Mothers Day. The service at Sazon was honestly horrible from start to finish. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for almost everything, and the staff seemed completely inattentive and disorganized the entire visit. It felt like customers were more of an inconvenience than welcomed guests. Trying to get simple things like drinks (we never got to order refills), check-ins, or updates on food took way too long, and communication from the staff was poor throughout the experience. Even when issues were brought up, there was urgency and concern but then forgotten the moment they walked away from the table. What made the experience even worse was that by the end of the meal, the service had become so bad that we were literally trying to pay just so we could leave, and even the manager could not seem to bring themselves to come process the payment in a timely manner. We sat there waiting just to give them our money and leave. Finally a different manager told us we can just leave no need to pay. Unfortunately, the bad service completely overshadowed the meal and made the overall experience frustrating enough that we would not return. This was our second time giving them a chance to make it up bc the first time wasnt any better :( read more

Cool venue! Much deeper and bigger inside than you'd expect from the outside. The bar is really well placed and makes the whole place feel social and lively without being crowded. Had a fine time at Sazon for dinner the other evening, got to taste a number of excellent appetizers and entrees after first having a very well made house margarita. The dining atmosphere was very comfortable with tons of parking out front. We were impressed with all the delicious and specially prepared sauces complete with homemade tortilla chips and incredible salsas. The tastes here are different from many other Mexican restaurants in the city and this is attributed to the folks who not only prepare the dishes but to the owner, Lisha and her staff who are involved basically from the farm to the table. read more

We visited Sason on a we thought was going to be normal Thursday night. We were completely wrong. The restaurant was very busy. I believe there must've been a large party being served that night. That took a lot of the attention of the minimal staff supporting the restaurant. The restaurant is modernly decorated with some interesting light fixtures and a small outdoor patio seating area. The restaurant is ample with lots of seating options. Upon walking in, we did not have a host or hostess to greet us, so we waited patiently by the hostess stand. After a few minutes, a waiter came by and said someone would be with us shortly. A few more minutes, what I suspect is likely the restaurant manager found us a seat and had us seated. However, we didn't see a waiter for probably to five or 10 minutes. We did have one waiter walk by us a few times, but he never interacted with our table and was not assigned to our section. We did, however, have someone come by from the management staff and drop off some water while we waited. It probably took another 10 to 15 minutes before we would see a waiter who would take our drink and food order. Our drinks came out in a pretty reasonable amount of time however, our food did take quite some time. The manager came over and apologized for the long delay. At this point we probably been at the restaurant around an hour. She offered us free chips and salsa, which was nice. We ordered three entrées and an appetizer. We ordered the empanadas as the appetizer, and for our entrees we ordered steak fajitas, Carne Asada plate and a giant burrito. The chips and salsa came out and they were interesting, their chips were a few street taco sized tortillas that had been deep-fried flat so it was a giant circle. The sauces were pretty good. Our appetizer came out and it was not my favorite. The masa used for the empanada was crunchy on the outside but completely raw on the inside. It made for an unappetizing, texture and flavor. There were no complaints about the fajitas or the Carne Asada, except that the Carne Asada was a little bit overcooked and hard to cut. The burrito that came out was very large and good. Overall, the experience is not one we would repeat, but there's no way we could've known that the service would be so slow. We know that the staff was working as hard as they can. Unfortunately, it looks like they might need to have more stuff on hand to better support busy nights. read more

I went here last night for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. We split the elote appetizer. The corn wasn't sweet enough. Aside from that, I've still had better. I'd give it a 3. I ordered the Rellena Veracruz for dinner. The presentation was amazing being served in half a pineapple. The taste was pretty good, but not quite a home run. I'd give it a 4. I ordered horchata, but the waiter came back and said the kitchen staff spilled it, so I couldn't have any. Anyway, I'd give this place another try in the future. read more

The chicken in the Mayan chicken dish was also tough, hard to cut with a knife. Very little flavor. The formerly fabulous sweet corn tamale was devoid of taste. It was astonishing to experience this since our many past visits at Sazon were so good. One for the books! I'm a Colorado native, I've been to a LOT of Mexican restaurants and I think I may have found my new favorite. Some colleagues and I came here for lunch today and everyone was absolutely blown away by the food. I liked it so much and our server Reuben was so incredible that I actually returned for dinner with my wife this evening. The restaurant is beautiful and music is present but quiet enough for conversation. The food was absolutely insane. I had opportunities to try a few of my colleagues food and there were some standouts: The Sazon Margarita was delicious and spicy, while my wife had the Mi Querida "my darling" margarita super tasty. For appetizers: we tried both the Molcajete queso and table side guac, both were served with fresh fried tortillas you could break into chips. Just delicious!!! For dinner or lunch if you're a big fan of meat, the Carne Asada is amazing and absolutely bursting with flavor. The Carnitas melt in your mouth and are outstanding! One of the standout sides was the sweet corn tamale (somewhere between a sweet potato casserole and elotes but with hardly any spice, just letting the sweetness of the corn blend with the cheese). Didn't try dessert yet, but we'll be back... again and again. Reuben took care of my team at lunch and Andrés took care of my wife and I at dinner, both servers were amazing, attentive, and wonderful to be served by! This place is a hidden gem, one of those places you go when people are in from out of town and you want to show them something special in your city. Don't miss it. read more

