For dinner, he had the NY sirloin steak, accompanied by mashed sweet potatoes and veggies, and I had the seafood pasta. At $31 for the pasta, my expectations were high. The pasta was homemade and in a delicious red sauce. It also had tons of mussels, clams, scallops, and shrimp - totally worth it! Savor in Somerville NJ fuses Italian, Spanish, French and American cuisines. The interior is fairly small but elegantly appointed and easy on the eyes in a conservative generic theme. The menu has many classic dishes (e.g. Chicken Francaise, Veal Millanese, etc ...) and very succulent specials. Both the classic dishes and the specials were excellent as were the appetizers and desserts. The service was excellent with the perfect combination of personality and professionalism. Savor is BYOB and the menu prices are extremely easy on the wallet. I highly recommend this as a regular stop for dinner groups, dates, or if you just don't feel like cooking one night. read more

Savor is a delicious restaurant with great prices! I find myself eating here once a week with my friends. My favorite dish is the orecchiette with the Italian sausage. Delicious! I have also tried the eggplant stack which is amazing. My friends and I really enjoy eating lunch here and have yet to be disappointed with their food or service. I highly recommend this place if you want a great meal with great prices!! The only reason I am giving the restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 is because their menu could be expanded to feature a few more main lunch entrees. read more

This was my first time here. I dined alone on Father's Day. First, I enjoyed awesome homemade Gnocchi with Pesto. The gnocchi melts in your mouth and the pesto was not heavy- it coated the pasta well. During the summer, I dined outside. The server/host was attentive and friendly. The homemade tiramisu was fluffy, flavorful and plated well with 4 corner puffs of whipped cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon. I will bring my wife here for a date night. So inviting and great seating, but the food was down-right terrible. So disappointing! Dined there last night, and I will never be returning. Each of our $12 appetizers were nearly inedible. Bacon wrapped scallops were a scary mix of over and under cooked. Crab cake tasted straight out of the freezer. My mix green salad had a healthy dose of walnuts and cranberrys, but the mozzarella was not so hot. The dressing was basically pink syrup. My companion's $23 (?!?!?!) penne vodka with chicken again seemed right of the freezer and into the mircowave. He's a guy who will scape his plate but he didn't bother finishing or even getting the leftovers to go. The dinner rolls: at true abomination. The first was ROCK HARD. Could not even cut it open with a knife - it just shattered, spraying us both with crumbs. The 2nd, a rasin rolls, looked moldy. I wondered how many other diners had rejected those rolls, only to have them recycled for us. At nearly $70 including tip, it was an incredible disappointment. We won't be back. read more

Tried this restaurant for the 1st time; saw it mentioned on-line. It has very nice atmosphere and excellent service. But, the food was not so enjoyable to me. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi thinking it would be delicious. Unfortunately, the shrimp were so very salty that I could barely eat them. And, the pasta that accompanied the shrimp were swimming in a buttery sauce; way too much sauce. I always finish my meal (or take home leftovers), but in this case, I was unable to handle the saltiness. On a good note, the salad special was very good and the dessert (almond cheesecake) was delicious. I might decide to try it again, but I will not order the Shrimp Scampi. read more

I don't understand why this place gets so many negative reviews. My husband and I were looking for a place to host an event and we came across to this restaurant. We tried it for lunch before inquiring the party packages options and we were impressed with their food and service. Robert, the manager was very friendly and helpful, we sat with him right after lunch and discuss the options that we were looking for and he was very accommodating. The day of the event all of our guests enjoyed their food, we were able to bring our own bottles of liquor and the waiters were attentive and precise with everything we have asked for at the time we signed the contract. We've been back after the event we hosted at Savor and the food never disappoints. Base in our experiences this place deserves 5 stars. Highly recommend it! read more

