I was always curious riding by here. We finally had an opportunity last Saturday around 10 ish. Interesting how the front half is all booths and the back is tables which is where we sat. I got the senior meat 2 egg omelet with sausage and cheese. It comes with toast and hash browns. I got wheat and should have gotten the sourdough. Basil gave me a slice of his and finished mine. He got the rush river skillet. I'm always interested in what coffee brands restaurants use and they use Ridgeline which I'm guessing is local. We both enjoyed an above average breakfast and look forward to coming back. I may try something not as basic next time. read more

Very nice clean friendly place! Great service. Very nice Wisconsin Cafe. But the thing they do really well is Biscuits and Gravy! I love B&G I have found the best is generally from southern states. No great surprise there. The MN and WI cafes are mostly pancake and egg focused. Even in the south it's not that easy to find a place that really does the biscuit and the gravy well together often one or the other is sub par. BUT not at Sawyer Joe's both were great! The biscuits were lite, fluffy and flavorful. The gravy was exceptional with chunks of sausage and onions. I loved it! I can count on one hand the number of places I've found up north that have B&G of this taste and quality. So if you're in Ellsworth WI for the cheese curds swing by Sawyer Joe's. read more

Had a closing in Ellsworth and we arrived early looking for breakfast. Glad we stumbled upon this gem. Breakfast was amazing. I had the pancakes, eggs and meat and my husband had the breakfast burrito. Both were fabulous. Plenty of food and the service was impeccable. Bonus- appears to be a family run business. Waitress gave us a sour face as we entered. But since we had been there a lot last summer we went in anyway. The coffee was bad, really bad. Not the usual for this place. So I asked the waitress if they had changed he coffee. Yes a fee months back. I recommended they go back to the old brand. Her reply. Well I've gotten used to it now. What exactly are customers supposed to get used to? Bitter coffee with a funny aftertaste. Not one of us at our table could continue to drink our coffee. Alternate drinks were ordered. The food was tolerable but nothing great. What happened to the diner we frequented last summer? We were there three to four days a week. Not this summer. read more

A fun place to hang out! The food was yummy and affordable -- not to mention homey. Just the right grilled cheese or a BLT when I need a grilled cheese or a BLT. I haven't tried the breakfast food yet, but the pancakes are GIANT and I can't wait to give them a try! read more

We finally had a night to try the fish fry this Friday night. 3 different dishes: walley dinner... my husband stated best walleye he has ever had besides his own and we fish along so enough saidon that topic, next shrimp basket, another on the plate and with mash potatoes my Son loved it!! And for me had baked Cod dinner chili, fish and hashbrowns. Hashbrowns better than a cheesecurd in ellsworth... baked fish just right, and the chili.. Just liked my mom made.
