This place did not disappoint!! We stopped in for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon and it was moderately busy. Thankfully we read some Yelp reviews in advance so we knew which door to enter through (the one facing the movie theater NOT the parking lot). It was pretty uncomfortable when we walked in because there was no one at the host stand and no sign like "wait to be seated" "seat yourself" or just plain, "stand here awkwardly until we acknowledge you". A server finally came running up and took us to her section. Noticing that things seemed slow and I'm pregnant needing food fast, I order the hanger steak quesadilla immediately. The amount of reviews mentioning that pate, I knew it was a must! People did not lie, that was such a good quesadilla!! I've been craving it since! We also ordered nachos with carne asada and chicken and veggie fajitas. The nachos were huge and also delicious. Had the same steak that was in the quesadilla which was just so tender and good!! The fajitas... I wouldn't order again. While it was good, I can't believe we paid $25 (a dollar over the menu price for some reason) for one chicken breast and a small portion of veggies. It came with 4 tiny tortillas which definitely weren't enough and the server brought over the guacamole, sour cream and other things when we were already half way through so we felt pretty cheated there. The atmosphere was a bit strange. Really quiet place, every was a bit too busy to notice you, and a manager floating around not acknowledging anyone. We started off with the salsa flight. The bowls were a little small as some have mentioned, but the waiter said he could bring us more. The Bebe Rellenos were fantastic. One if the jalapeños had a bit too much heat, a bit overbearing. The Rellena Veracruz did not disappoint in flavor or presentation. The Vampiro Taco and Grilled Chicken were full of meat, making it well worth the price. The Sweet Corn Tamal was not overly sweet and had a couple of different flavors to enjoy. This little strip of (mostly) restaurants is in a precarious location. The "front" entrance faces the closed theater. The back entrance is by the restrooms. The waiter was fantastic (except he would not divulge some of the ingredients in one of the salsas that we kept coming back to). Rio Grande might have a little competition on their hands, but they are one of the few restaurants that are still in the same place since at least 2005. read more

Met a friend here for lunch. We got the salsa flight which was just enough chips and 3 salsas for two. All the salsas were good, though they had a pico de gallo type mix that was a little too finely chopped / crushed. I got the red chicken enchiladas with refried black beans and rice. The beans were a little too thick for my preference. There were two different salsas on my plate and four rolled chicken enchiladas. My only complaint was that the chicken inside the enchiladas was very plain tasting. I didn't open one up but it seemed there was no onion, garlic, or spices applied to the shredded chicken. It wasn't dry per say, just sort of dully flavored. Pretty good overall. read more

My wife and I did a date night here and was throughly impressed with the overall experience. The service was excellent and very attentive from start to finish and the vibe was chill. We tried the Mexican corn, enchiladas, and Molcajete (sp??) Surf and Turf, it was plenty of food and very delicious. We enjoyed the meal with a glass of the house Malbec, which was great, especially for $6! The location isn't one we'd normally stumble upon, but we will definitely go back. read more

