So I had to send an email with our voucher numbers to reserve our seats. Luckily, we snatched street parking directly outside since commercial parking on that block ends at 6pm (yay!). Class starts at 7pm. After climbing one set of stairs, we walk into the studio. Nikki, our instructor, greets us then provides a quick overview of the space. We select our seats, hang our coats, grab aprons and two slices of pizza per person. Who doesn't love a pizza party? I appreciated the prompt start, because it was a two-hour experience. The class itself (with 10 students including us) was pretty cool and relaxing. It was easy to "paint along," because there was a well-positioned TV that was connected to a camera over her canvas. She gave oral instructions as she demonstrated the techniques. We did our best to replicate what she just demonstrated as she walked around to give individual pointers. My right arm was definitely tired due to the repeated strokes lol, but we had a great time. Clean up was a breeze and it didn't take long for our canvases to dry. We're excited to come back for more classes. Aside from painting your own piece, you can also browse the pieces available for purchase. I can't think of a better way to adorn the bare white walls of our home than with DIY pieces.

My younger son has been going to Barking Cat since he was three, and it really is the high point of his week. He'll talk about the projects he did there all week, carry them around, take them to bed within. And I can see that she has a similar effect on other kids there. Barking Cat is an undiscovered gem. There are classes for a range of ages and the prices are quite reasonable. If you live in Windsor Terrace or Kensington and have a small child with any interest in art (or even one who doesn't seem to) you should look into it. It seems like attendance has dropped off a bit after the pandemic, which is a shame. Kids are missing out on the best art experience of their childhoods.

Everything from the initial course description, to registration, to attending classes, to knowing what was done in each class from Nicole's weekly email updates--all explained clearly and accurately so that we knew exactly what to expect and could talk about the day with our son to discuss the things he learned with Nicole. I couldn't believe the amount of activities and creativity Nicole facilitated within the time she was with the kids. It was a dream to have a class that included painting, drawing, reading, writing, storytelling, making smoothies, and social-emotional learning. And Nicole does it so seamlessly, allowing the kids to be creative and enjoy the time with each other. It was play at its best! But what I loved the most was seeing everything my son created by the end of the course--which included a superhero cape, mask, tools, artwork, a self-portrait, book (that Nicole had hard bound!) and the beautiful photos of my son in his costume in front of a backdrop the kids had created. Nicole not only took the photos but printed them out for us to frame! My son looked like a real superhero and had the biggest smile on his face. Nicole is clearly a seasoned, skilled, and enthusiastic educator whose kindness and patience with children is rare. She really, truly understands kids and gives them the tools and encouragement young ones need to flourish with new challenges. I can't recommend her courses enough--I'm hoping we can take another one with her soon!

This summer, my four-year-old son spent two consecutive weeks in Nicole's camp sessions and was overjoyed to go every morning. Nicole is a stunningly creative, highly experienced teacher who puts tons of energy and thought into every activity she plans. I could not recommend From Wonder more enthusiastically to any family who values educational enrichment, fun and creativity for their kids.

We found the event listed somewhere online at the last minute and it mentioned motorcycle cage stunts and it just seemed so big and dramatic for Brooklyn. We followed the address to a warehouse sandwiched between a cemetery and a burnt out wrecked car. It added to the mysterious, carnival atmosphere. It's a on dark, desolate street, and an old door leads you into a room full of mismatched Bohemian furniture, brick walls, fairy lights, and lots of laughter. I didn't feel like I was in NY anymore, this was almost like a small towns roadside carnival. The show starts off tame with spinning plates and a clown, then escalates to some pretty aerialist acrobatics, a man whose very talented with a whip, and finishing off with some feats of strength and balance before...a man balances a pole on his shoulders while at the top of the pole another man rides a motorcycle in a cage. Man, they delivered. See the photos! This alone is worth coming out for, but the whole show is so great. It's family friendly (plenty of kids in the crowd) but there's plenty to keep adults amused too (plus beer, no snacks though). The bathroom is also very cute. All the stalls to the doors are painted in different ways, with old mirrors and lots of wood, it looks like a Secret Garden themed antique art space. And they have an old timey prize machine: for $5 you get a little weird prize. We chose a "paw print" (see photo), which a local artist makes. Delightfully weird! Their merchandise table was also full of some great finds. Some cons: The entry way is small so once it gets closer to show time the line snakes out the door, but that's not so bad. The chairs are torture devices. The worst freakin chairs I ever sat on. I took a pillow from one of the couches in the waiting area but it really didn't help, I stood for the second half of the show towards the back and had no trouble seeing anything. I really can't recommend this to people enough, it's good for everyone :)

