Out of all my years of eating school food, I can finally say there is found food that is actually enjoyable to eat. I can speak for hundreds of people when I say that school food has always been the worst, but the people working at the Eagle Dining Services on 97 Georgia Avenue actually know what they're doing.
There is such a wide variety of food available there, that not even I have tried everything yet, and I eat there twice every day. There are different restaurants like Brick Oven, Traditions, No Whey! and Backyard Gourmet that each have their own unique menu. Along with their large selection of restaurants, comes an even larger selection of food.
I have yet to try every restaurant yet, but one of my favorites would have to be Signatures. Signatures offers make-it-yourself soups, salads, and my favorite, sandwiches. The ingredients offered to create your own sandwich are as fresh as possible allowing full flavor with every bite. A large selection of breads such as white, wheat, wrap, and even spinach wrap are available. This goes perfectly well with your choice of meat, cheese, and toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The sandwich can be cut in half and toasted depending on how you want it.
Many if not all of the chefs working in the Dining Commons are or were students at Georgia Southern University at some point. They do a great job at providing students and visitors with an at home feel no matter how far away from home you are, weather its three hours or one hundred miles.
The chefs over at Food Theater show that the have experience in the art of creating delicious foods by cooking it right in front of you. These ACF-Certified EDS chefs cook only the best when it comes to fish, weather you want it by itself or between two slices of warm toasted bread. There fish has a flavor and texture that melts in your mouth, giving a soft warm burst of flavor that I have never tasted anywhere else.
The warm taste of the fish sets well with the warm ambiance that you'll feel in all of three uniquely designed sitting areas. There is a Loft like are with nicely designed wood ceilings and tall round tables with tall seats to match. The common sitting area has the design of a school while still standing out from others. Lastly, the fancy dinning feel is delivered in the center of the building. This area has booth seats and dim lighting, giving the feel of a five star restaurant.
In the middle of the dim lights and booths, stands the Brick Oven. Brick Oven provides students and visitors with pizza by the slice. This pizza is made to order and served fresh. The wide choice of toppings make it hard to decide which you want, making you just pick up one of each.
Around the Dining Commons are beverage dispensers. Drinks such as orange and apple juice, lemonade, water, powerade, coffee, and coke products can be retrieved from the three drink dispensers around the area. Don't worry refills are free and based on the large variety of food, you might need to refill your cup a few times, because you'll be there for a while.
Exiting is as easy as picking up your plate, going to the disposal area, and putting your plate on one of many slowly rotating shelves. Your dishes are then thoroughly cleaned by the dish washing crew and stored. There are exits all around the building, but make sure you only use the main doors in the front of the building. All other doors are made for fire exits and have alarms on them that will go off within fifteen seconds of the door being opened.
At this amazing restaurant, you will feel good about yourself once leaving. Student eating is free, but for those who are visiting, breakfast is $8.50, lunch is $11.00, and dinner is $13.00. These prices are nothing compared to the large buffet of delicious food available and a soft and friendly atmosphere.
