Wow finally found a delicious Indian spot downtown I'm excited about! I've been going down the list of Indian restaurants in the east village and they were always lacking. Sathi is officially my fav right now. I was passing by but wasn't ready for dinner so ended up ordering in their prix fix when I got home. Veggie samosas, Shrimp tikka masala, naan and rice. Love their generous portions. The samosas are the size of a baseball, probably the biggest one I've had (that's what she said). The filling was perfectly spiced too! I still have the second one waiting as a snack later. Shrimp tikka masala was so goood. The sauce consistency and flavor is on point. Slight spice kick but I wouldn't call it spicy. And the shrimp were deveined and cooked well. I would say usually Indian places offer seafood options as a meat alternative but the actual seafood is bad..either the fish is smelly or the shrimp isn't cleaned properly so that's my true test of the place. Sathi definitely passed the test as I love their shrimp tikka. Great naan..which was gone within first minutes of me receiving the meal. It was just right with the sauce. The food was really good. I would definitely order the (mild) lamb curry again - it was so tender and flavorful. The pakoras were perhaps the best I've had - substantive soft center with thick crunch. The guys at the table beside me had substituted their rice with naan to eat with their curry, and it looked so soft and fluffy - I wished I had ordered it. I was so impressed by the service. Went to Sathi with a friend because it was close to the venue we were going later that evening. The place is rather small, nicely decorated and nepalese servers are nice. Sadly their momos leave a lot to be desired. They were incredibly spicy, yet tastless at the same time. They were served with 2 types of sauces - one ketchup-like and beyond spicy, another a bit milder but with an unpleasant taste.We love momos and usually get them from tibetan restaurants and food trucks. Sathi is not it. Most memorable was the side show. At the next table, 2 persian women, ordered at least 10 main courses and inhaled them in record time. Impressive! Generous 3 stars, because the ambiance is nice and my friend liked garlic naan and samosas. read more

I'd recommend their Prie Fix menu. It's only a few dollars more than a standard entree and it lets you sample the menu. I'll vouch for the lamb samosa, the chicken biryani and the naan, though if you have a normal sized appetite, you might be better off ordering a dessert then a side. read more

EVERYTHING about this place is AMAZING! The food is delicious, the staff are so hospitable and caring, and the prices are very reasonable. We chose from the prefix dinner which has great options to choose from! We got the vegetable samosa, butter chicken, and raita. We also had the chilly salmon, garlic naan, steamed chicken momo, and the gulab jamun. My absolute favorites were the samosa and the butter chicken! However, they have so many more options available if those aren't your preference. The best Best BEST part of this whole experience was the staff and customer service! The staff are so accommodating to every customer and they are super kind! I really enjoyed everything about this place and it is officially my favorite Indian restaurant in town. Back in the early days of being vegan (90s...I'm OG, errr, OV), hitting up the tiny "half price" joints on 6th Street was a weekly occurrence. I was young, hungry, unable to cook and, of course broke. Here's something embarrassing that I admit to doing: My friend and I would share an entree and then order extra rice, which was free. A bargain at around 8 bucks each with tax and tip. When feeling a bit richer, we'd each order an entree and take half home... with tons of rice. Enough for 2-3 meals! I'd always say, "please leave out the ghee" which they kindly accommodated (I think they thought I was insane but loved us because we were dorky kids who tipped well) but I've come to learn that that many Indian places make the rice with ghee so I've been skipping the rice and then just get butterless naan. NOT AS GOOD. I prefer rice to bread any day. It allows me to eat a lot more of the entree. Guess what Sathi doesn't do? Make their rice with ghee! But that's not the only reason I'm giving them five stars. Sathi is my new favorite Indian place in Manhattan. They are so careful of dietary restrictions and even note what items on the menu are vegan. They were able to accommodate my large group of 13 during a busy lunch (and the place is pretty small, so we took up most of it). Most important, I found that every single thing I tasted was delicious. I started with a perfect lentil soup, followed up with vegan onion pakora and samosas (and devoured at least two pappadam). My entree choice was the chana masala, which is pure vegan decadence! I couldn't stop eating and that is always the case when Indian food is this divine. I couldn't ask for anything more. Sathi stands out as one of the best Indian meals that I've had in a while. The lunch special is where it's at. You get TWO entrees! Chicken tikka or saag paneer with the choice of an additional entree. For the second entree there are several options including seafood, veggies, and chicken. The chicken tikka was delicious. The chicken was very high quality white meat and the sauce was creamy and flavorful. I also ordered a mashed eggplant dish and really enjoyed it. Alongside the entrees you can choose either rice or naan. Both are huge portions. The naan was so fluffy and hot and just perfect. We were in with a large group and they also started us off complimentary fritters and crispy bread with dipping sauces. Only knocking off a star because the service was a bit disorganized in the beginning. They did not have enough seats for our reservation. But it all ended up working out, and it was really nice of them to make up for that with some comped apps. I ordered the lunch special for pick up through the ritual app and the order was ready in 15 minutes. The staff was very helpful and called me and asked if I need any side sauces or extra rice. The price of this restaurant is amazing. The lunch special was 11 dollars and it came with 1 and a half entree, one appetizer, one naan or rice, and one drink! The quantity was also pretty good, I wasn't able to finish it for lunch and I'll be saving the rest for dinner. The paneer tikka masala was also amazing and it can be customized and made vegan as well! The also have a very nice seating area and bar good for groups or date night. They also have an all day special or dinner special which offers one entree, one appetizer, rice, naan, one drink, and one dessert only for 19 dollars. Must visit! read more

