This is what I wrote some 5 years back about this place! But now I am changing my review to 5 stars after my today's (Saturday February 24, 2024) visit! To know why, read on starting with my previous review with lone star! "No star. Should have been negative star possibility but not there, otherwise would have given minus 5 stars! Way more pricey for the quality and quantity. I am from Chennai, the birthplace of the chain. Food quality has clearly deteriorated even there. Here, this is a franchise and am not sure how sincerely they will be maintaining the standard, if at all they have one! I don't think I will go again! Sorry, not an ideal Choice for any! The above review is on the day HSB started in Delta. On 28 Jun 2019, again I visited this place with my family! This time for a change, the food was ok. But...there was so much waiting after placing the order! And there was so much confusion! Out of 5 items we ordered, first one was delivered in 5 minutes and the second one in 10. 3rd and 4th arrived after 30 minutes, and with so much follow-up with several staff who were loitering here, there, everywhere. 5th item nowhere in sight yet after 40 minutes!! But then a hilarious thing happened! They brought the 1st item again!!! Taste is good but both production and floor management were terrible! My uttappam was utterly undercooked with raw batter still gooey at the centre! Potatoes in the masala Dosa was prepared in hurry and there were uncooked chunks in between! If you can be patient and tolerant, then go for it! God save you and your time! And there will be hilarious and confusing moments guaranteed!" I visited this place with my partner after almost 5 years (last one was on June 28, 2019) and this is my third visit today - February 24, 2024. My opinion, rating and review have completely changed taking a 180 degrees turn from the previous one star to 5 stars! What made me to do that? First of all the welcoming ambiance. Secondly, the professionalism that was demonstrated in quickly receiving and seating the guests! Thirdly, the courtesy and politeness displayed all through the whole session of our meals! Special mention goes to Sheetal! Fourthly, being transparent about the final bill by asking to check the bill and explaining the fact that there is a 10% gratuity already included but as we are only 2 people, we have the option to get the 10% removed. It is mandatory only for a group of 6 people and above! Up till here, already 5 stars! We had been to them for their weekend buffet special at CAD 18.99 plus GST 5%. And when it came to the buffet spread, we were really enthralled at the variety and choices. There were in all some 27 items on the buffet table plus 2 more by way of table serving namely dosa and poori served hot to your table! So, in all 29 items. Even a spoonful of each item filled our tummy twice as much as have normally though it's a brunch - both breakfast and lunch combined - we wouldn't have eaten this much! When it comes to the quality - visual appeal, smell, taste and the arrangement - every thing scores way beyond our imagination and liking! There should have been an army excellent chefs, cooks and above all a manager must have been in place. We also saw Kalpana, the floor manager constantly moving and driving the workforce and we also saw the overall Manager Natarajan paying regular visits to the floor! We could see the whole place is full and bursting at seams, though it has an ample seating area. What was striking was the demographics of the customers. They were all from every part of the world, not only from India! Things have certainly improved a great deal and we could see a sea change in every aspect of managing this place! Our congratulations to the entire team from the top to bottom and wish everything stays the way it is now! Wish the whole team all the best! Our group had craving for dosas and picked this place as we were traveling there over the weekend. First they don't have ala carte on weekends so we ended up with having the buffet. The buffet had rice varieties from every southern state - curd rice, plain rice, bisibele baath, soya pulao/biryani, and then baby idlis and baby uthapams. For the curries they had only 1 mix veg, that was sweet and creamy, and chhole. There were couple of chutneys. For dessert they had gulab Jamin and kesari( sheera). Tricky part- food was running out, and getting cold, restocking was slow. You pick the idlis and the sambar is out. You come for the sambar and the uthapams and idlis are cold. The puris and dosas are to be served at the table, and then you brought the sambar and chutney and chhole at the table and the dosas and puris never made it for 15 mins, and all the food in your plate is cold. How much rice can you have? Finally when the dosa was brought in apologetically was burnt bitter. The poor server had to apologize and offer free coffee. Overall this was far from our desire to have simple South Indian dosa meal. I'd stay away from the buffet for sure. read more

Great place for comfort food. Honestly all I get is the thali and not even the deluxe thali and its more than enough food. Some of it is super spicy so be aware of that. Plaza has plenty of parking. Can't comment on buffet. read more

