Excellent grilled meat and tandoori dishes--the best on Curry Hill! Attentive service and nice ambience.

Chicken 65 - came with dark brown Manchurian kinda gravy, not sure if they have hired some random intern chef who has not bothered to simply good once to see what a decently authentic Chicken 65 looks like. Zero flavor Haryali kebab- this was shocker, back in the day they honed their kebabs pretty good. This was dry as bone just tossed in zero flavor green chutney. Lamb Madras- Again super dry lamb in some random curry sauce with no bearing to Madras, just tossing some curry leaves tempering does not make a dish Madras-esque. Kadhi Paner: Again same son story, complete lack luster with no true Indian flavor stamp or aroma. Verdict: only reason I am taking effort to put this out is hopefully they bring back the original chef or send the current intern chef to learn from their OG chef. Until then just skip this place, all it's doing is feed us complete misunderstandings of Indian food. read more

Nice lighting .. good service too .. of course it's mostly for visitors and whoever works on NY and hence you can't expect parking here . They also have a full fledged bar with draft beers on tap. They have both veg and non-veg items and i went for a veg lunch special meal . They don't have a full fledged thali , but they give rice , naan, dhal, chole and whatever dish you order with it .. wish they had a dessert added to the lunch special , which would have made it a complete meal :) took them about 10 mins to make food but it was hit and fresh . Spent about 16$ for the email which isn't bad . . I went for bhagara mirchi bhainghan (egg plant ) and it was top notch . Amazing spice and flavor . Dhal was simple and very delicious . Like a Punjabi dhal. Chole was good too. They gave me 3 pieces of naan and it was sumptuous. Couldn't eat much of rice but it was a stomach full meal . Came here with some friends over the weekend, wow what a great experience. Food: unfortunately, I don't have the names of any of the food in front of me, but everything was absolutely delicious. A well-spiced cauliflower dish, slow-cooked chicken, delicious paneer, and garlic naan made for some amazing dishes that also felt extremely light on the stomach. Always Amazing! We've been coming to Chote Nawab since 2011, and honestly, the food just keeps getting better and better! The first Indian place I tried in NYC since moving here and it did not disappoint! I usually come here with large groups after Church, and the service is always super accommodating and attentive which I always appreciate. (Especially for such a large party we bring every time) Food wise, the lunch special is super worth! You pick out of a selection of entrees and get unlimited naan and rice, which absolutely fills all of us up. I like getting the Tikka Masala, which is pretty flavorful and filling in itself. Since this is so close to our Church and accommodating of large groups, this is a regular restaurant I end up frequenting pretty often. Local traditional Indian restaurant that has been in Murray Hill for years. The food has plenty of flavor and there a lot of options to choose from. Servers are great and very attentive. The place has a more modern bright design aesthetic. The only unfortunate part is everything is a la carte so it does add up quickly. Came here for a quick lunch with a friend on a weekend. Ordered a few dishes, samosa, rice and naan bread to share, it was so good. My fave is the murg saag - seems they use dark chicken meat rather than white meat so it's nice and tender. The Palak Paneer was also tasty. Service was good and the restaurant is nice and clean. My friend and I were craving Indian cuisine, so we headed to Curry Hill. We came across this cute little restaurant and took part in the lunch special. This included entree, bismati rice, veggies, and naan. I also had a Mango Lassi, which was delightfully creamy and thick, as well as sweet with fresh taste of mango. For my main course, I selected the Salmon Tikka, which was served sizzling on a cast iron plate. There were also onion, red and green peppers alongside the fish. The salmon was absolutely delicious... Tender, juicy, slightly crisp and well seasoned. I enjoyed the vegetables, as they were tasty with a bit of char. The veggie dishes were also really good. One was lentils and the other consisted of potatoes, chick peas, peas. Both were full of yummy spices and perfectly cooked. I wanted to try the garlic naan, but the lunch special is only served with regular naan, which was actually so well made. It was wonderfully warm, buttery, and soft. Service was lovely. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I would be open to returning at some point. read more

I give the place a 2 overall as some of the dishes miss the mark. However I'd give the biryani dishes a 4. The chicken tikka isn't very flavorful and dry. The naan bread came out 10 minutes after the entrees which is annoying as you are supposed to eat it with the dishes. We ordered a lamb kebab which we were told was very popular but it ended up being a minced patty like a thin hamburger fried on a flattop. Nothing "kebab" about that. I feel like naming it a kebab is misleading or that the server should or the menu should have mentioned it. Second time I went there my friend got a bite of food with some steel scouring thread in it. We pointed it out to the staff who apologized for it but they didn't really seem to care. When we asked for the bill they didn't apologize or acknowledge that we had metal bits in the food. This stuff happens but a little more acknowledgement or apology would be nicer than pretending it didn't happen read more

