This restaurant had been my go to place for a year during my college days. The food tastes delicious, absolutely affordable and they have a great deal if you are their regular customer. Ask for a card which you need to get it punched every time you have a meal from them. Every 7th meal is free if you have had 6 meals from them. Let's go to reviewing their food now. I used to love going to the Sarku Japan in my hometown when I was a kid. When I saw that there was a Sarku Japan in the mall, I wanted to relive my childhood memories of Americanized Japanese food. Located inside the food court of the mall, there's plenty of seating. There wasn't a line when I came up to make my usual order: teriyaki chicken with noodles, extra chicken. Within a few minutes, I was handed my order. Not as instantaneous as the busy location back home, but it's to be expected when it's not busy and there's only one guy behind the counter. I think the guy was a bit too generous on the sauce (sugar, soy sauce, oil) that he lathered on top. Other than the copious sauce, it tasted like your typical chicken teriyaki from a fast food place. My biggest gripe was actually that the boxes they use for your meal are a bit smaller than what they give you from other locations. If you're in the mood for something indulgent and vaguely Japanese, Sarku Japan is a good bet. read more

The food here is reasonably priced and tastes delicious. Your food is made immediately upon ordering. It is cooked mongolian style so you can actually see your food being cooked on the grills. No surprises in your food. It takes about 5 minutes for your food to be prepared, but the portions are big and the food is steaming hot when you get it. I ordered the soba noodles with vegetables. The order was a half size but was still a lot of food. I also ordered the soba noodles with teriyaki chicken. This order was a full order and was more food than I could eat! If I could give them a zero stars I would. They have roaches. I was standing in line after just paying and there was a few people in front of me. I saw something move on the glass where they cook the meat, I shifted my body to see better and then the girl in front of me started screaming. I got a better look at it as it crawled on there side of the glass and then went to into where the food is on the grill thing. It was 100% a decent sized roach. And so we immediately asked for our money back and they tried to say no and totally disregarded the roach issue as if it's a normal occurrence for them. Eventually they gave us our money back. So the people that are working here really make the place unpleasant, I went during lunch hour on Valentine's day and since I have a new phone I have my 1.99 code and the guy didn't want to stamp the card. Saying some BS that it cost $1 to stamp and that he'd already done something for my husband so I'm good(WTF?) I think he keeps all of them and hands it out to his friends. This chain is quite popular. Some people like it, some don't. It's fast food in a mall foodcourt so don't expect anything fancy. Plus, it's pretty cheap so it appeals to the masses. Over the years there's been a noticeable change in the original taste, and again, some like it, some don't. For me personally, it depends on the location. The one at White Marsh Mall has gotten too bland and too generic for me. I like the one in Towson Mall better. Plus, this location has the Bento box option. For a dollar difference, you get either the beef or chicken teriyaki over rice or noodles, with a small side of salad, four pieces of sushi (with the ginger, soysauce, and wasabi), and three pieces of dumpling. The teriyaki serving is generous for a bento box, I couldn't even finish it. The sauce at this location is more flavorful in my opinion. Don't forget to ask for the rewards card which gives you free chicken teriyaki after five purchases. When you're starving, craving for Asian food, and on a budget, this place hits the spot. read more

For take out, it's pretty good. I usually get the Chicken Teriyaki Daily Special with a side of fresh veggies (shredded cabbage, broccoli, and carrots). As others have noted, they do kind of skimp on the meat and veggies, though. Sooooo, you will end up with a mound of rice by the end of your meal. However, you can spend like an extra $1.50 for more meat and $0.50 for more veggies. I've tried their sushi, and it tastes good, too. If I'm in the mood for a little more than chicken, I'll get that, too. When I stop by the mall, I tend to get food from here to avoid buying heavier, fatty meals. All in all, they're not bad so try them for yourself to make your own opinion about them. read more

My boyfriend and I just order one plate: double meat, 1/2 rice 1/2 noodles. It comes to about 8.50. Great value for lunch for two people. The chicken is tender, juicy, but sometimes you get a weird chewy chunk. The beef is thinly sliced, not as juicy as the chicken. The veggies are mostly just cabbage and a few tiny slices of broccoli. Definitely ask for extra sauce. Based on my observations, Sarku is KILLING THE COMPETITION in the food court. The only other place as busy is probably Chik-Fil-A. I got chicken and shrimp with lo mein and fried rice with veggies mixed on Wednesday 10/6, and the next morning, I had diarrhea. I ended up not being able to get consistent sleep the next night due to diarrhea. And the following morning, I visited an urgent care who recommended that I go to the ER. I went to the ER and was told that it could be a bacterial infection. I've had diarrhea since Thursday morning, and it is now Sunday 10/10, and I still have diarrhea. The food prepared right confront of you has always given me a sense of okay I see what your doing. Yes the food is good but the employees aren't very good at business. I was given a loyalty card which they continued to stamp long after it had expired. By the time I wanted to redeem my coupon for a free meal they wouldn't take it because it had expired. I asked them why they didn't give me a new one the last time I was here. I can't believe I'm giving 5-stars to a booth in a food court in a mall. So disappointing... as a foodie... but at the same time, as a foodie, the food here is always so tender, fresh, hot, and delicious. This is a widely spread chain, so they have a proprietary blend of marinades and source of meats/vegetables, sauce recipes, etc. It is the same everywhere. But this place moves fast and delivers consistently delicious food every time. Ask for a "Frequent Eaters" card. I think it's a "Buy 7 and get your 8th meal free" card. Ask for extra teriyaki sauce. I don't know what's been happening to Sarku locations lately. It seems that the quality of food and customer service has gone completely down hill. This location has got be the rudest set of employees I've encountered out of all the other Sarku locations I've been. If I could give those con artists a zero star I would. I had on those cards where if you keep coming back to order they give you stamp and after 5 stamps you get free chicken teriyaki. On the reward card I already had 3 stamps. So my boyfriend used the card and brought his food while I shopped. When he paid for his food and gave the male cashier the card to stamp the cashier never gave him the reward card back. So by the time I was done shopping and ready to order, we noticed the card was missing and told the now woman cashier what happened and she told me no she could do anything and wouldn't even go get the man took my boyfriend's order from the back. This is a nice place to visit for a quick meal if you are at the mall. I enjoy the Teriyaki Chicken (with double the sauce). The food is cooked in front of you and its made to order.