This was probably one of my favorite New York meals in a while. I *love* Indian food, and while the restaurant itself was small, crowded, and broiling hot...the food (and service) was so incredibly good, I couldn't get enough. I got... + Samosas (vegan) - they come two to an order, but they're twice as large as any samosas I've seen elsewhere, so #worthit. And they were STUFFED full of potatoes and peas. Nothing quite like the disappointment of biting into something like this, and realizing it's mostly dough or mostly air pockets. Not these. Flavorful, filling, and I was easily won over with the sauce in a heart shape. + Papadams (vegan) - Goodness, I love me some papadams (I can usually eat 8 by myself no problem... or maybe that's a problem, I don't know). I like their crunch, their distinct flavor, and the dipping sauces. Sahti's didn't disappoint. + Onion Pakoras (vegan) - these were the best pakoras I've ever had; I like that they had the consistency of a moist fritter. Melt in your mouth, and if I wasn't in polite company I would have claimed a whole order for myself. + Vegetable Korma (vegetarian) - so this can't be made vegan (something about their almond cashew nut sauce containing yogurt or something?), but this was stupid good. LOADED with veggies like broccoli, carrots, peas, and potatoes... long after I was sweating profusely and my pants had stopped fitting, I kept on eating anyway because I just couldn't get enough. Sathi is no longer new to the neighborhood, but I went when they first opened by Taqueria Gramercy. I am HOOKED. The food is fresh, and I don't think their prices can be beaten in this area of the city. When you look at their lunch special or dinner special prix fixed menus you'll be taken away. I originally went in and expected them to do what every other restaurant does with a prix fixed menu does: Skimp on portions. I was WRONG. Folks, I am a big dude. I can eat. I leave here every time waddling. Like, don't come here if you just want a snack. Or do, I don't run your life. Just know that if you do come, you'll be the snack walking out. I leave stuffed every time. Also, better than their food, is their service: I feel as if Sathi has never sacrificed their service while I'm in there, no matter how crowded they are. Everyone is happy, helpful, and they definitely have earned their repeat customers in the 'hood. If you've walked by and you were curious, do yourself a favor. Go in and give them a try. Order the samosas because they're enormous, and make sure you come in hungry. For less than $10 per person at lunch or $16 per person at dinner, you will walk away SO full and SO happy. read more