I heard about Sazón thru the yelp elite community. I came with my husband, toddler and mother in law. My mother in law lives in LA so she has had a ton of experience with LatAm cuisine and she said this was the best she's ever had. Even my toddler was so excited to eat the enchiladas and sopapilla sundae. The service was phenomenal, especially Jesus! While we're talking about phenomenal... THE MARGS!!! *chefs kiss*. I am a bit hesitant to write this review because in general I am not a fan of Mexican food. But with so many Mexican restaurants in the Denver area, I convinced myself I ought to try one that gets good reviews, and Sazon certainly does. I was a little weirded out by the location at first. The back entrance, which appears to be the front entrance, made it look like the restaurant was not even open, especially because the open sign wasn't on. And there's some construction going on back there and it just looked a little idd. So I went around to the other side, which is across the street from a United Artists Theater that looks like it is not open either. What with the wind whipping through the area and leaves blowing, I felt like I was in a ghost town. However, the restaurant was open and I went inside. The service was extremely friendly and cordial, top notch in fact. Cheerful, helpful, really nice. The menu is large and includes a variety of different types of dishes. Unfortunately, this visit mostly served to reinforce my notion that I am not a fan of Mexican food. I thought the Brazilian calamari was really good. I also tried the Oaxacan chicken, which was served with a rice cake that I found to be less than edible due to its saltiness. I want to be really careful about what I say now. The remainder of the meal, the chicken with its hot sauce, and the black beans, were, I suspect, made very well, and a fan of Mexican food would probably have really liked them. But I am not a fan of Mexican food, so for me they were pretty much just okay. Very spicy. The manager was kind enough to knock something off the bill for the saltiness of the rice cake. That's it. I debated whether or not I should even write this review, because it's kind of like someone who isn't a basketball fan writing a review of a basketball game. I hope I'm getting my point across. This is a nice Mexican/latin American restaurant, and if that sort of food is your thing, you should definitely give them a try. Unfortunately I have learned, again, that it's not _my_ sort of thing. Oh boy, Sazon did NOT disappoint; definitely the best Mexican food I've had in CO! Quite literally everything we tried was so flavorful and delicious. For starters, the margarita selection is incredible and I had the skinny marg which was sooo delicious. Then we did the table side guac, and again, perfection (I did think it was slightly overpriced but again, so good). My husband and I both tried some street tacos which were again, delicious -- I mean Sazon does not miss when it comes to FLAVOR. For my main I ordered the Ribeye, which was good, but in hindsight I should've really gotten something more "mexican"... like the Carne Asada. Also shoutout to Reuben who was the sweetest server who doubled as the bartender. My *only* complaint is that certain things on the menu did not have a price and instead had "MKT" next to them which I just don't expect at a mom and pop restaurant, especially for items such as guac or a carne Asada taco. I think it would really benefit the restaurant to add set prices to these menu items. That being said, I cannot wait to return to Sazon veryyyy soon. read more

Our server, Ruben (definitely ask for him!), was incredible, attentive, knowledgeable, and refreshingly honest with his recommendations, which made ordering easy and enjoyable. We started with the mocajete, and it came out sizzling with perfectly melted, bubbling cheese--absolutely delicious. Paired with their fresh, full tostada chips, we were already feeling full before the main course (in the best way). For entrées, we ordered the carne asada and the Oxacan chicken, and both dishes exceeded our expectations. The sauce on the chicken was next-level. Truly chef's kiss and the rice that accompanied it was unlike anything I've had before. It was so good I ordered extra to take home for my son. The portions were generous, the restaurant was clean, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Between the food, service, and overall experience, Sazon definitely made a great first impression. First time at Sazon and the food was delicious! We started with the Queso Fundido and they serve it with homemade flour (or corn) tortillas and a great salsa. For the entrees we got the Baja Enchiladas and the Oaxacan Chicken. There were three shrimp and crab filled enchiladas and their market price for the night was $27, which wasn't bad. The cotija rice and plantains on the side were also yummy. The Oaxacan chicken came with the rice and refried black beans which were good too. Our Blueberry Mojito and Picante Pineapple Margaritas were made well, and they also have a ton of other drinks to choose from. I will say the decor could use some work, but the food is worth coming back for again and again! Can't wait to try more of their menu. read more

Great little spot. We wondered initially where this place moved to. They used to be in Southlands Mall area. This new location in Park Meadows is way better and will get more traction because of its location. The decor is a lot better at this location also. We were impressed by the new location they sat us close to the bar and had lunch. You have to try their Queso Fundido and Molcajete bowl. Our server was very attentive and gave us great suggestions. We were visiting from out of town and found this place because of the great reviews -- and it absolutely lived up to all of it. We came a little early for dinner (time zone difference for us), so we were surprised it wasn't packed yet... but WOW. Easily one of the best Mexican dining experiences I've ever had. First -- the margarita I ordered was genuinely the best margarita I've ever had in my life. Perfect balance, not too sweet, super fresh. I would go back just for the margarita. The enchiladas I ordered were insanely tender and flavorful -- the kind where you can tell everything is made thoughtfully and with intention. The whole menu honestly felt like you could pick anything and there's no wrong choice. We even ended up getting dessert which was amazing too. Our waiter, Jesus, was incredible. He was training a new team member that night -- and you could immediately tell he is the standard you want in service. Kind, warm, helpful when you wanted input, but also gave space. He made us feel so welcome and taken care of without ever being overbearing.
