Menu hardly changes which is not a bad thing since they do what they offer very well. Haven't had a bad meal here after more than 15-20 years and is my go-to place for celebratory dinners or a comfortable gathering spot with friends. Visited Scalini Fedeli on a Tuesday night after a break of years. We are fortunate to have one of the sister restaurants, Locanda Vecchia, only about a mile from our house so hadn't gone to Chatham in some time. We'll be back sooner. It was such a lovely, gracious meal. The food is excellent but if you know the chef or eat at any of his restaurants that isn't a surprise. What is so nice is that it is restaurant dining the way it used to be - when going out to dinner was an event. The service is always warm and friendly, the environment calm and quiet enough that you can actually have a conversation with the people you are dining with without having to lean in close to their ear. You are never rushed and each course comes out with enough of a break that you are happy to see the food but never feel like you waited too long. I had the veal saltimbucca - a favorite, and a pasta special I can't remember the name of but made me pause just to savor. It is nice to get portions that make you feel like the expense is worth it. First time in NJ and had to have Italian. Locals recommended this charming establishment. Food was delicious and the experience was exceptional. The ambiance, service and food were excellent. You have to be a fan however of a pre fixe menu, so if u love an appetizer you can't make that your entree. We were also rushed through the meal. The dishes came to the table way too soon and we were finished in a little over an hour. Considering the price and lovely ambiance it's the kind of restaurant where you might enjoy a more relaxed evening. Told we must order our desserts at the same time we ordered our first courses was a good indication that we were on an assembly line. Tho restrooms were upstairs, there is one downstairs if u have mobility issues. Scalini Fedeli has always been my favorite restaurant! I usually go to the one in NY, but we decided to try this location out because it's actually a lot closer to where we live now. The Chatham location was actually opened before the Tribeca location, so that makes this the original Scalini Fedeli. Everything here is absolute perfection. When you walk in the decor is REALLY nice and the chairs are so comfortable. They have high ceilings and the tables are spread out enough that you can enjoy your private conversations. You definitely have to dress up to come here... most men were in blazers and the woman mostly in dresses. I did see some guys in polos, but jeans or sneakers are definitely a no-no here. The price is unbeatable. For $59 you get a 5 course meal where you get to choose your appetizer, main course, and dessert. They menu changes every few months and they have some substitutes you can choose for an additional fee or $8 to $15. I've not once had a meal that was less than breathtaking here. They have a really impressive wine list here...you can easily find something for everyone. The bottles are also very reasonably priced. This trip was the first time we tried actual cocktails, but they tasted like they didn't really have much alcohol, therefore were reverting back to wine only the next time we come. If you enjoy fresh pasta and authentic Italian food, the make a reservation and try this place out for yourself! An overall great lunch experience. The menu has a diverse option of Italian dishes, and our choices were great. We have been to the NYC location and the service and food quality here is the same. I though it would be on the pricier side but was surprised to see that it was not, great cost benefit. We would definitely come back for lunch. Fine dining at its best. I've been here a couple times over the years to celebrate special occasions, and must say I have never been disappointed! The menu is varied and everything is delicious. Was here this past mother's day and I got the risotto appetizer. I would recommend this to anyone- it was fantastic! Had not been in years but went back tonight. The food quality is really excellent. The service was definitely subpar. Felt like I was being rushed at every minute and they whisked my wine glass away and I wasn't even finished with my wine. We had a later seating, but they shouldn't stay open if they aren't going to service properly. It's a tasting menu so you do need time to eat all the rich food. I would recommend it, but definitely the service needs improvement. Just be more attentive and stop rushing customers! read more

Great food! Between my wife and I, we had 6 different dishes and they were all delicious (see details below). The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I went 2 courses without seeing my server to ask for another glass of wine. I'm sure I could have flagged someone else down or asked the very attentive bussers and runners but i think the server should have checked in with us a little sooner. The dishes we enjoyed were: The shrimp starter that comes with every meal. This dish had some sort of mustardy truffle suace was something I would have eaten by itself with a spoon. The Ecuadorian shrimp came with honeydew prosciutto and buffalo that was savory, sweet, and salty in the best way. The short rib entree, mushroom risotto appetizer, and chocolate soufflé tasted as good as you'd expect. I'm not discounting the quality of the dishes. Just stating that they tasted like a good version of those familiar favorites. Nothing overly unique to mention. The duck dish was the winner. I'm not even a fan of duck but this entree was so tasty! I would recommend this restaurant but if it's a humid night, you may want to wear pants. The lighting for the outdoor patio is nice but the bulbs are pretty low and attract bugs (especially if you're sitting in the center of the patio like I was). This is a situation that many NJ restaurants are dealing with right now and is mostly out of their control. We'll be back. read more

