I was a little bummed because there were too many people in the class, and I ended up not being able to make more thin rings. The instructor was constantly being chased around so I pretty much tried to DIY everything. In this four hour jewelry making class, I made one thick band with a polished finished and a thin band with texture and matte finish. You start off with a metal wire then you get your finger measured to get the desired length of wire. Then you start to bend the wire in a ring shape. When you get close enough you have to file down the edges and make sure they are aligned to close perfectly. The next step is the soldering process where you heat up the metal and add a filler metal to join the two ends together. After you heat up the metal you have to pickle the metal to clean off the oxidation. After pickling you need to file, polish and then clean your jewelry. As you can see it is a long and time consuming process, I have definitely realized the worth of handmade jewelry- making even one of these was time consuming and takes a lot of effort. What was difficult was that I started out with the thick band it took forever to bend the metal even with tools! Before you can apply a metal and piece them together, the opening must be filed down and match exactly otherwise your opening won't close perfectly.

Every time you go pick up your child nobody makes eye contact our tries to acknowledge you are there. The first day of class no teacher introduced herself to me, so I have no idea about who is the leader, what are their names... It's just a really weird vibe. The fact that the art classes are good is not enough reason for me to recommend this place; the teachers need some training regarding their social skills and manners. It seems as if somebody told them to ignore parents completely when they come in. Also, they should learn to smile a little. No signing up for next semester or ever again.

The way the classes are structured is extremely smart - building from fun materials that they can play with to the art projects that are related to those very same materials. The vibe in the studio is perfect - the kids are free to explore at their own pace but it still feels like a mellow, controlled environment. I also LOVE being able to expose the kids to projects where they are encouraged to get messy ... and then not have to deal with the clean up at home! It's a great place run brilliantly by Kristin -- who turns every day household objects into tools of creativity and wonder.

Great school if you want to build solid foundations of skills from the tradition of the old masters. Adult evening classes are well attended but not too crowded. Have not worked with all the teachers yet but so far I've felt really supported and nurtured, but not pampered. Really have to leave your ego at the door and come ready to work and absorb. Shout out to teacher Leo K for his patience, great skill, dry sense of humor. Varvara super as well. Heard good things about the other teachers but those mentioned were the ones I could coordinate with my work schedule. Now, the reason for this review. Bridgeview has a summer "Art Camp" in France each year and I was lucky enough to attend- 7 days of painting, touring, eating (Did I mention it is in France?) and good vibes, on the Brittany coast. I'm still high from it. School founders Lena and John acted as hosts and instructors - they've been doing it for 10 years all around France (And also Virginia USA which I may try next spring) and they know what they're doing. A completely joyful and rich experience that I have to Yelp about.. Down side, classes and trips can stress out your pocketbook. All I can say is the attention I've gotten in my artistic "journey" made it worth saving my pennies and investing in a Bridgeview education.