I was wavering between three and four stars so I asked myself "Will I come back the next time I'm in the area?" and my answer was no, so three stars it is. It wasn't that I had a bad meal, it's just that there wasn't anything special about it. The rolls were fresh and warm (check), the Caesar salad was perfect (check), and the cheesecake was delicious (check)...so why only three stars? It's because my main lamb chop dish was underwhelming. I received four small lamb chops (tasty, but not enough) with undercooked potatoes that my eating companion also received, so it just wasn't an exciting meal. If they had given one or two more chops, and had the potatoes been cooked more, this could have easily been a four star review. I do appreciate the fact that our server offered to dress up my cheesecake with raspberry sauce after I asked if they could throw some fruit on it, and they are brand new so I'm sure they're working out the kinks, but there are a lot of restaurants to choose from in this area so the next time I'm on business I'll try somewhere else. First visit for lunch today. Good service, good food, moderate prices, BYO. We will be going back for more of the menu. Not likely that it will beat out Cafe Picasso for Italian food but worth a try. What impressed me most about Savor was the selection of starters - raw bar, apps, salads. Lots of options. We split an order of the mussels which were very good. My wife had the salmon for her main course - a nice sized piece of fish, cooked properly. She thought that the lemon-caper sauce could have been better. I had the fettucini with sausage, basil, etc which was good as well. The fettucini needed a few more seconds to be properly al dente. Excellent tiramisu for dessert, a big portion - more than enough for the two of us. Music was something pop. Much quieter than Cafe Picasso which has an open kitchen. Last Saturday morning I arrived at Savor only to find that they were closed for a private event. I went there with my sons and wife to celebrate her birthday. I checked their Web site to see when they opened; it showed an 11:30 opening, but no mention of being closed for a private event. I even called at 10:30 am to verify their opening, but no one answered. To add insult to injury, when I challenged the hostess that their Web site showed that they were open, she responded that there was a sign posted in front of the restaurant. I tried Savor for the first time after hearing some really good things about it. The atmosphere was truly enjoyable, modern, warm, dark, but not too dark. We had a party of 7 and were promptly seated on a Friday night. I ordered the Salmon Dijonaise, which was absolutely delicious. One of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. It was fairly pricy though, at about $25, so that's where I had to deduct a star. I tasted the Veal milanese that my mom had ordered, also very delicious. Food at best is Okay! Terrible dining experience! Waited over 35 minutes for meal with no contact from waiter. When voiced are displeasure waiter replied that we were wrong. No apologies. Waiter develops an attitude totally unprofessional put our plates down abruptly and neglected to check up on our dinner. Never asked if we needed anything else and when the check came he told us to keep our tip ,that we needed it more ! Informed the manager of our waiting with no response. No I'm sorry, no nothing from the Manager. Bill came and waiter said don't leave tip and was rude making a scene and put his fingers to his lips saying good bye. The first time I tried to dine here, they were completely booked and suggested I make a reservation so I did that next time. The good : Location is excellent , right in the heart of downtown Somerville . They also have outdoor seating available. Ambiance is nice. Service was good . No issues there. That's where it stops for me though . The food was mediocre at best. Everything I ordered I could prepare much better myself. I had a spicy shrimp appetizer that tasted like the shrimp were simply tossed in hot sauce. I had ribs for my entree which were dry and there was nothing unique about the flavor of the sauce. I had the Rigatoni Vodka and my boyfriend had the Parmesan Encrusted Chicken. For the appetizer we had the Caprese and for dessert we split a Cannoli. All food that hit the table was great. Pastas are made in house and the cannoli was homemade. For all of that it came out to about $65 which wasn't too bad. The service was great. Everything came out very quickly and the our waitress was very attentive. We will definitely be back and trying more of the pastas and desserts. read more

We wanted to book a table for nine (9) of us on Mother's Day. There was nothing available unless we opted for a 3:30P seating, which was fine. The waiter was very experienced and patient, but the kitchen was extremely slow. We didn't eat until well past 5:00P. My wife was very pleased with the Savory salad, and also the salmon. I went to Savor for the first time for and early dinner with a friend after reading mostly positive reviews. I was disappointed with the food and there was horrible pop music playing rather loudly. I asked the waiter if something different could be played; he said it was satellite radio and could not be changed, so offered to turn it down instead which we took him up on. I ordered gnocchi with pesto and a house salad. The salad was ok but overdressed, and the gnocchi somewhat gummy in texture and the pesto essentially tasteless and under seasoned. We were served bread which was mediocre and not warm. The waiter was nice enough and service was good (it was early for dinner and we were the only customers in the place at that time), but that alone is not enough to draw me back and I will not return to see if perhaps we just hit the place on an off night. read more

Very nice service but the food is very mediocre at best - more chicken dishes than anything else on the menu and the steak was poor quality meat (chewy) with diner-like veggies poorly done and cooked. They took it off the bill which was very kind but neither management nor kitchen ever bothered asking what the problem was. They can't care less. This review is long overdue.......we held a luncheon for 50 -60 people after my mother's funeral. The folks at Savor could not have been nicer and more accommodating as the guests increased to over 75! They quickly rearranged tables & chairs to accommodate the overflow. Savor did a wonderful job servicing everyone, offering a choice of 3 different entrees and a selection of appetizers, salads and desserts. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about it. We were able to celebrate my mom's amazing life and catch up with close friends and family. We stayed for almost 4 hours, they didn't try to rush us out. Terrible service. Was told it would be impossible to add two chairs to my table because "they just don't do that." They said they do not put tables together or move any chairs around. They preferred losing customers, having an entire food order cancelled than accommodating a family of four, two of whom were already sitting at a four person table. Holy Cow! What an excellent meal, as always! Robert and the Savor staff hit it out of the park. The HOMEMADE pasta with my shrimp scallops clams entree was beyond delicious! I suggest the Savor salad, the beets were so fresh. But, Carol's Southern salad and Scallop entree was equally as good. Couldn't decide if the cheesecake or chocolate lave cake was better.
