    Braciole
    Dan M.

I returned here for another meal. The Hotsy Totsy Shrimp was once again ordered. It was very good as my previous review stated, but it was definitely not as spicy as I remembered. Instead of the Caesar salad this time, I had the house salad. This was tasty and the house dressing was pleasing like I remembered trying last time. For an entrée, I had the braciole. It was three large pieces of beef braciole topped with lots of cheese. I also opted for a side of rigatoni with marinara sauce. The braciole was tender, but could have been a tad more seasoned, but regardless, it was still very tasty and filling with the red sauce. I liked the melted mozzarella on top too. I also had the pistachio tartufo again (see previous review for similar thoughts).

If you see a lamb chop special on the menu, run don't walk! We're expecting a snow storm tonight but the locals all know. Danny is on the grill tonight and the chops are awesome

Our neighborhood's local Italian eatery and it did not disappoint! Went in on a Sunday evening for my wedding anniversary. Had their staple Sunday Gravy which was phenomenal. So delicious and hearty. Everything tasted super fresh. Wife went with the traditional chicken parm which she loved. We will be back. If you're looking for a laid back Italian meal, this is where it's at. Service was top-notch. Restaurant is super chill and laidback. Great for a date night or a group!

A local gem. The steak is so delicious but pricey. I sit and the bar and it's a lot of fun. This place is always packed. The real deal Italian food!

    White sangria

The food, ambience and service is always amazing and this time was no different. I got the chicken parm with vodka sauce and a side of linguine and it was fantastic! The sangria is also phenomenal and I will be back again!

The service is quick too, I felt like our food came out quickly for the size of our group. One thing to note is that this restaurant is BYOB. The food - it was okay. The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part). It felt like more ravioli than lobster. I was really excited about the tri color pizza, it sounds so yummy with all the sauces! I was disappointed to see that the stripes however are all of the 3 sauces you get. So I felt it really lacked in sauce. What I think should have been done, is thick stripes of the sauce, cheese on top, and then the stripes for the plating. My sister got the pesto pizza and the also complained that there was a lack of sauce. Overall, I think this restaurant is okay. I'm not really sure I would be back as there are other pizza places in the area where I've had better pizza.

I mean, where else can you get Tri-Colored Pizza which was pesto, vodka sauce, and marinara with mozzarella all on the same slice? Plus, the crispy chicken on top? Chef's kiss. The crust was crispy AF, just the way my boyfriend and I like it. We really liked this pizza. Now, the riceballs... my boyfriend (a Jersey native, so he knows his stuff) thought they were just okay. Would we order them again? Probably not. But honestly, we're coming back for that pizza. Their pizza flavors and that perfect crispiness of the crust have us hooked. We definitely want to come back to try their appetizers and salads as well.

We sat at the bar and were greeted promptly by the bartender even though he was getting slammed. Our cocktails (Makers Mark on the rocks and Tito's up olives) were served promptly. Nicely chilled martini glass. :) Menu is decent size and as you would expect, heavy emphasis on seafood. Wine list is brief (by the glass and bottles) but many food friendly choices of good value. When we went to order some oysters, we were told we needed to put the entire dinner order in at one time. I thought that peculiar, so we took some more time to peruse the menu while we were shooting the breeze. We decided on a dozen oysters. I had the Seaford Special and my friend had the Mussels Bianco. We ordered a bottle of Albarino to have with dinner. The Cape May oysters came out first. Ice cold. Nice and briney. Served with ample horseradish and cocktail sauce. Wish they served a mignonette. Nevertheless, oysters on the mark. Their sesame semolina bread is delicious. No butter needed. The mussels were cooked perfectly. Reminded me of Jacque Pepin's recipe. Lots of flavor but not too much garlic. The Seaford Special was spectacular and awesome value. Lobster tail and very generous portions of clams, calamari, shrimp and scallops served over penne in a light white sauce. The Albarino paired well with both dishes. I finished with a capuccino which was hot and on the mark. Wonderful evening of banter at the bar. Perfect pace, tasty dishes and great service. Cant wait to bring my bride here. Oh. One last thought. This was a Tuesday night and the bar was full as were most tables. They do NOT take reservations so be prepared to have a drink or two at the bar while waiting for a table. Worth the wait! Cheers!

Ever. Parents got the Original with sausage, and they're STILL talking about it; both of them grew up in Northern New Jersey, so they KNOW good pizza when they taste it. This place is just THAT exceptional. Hours are a little odd, but service was spot-on, bathrooms are not handicap accessible and behind the kitchen, but very clean and in good working order. Naturally, I walked in expecting a life-changing pizza experience... maybe angels singing... maybe my taste buds ascending to another dimension. What I got instead was a good pie -- just not quite the legendary, internet-breaking experience I had built up in my head. First thing to know: this place is old school. When they sell out, that's it -- game over. We actually had to call in our order hours in advance, so there's a bit of a jumping-through-hoops situation if you want to secure a pie. Also, there's no table service. You order your pie at the counter, grab a table if one's available, and drinks are in that classic see-through fridge where you grab them yourself. Parking is street parking only (no dedicated lot), so be ready to circle a bit. One pro tip: cash is cheaper than credit card here. Now the pizza itself. The cheese had nice blistering and the ingredients tasted fresh. The sauce definitely leans sweet, which I know a lot of people enjoy. Personally, I'm more of a tangy / saltier sauce guy, so the sweetness stood out to me. The dough is where I had mixed feelings. It held together nicely, but felt a little dry for my liking. I also tend to prefer wood or charcoal-fired pizzas because that smoky flavor adds another dimension that I didn't quite get here. Overall verdict: good pizza, just maybe a little overhyped for the score it got. Still worth trying if you're in the area -- just maybe leave the life-altering expectations at the door. Good pie. Just not quite the pizza enlightenment I was promised.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.
