Brisket with Hawaiian Rolls and Fries

My boyfriend and I came to Saucehouse before the game and I really enjoyed it. There was free parking in their lot and still spaces even with game day. There were so much staff working so the line moves quick! In fact, we didn't wait at all before being helped. There were a lot of people in the dining area. I ordered the pulled pork on the regular bun and boy did they give me so much meat!! My boyfriend got the brisket with the hawaiian rolls and it was noticeable less meat, but he enjoyed it as well! The fries were deliciously seasoned and so crisp! The fried okra was hot with a light and crispy breading. Saucehouse definitely has the sauces and I tried a few and enjoyed them all dipping my sandwich to try each. A great meal before game day and reasonably priced for bbq!

Loved everything we had here! The brisket, egg rolls, rib tips, collard greens and Mac and cheese were our favorites! The staff is friendly and makes you feel welcome. Fun indoor picnic table and booth seating and cute outdoor space too. Prices are good and food came out fast. The white chocolate bread pudding was off the charts!

I walked in with relatively high expectations from hearing a lot of good reviews. The restaurant itself was slow, not sure why, but heard it gets busy around 7 because of Wednesday trivia nights. Since it was slow, there wasn't a line so that meant I got my food right away. You order and get your food, and then pay at the end of the line. I ordered a BBQ plate with 1/4 lbs of brisket, 2 hawaiian rolls, mac and cheese, and cole slaw with a fountain drink. The total was a little less than $20, which seems fairly reasonable. They have counters with different types of BBQ sauces, and out of the like the 20 types, I got the hot and sweet sauce (it's pretty spicy so get it on the side). Personally, I like my cole slaw with a bit more horseradish, so when I tried theirs it wasn't as good since it was more towards the sweet side. The mac and cheese looks good, but tasted like any other mac and cheese. Now, the brisket also looks good, but lacked seasoning. Sure there was sauce, but it also got cold fast. For $20, I could've gotten more brisket somewhere else and with better quality. Overall, maybe I would come back here for something else or for trivia night, but not for the food.

As I was exploring Athens, GA, I searched BBQ on Yelp! I was sold on a place that speaks volumes to sauceaholics like me. What a great name for a BBQ joint and they certainly had 8 types of sauce! Due to COVID, they have not reopened the restaurant yet, but the bier garten area is open and there is a limited menu. I chose pulled pork sandwich, slaw, potato salad, and sweet tea. The pulled pork sandwich came out with a but that was barely bigger than a roll. But it didn't matter because I was going to sample all the sauces with the roll and eat the pork separately. The pork was excellent as it was tender and had some seasoning to it. There are 8 sauces and I sampled all of them except for the white sauce. My favorites were the Western NC Ketchup (ketchup base with a kick), mustard, and sweet molasses. The House would have been my next as it was their sweet homemade sauce. The next sauce was called Very Hot and Sweet. It was named correctly. It started with a sweet taste then when the sweetness went away, it was all burn on the level of hot. I would rate it a 8 with 10 being super hot. The guy who brought it to me said it is made with the ghost pepper. The sauce has an excellent flavor but you have been warned. The other 2 sauces were the Carolina Vinegar and Pork Sauce. They were both...ehh. Potato salad was your solid mustard base. The slaw needed a little more dicing for my taste but it was the mayo-vinegar style. I added the Carolina Vinegar BBQ sauce to up the flavor. Sweet tea was superb and refreshing. I want to come back when they are offering their full menu. They were actually pretty nice guys too even though I was wearing a Bama hat haha!

Driving thru Athens to Florida and Google led us here! What a superb choice! Great brisket and pulled pork with so many sauce selections. If you're into NC vinegar based sauces, theirs are great! Being newcomers, the FOH manager was so kind to made sure we were familiar with their menu selections, topping options, sides and desserts. Do not pass on the peach cobbler!

My family comes here all the time when in town! The vibes are fun and relaxed and they have plenty of different sauces to choose from! Recommend when getting bbq in Athens!

Great concept. You get a lot of food for the price. At the end of the line are about a dozen different sauces for you to try. The only thing I would suggest is to go at the beginning of the day insta is in the evening. Some food may have been sitting a while which obviously won't taste as good. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a separate set arched bar are.

    Nice bar. And BBQ

That said, fight the traffic and construction weirdness and get your butt in here. I had the georgia peach French toast plate with eggs and bacon. Definitely the best French toast I've had in a long time. One (albeit minor) issue - they said they do "soft scrambled" eggs, but they came out pretty much regular. This is a common issue with pretty much every breakfast restaurant I go to, so no removal of a star. But I'd recommend you tell waitstaff that you don't do soft scrambled if you really don't. Thus is my pain when recounting our visit to Mama's Boy. We stopped here for breakfast before heading out of town on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September. Prior to visiting, I read that the wait here can be a bit intimidating but we lucked out coming on a day when there was an away football game which I think took some folks out of town as we only had to wait about 20-25 minutes. It's a casual joint where you order at the counter (but only after you've been given a table) and the food is bangin'. I was not playing it healthy here, going for the Truck Stop Biscuits & Gravy which was a biscuit topped with sausage gravy, sweet tea brined fried chicken, and topped with scrambled eggs. For my side I went with grits (because when in the south!) and of course I had a refreshing strawberry lemonade to wash it all down with. Everything was excellent. The biscuit was fluffy, the chicken was juicy, the gravy was flavorful...and it was all perfect together. And the grits were so rich and smooth and so very tasty! It was casual service but everyone who we encountered was really lovely. Bless the mama's boys of the world for bringing us such a delicious dining experience!

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.