First time here and my experience overall was exceptional. Everything was delicious and the service was very friendly and attentive. They checked to make sure that everything was to my liking and that the spice level of the lamb madras was good. I could've gone spicier, but it was very good as it was. They made a rose lassi for me with less sugar at my request that was excellent. The masala chai was not my favorite, but it was good. The paratha was excellent but different than I expected. I'm used to getting a flatbread, but this was almost like a paratha nest. It was absolutely delicious though. They brought two complimentary rolled papadum with the tamarind and coriander chutneys (which were excellent) before the main dish was served. My only significant complaint is that the main dishes don't come with any rice. If you want a side of rice, it's a minimum of another six dollars plus tax and tip for plain basmati rice and a few dollars more if you want it seasoned with some cumin or other spices. It always seems very stingy to me when restaurants charge extra for some rice. Rice is so cheap. Considering the main dish was $26 I would think it could come with some rice. But maybe I'm just old and haven't gotten used to the post Covid prices. Overall, it was a really great experience and great meal though. The ambience is very nice as well. I don't usually care much about that but it's a bonus when it's nice. read more

Been here twice in as many weeks which is saying a lot in a city like NY with an appetite for new experiences like mine. We sat down the road a bit but walked out for one reason or another and decided to just grab an outdoor seat here at Chote; we were quickly and ever so politely greeted and offered drink which of course we obliged. The three of us got the chicken tikka and myself the lamb rogan josh, the sauces were solid, delicious, not oily (and not actually solid; very delightful and saucy) The garlic naan was an absolute dream; the service was good and the food was delightful; not only that but it wasn't a fortune as one may expect now a days ordering Indian. The second "visit" was delivery and they honored every note and request as elegantly and wonderfully as the fantastic souls they are. Truly humble and grateful place that's so rare to find. For these reasons it's one of my favorite places. Is it the absolute best I've had? No, but it's quite good and well worth every penny. As I started saying, tonight we got delivery straight from their website (which you can apply 10% off) and it was here exactly when they said it would be, hot n fresh. (Slightly spilled). The peshwari naan was frighten amazing, the lamb biryani was a win, the pickles were pungent, hot, and strong as they should be. A good portion for all. The tikka masala was great too. I ordered the Lamb Saag from the lunch menu, and a King Fisher beer. There was so much food! I ate till I was completely satisfied, and still have enough to bring home for another meal! Nice new gem in Murray Hill. Seems to be flying under the radar right now, pretty easy to get a reservation. Would come again. Food (5/5) - Greasy but none of the sauces broke, and everything was very well spiced. Do not come with people who can't really hold spice... We got the papri chaat - great texture, very crispy. Spicy, sweet, tangy. Huge plate of it too, kind of like a salad to share. Got pretty full after this. It was my friend's father's favourite dish and he was very satisfied with how it tasted. Then got the saag paneer and murgh 65. Both great flavours, and the sauces were very smooth. The roti + garlic naan we got to share were also very filling, warm and not overly crispy or dry. Mango lassis were great. Good texture - thick but didn't get stuck in the straw. Sweet enough but didn't taste artificial. Price (4/5) - It's a little on the pricier side but how good the food is makes up for it. Good for larger groups. Portions were also large - we had leftovers of everything and we went in pretty hungry. Ambiance (5/5) - A little on the quiet side but good for a low-key dinner. We went to Chote Nawab for lunch today with family. Like all other places in New York they checked our vaccination card and ID. Once verified we were seated in a comfortable area. The interiors are nice and fresh. We ordered a number of dishes including saag paneer, eggplant dish, cauliflower appetizer, mushroom appetizer, borh yellow and black dals, rumali roti and garlic naan. We also ordered the mango lassi which was delicious. Overall the food was fresh and tasty, not overly spiced, not bland. The service was grear, servers checked on us regularly and were prompt in their response. We enjoyed our experience and the food was great, would recommend this place for folks looking for a quick and casual Indian dinner on Lexington street. read more