I picked up one of the prix fixe dinners for dinner the following night which comes with appetizer, entree, side, no dessert on a 3rd party app. Totally fine since the reviews said the kheer isn't fresh. Comes with a lil rice. I chose onion pakora, chicken tikka masala and I paid extra for dal. We tried one onion pakora later that night, it was good. Smelled really savory, wasn't as salty as I thought it was going to be. Reheated in the pan easily. Chicken tikka masala is all white meat so it was really dry for me but L liked it but he loved the sauce as well. Dal makhani was a bit plain, lacked seasoning. The food is good but not that authentic. I think they tone down the flavors by a lot... I could barely tell it was Indian food. The chicken tikka masala could've been Italian practically. The dal just tasted like healthy lentils. No flavor really. I'm used to Indian food in Jackson Heights so this was pretty bland/boring even though I chose chicken tikka masala. read more

This is an Indian Nepali restaurant with good food and amazing service. If you like to try different curries, this is the place for you!! Their lunch special is a STEAL. $11 for two curries and naan or rice. You can choose the spice level and try so much. It's very filling. I'm Indian so I'm definitely picky when it comes to curry but I really enjoyed the paneer saag and the channa masala curries. They taste very authentic. I can't wait to check out more of the menu. The service there was great. We were brought some pakoras on the house- which were crunchy and delicious. My South Asian friend and I dined here last night. It was my first time here. I used to live the area and walked past this place every night after work but never had a chance to stop and eat because I lived a block away from all the Indian places on Lex. I am glad I tried it because I would totally go back. We shared an order of fried momos (yummy), veggie thali (dal, salad, spinach/some green side, and subzi with rice, papad, and kheer), and we shared a bhindi masala. An all around excellent meal. Love this place! If I lived in this neighborhood it would be a regular go to. It was a busy Saturday night but got seated right away since we made a reservation on Yelp. The waiters and staff were all hustling and working hard. We had the 3 and 4 course prix fixe menu. It was such a good value and food was so delicious. We ordered a chicken curry and chilly salmon. Both really good. The naans were huge and really tasty. A lot of places out there skimp on the portions when you order off the prix fixe menu but this place gave very generous portions for all courses. The alcohol is very reasonably priced too. My friend was visiting abroad and wanted spicy food.. so I found this place. The meat is halal thankfully and we got the chili chicken, lamb and then paneer makhni. Service and ambiance is very cute and the music was so nice and subtle for dinner! We all enjoyed and the chili chicken was definitely spicy. I did end up with an upset stomach about an hour later but the other half of the group seemed pretty ok from the food, so I would say if you are not experimental with spice stay on the safe side of how spicy you make your dishes. read more

When Indian food is not prepared well and is bad it's as bad as food can be. When it truly prepared properly it can be sublime. And sublime is the word for Sathi. We dined there for the first time two weeks ago and were totally blown away. We've been back two times since. We NEVER go to the same restaurant three times in two weeks. It is a tiny restaurant seating perhaps twenty-two or twenty-four people and was crowded each time we went but the conviviality of the crowd and the extraordinary food more than makes up for the lack of room. The saag chicken and saag lamb, the chicken tikka masala, the chicken tikka tandoori - all are the best I've ever tasted. The lentil soup...I could have it every day. Naan, mango chutney, raita all also great. The prices are reasonable and the portions even more so. And the entire team of servers are the loveliest group of people that we've met in a long time. Last night I ordered delivery from Sathi for the second time (in one week), and I am already obsessed. I regret not taking photos of the food... but it was so fresh, fragrant and pretty in both cases that it magically disappeared before I could grab my phone. Standouts for me so far: Lamb biryani: very generous with the lamb, subtly spicy Samosa chaat: literally perfect in every way Coconut naan: I never eat a whole naan- generally my boyfriend and I split one garlic naan when we have Indian. With this coconut variety, I was VERY unhappy to have to share. Will definitely haven to order two next time or there will be blood. read more

Our waiter was really attentive and nice, I don't think I have had such great service in a while. They're super flexible on menu items. Solid Indian spot. Big portions, good service. We had ordered the pre fixe dinner for $21.95, a steal! It included an app, entree, side, and a dessert. My boyfriend and I ended up getting the chicken samosa, butter chicken entree, side of naan, and the kheer for dessert. We also got the lamb Biryani.
