DO NOT RENT FROM SC REALTY OR FRANCES LAU!!! I rented a unit at 1519 Thurston Avenue for two years, and my experience was nothing short of a nightmare. From the very first walkthrough, I suspected there was mold in the closets. I immediately brought it to the attention of the agent, Frances Lau, who insisted there was no mold present. Despite my concerns, on the initial inspection sheet, we noted a mold-like substance in both closets. As time went on, my family and I began experiencing health issues, and we spent thousands of dollars at doctors' offices and even took our dog to the vet, trying to figure out what was going wrong. We then experienced a massive leak in the apartment, which led to the ceiling being cut open and, to our shock, revealed large amounts of mold that had been hidden behind the drywall. Despite this alarming discovery, Frances Lau and SC Realty refused to take our concerns seriously. We requested that the unit be tested for mold multiple times (five times to be exact), but each time we were ignored. After no response, we paid out of pocket for a full mold inspection, and the results were horrifying--every single room tested positive for high levels of black mold. At this point, my family was already feeling the health effects of prolonged exposure to toxic mold. To protect our health, we made the decision to move out as soon as possible. However, even after we left, Frances continued to ignore our attempts to reach her. We had to escalate the issue to her boss at SC Realty, but we were still met with indifference. SC Realty then forced us to sign away any legal claims in exchange for allowing us to break the lease early without them keeping our security deposit, even though they had previously threatened to withhold it. It's clear to me that SC Realty is well aware they are renting out unsafe, uninhabitable units. To make matters worse, they raised the rent by $250 and began showing the unit to new potential tenants less than a month after we moved out. If you value the health and safety of your family, I urge you not to rent from SC Realty. This company knowingly rents out mold-infested units and will do everything in their power to avoid taking responsibility. Frances Lau, in particular, was the worst agent I've ever encountered. After speaking with other agents at SC Realty, I can confidently say I have nothing positive to say about this company. They are dishonest, negligent, and completely unconcerned with tenant safety. The sad reality is that the State of Hawaii does little to protect renters in situations like this, leaving companies like SC Realty to continue engaging in this behavior unchecked. I have documentation and test results that prove the apartment was infested with black mold. Please, do your due diligence and avoid this company at all costs. read more

If you ever need a property manager, contact Bryan Walker. He is the most helpful, reliable person that you can really depend and count on. Best service, highly recommended. Once, a different company broke my flood lights, and he was so kind to offer to help replace it even though it was outside of his obligations via his contracted services. Never met her but she seems very friendly and enthusiastic when talking to her. All rental forms are complete and book keeping is on line so I can view what information(s) I want. I use SC Realty as a tenant, they provide a portal as one of their real estate services. Unfortunately the messages you leave regarding plumbing problems or a question about your sudden change in rent go only to the particular agent in charge of that listing. I've waited 2 months to get a call back from SC Realty about a problem with the Resident Manager in my building verbally harassing me. Apparently it's not important if it isn't $$ related. UPDATE: I've left 5 messages in 2 months. The office is closed so no one is assigned to checking messages. Thank goodness it wasn't urgent? My agent: Hedi Barrett. I can't recommend her. read more

Diane Choi of SC Realty is property manager of rental units at my location. She has been non responsive to tenant issues and does not even reply back. You would expect someone representing the owner and this company to provide good customer service but that is non existent. There has been numerous times of reaching out to get issues resolved with our unit and there has been no response. In the long run she is costing the owner more money as items damaged are getting worse and will be of greater cost to owner. Would not recommend this company if this is the type of work their people provide. read more

Kendall has always been a honest guy very truthful and will never be afraid to tell you like it is. I've always liked his honesty and his straight forward attitude, he has always been a guy that I could count on, he has great policy's and his "just show up attitude" is something I always refer to till today. We applied for a rental and then were told that the insurance wouldn't cover the number of occupants we had (3 occupants in a 2 bedroom rental). It is extremely frustrating as I just moved to the island and am trying to find a place for my family. Why did they take my application fee if they knew (or should have known) that we weren't going to be able to live in the rental? I am extremely disappointed. I cannot say enough good things about my property manager, Hedi Barrett. When my former pm company was let go by the owner, Hedi came on board and really got things done! Everything the former pm company couldn't be bothered with, important things too, like a new refrigerator, mold removal, small roof leak, 30 foot high papaya tree...Hedi got it done in less than two months! Hedi is wonderful! Hedi has understanding and compassion, she is a hard worker and returns calls/texts promptly. Anyone would be lucky to have her as their property manager! She's awesome! read more

From day one of renting a house through this company it has been a very frustrating experience. From the day we came to look at the house and trying to set up an appointment they kept beating around the bush and canceling appointments to view the house. Once we viewed the house he was pushy to make us leave and could not answer any of our questions. Eventually after signing the lease on the house and they would never answer calls or emails. We had to contact the owner directly if anything was wrong. The owner finally decided to drop the management company so now we rent directly through the owner and we removed our payment method well before rent would be taking out again and the management company somehow still got our money for rent even though we aren't renting from them anymore. It has now been a month since they incorrectly took our payment and we still haven't received our money back which it $4500!!! This company is the worst property management company I have ever rented from and would rate them negative 5 stars if I could. read more

This is the worst property management experience imaginable. Where do I begin? When I selected SC realty and setup an initial meeting with Kendall Fukumoto I got the warm and fuzzy that I would be in good hands in terms of securing a tenant and moving forward. After signing with them, all of my showings and paperwork was handled by a new property manager who just started. I must say that he tried his hardest. I was asked if I would entertain a section 8 tenant in my home and my reply was yes depending on the applicant. To sum things up they secured a tenant without receiving a security deposit, move in dates in the lease was wrong (no attention to detail), didn't know how they were going to secure the monthly payments moving foremyself had to act as the property manager because SC Realty, most notably Kendall either failed to due his due diligence or didn't care. Either way we parted ways due to horrible service. If you don't believe me go ahead and give them a shot. This is just my story. read more