Oh, WOW!! We came here for dinner based on pix and reviews, and proximity to the house was a plus, too. ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY!! The flavors in this food are amazing! We had the hangar steak quesadilla to start, and the queso fundido. The steak was flavorful, the tortilla was griddled, and the cheese was kind of minimal, but the sauce drizzled on top took it to another level. The queso fundido arrived bubbling hot, accompanied by warm corn tortillas and an incredibly yummy smoky sauce. It's not a giant portion, but so rich and cheesy and yummy, it's the perfect size. BF had the divorciadas enchiladas. He couldn't stop raving about them! He says they're the best he's ever had, bar none. He also loved the rice and refried black beans. The vampiro taco was incredible, and the pastor taco was the best either of us has EVER had. I ordered the grilled chicken and the chicken tinga, but had to take them home, because I was stuffed after I finished my pastor taco. I had a side order of the refried black beans. They're smooth, puréed, and REALLY good! I generally avoid rice and beans, because calories. I would rather have cheese :) BF was surprised to see chocolate tres leches. It, too, was delicious, with a hint of Mexican cocoa, perhaps. Sazon doesn't have its liquor license yet, so we had watermelon agua fresca. YUM!! John, who makes the agua frescas, was kind enough to give us some cucumber lime agua fresca to try. Ohhhh, it's delicious! The flavors rotate. Other flavors include strawberry guava and cantaloupe. There are two flavors available at a time. Service and atmosphere are wonderful! Gerardo was friendly, extremely competent, and completely on the ball. Lisha, the owner, introduced herself and checked on us a couple of times. Truly a lovely woman. And John, the manager, stopped by and told us a little about their concept. We LOVE this place! It's Mexican food with Caribbean influences, plus a little Central American. You don't get chips and salsa when you sit down. We didn't miss them at all. The food is full of flavor, rather than heat. There are MANY gluten-free options! Dairy-free, too. My only suggestion would be to perhaps turn the lights down a bit at night. It's very bright. But that's not a biggie. Me and The Hubs went to Sazon for a date night two or three months ago on a mid-week night. They were doing a brisk business for a (maybe) Tuesday night in March or April. We had made a reservation, which I was glad of. Anyway, once we were seated we perused the menu. Their menu is really nice with items you don't see everywhere. Once our server arrived, we ordered two skinny margaritas and the queso for an app while we decided on what we wanted for dinner. The queso was amazing! I don't usually want to order it because at most places it's mediocre at best. This was REALLY good. It's too much for two people (IMO) so we did end up taking some home. Our skinnies were WAY too sweet. I don't know if they're always that way, but if we come here again, I might ask them to go heavier on the lime juice. I don't remember what The Hubs ordered for an entree, but I decided on the steak fajitas. I don't usually order fajitas since we grill a lot of stuff like this at home, but a lot of their other dishes sounded too spicy for me and I really didn't feel like customizing my dinner that night (tired of The Hubs eye rolls...). The next time I'll see what can be dumbed down for me. So the food come out and it looks great. Whatever The Hubs ordered, he enjoyed. I thought my fajitas were really really over salted. In hindsight, maybe they just seemed that way because the margs were too sweet? Not sure. But I mentioned it to our server (so the owner wouldn't say 'why didn't you say something while you were here' after seeing my review). And I specifically said that I was just commenting and didn't want anything, but they comp-d my dinner anyway. The problem for me was that, by this time, it was so late that ordering another entree wasn't in the cards (not saying that they wouldn't have made one, but it was after 8:30 and we were ready to go home). So, salty entree. Too sweet marg. Onto the other: Our server was friendly. The restaurant itself could use some changes/updates? The entrance to the restaurant is on the parking lot side. That makes sense - except that the building itself seems to be oriented to the courtyard side. This wouldn't necessarily be an issue except that the restrooms are right inside the entry door. The Hubs mentioned to me something about a heavy cleanser odor after coming in the front (back?) door. After he mentioned it (while we were standing there waiting for our table), it seemed to me like they were trying to cover up a sewer smell. Might want to rethink having people come in through that door and have to wait there. (Maybe a partial wall, screen - something.) The other thing that bugged me, was that there seems to be a storage area on a second level above the entry. This is visible from the tables closer to the courtyard side. Maybe putting up a partial wall or screen to block all that stuff from view might be possible. When I go out to eat, it's not just the food - it's the service and ambiance. This place has potential but they're not quite there yet. Went for a birthday dinner with a group of 10. The host stand is on the movie theater side of the restaurant. A little odd to enter from the parking lot and walk to the other side of the restaurant. We were seated pretty quickly. The best part of the night was the food. The Queso Fundido had a great smoky flavor. The Baja enchiladas had good lobster and crab chunks and a great sauce. The rice was incredible. Not sure what was in it but it tasted like there were 100 calories of great flavor in every bite! The plantains were prepared perfectly and the flavor was incredible. The opportunity areas were the drinks and service. The drinks took around 45 minutes to arrive. I got Mi Querido Margarita. The citrus flavor was too strong and it overpowered the tequila. Our waitress, while friendly and positive, seemed to be serving at least two big tables and service was slow. We waited nearly 45 minutes for drinks and also waited a long time to order entrees. As they build their rhythm In hopeful the kinks will be worked out. The food was great and I look forward to enjoying another meal at Sazon. read more

