This is only one wall in the shop. The selection in this shop is jaw dropping!

I stumbled upon the health benefits of Green Tea about a decade ago. Especially how l-theanine helps to increase your levels of dopamine in your brain. My wife and I went on a day trip to Madison to check out a cheese shop I had found online. To my pleasant surprise, this tea shop was next door. It was a quiet weekday and after we went to the cheese shop, my wife wanted to checkout a few shops in the nearby area, so I told her I'd be in the tea shop when she was finished. When I walked in, the owner, whose name is Phil, greeted me kindly and through the course of our conversation, started to impart his vast knowledge of tea to me. I've met a few Tea shop owners who thought they knew about all the teas they sold, but they all take a back seat to Phil. I could have talked to him for hours, his knowledge was so extensive. I learned more in that time, than I had in the previous five years of self exploration. I sampled three of his recommendations, which I wound up buying 50 gram bags of to take home with me. The shop itself is tastefully designed to create a calming effect on anyone who walks in. I highly recommend stopping here if you drink tea at all, it's well worth the trip.

I recently attended a baby shower at Savvy Tea Gourmet. They have a small back room that works well for a small shower or other event. There were approximately 20 of us and that is probably the maximum. We enjoyed a tasting of different teas. They had indicated it would be 6 different types but we only had 5, which was plenty. I am not a tea drinker but did enjoy several of them, especially the Lavender Mint and one with Cactus Flower. In addition we were served a tiered tray with finger sandwiches (4 types) and an assortment of sweets (rich fudge brownies, lemon squares, macaroons and mini pistachio muffins). Next we had 2 types of mini quiche and finally a large scone. Since I have been watching what I eat I did not try everything, but what I did try was very good. In addition to our party it seemed to be busy in the front room where many different types of tea are served. Nice idea for a cold late Winter day. Savvy Tea Gourmet is located in Madison center right near Stop and Shop and one street over from Route 1 in walking distance from other Madison shopping and restaurants.

There are vibrant, comfortable chairs, and a sofa to relax in, and on nice days a porch to take in the sun. My daughter really enjoyed a holiday hot tea with honey that was so flavorful and I enjoyed a peach, flavored iced tea that really refreshed! We also purchased some incense sticks of high quality and some gifts for others to include hematite rings, pocket stones, and I will need to return for the beautiful Native American style jewelry. Our host was so welcoming, offering us a sample before we ordered. It made a lovely time seated comfortably on a happy yellow sofa and hearing the nearby train go by in the distance. We will return for sure! Treat yourself and come here! Very reasonable prices as well. The largest tea portions were well under four dollars and the gifts were very reasonable as well! They even have a salt infusion lounge with anti-gravity chairs which we hope to enjoy another time. The furnishings are really beautiful and comfy amid gleaming floors and a sunny atmosphere. We loved it!

We had the pleasure of being hosted by Nan. She told us then that she had recently listed her business for sale. I had heard that the business is now under new ownership and Nan will be staying on for the short term. We were provided sparkling juice and we had a choice of tea from an abundant of selections. I loved that each person had a stone trivet with Celtic designs for each's teapot. A 3-tiered tray was served for 2 persons. It came with pudding, cookies and chocolate, scones and an assortment of tea sandwiches. Nan also provided dairy free options! We mentioned on reservation that our party included dairy free persons. She most certainly delivered! Everything was great! We had the room to ourselves. She said she books the place in the way she wanted to have it. She was still conscientious of COVID guidelines and wouldn't pair another party close to another even though she could. She's so thoughtful! Everything tasted delicious. She regularly checked on us and even spent time to talk with us. I think business owners like her are what set business apart from others. So happy to have been able to make the visit while she owned it and I am looking forward to the legacy she leaves behind with the new owners. Hoping to visit again soon!