Our dinner at Scalini was as wonderful as our previous visits. I love a restaurant that is consistent in it's food and service. Scalini delivers at each level and offers an elegant/warm atmosphere. Their prefix menu is filled with wonderful choices- making it hard to choose. Appetizers: Burrata Soft Egg Yolk Raviolo -filled with spinach and ricotta topped with parmigiano and melted truffle butter Potato crusted snapper over sautéed wild mushrooms in a red wine (barbaresco) reduction and roasted beets Organic breast of chicken with Italian sausage served over broccoli di rapa and ricotta gnocchi in a rosemary and garlic sauce All the dishes were delicious. I really thought that my meal was worth it, and that it wasn't that expensive for all that you get. Even the supplemental items seemed worth it, but I did stick to the basic 3 courses. I loved everything that I chose and I would go back in a heartbeat. My pasta was perfectly done and everything was flavorful. Loved the petit fours at the end in addition to the dessert. We came here for lunch one afternoon. The service was nice. The menu is rather limited. We liked one entree but the other was much too salty. What shocked us though was the dated decor, the worn furniture and sad carpets... this restaurant was recommended to us as fine dining but it seems past its prime, and badly in need of a facelift. Maybe the afternoon daylight showed these flaws glaringly but may seem muted at night with the artificial lights. I would not really want to return. Nor actually recommend it. read more

This time appetizers were mushroom ravioli, mushroom risotto, pasta special with peas and prosciutto, as well as pasta with crab and pepperocini. All were ample portions and delicious! I came here with a group of 9 guests, and overall, I enjoyed my experience. The server was attentive, the food arrived in a timely manner, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant. For a restaurant with 4 dollar signs, however, I would have expected the food to be excellent, and I was a little let down. As a starter, I ordered the penne pasta with sausage. It was a pretty basic pasta with red sauce, sausages, and mushrooms. The flavor wasn't too strong or too bland, and there were herbs garnishing the pasta. For the entree, I ordered the duck, medium-rare. The duck itself was cooked well and was very tender. However, the reduction sauce was too sweet for my taste; the dish almost tasted like a dessert rather than a main entree. Because of this, I ended up not finishing my dish because the sauce was just too strong and overpowered the natural flavor of the duck. I mostly ate the pieces that weren't slathered in sauce, and I actually had to use the mashed potatoes to cleanse my palette. That reminds me, the mashed potatoes were delicious! Never have I ever had such smooth mashed potatoes that were almost fluffy (not heavy) in texture. One additional note: our server was very attentive, but I found that he was constantly interjecting right in the middle of someone talking. I came to Scalini as part of a welcome dinner for work, so people at our table were trying to get to know one another. Throughout the night, when he took our orders, refilled our drinks, asked if we were still doing okay, it was ALWAYS in the middle of someone's story. In my experience, high-end restaurants tend to be more tactful about when they interject to ask if we need anything, waiting for a lull in the conversation or at least for when someone has just finished talking, instead of when someone is actively speaking in a conversation. If I'm ever back in New Jersey, I would like to give Scalini another chance, but I was just not that impressed this time around. read more

Came here for Valentine's Day and it was so cute!! It's definitely a very cozy environment and the decoration was perfect for the occasion. For the holiday, they had a prefixed menu and it was essential 5 dishes. Starter 1- smoked salmon with creme fraiche: so good!! Very light and great starter Starter 2- seared shrimp in sherry wine sauce: the sauce was great but the shrimp was definitely over cooked, still not too bad though Appetizer- risotto with mushrooms and petit peas: really delicious!! Nice and light as well but still had a lot of flavors Entree- thinly sliced breast of duck: SO good!! It has a sweet sauce and it tastes so good with the mashed potatoes and veggies that comes with it! Trio of desserts- my favorite was the strawberry and raspberry one! I wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars, really did! While the food was very good, the service did not live up to expectations...at least not for fine dining. From the moment we sat down we felt very rushed with the server coming over a few minutes after we ordered our drink to ask if we are ready to place our order. When we were eating the server came by a coupe of times to ask if we were finished, although the plates were pretty full. Lastly, when we were finishing up desert, the server came by yet again and this time says "we need the table". Never in my experience have I had this happen, and especially would not expect it from a place that is considered to be a fine dining experience. Although we enjoyed the food, unfortunately we will not be going back. The service is as good as being at a diner. read more

The restaurant has an old world charm vibe that just works. Very red, but super cozy. They only offer the 4course priz-fixe menu so be prepared in advance. This is another local restaurant that I'm shocked I never wrote a review about. 1st, the history. George Washington ACTUALLY slept in the building 7 times in the early 1780's when he would commute from NYC to his headquarters in Morristown (Pre NJ Transit). It was here where he penned letters requesting that bread ovens be built in Chatham to bake 3,000 loves of bread a day for thousands of soldiers. The letters were intentionally leaked to the British in NYC giving them the notion that he was going to attack New York . It was however just a ruse as he headed south to Virginia with his troops, and attacked. This building is quite literally where the end of the revolution began! OK, that aside, this restaurant was voted as the most romantic restaurant in New Jersey by NJ Monthly. Aesthetics aside, the food here is simply amazing, the best I feel in Morris and it's surrounding counties. Go here. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary here a few days ago. It was great to have a night out, even on a Wednesday, just by ourselves. We haven't been to Scalini Fedeli in many years because we moved away from the area. Now that we're back, it was amazing to find that it's still as amazing as we remembered. The service is impeccable, particularly from Andreas! He's a world-class professional. We had the soft egg yolk ravioli and it was just out of this world. I had the breaded pork chop and my wife had the short ribs. We had the beet salad as well. Everything was perfect. The sorbet that was served after our entrée , the bread and onion on the table when we were seated, the complimentary shrimp appetizer. The cookies that are presented with dessert. This restaurant is absolutely top notch. And, again, their service professionals are one in a million. Particularly our server, Andreas. Dine here often, you won't be disappointed. read more
