Now that I'm all settled I decided to try the Intro to Sewing class ($80: supplies included) here & I am SO glad I did!! Diana Rupp, the owner was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly and open! I showed up there with absolutely no knowledge of sewing or how to work a sewing machine. But if you come with interest and an excitement to learn, you'll enjoy it. She gave us hand outs with everything we needed to know, took us through all supplies for basic sewing, taught us the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread a sewing machine. I didn't even know there was a whole process even before beginning to use one?! Lol. She went at our pace, helped us each time we made a mistake, all while having a regular conversation. None of us ever felt left behind or stressed. I was beyond excited when the class was finished. I bought some supplies from her store and even Diana's sewing book (which I highly recommend if you're dedicated). I can't wait to practice on this new hobby and make it my own! They also have tons of other classes available if you want to learn other techniques. Already eyeing the next class I'll be taking: embroidery :)) Love love loved my experience!

She goes over threading step by step and gives you some great techniques and advice to take home with you so that you can practice. The classes are very small, so if you have questions, she's available. The two hours flew by. I left the class feeling very confident in what I learned (a little too confident, telling people I can take on those mofos on Project Runway!) I can't wait to take another class.

Our instructor guided us through the process with care and attention while also really allowing room for our own personalization and hands-on creating. So often, with other companies that offer creative classes, you wind up standing and watching more than you are actually participating, and the end result doesn't feel like something you yourself made or even quite understand the process behind making. Other times, you wind up with a product that may have been fun to make, but it's not something you will ever use or display. Happy to say that this was definitely NOT the case for A Glass Act -- you get to make your creation, every step of the way, from start to finish; and the instructors are very generous with their extensive knowledge of glassworks. I look forward to taking more classes (there's so many awesome ones listed to choose from!) and would highly recommend A Glass Act to others - it's a fun and fascinating process with truly beautiful results that you'll be happy to display (in your home and on Instagram!)

We booked a Wednesday session for a portable lamp, which was $139 per person. The space is lovely with all the lamps and other projects laid out. The studio sells DIY kits online for $89 for a comparable project. So the question you should ask yourself is is it worth $50 to choose your own beads and have a small cup of tea with one bite-sized treat (which has nuts). They use these exact same kits in the studio. The kits come with video tutorials, which cover the same things the people at the studio covered. It's not like they supported us beyond explaining the steps. Also, the part that has the biggest impact on the look of your project is something you have to do at home. For $139, I would honestly prefer that the studio do it for me and I pick it up at a later date. As you can see from my pictures, my lamp does look very nice lit up. However, when it is not lit, it looks ugly. Also, I ran low on the grout mixture at home, and there was no way for me to get more of it. Overall, yes, this was a unique and fun experience. I would personally recommend doing a candle holder if you could make use of it, just because it's a smaller project. However, for $139, there needs to be better support to make it seem more like a class or professional support on the grouting so the final product turns out looking better. If you are a crafty person who is willing to splurge, then you should go for it!

She has learned so many new skills and has created such fun things this year that she proudly displays in her room (lamps, banners, wall hangings...) or uses all the time (totes, magnets, keychains...) This year when everything else seems to be on a screen, it has been a real joy for my kid to have a hands-on outlet for her creativity. Dari is welcoming, encouraging, and celebrates each kid's unique personality. She's a great teacher and the Craft Salon is a really special addition to our neighborhood. It's one of the most affordable options for wheel throwing, which has always been on my list to try, so when reservations were opening on Monday for the following week, I was ready to book. The reservations do sell out quickly as this is super popular. It's $49 for the 2 hour class They provide you with everything you need and you get to watch a quick demo and then try to throw as many pieces as you want/can in the time allotted. In the end, you are only allowed to choose one piece to fire, which will be ready for your to pick up the following week. A lot of attendees either went along or with a friend. I can definitely see this as a fun girls night or a date night activity. The wheel throwing is definitely harder than it looks and I definitely struggled before I could kind of find my groove and figure out the intricacies of the wheel and clay. Given the price and value, the teacher to student ratio was 1:20 so a bit more difficult to get some 1:1 coaching but the teacher was very attentive and walked around and helped when you shouted. The activity does get messy so they recommend you to wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. They do provide you aprons and clay does wash out but do be prepared to get clay down your arms and on your legs too. It was a fun beginner course into wheel throwing and I would love to come back to try it again. Practice does make perfect. I think they used to offer it on Monday's and Wednesday's but lately I've only seen the Monday classes.

The weather was not on our side that day--it had been raining nonstop and the trains were a mess, so our instructor was running late. Thankfully, another team member was kind enough to let the group in and get us started, which we really appreciated. The studio itself is thoughtfully set up and very organized. Each person has their own throwing wheel, and they provide everything you need to get started, including an apron and clay. The instructor walks you through the process step by step, so even if you've never touched a pottery wheel before, you can jump right in. A quick tip: wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Pottery is definitely a hands-on experience, and you will get clay everywhere. I struggled a bit with getting my piece centered, so my final creation wasn't exactly museum-worthy, but that was honestly part of the fun. There's something very satisfying about trying something completely new and learning along the way. The pieces need time to be glazed and fired in the kiln, so plan to come back about a week later for pickup. Overall, it was a fun and relaxing experience, and we're glad we finally checked out this local spot. It's a great activity for a date night, a group outing, or anyone looking to try something different.
