On the day of out private pottery class, we felt very unwelcome and there was definitely a judgmental vibe in the studio. The instructor ended our class very early and told us it was time to clean up... which followed by her gathering tools/materials and handing them to my girlfriend and I as we stood by the sink and washed every single tool/material by hand while the instructor starred at us. This was laborious and took a total of 20 minutes with no thank you from the instructor. For over $300 we should not be washing dishes for 20 minutes while also feeling extremely uncomfortable in this studio. When we were done cleaning up, the instructor presented us with her venmo for a tip. We are big tip people, always do 20%... but the way she presented us her venmo after making us wash dishes plus the unwelcoming atmosphere definitely made us feel even more uncomfortable. We left the studio feeling angry and confused. When it was time to pick up the pottery I still felt the uncomfortable and judgmental vibe in the studio as I stood there for a long time waiting for someone to help me and being stared at with disgusted looks by employees. This review is for anyone considering this place for monthly rental and the 8 week classes. Proceed with caution. This place is only for amateurs and BYO wheel throwing date nights in my opinion. As others have mentioned your work can go missing in the firing process. When it comes time to fire in the kiln, your pieces gets thrown in with everyone else's so if someone else's work explodes or the glaze runs - that vase you've spent a week working on becomes collateral damage. Things get stolen, broken, etc. The owner is cold and unpleasant to deal with. The space is extremely small and uninspiring. The other potters there are actually very friendly and accommodating during busy times but it's a real struggle to work on your art here. read more