Had lunch here today and ordered biryani and zafarani korma with naan. All the food was terribly cooked and still after four years since my last review it changed for the worst. The naan was like burnt paper and the biryani was just colored rice completely flavorless and a total disappointment. A fantastic find on Curry Hill! We wanted a nicer place thar served alcohol, so we came here despite the mediocre reviews. I honestly don't know why the reviews aren't better- our food was awesome, cocktails were delish (and strong), and the service was prompt and pleasant. I had a chicken Tikka rolled up sandwich (like a burrito) that comes with lettuce and a creamy sauce that was 5 stars all the way. SO GOOD. It was a huge portion and I could only finish half. Hubby had a lamb curry that he enjoyed (with leftovers!). I had a lychee martini that was excellent. Not too sweet, and potent. Ordered delivery via Caviar app. The restaurant had a variety of naan bread selections, which most of them I have never seen so I gave one of them a try. I got the Keema Lamb Naan, which has minced lamb meat in the naan and comes with a meat dipping sauce. It was an interesting item, but it wasn't for me. I also got the Lamb Dum Biryani as my entree. Definitely fooled by their marketing with the Biryani in a bread bowl, shame on you. The rice itself was super inconsistent throughout. Some spots the rice is still white and bland, another spot would be flavorful, and another spot would be overpowered with spice. Not really sure if that's now "dum" is supposed to be because of the way it's made, but I wasn't a fan of it. read more

The portions are huge- my lunch special served me for 2 meals. What I really like is they offer vegan options. Unfortunately it's hard to find that at many spots so I was happy to be able to find it. Really bad experience. Tasted like cafeteria Indian food. The vegetables were over cooked and were mushy, the sauces were overdone , meaning if they had butter they had waaay too much butter added.. Even no spice dishes were spicy. Food was just mushy gloppy masses. Best thing was the roti bread which I assume was store bought and not made fresh there. We barely ate the starters and main dishes. I ordered a to go order and got three of the cakes: lemon, strawberry and mango. So worth it! It's so delicious, sweet, and soft. The picture doesn't do it justice - my elderly father accidentally turned it upside down. I highly recommend this place - not many Indian restaurants have these cakes. We for a date with my now wife 4.3 years ago but was reminded by going for today's MealPal of Vegetarian Kebab Platter. For both, 4-stars which means very good but not the tippy top. Meaning, in Little Bangladesh terms, very solid, worth recommending. I forget that meal 4.3y ago other than it was stellar service and quality. Today's meal which I have afront me albeit eaten without photo was 4 parts: entree of roasted slightly burnt vegetables (3 large caulkflower, bunches of onions in varying degrees of roasted, green bell pepper slices; all with some cheese thin dipping here and there), large thick naan in hot foil wrap, small box of basmati rice (salty, too, a new thing), and saag paneer (spinach with Indian cheese-based creaminess). MealPal says it's a large portion retailing for $14.50 (!) and I agree. It's a quality dish which is good quality and rather filling, good value for money, always excellent reliability (i.e. service upon pickup). Location is, as always, easy at Lex & 28, super easy from 6/R/W trains all. Interior design is unchanged from years ago and maintained very well with modern floor-to-ceiling windows, modern chic tables, and a full bar with comfortable padded bar stools. Staff are happy so the customers are happy. read more

We ordered food for takeout from this restaurant. Thinking that this place was on Indian Street, the food had to be authentic but it just wasn't. All the dishes seemed to be muted in their flavor and lacked salt. It was like I was eating bland curries. We ordered Dahi Murgh, Veg Manchurian (Gravy), Roomali Roti, Garlic Naan, Chicken Lollipops, Vada Pav and Jalebi. Dahi Murgh had very mild flavor and lacked salt. It was not at all made with Dahi (yogurt), instead the entire gravy was only heavy cream, so be ready for your cholesterol levels to shoot up. Veg Manchurian (Gravy) has decent flavor, properly the best out of all the dishes we ordered but this dish had no gravy what so ever. I mean the name of the dish has "gravy" in it, then how can you not give any gravy and just give dry manchurian balls?! Chicken Lollipops had such a thick coating of flour on them that it seemed like I was just eating fried flour and the chicken was no where to be found. They were dry and flavorless too. We had high expectations from the Vada Pav because it's quite simple to make and I make them at home all the time. They are supposed to be spicy but these weren't spicy at all. But if you eat them with green chutney, it's still better and aren't as bad. The Roomali roti was also wrong. It was just plain tawa roti that they gave us. Roomali Roti doesn't look or taste like that. It is thinner and a bit stretchy. But probably the worst item from our order was the Jalebi. I'm not sure what flour they had used but it was the wrong flour. It tasted weird, wasn't crispy at all and I think they forgot to dip it in sugar syrup so it wasn't sweet AT ALL too.
