We couldn't even find the place! We followed our directions to the address and there was nothing there.

A small, simple breakfast diner ( definitely need some fly strips) with the potential to be amazing. Visited on our first day in Statesboro. Hubby order a side order of biscuits and gravy (meat not included) and eggs over easy with sausage patties and bacon. I ordered the fried pork chop, eggs over easy and grits with sourdough toast. We both had coffee. My pork chops was hella salty! I could be wrong but I wondered if they cook the chops in salt pork fat? It seemed to have THAT level of saltiness-unlike just over salting during prep. Eggs were great but grits also seemed well salted but I wouldn't put it into the same category as the pork chop and toast was burnt. Hubby's bacon was also hella salty and if I didn't already do my best to get through my extremely salty pork chop, I would have eaten that hella salty bacon and loved it (I love salt pork). We couldn't eat it all due to the level of salt but made an honest effort. I think this could have been an off day and we loved the simple , hometown diner experience but they truly would benefit from keeping the flies under control. I would definitely try them again , especially because our waiter was a super sweet and respectful young man. Hopefully, they will pay more attention to the salting of the food. read more

This was a great breakfast and so tasty. I had a fantastic pancake with a blueberry waffle, a Spinach Turkey sausage omlette and crispy finely shredded hasbrown... Oh my!! It was so good. The service was so friendly and down to earth to make everybody feel welcome. The atmosphere was cozy that you can easily spend a couple of hours just chatting with friends in a both and enjoying some lovely meals and beverages. After visiting the 'Boro for a wedding, we met friends for breakfast after seeing decent reviews. D's is fairly small and fairly loud when full (it was) with probably 10 tables all there together. Food pretty good and service was adequate but our orders arrived piecemeal, which was not ideal. Wife & I split the "More Than Enough" platter: 3 eggs, 2 meats, hashbrowns & waffle. After some wait, our waffle arrived alone (well, with a plate of toast that apparently went with our friends' order but no one was quite sure). Since any waffle will cool off immediately, we felt obliged to dig in. Awkward. Six to seven minutes later, the rest of our tables' order finally came. Food was country cooking just like we were looking for. Service was fantastic. Constantly packed and busy, but well handled by the 3 waiters/waitress'. Noisy, but in a hometown, pleasant, chatty way. (Overheard some great gossip about folks I don't know, but my lips are sealed). Had an official "old fellers" table which is a great sign for any hometown diner. Great new find! I visited D's Friendly Diner yesterday and Man, it was great! Fantastic food with quick and friendly service. I am posting two recent pictures of the menu, because I only saw old menu pictures on Yelp. And, I should mention that the prices are great! Way more reasonable than others. Inflation is here but not so much at D's. I had the Chicken Fried Steak with gravy, two eggs, grits and toast - $8.29. Can't beat that! read more

Tuesday, November 3, 2020 - party of 2 I was really wow'ed by all the great Yelp reviews so I picked this spot to have breakfast with my mom. We arrived at 10:30am after getting lost from gps (it sends you to an empty shopping center across the street. D'a is actually located by the Big Lots. The restaurant was less than half full with most people finishing up their meals. Since they serve breakfast all day, we chose breakfast. I ordered a veggie omelette minus mushrooms with hash browns. My mom ordered scrambled eggs and a pancake. We both had coffee. While the waitress was friendly, she was a bit scattered and was MIA the majority of our time there. This meant waiting excessively long for creamer and coffee refills. The cook brought out mom's pancake and the rest of the food arrived 15 minutes later. The cook said he had to remake the omelette since he forgot to delete the mushrooms. Not sure why he brought out the pancake so early. No other customers came in while our food was being prepared. The food tasted fine but we were disappointed with the wait and lack of service. The restaurant could really use a thorough scrubbing. The dust on the wood trim by our table was an inch thick. Based on those glowing reviews, I'm guessing we picked a bad day and will visit again to see if we experience an improvement. read more

Once again, while in Statesborough, I found myself seeking my eldest daughter's wisdom regarding local dining establishments, as was the case, with D's Friendly Restaraunt. Foregoing her usual "eat there" or "don't eat there" recommendation, D's Friendly received a highly unlikely "it's ok" rating. This was more than enough to move me to see for myself. Upon entering, the "friendly" in D's Friendly was on full display. A cheerful, but down to earth, waitress immediately took my order, bringing my coffee before the ink on her order pad had time to dry. The tone was set; or, was it? A good cup of coffee, in my experience, often prooves to be a harbinger of the meal to come. In this case, my impression was that I received a warm cup of slightly acidic water. Not unpalateble; but, not what I expected. The menu was surprisingly diverse when it came to breakfast choices (did I mention it was nine AM when I arrived?). In addition to the usual breakfast meats, sausage, bacon, ham, and my choice, steak, you could order chicken or pork chops with you eggs and grits. A plus for variety. Now, as I alluded to above, I ordered the steak and eggs (you get three eggs, cooked as you like) with grits and wheat toast. The wait was quite brief; but, long enough for me to check out the family photos on the wall, alng with pictures of apparent customers, likely past and present. I found this to be a nice, homestyle touch, making the overall experience that muc more pleasant. Before I knew it, there were two plates in front of me; and, I was slicicing my first piece of steak, which I found to be flavorful; but, a bit on the tough side. A dab of A-1 would have helped, had it been offered. The eggs, fried of course, were cooked slightly longer than I would have prefered, leaving a minimal amount of yolk to sop up with my wheat toast. Finally, the grits: no doubt home made, but with just a hint of butter. Before I could ask for an addition pat, I overheard my waitress telling another customer that there was not another stick of butter to be had; so, I settled on what I was given. At just over ten dollars, I left feeling full, yet not fully satsfied. Addmitedly, the experience was far better than one could have at any of many fast food factories in the area; and to me, that makes D's Friendly worth a try. read more

