It was my first time at a pottery studio and this was a great first experience. The instructor was great! She started the class with an instructional section and then came around to help us out so that we can actually produce something! A 2 hour session is a great amount of time! We are able to practice about 4 times and we get to choose what we bring back. The space is cool! There is a decent amount of stations for people to take the class. There is also a beautiful outdoor garden and a separate section where they glaze things A few things that were inconvenient: To book the experience, it was a bit inconvenient that we couldn't book as a group- which made it so we had to book independently! For a group of 4 people, that was just difficult, especially because the seats book up fast. We also had to clean up after, which is totally fine but I didn't expect for us to spend so much time washing off all the pottery stations

Very cute little spot in Williamsburg, I bought this class for me partner and I as part of a Christmas gift! We did a Saturday evening class and it was my first time throwing on a wheel. It was harder than it looks but the time flew by. A lot of hands on and quick instruction which I appreciated. You get to keep one piece which they glaze white and fire for you (pictured). It has become a bowl I use to whisk my matcha! Obsessed! My partner couldn't get over the fact that they make you clean the last 15-20 minutes but I thought it was a great and fun experience!

Private lesson. - Multiple people are working on pottery projects in a ceramic studio, using pottery wheels and clay. Shelves filled with pottery supplies, tools, and materials line the background. The studio has a bright window, and the workspace includes various pottery equipment and work surfaces.

I have been a studio potter at Choplet since Sept. I really enjoy working in this studio. There are many wheels & several studios to work in, and an outdoor space too. The people who work at Choplet are very nice and I feel welcome to do my own thing. There are many different class options at Choplet, both group & private, for kids & adults. My 15 year old daughter took a private lesson as a Bday gift & she loved it!! It's great to see all the interesting & beautiful work made by the studio potters, teachers & students. I recommend.

I have worked in clay for over 40 years and have been associated with incredible studios! Choplet is one of the special places, one of the incredible ones! . They have 2 wheel rooms and a hand building room. They also have a garden you can work in all year with heaters in winter to keep you warm. They have classes for all age groups, very helpful and friendly staff as well as the community of artists that make this Williamsburg studio a wonderful place to take your first pottery class or become a member and work 24/7 if you like. They have many clay bodies to choose from and your own shelf so your work doesn't get damaged. I can't say enough as to how great Choplet is and how lucky I am that I found it.

If you want to have fun with clay and learn some basics at the same time, this is a great place. They have 2 hour classes on weekends for people that are absolutely new to pottery - definitely give that a shot. My partner and I went here today with a few others for a 10 AM class. The class was amazing, and fun. The level of instruction was understandable, and we made some amateur pieces of pottery ourselves that we were honestly impressed by. The teacher came by to each wheel and helped us as needed.

The setting features a transparent roof, wooden framing, and visible plants, with sunlight streaming in. The women are smiling and appear to be participating in a gardening or craft activity.

I had a " Ghost Themed" private class at Choplet for my birthday. My friends are still telling me that we have to do it again . The owner and staff at Choplet were so welcoming and friendly . Special thanks to Rachel who was so professional and attentive in assisting me to set up this event . I highly recommend requesting Alison as your instructor, she was so patient and encouraging. Thank you Choplet ! We will be back

Amazing experience here. I've loved coming here in general. A real sense of community at the studio exists.

I took a great one-week beginner's class at Choplet this past summer, and immediately signed up for a membership. From the knowledgeable instructors, to the dedicated staff, Choplet creates a wonderful environment in which to grow as a potter. The thing I've enjoyed most throughout my membership is the community of supportive fellow potters at Choplet. I can always count on the other members and students for encouragement, information and even a little bit of friendly competition. If you're a total beginner, still honing your skills, or a seasoned ceramicist, Choplet is an excellent choice of studio, and I highly recommend it!

I was a little bummed because there were too many people in the class, and I ended up not being able to make more thin rings. The instructor was constantly being chased around so I pretty much tried to DIY everything. In this four hour jewelry making class, I made one thick band with a polished finished and a thin band with texture and matte finish. You start off with a metal wire then you get your finger measured to get the desired length of wire. Then you start to bend the wire in a ring shape. When you get close enough you have to file down the edges and make sure they are aligned to close perfectly. The next step is the soldering process where you heat up the metal and add a filler metal to join the two ends together. After you heat up the metal you have to pickle the metal to clean off the oxidation. After pickling you need to file, polish and then clean your jewelry. As you can see it is a long and time consuming process, I have definitely realized the worth of handmade jewelry- making even one of these was time consuming and takes a lot of effort. What was difficult was that I started out with the thick band it took forever to bend the metal even with tools! Before you can apply a metal and piece them together, the opening must be filed down and match exactly otherwise your opening won't close perfectly.

The first day of class no teacher introduced herself to me, so I have no idea about who is the leader, what are their names... It's just a really weird vibe. The fact that the art classes are good is not enough reason for me to recommend this place; the teachers need some training regarding their social skills and manners. It seems as if somebody told them to ignore parents completely when they come in. Also, they should learn to smile a little. No signing up for next semester or ever again.

The way the classes are structured is extremely smart - building from fun materials that they can play with to the art projects that are related to those very same materials. I also LOVE being able to expose the kids to projects where they are encouraged to get messy ... and then not have to deal with the clean up at home! Great school if you want to build solid foundations of skills from the tradition of the old masters. Adult evening classes are well attended but not too crowded. Have not worked with all the teachers yet but so far I've felt really supported and nurtured, but not pampered. Really have to leave your ego at the door and come ready to work and absorb. Shout out to teacher Leo K for his patience, great skill, dry sense of humor. Varvara super as well. Heard good things about the other teachers but those mentioned were the ones I could coordinate with my work schedule. Now, the reason for this review. Bridgeview has a summer "Art Camp" in France each year and I was lucky enough to attend- 7 days of painting, touring, eating (Did I mention it is in France?) and good vibes, on the Brittany coast. I'm still high from it. School founders Lena and John acted as hosts and instructors - they've been doing it for 10 years all around France (And also Virginia USA which I may try next spring) and they know what they're doing. A completely joyful and rich experience that I have to Yelp about.. Down side, classes and trips can stress out your pocketbook. All I can say is the attention I've gotten in my artistic "journey" made it worth saving my pennies and investing in a Bridgeview education.
