Goodwill Donation Center

I enjoy donating at this Donation Center. They're always willing and ready to help. They're all…read moregreat, especially Chris. The other workers are good, too, but Chris is exceptional. When I donate I'm not there for long yet he makes it worth while. Great guy!

I made my 8th trip in 2 weeks to this location to donate (I am emptying a house). There is a young…read moreman and a young lady there that seem to be on duty during the week that are wonderful, pleasant, and helpful (and they deserve 5 stars). However, Chris (who seems to be there on the weekends) is another story. Today was the 3rd time I have encountered him and each encounter has been worse that the one before. The sign says "wait in your car and someone will assist you." The other young man and young lady ALWAYS come out right away and offer to help. Chris, on the other hand, sits on his but and waits until you honk your horn to get his attention. Then, when he does show up, he makes it quite plain that absolutely does NOT want to do ANY work. I had to ask for assistance the first time and I still unloaded 75% of my donations myself. The second time he came out, I rolled my window down and told him I had stuff in the cargo area and back seat and he barely acknowledged me and then proceeded to take one of the bins someone had filled earlier inside. The other young man (the nice one) had also come out by that time so I told him the same thing. He asked "oh, that's not your stuff he just took in?" and I said no. So he unloaded my items, asked if I needed a receipt, and thanked me for my donation (as I also thanked him for his help). Today, I went again with a very large tote in the cargo area (like a 4 foot x 2 foot tote) - which necessitated my putting my seats down so I could close the cargo gate - a bag in back seat area and a box in the back seat area, as well as two very nice wooden walking sticks (cost over $50) in the back seat. I told Chris when he finally came out (after I honked my horn after a waiting several minutes and seeing him inside just walking around aimlessly) that I had a tote in the cargo area and a box and a bag and two walking sticks in the back seat area. Common sense would have dictated taking the tote first since it was huge, but no. He ripped the walking sticks out of the back seat followed by the bag and box and threw them in the bin. Then, he reached in and jerked that very large tote from the cargo area through my back door, slamming the door open so HARD that the hinges popped hard and sprang back, causing the car to rock (at which time I said "hey, take it easy on the door"). He was VERY CLEARLY angry that he was having to get off his lazy butt and do something. He offered no apology. I am a 64 y/o disabled woman with my left wrist in a brace, a back back, bad shoulders, and bad knees and I could run circles around this gold bricker. The nice young woman had since come out to offer help and I called her over and asked about when they might have a Manager on duty. I told her how disgusted I was with Chris's behavior and that this was not the first time. I also said Goodwill needs to know if he damaged my hinges in any way, they are going to pay for it. I told her his behavior is just totally unacceptable. I also told her how very much I like dealing with her and the other young man, as they are always so professional and polite. So, my rating is based SOLELY on Chris and Goodwill's stupid decision to keep him employed there. They need to give his job to someone who truly wants it. If he wasn't there and I didn't have to deal with him, my review would have been 5 stars for the other two employees who are so sweet and nice and they are the reason I could not post a well-deserved one-star rating for my experience with Chris. I had to add a star for them, even though this review is of the business. I will NEVER again go on the weekend in the hopes I never see him again. I am hoping to be done with my donations soon so I don't have to deal with someone that unpleasant. I feel badly having to leave such a review because the other employees are so so wonderful. However, a business is only as good as its weakest link and I cannot help but think the Manager has to be aware of this guy's attitude. I will also be following up with a phone call to said Manager on Tuesday.