My boyfriend & I are D's regulars & it's our absolute favorite breakfast spot in Statesboro--maybe even Savannah, too! We've definitely driven an hour just to get our go-to veggie omelettes early on a Sunday morning. We pretty much always get the same thing (veggie omelette (the vegetables are AMAZINGLY FRESH & the omelettes are huge), add spinach, fresh sausage (to die for), hash browns, loaded with cheese, spinach & onions, grilled toast), so I can't speak much to their lunch or other items, but everything is insanely fresh, portions are generous & the food is delicious. Writing this review in true compliment sandwich style, there are a few small areas of improvement, but nothing that would ever deter us from returning. Just little things to note. We often have to ask for condiments more than once & our check is ever-so-slightly different each time even though we get exactly the same thing every time. Granted we're 100% those annoying people who add like 5 things a piece, so it's understandable to a degree, but still odd. It's never more than $2-$3 or so, so it's nothing we'll fight over. If you're the type to haggle over $0.50 & your friends wouldn't describe you as patient, you probably will complain about your experience. I humbly ask you to get over it because the food is 2,000% worth it. Also, life is short so consider lightening up a bit ;) The staff is so sweet & helpful, very friendly & familiar. It's a super casual, slower pace, extremely friendly experience, so if you're looking for chain culture or fine dining, this isn't your place. Went to visit my stepson in Statesboro and he said this is THE place for breakfast. So, off we went on a Sunday morning at 9:30AM. It was extremely busy as we expected but luckily we got a table for 3 immediately. There were 2 tables outside which were pet-friendly and around 15 tables inside. Plus around 5 stools at a counter and they were doing lots of to-go orders. It took a few minutes to get menus but understood, since they were busy. The lunch menu on the back looked great too. The choices were extensive and I decided to try something I've never seen on a menu before: country-fried steak with the white gravy, perfectly cooked fried eggs over medium, grits and biscuits. The biscuit had butter on the top and the bottom before being cooked which made it crispy on the outside! It was all absolutely amazing!! $7.69!!! I'm very picky about my coffee but I thought theirs was really good. No it was not Starbucks but it was good. Some places, I just try to get through it for the sake of having my morning cup of coffee. My husband had the More Than Enough Platter. Definitely a large breakfast and only $8.89! My stepson had hash browns and French toast. He said their French toast is the BEST! He's been there several times. The food came out very quickly and at one point the staff all breathed an audible big sigh of relief together when they realized the rush was over. I would be tempted to drive the 90 minutes for breakfast, if I did not already have a reason to be in town. If you are in town for breakfast, this is a must try place! It is a very friendly, locally-owned mom and pop type of place on the corner of a strip center. The owner D was working as well. The decor was diner with framed photos plastered on all the walls and some pages that kids have colored. Customers of every color and age were dining and getting to-go orders. Here we are in the the fall of 2020, with the world as we know it having going sideways---seriously! One of the greatest pleasures is to be able to go to a restaurant again, somewhere that youve enjoyed in the past, and share some time with friends. That's what you can do at D's, which has remained open as long as poossible, and no matter how many customers they get, theyve always had the best attitude and served the best breakfasts and lunches in town. The secret of D's is that you can ask for them to fix what you want just the way you want it...which i do. When my doctors said eat more veggies, watch the fats, and be careful about sugars. I'm able to go to D's and have them throw extra veggies in my omelets which they steam instead of cook in the fake butter/margarine that most places use. If i want some of their wonderful link sausage, really good stuss, or sausage and gravy with a little gravy on their great biscuits, thats what i get. If i feel like a patty melt, or a burger, i get a nice thick one, with whatever trimmings i want on it. The bottom line is this, a meal at D's is almost assuredly going to be a pleasant experience! read more

After GSU graduation we were hungry and decided to come here... Great country breakfast!!! Awesome customer service and it's a family business! The food was BOMB!!! Homemade hash browns, fried fish was hot and well seasoned, and the pancakes are a must try. The syrup had a hint of pecan and made the taste perfect with the pancakes. My daughter had the Philly steak cheese and claims it was the best she ever had, however she's only 15!!! She ate it all before I could give it a second option. LOL They do have a few seats outside. I ordered a veggie omelet which was a paper thin omelette. Veggies were good. Hash browns I ordered with onions were just ok. Hubby had pancakes, eggs and bacon which was just ok.