I've been coming to Sazon for years. I usually get the hanger fajitas. They're the best fajitas I've ever had. I came in today with every intention of getting my fajitas, but the waiter suggested I try the Carne Asada with the sweet corn Tamale and papas brava. I almost said no and went with my usual, but something about how confident he was made me go for the Carne Asada. Let me tell you, he was 100% right! This dish is an absolute masterpiece. Visually, the dish speaks for itself, this isn't some fly by night mom n' pop from a can affair, this is a mindful and practiced work of actual talent. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and popped with gorgeous spice notes mixed with lime and the umami of the steak. The papas brava could stand on their own as a dish. It was rich and flavorful, potatoes were crisp and expertly seasoned. As stunning as the previously mentioned components of this dish are, the real surprise of the dish for me was the sweet corn Tamale. What a genius addition to an already great plate. Sweet and creamy wonderfully soft and vivid texture that stood on its own as a culinary delight. Yet, its mild sweetness lent itself to a wonderful interplay with the rest of the dish and took the entire plate to a new level. You don't get this level of creativity by accident, this is the work of an ASTOUNDING talent in the kitchen, no doubt about it. Sazon's Carne Asada is, without a doubt, the best Latin/mexican dish I have ever had in my life. This restaurant is sophisticated, clean, and incredibly talented. And bluntly WAY underrated. The staff is friendly and attentive, even hilarious and memorable! Make some time and treat yourself, it is well worth it and your patronage is well deserved by this establishment. They did it again. Truly a fantastic meal. Note to readers. Don't go on Cinco de Mayo. Of course it was crowded and the servers were stretched thin but they conquered nonetheless. I have been to Sazon a few times now and I am so glad I found it. I eat gluten free so I was glad to see all the gluten free items marked GF, which makes it so much easier to eat at a restaurant when you have an allergy to gluten. Each time I have gotten the nachos with carne asada. I really like how they layer the toppings throughout the nachos instead of just putting everything on top. The queso is delicious, and the carne asada is cooked just right. My husband gets the tacos, and it's great that you can order them individually. The drinks are always on point as well - I tried the watermelon mojito this time and it was delicious! Very refreshing and a great combination of flavors. The wait staff is always nice and friendly as well, and service is typically really quick! 10/10 will be returning many more times here :) read more

First time I've ever heard of a lobster taco and IT'S UNBELIEVABLE! Now, I just learned that they have $2 Taco-Tuesdays. Although the lobster wasn't a part of that (any of the seafood items), it was so worth it. Our team works across the street, so we're down to come every Tuesday. I'd request that the sense of urgency with the server was to be a bit more efficient, for work lunches are strict timing when it comes for us to go back to complete our meetings. The food is very tasty and very fresh. My friends and I tried a large variety of things and were impressed with everything. I think the decor is very attractive. The service is the reason for one less star. They often got our order wrong (light beer instead of dark, for example) but quickly rectified it when it was pointed out. A lot of food was missing and we would have to remind our waiter. He grabbed it quickly and it would be the wrong style of rice, but we'd eat it anyway because we couldn't find him again for a while and it was still very tasty. There was one server/waiter who brought the food but didn't take orders. When I mentioned that the plate he was handing me was missing some sides for my dish, he curtly said "Sounds like something you should mention to your server." I totally understand that it was not his fault. I know what it's like to work with coworkers who don't do their jobs well and then you get the complaints. I didn't expect him to do something if it was not in his job description, but he could have worded it as "Sorry. Please, tell your waiter." read more

This was my second visit to this restaurant, I was just as impressed the second time as my first visit. I ordered queso fundido, Carnitas and shrimp fajitas. The food was incredible, and the Carnitas are probably the best I've ever had. Each entrée is served with fried plantains, which are amazing. The service was outstanding and the tortillas were extremely hot and fresh. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant, the food is more fresh and upscale. I highly recommend Sazon. read more

Ok, these guys are getting there. Our first experience was when they were brand new and they were working out the kinks. The service was much better this time. I also appreciated the hostess checking in us at the end, we were finished and waiting for our check and she noticed us looking around and asked if we'd been helped. The food is consistently delicious. I had the tellers veracruz- this is so good, the flavors of the chorizo , bacon and cheese is awesome. I would love to get more shrimp and veggies. By the end I was eating a big chunk of bacon, cheese and chorizo. My husband got the divirciadas which were great. Keep working guys!! You're almost there. I really want Saxon to succeed. They have the nicest staff!! I really would like to see them offer a happy hour to draw people in. They don't have the best location and the Mexican food place two doors down and the bar both offer happy hours. Offer some inexpensive drinks and please don't charge for chips and salsa and I believe this will create more of an experience and draw people in. I also think if they do some more marketing it would be helpful. None of my friends have heard of them. I will return soon! read more

I called over the phone about taco Tuesday special. The lady who answered politely told me they only offer that for dine in, not to go. No worries there. However, she also said that I'm able to order the tacos and ask for "to go" boxes and I can box them up myself. So I drove there and when I arrived that was not the case. The greeter was confused what I was talking about and asked me to talk to a guy who I'm assuming is the supervisor or something. He was not friendly, at all. Simply said something like, "we don't offer the $2 tacos because it costs is too much money for the boxes and utensils, etc." I told him I spoke to someone on the phone about ordering then asking for a normal to go box and he said he doesn't know who said that. I get the reasoning behind it, but it's very frustrating to drive here and be told a different story upon arrival. Also, it's not what was said as much as how he said it. The owner waited on us herself which made things love a little slower but.....the food! OMG THE FOOD!! Everything was so fresh! From the drinks to the appetizers, and the entrees. We had a variety to drinks, Paloma's, Cadillac margaritas, micheladas! Appetizers were mocajete quezon, tableside guacamole, salsa flights. We had a variety of entrees as well.