When we arrived we were told it would be just a few minutes as we were early. No problem! We had no agenda so that was completely fine. However, our reservation was at 1pm and we did not get seated until 1:30pm. It would not have been as bad if one of the staff simply came out to say sorry we will get you seated as soon as we can. There was literally no contact with anyone. We kept poking our heads around to make sure they knew we were there. The worst part was there were numerous open tables. I would've been fine had they sat us as given us some water vs. just waiting in the waiting room Once we were seated, our waitress was as pleasant as anyone could be. Very very kind. We ordered the winter tea service and started out with the tea sandwiches. They were very tasty as was the tea. Because we were so hungry we finished everything before the scones arrived. Once they arrived, they nice and warm which was a nice touch. However, the inside was still raw and doughy. I picked around it as best I could. The pianist was a nice addition. I just wish, especially with this being a surprise that it would have a better experience.

The photos and menu looked great - I had no idea they only opened a couple months ago, until our server mentioned it. You wouldn't guess it, based on the attention to detail and how smoothly everything runs. It's a lovely space. They take your coats, give you purse hooks, and have a piano player jazzing up the ambiance with mellow yet uplifting tunes. The table was set perfectly with china and all the accessories you need with tea. There is a fancy/classy, yet casual, vibe. We were excited to find out we could both pick our own teas and that we didn't have to agree on one tea service (for food). The scones and treats were the same on all, but the sandwich selection varied on the three different afternoon tea menus. I opted for the "classic", which came with coronation chicken salad, ham/cheddar/mango chutney, cucumber, smoked salmon, and egg salad sandwiches. My husband got the "teas around the world" which came with Brie/apple/honey, ham/gruyere/dijon, olive tapenade/sundried tomato, chickpea/tzatziki, and a spiced chicken sandwich. All were excellent!! And when we finished, they even offered us more if we wanted them. The teas were great! We were allowed to pick our own teas (didn't have to share) from a broad menu of teas. The owner buys direct in London to get some of the finest teas that are not available locally. I am caffeine free so opted for Marian Wright Edelman's Guardian's Grace, a fruity herbal tea that was relaxation in a teacup for me. My husband first tried the Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Strength Blend, and the also had Mary McLeod Bethune's Essence of Uplift. They were all different, but all very tasty, and perfectly brewed. It also wasn't lost on me that the teas were named after amazingly strong women throughout history, and that we were enjoying them at a woman owned business, on International Women's Day! The scones were delivered fresh out of the oven with your choice of clotted cream, jam, or lemon curd (YES to all, please!) or also butter. The pastries I believe are a rotating selection, but all were tasty bites. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, welcoming, and hospitable. It's a nice easy pace, with two hours reserved for your experience. It was a wonderful escape from reality! I really appreciate Laurie, Donjae, and Ingrid for creating the perfect experience for us today. 10/10 highly recommend. Call ahead for reservations!

The service was horrendous. My drink was four dollars and I got charged a dollar more for no reason. Making it five dollars. The drink was not hot and tasted more like water than hot cocoa. We asked for it to be heated up and they said they could not do that. They told us the half-and-half makes the hot chocolate cooler than if we were to order just hot chocolate with water. I thought that was a problem. But then I had to deal with the rude attitude of two of their employees. When we told them that our drink was not hot and asked them to heat it up, they told us that they could not do so. They said they would have to remake it and they could just put hot water in with no cream. The snippy, sassy attitude was not appreciated. The adorable ambience of the teahouse is worth a visit. More of a walk-through. But I would never come here again with the attitude of two of their female employees. I can't imagine if I was rude to them how much worse they would have treated me. There are too many choices in this cute village to spend your money. Save it. Do not come here.

But if you can spent more on a pot of tea then you can get the nice china. So I ordered the pot of tea for more money because the my mother was having a different tea. I was told that they usually serve "Starbucks" style where you go to the counter and they give you a cup of tea to go ( even if the whole point is not to go to Starbucks but have lovely afternoon with my mother) The only way you get served is if you get the pot of tea. The treats ( cookies and such- no scones in this day) are individually wrapped in ziplock bags) Again if you don't mind a different type of afternoon tea experience and you are just there maybe for the atmosphere and don't need a restroom ( sorry I keep bringing that up but I still can't believe it) then you can indulge in these teas and the company of the lovely owner.
