Whenever I go to the service department at the car dealership and they give me a list of "recommendations", I politely tell them, "just the oil change please" and then I go to Savco to see what I can save. I know that Mike and his team will tell me the real deal about my car and not try to just make a buck. I truly appreciate that. Then I fixed those problems and I brought it back. They said everything's good but oh here's another thing I just noticed that I passed you on... it needs to be fixed.... We switched to Beltsville location after moving to Columbia in 1997. 32 years later, they are still the most honest and fair mechanics I've ever known. I feel sad writing this review, because these are people that I have known for years, formed what I thought was great rapport with, and not to mention spent thousands to service multiple vehicles. I have agonized over posting this review all this time, but the disappointment I felt from the treatment I got outweighs the reservation to hold back from posting a negative review. In November 2020, I dropped off my car for brake service. I was planning a long road trip with my family and just wanted to be safe. After dropping the car off, I got a call from SAVCO, and was told that my struts were really bad, that I HAD to get them replaced. $1500 later, I picked up my car and went home. I did not notice the damage to the front passenger side fender until later that evening, by which SAVCO was already closed. There were scratches to my bumper, and it looked like someone tried to pop it back into place. The next day, I drove to SAVCO and spoke with the gentleman whom I assume is the owner. When I explained the issue, he passed me over to the service manager. On cue, the service manager denied any wrongdoing. What the smudges show is the attempt by someone wearing gloves to fix the bumper back into place after the impact popped off a part of it. Mechanics wear latex gloves all the time. You know, I like these guys so much that if they had owned up and admitted to the damage, I would not have been upset at all! I have given them my business since 2012. I hate to have to create new relationship with another auto repair shop, but I cannot go back to SAVCO. I emailed SAVCO about this damage and got no response. Had a Jetta that was starting to cost a lot of money. I eventually had to let it go but savco saved me a lot of money versus me going to the dealership. I needed work one time and the dealership quoted me for a 1200$ service charge, Savco charged me 500$ for the same exact work. The owner, I believe, clearly cared about the problems for the car and d idnt try to get over on me. Yelpers... we must unite and share our horror stories and reveal this place for its true swindling nature. Having viewed their good Yelp rating recently, I recently took a vehicle here for state inspection...B-A-D- I-D-E-A!!!! I left the car with "Brian" on a Saturday morning and was advised that I would be able to pick it up in 2 hours. An hour and a half later I received a phone call stating the mechanic could not locate the key for the wheel locks on the tires which I am pretty certain was in the glove box when I left the car but had magically disappeared while on their property...A $50 cost for labor, now doubling the original inspection fee. I thought ok, lesson learned, wont use this establishment again. I returned to pick up the vehicle after they let me know the inspection was completed another hour and a half later. I was greeted by a different mechanic also introducing himself as "Brian," who advised I needed to replace my back rotors and windshield wiper blades but that the vehicle had passed the inspection. I thanked him and went to the counter to pay at which time he relayed that the work could be completed in the same day with them for about $750. Having a mechanic brother in law, I gladly declined the service knowing even the most high end parts for these issues would not cost more than $200 from the local auto store and I had no intention of rendering $600 for an hour's worth of labor. This obviously was not to Brian#2's liking as he shortly said "ok just give me a minute" and took my inspection form back into the repair area briefly chatting with Brian#1 before returning to accept my payment. I assumed perhaps Brian#1 had to sign off on the form or something and didn't think much of it until I glanced at the form handed to me after my payment processed which now had the "PASS" marking scratched out and the "FAIL" indication marked. I quickly inquired what was going on at which time Brian#1 resurfaced from the repair area and Brian#2 scurried off eslewhere. He proceeded to ramble about how they'd "forgotten" to notate some issue about the car's exhaust hangers needing to be remounted resulting in the inspection failure now being indicated. Now I'm thinking and by you forgot you mean since I was not foolish enough to pay you exorbitant fees for minor repair work you have conjured up some mystery issue affecting the car you would like me to pay you all to address. Fine... by this point I was eager to get on with my weekend activities so I asked how much said mystery issue was going to cost me....$180. $180??? One-HUNDRED-eighty buckaroos!!! Really Brians? Really?!!! Fine, whatever... just mount the hangers and give me the keys and form please and thanks. They say this will take about 45 minutes so I head across the street to pick up rotors and windshield wipers that ended up costing me about $120 before returning to the shop about an hour later. Much to my surprise, rather than being greeted by a third Brian with my keys in tow I found the shop...closed. I could see my vehicle behind glass being held a hostage against its and my will with no Brians in sight. I located a small sign in the window describing the business hours for the day until 2:00pm and checked my watch realizing that with the time now being 2:07pm, I would not be able to get the car, keys, and form back until Monday as they are closed on Sundays. So you could call me to inquire if I would be alright with your $50 fraudulent charge for wheel locks but not to relay that you would be holding the car your prisoner if I did not return at 2:00pm on the dot? It would have been nice of you to have made mention of the early closing time before my departure as the original work time was quoted as 2hours and extended passed 3hours so how was I to know suddenly your team had taken a speed course in punctuality. We will fast forward to Monday morning at which time I return to render the payment for the mystery work, retrieve the inspection form, and save my vehicle from this wretched scheme shop. What do you know? At the front desk, I am welcomed by yet another face I have not seen before who introduces themself as...BRIAN! If in your life you have missed out on ever having known a Brian, I strongly encourage you to make a visit and get your fill of them here, because I sure did.This Brian#3 seemed somewhat empathetic about my poor experience with the first 2 Brians who conveniently were not present at the time but nooooooooot empathetic enough to waive the 30$ fee he added stating the 1st 2 Brians must have missed the 2 rear lamp bulbs I had that were out so he replaced... Now totaling over $300 for an inspection originally said to cost $50 and endless inconvenience and strife from this swindle shack. Beware of these Brians and their unethical antics! read more

Just moved here from California and after being brought to tears by the horrific treatment I received at the MVA (Another story) I found Savco for my Maryland Auto Inspection. They squeezed me in at the 11th hour and charged almost ten dollars less than a competitor up the road. They also found an oil leak, bringing it to my attention, encouraging me to take the vehicle to my dealer for repairs. Unbelieving, owing to the 30k mile tune-up I'd just had before my move, they took the time to lift the car again and show me. Sure enough, I had an oil leak! They merely told me as a favor. They weren't even trying to get more work out of the deal. In any case, I really felt cared for and appreciated so much their competitive service and rates. I've been taking our cars there for 10 years. They are the best. Everyone has bad experiences with auto mechanics, as well as plumbers, carpenters, and so forth. SAVCO is competent, quick, and very reasonable. A couple of years ago I blew a clutch. The first estimate at a Shell station was for about $2,000, the Nissan dealer about the same. SAVCO did it for $900. This has happened many times. I can't tell you how many times they have fixed "little things" free of charge. And the many times they have advised me against unnecessary repairs. I'm not denying K.T. had a bad experience, as have I with other craftsmen. But SAVCO is my go-to mechanic. If they ever do something to change that, I will post it immediately. read more

I would highly recommend this place! Over the years I have had a lot of problems with my car and every where I went the problem would get fixed and a few months later the same problem would return, the worst part is all the money I had to put into it and never getting the real problem fixed. I was told about this place by friends and I took my car in and was given a full inspection and told exactly what problems needed to be fixed.
