Great studio to learn glassblowing and develop your skills. Great staff and instructors. Not pretentious and very friendly.

Exceeded our expectations! Booked this as a surprise for my wife's birthday and she now challenges me to try and top this gift next year. We took the one day glass blowing workshop and managed to make some really cool stuff. The staff is so knowledgeable and patient. You can tell they really respect the process and value the opportunity to introduce beginners to the craft. Consider us BLOWN AWAY!

Just wrapping up a 5-hour glass blowing class. Can't say enough great things about this place. The teachers Anna and Edgar were patient and instructive. They really made you feel like you could accomplish what you wanted to. Highly recommend!

It was such a beautiful evening I just have to start from the beginning. I walked up with my friend (who had a piece in the show) and was immediately WOWed when we saw the beautifully lit large windows showcasing tons of happy, supportive, exciting people looking and talking about fiber art. Yes, I've been to galleries before but something felt really good in that space, positive vibes from the get-go. We were greeted by a lovely lady asking for donations. For $5 you got a raffle ticket and free tote bag or scarf. The raffle prizes were all at least $100, well worth a $5-$20 donation, let alone the rest of the evening which I am about unravel to you. Works ranged from gigantic detailed creatures hanging from the ceiling and spilling to the floor, gorgeous intricate embroidered illustrations, very cool sculptural/costume-like joined head piece, large scale portrait quilts, intriguing fabric films.. everything I saw was a FEAST for the eyes, and completely different, yet connected. Cutting edge indeed. I was super impressed and got to meet many of the artists there that night, including Joetta. Although it was crowed (which is SO great for a gallery opening!) the atmosphere was completely positive. The live brass band added a bouncy background to conversation, and later an impromptu dance party/congo. There was lots of delicious savory finger food and darling 'textile arts center' cupcakes. Plenty of complimentary wine and cold craft beers. Bathrooms were spotless, well lit, brightly colored and stocked with essentials. One of the more inspiring NY events I've been to. The current exhibition is up Sept 17 - Oct 11, even without the party it's absolutely worth checking out. The facilities are gorgeous, and class listings are on their website.

Our class was a random assortment of ladies of different personalities (how PC is that ;), but Natalie was very attentive and always sweet. She shared all her tips and techniques and helped guide us to create some unique creations. Of course, none of our work really looked as good as Natalie's, but maybe in time. :-/ The intensives also come with a week of free studio time, but it's really quite a schlep, so I didn't get to take advantage of it. Nice little bonus though!

Now that I'm all settled I decided to try the Intro to Sewing class ($80: supplies included) here & I am SO glad I did!! Diana Rupp, the owner was absolutely amazing. She was so friendly and open! I showed up there with absolutely no knowledge of sewing or how to work a sewing machine. But if you come with interest and an excitement to learn, you'll enjoy it. She gave us hand outs with everything we needed to know, took us through all supplies for basic sewing, taught us the parts of the sewing machine and how to thread a sewing machine. I didn't even know there was a whole process even before beginning to use one?! Lol. She went at our pace, helped us each time we made a mistake, all while having a regular conversation. None of us ever felt left behind or stressed. I was beyond excited when the class was finished. I bought some supplies from her store and even Diana's sewing book (which I highly recommend if you're dedicated). I can't wait to practice on this new hobby and make it my own! They also have tons of other classes available if you want to learn other techniques. Already eyeing the next class I'll be taking: embroidery :)) Love love loved my experience!

If you're like me and had zero to no experience with sewing, this is the perfect class for you. She goes over threading step by step and gives you some great techniques and advice to take home with you so that you can practice. The classes are very small, so if you have questions, she's available. The two hours flew by. I left the class feeling very confident in what I learned (a little too confident, telling people I can take on those mofos on Project Runway!) I can't wait to take another class.

" I am a parent of three children who have studied musical theater through Brooklyn Players, in both the summer and school year (after school) programs. Brooklyn Players is fantastic, and my kids have gained tremendously from attending. I am impressed with the way they have developed my children's skills to such a high level in a program which is truly fun and nurturing, and where teamwork aspects of theater are strongly emphasized. I have never before seen a performing program (for music or theater) where there is such a relaxed feeling but such amazingly professional results. I have one child who just started college but attended Brooklyn Summer Players every year from age 9 to 13, and I have one much younger child who recently completed his first year in the 4 week summer program. I find the staff very talented, and it has been fun to watch the kids grow and develop in the program. When my now college-age son applied to high school, he was admitted to some very selective programs (like the very small, highly esteemed theater program at Edward Murrow high school). It has been fun and impressive to see the Brooklyn Players graduates continue their successful efforts to perform in school and outside of school as well. Many students from Brooklyn Players end up with leading roles in high school productions, whether or not they choose to attend selective arts programs for high school. I am glad my sons learned so much from Brooklyn Players, but I think it is equally valuable that the program was really fun for them too. I am delighted my youngest is still in Brooklyn Players and continuing to enjoy and learn from it as his older brothers did. I highly recommend the summer program as well as the school year classes. We are fortunate to have such a great program in Park Slope.

Her summer experience…read moretwo years ago ignited a love for musical theatre that she has been pursuing ever since through voice and acting classes with Brooklyn Players. The after-school classes are the perfect size; each student gets a lot of individual attention. The caliber of students is very high, yet there is an atmosphere of mutual support instead of competitiveness. When my daughter began voice classes with Corinne, she was not so confident in her abilities. I am almost more pleased with her increased confidence than I am with her technical skill, but she has Brooklyn Players to thank for both at this point. Sadly, we are leaving the area, so she can't do the summer show this year, but she has been accepted into a very selective summer theatre program in the area we are moving to. We have been so fortunate to have this amazing resource right here in the neighborhood; Brooklyn Players is a great choice for any kid with an interest in performing.