Unsure if I will go back. The staff wasn't helpful. Said they would relay my thoughts to the manager. Not sure if they will so decided to go to Yelp. " I am a parent of three children who have studied musical theater through Brooklyn Players, in both the summer and school year (after school) programs. Brooklyn Players is fantastic, and my kids have gained tremendously from attending. I am impressed with the way they have developed my children's skills to such a high level in a program which is truly fun and nurturing, and where teamwork aspects of theater are strongly emphasized. I have never before seen a performing program (for music or theater) where there is such a relaxed feeling but such amazingly professional results. I have one child who just started college but attended Brooklyn Summer Players every year from age 9 to 13, and I have one much younger child who recently completed his first year in the 4 week summer program. I find the staff very talented, and it has been fun to watch the kids grow and develop in the program. When my now college-age son applied to high school, he was admitted to some very selective programs (like the very small, highly esteemed theater program at Edward Murrow high school). It has been fun and impressive to see the Brooklyn Players graduates continue their successful efforts to perform in school and outside of school as well. Many students from Brooklyn Players end up with leading roles in high school productions, whether or not they choose to attend selective arts programs for high school. I am glad my sons learned so much from Brooklyn Players, but I think it is equally valuable that the program was really fun for them too. I am delighted my youngest is still in Brooklyn Players and continuing to enjoy and learn from it as his older brothers did. I highly recommend the summer program as well as the school year classes. We are fortunate to have such a great program in Park Slope.

The after-school classes are the perfect size; each student gets a lot of individual attention. The caliber of students is very high, yet there is an atmosphere of mutual support instead of competitiveness. When my daughter began voice classes with Corinne, she was not so confident in her abilities. I am almost more pleased with her increased confidence than I am with her technical skill, but she has Brooklyn Players to thank for both at this point. Sadly, we are leaving the area, so she can't do the summer show this year, but she has been accepted into a very selective summer theatre program in the area we are moving to. We have been so fortunate to have this amazing resource right here in the neighborhood; Brooklyn Players is a great choice for any kid with an interest in performing.

I've wanted to visit the Shiny Sparkle Lab ever since I saw them on a local news highlight. We…read moredon't have enough of these unique creative hubs in our city, so this place is really a gem. I've done glass fusing in the past and loved it, so I decided to finally visit and take a class that focused on making either a Charcuterie board or coaster set. I took the class as part of my birthday weekend on 2/10. It is usually $124 however, I received 30% due to an advertised deal on their site (code sp30). I traveled by train from the Bronx to get here and was very excited however, my experience wasn't as exciting as I anticipated. Unfortunately when I arrived, I got lost. I walked back and forth trying to find the space and even asked around, but no one had heard of it. I looked online trying to find a phone number and to my luck, there is none. After walking around for 15 minutes, I finally found it. The door/entrance has a small sign with their name on it. Maybe it's just me, but they need a better indicator. The business is located on the upper level of what seems to be an executive park of some sort. Meaning, one building with multiple businesses inside or around the premises. The building itself looks like its under heavy construction. I would never have imagined that any sort of classes were being conducted there. Nonetheless, I made it just in time as the instructor, Dorie, seemed to have just began. She gave a great overview of glass fusing techniques and offered tips on making our piece as great as possible. Her directions were also very clear and concise. Once she was done, we were directed to begin our masterpieces. There were 12 students including myself. We were placed at a large table where all of the materials were laid out for us. Each person had a section or workstation at the table to work from. In addition to the wonderful layout, we were offered some delicious bites of charcuterie treats, wine, and water. I took an apron and got to work. The entire class was about 3 hours. We were offered a sheet of paper to sketch out our design. I did not like this nor did I expect it. I was under the impression that we'd do a predetermined design. Sort of like when you participate in a Paint and Sip class. I am not a creative person, so it takes me a long time to figure out a design from scratch. Nonetheless, I came up with something that I thought would be lovely. As mentioned, the table is filled with a variety of materials to create your masterpiece. Unfortunately, a lot of the glass pieces come from larger pieces that seemed to have been cut previously. Many of the pieces were cut unevenly or in various shapes so it felt like I was putting a puzzle together. I had to find pieces that fit into one another as best as possible to make some parts of my design cohesive. My design was somewhat abstract. I focused a lot on various sized boxes and lines. It was difficult to do this with broken pieces because I ended up having to cut them more to make them into squares or find multiple pieces of the desired color to make it as close to a square as possible. In my past experience with glass fusing, they offered pre-cut squares and full glass sheets for me to work with, which made it alot easier. In the end, I ended up staying behind to finish my piece because I just could not find enough cohesive pieces to fill the plate. Honestly, I just threw whatever on it to make it complete because I was tired of it. Despite my lack of creative frustration, the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Whenever I needed help or guidance, they were only steps away to assist. In addition, they were so patient with me as I remained behind to finish while others left. Once complete, they took my name and placed it aside to be fired up. I received an email that it was ready for pick up and stopped by accordingly. Overall, I'm not in love with the finished piece but I'm content with the experience. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I had some direction for the design or more pieces that didn't require as much work. The person working next to me also experienced a creativity block and was worried about the time, so I know it's not just me who may have felt uneasy. I don't think I would return only because of the distance. Otherwise, I would give it another try. I also would recommend to others. It's a nice time for friends or a couple to connect and enjoy themselves.
