lobster roll

This place had high quality food, but the prices were very high. a lobster roll with fries was $32. Although the food was tasty, it didn't warrant the price. I also noticed that my lobster roll mainly had lobster claw pieces and no tail as you can see in the picture below. There was also outside seating which was great since we brought our dog. One side note is while ordering, a woman came to the register complaining of a bug in her food.

Save your time and money and go elsewhere. $42 for fried scallops and whole belly clams served on a togo container? Not worth it. The portions are so small and there is no taste. 5 small fried scallops and a whole bunch of fries underneath. The coleslaw also had no taste. Fries tasted like old grease. Also, the lady at the counter taking our order wasn't trained properly.. she had no idea what was on the menu and how to work the POS. I don't even know if there was a manager on duty. There's definitely a reason why this place is dead. I understand it's counter service but customer service is non existent here. It was just my boyfriend and I in the dining room and not one staff checked up on us and instead just stood there doing nothing as there was no other customers in line. My boyfriends family use to come here for years for the coffee / mocha frappes and they removed that from the menu. Honestly sad to see how bad this place has become after the new management took over. Listen to the other reviews when they all say this place has gone downhill. Where is management?! I wouldn't be surprised if this place closes down soon, which is very sad.

We went on opening night of the 2023 season. We bought a combo plate of scallops and clams. I was already amazed at the price of $42.99 for this plate, but when I saw the small size of the portion, relative to the price, I was blown away. The portion was small and the flavor was less than stellar. Gone are the days of the old Sawyer's. I sent an email to the new owners about our experience and absolutely no response. Tourists will visit once and locals may visit once, but I feel confident there will not be a lot of repeat customers. I also imagine that when people walk in and see the prices, they will turn right around and head out the door. I wish we had of. High prices, small portions and owners that don't care do not make a great mix. If you want seafood, it is worth driving down to Alton for great seafood, fair prices and large portions.

Ice cream is really expensive. The food too. It has a good location though - close to the lake.

Only one window open. Very slow. Poor service when ordering food. Took just as long as a sit down meal at a restaurant. Food was decent.

Kellerhaus is always a mandatory stop when we are in the area. We love to browse the gift shop…read moreand buy some fudge. And of course we always have to have some of their delicious ice cream. They have a couple dozen flavors of ice cream and a make your own sundae bar. The scoops of ice cream are generously sized and there's a decent variety of toppings on the sundae bar. I especially like the peanut butter sauce. I think the ice cream and the sundae bar are reasonably priced. I wish they had a typical display case for the ice creams, I'd like the opportunity to see what the different flavors look like before I order.

In recent years it has changed ownership and while we still visit, some changes have been made for the worse - mainly the new line and ordering setup. Now you are shuffled along a winding path where you can only see the flavor menu right as you're going to order; it makes deciding much more difficult and rushed. They then take your order and scoop everything downstairs, instead of in front of you in the ice cream case, which used to be more enjoyable. They leave the line standing there for a while until they bring orders upstairs and hand them to you. I understand if maybe this was necessary, I am just saying it feels a lot less quaint and personal, and more like you're being herded like cattle through a line where the ice cream is put together somewhere else. The old setup was much nicer and everyone I have talked to agrees. Their ice cream is still tasty, we love the sundae bar, and the homemade candy and chocolates are delectable. Kellerhaus has so much charm, and I would love to see the old ice cream setup brought back!

Their ice cream is made with a tiny number of ingredients and you will recognize everything in there. We came during the winter, so we did not get to experience the make your own flavor where they make it in front of you with liquid nitrogen, but we had a large assortment of flavors as ice cream pops dipped in chocolate. If this place was near me, they would be my go-to #1 ice cream shop. The ice cream was not overwhelmingly sweet and since it was made with cashews it did not have an overpowering coconut taste. The owner was ridiculously nice.

Oh no... had we stumbled onto some hippie facsimile of ice cream that would leave us just as fat but not as happy? The next nearest place was twenty minutes away (hey... it's the woods). Maybe we could just pick up a pint of Ben and Jerry's at a supermarket? Oh wait, those are wicked far, too. So we took the plunge. Are we ever happy we did. This is no flimsy health food recreation, this is the real deal. I'd even say better than ice cream. The owner makes it right in front of you--dripping cashew milk onto a frozen counter that he then freezes with liquid nitrogen. The kids had a lot of fun watching it. Everyone was amazed at how good it was. Given the crowd at an off hour of Saturday afternoon, it's a local favorite. It's not like there is any foot traffic. It's almost worth a two hour drive from Boston to have again!