Best South Indian Sunday buffet ever!! The carrot beans poriyal, cut aloo dry curry and vendaka mor kozhambu were absolutely excellent. The service was also very good. Saravanaa Bhavan, Delta serves Vegetarian Indian Buffet on Weekends ( 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM). A good restaurant to try out idly, vada, pongal, sambar rice, curd rice, regular rice, kesari etc. Dosa and Puris are served to the table. Most of the times, the plates are taken promptly once you are done with eating. The place is generally neat and clean, including the restrooms. The only downside I see is, they do add gratuity, without asking you, when the come with the bill. My party had 4 people. They do mention that gratuity is already added to the bill and if you want they would take it out. However, I think it's a wrong practice. I have seen restaurants add gratuity to a part of 6 or more, which is understandable. However, generally for buffets, I do not know how many restaurants follow this practice. The parking was not an issue at the time we visited. It was almost 2 pm on a Saturday. read more

Went in for the weekend buffet and it's so so so good!!! Fresh and delicious. Veggies in coconut curry was my favourite. They serve you fresh dosas on your table and rest is on the buffet. Their filter coffee is amazing too. They had two types of sambar : thali sambar and tiffin sambar both were so delicious. We took 2 breaks and ate like there's no tomorrow!!! Must go if you are around on weekends. $15.99 per person and very very worth it! read more

I liked Saravanaa Bhavan in India and got excited to find them in Vancouver. We went there for lunch and opted for buffet which was $15.99 plus tax (weekend price). They had a decent spread but sambhar and desserts were the highlights for me. I just wish that they open a restaurant in Seattle aa well :) read more

There was pinch of spice at this location before which was a good restaurant in terms of taste of food n service . But to my disappointment , this new venture started here has no quality of pinch of spice. The decor n seating is almost same. Lets just talk about food as thats primary rating reason for a restaurant. No good at all. Ordered 2 dosas. Cheese chilly n masala onion. Cheese chilly was mozzarella cheese in dosa with some fresh green chillies. What?. Other pizza had big onion chuncks then finely chopped onions with potatoes. Serving of samber was too less. Infact there was adfitional $1.50 for another bowl of samber. Really? Shirley temple was a disaster too. I have never ever drank such a unpresentable and tasteless drink. They really need to have a professional bartender n not a drink mixer. Nothing against servers but they need professional training . Buffet has limited timings during day. No buffet after 5:00 pm n there is limit of 45 mins to eat buffet. I just wish them luck to survive in surrey. They might be a global chain( according to the pamphlets) but surrey is a hub for indian food. For me ''mayuri " is all time best for south indian food. read more

Amazing! We went for dinner at HSb today and just seeing the same colors of HSB Tamil Nadu got us I to nostalgia. Ambience and decor was great. Less crowded when we went in. Ordered mini idlis, Sambar vada, onion rava, ghee paper masala and coffee Sambar was as authentic as possible, it's the best. Onion rava was absolute bliss... Came piping hot. Ghee paper masala was good too, I thought it had become warm by the time we got to it. Coffee as usual great!! Definitely calls for another visit. Our host Aman was also very sweet, she made sure to keep asking if the dishes were good. First time to this Indian restaurant... my dad saw a commercial on TV so the whole family went out for dinner! Decor was authentic, made me feel like I was at a nice restaurant in Delhi. All the patrons were Indian... so you know the food has got to be delicious!! We got there on a Sunday around 5:30 pm and although the service staff was painfully slow, they were very sweet, seemed mostly inexperienced. The food is the reason I would come here again...we ordered some appies- the potato bando was my favourite, for dinner I enjoyed the vegetable masala dosa... one of the best I've had and for dessert the gulag jaman were warm, tasted like the ones your mom makes, yummy! Extremely unsanitary. Within an hour of eating eating there I got a staph infection on the back of my leg from the bench seat. I was wearing shorts so my bare skin came in contact with the seat which clearly never gets cleaned or sanitized properly. The back if the seats were visibly dirty with smears all over the back of them. I noticed it immediately as I was being seated. The staff wiped the table with a dirty cloth and the table was sticky and gross. Health and safety standards are definitely not being followed here. read more

Interesting to get the different viewpoints. We found the service here to be very good, considering 1)it's a busy place and 2) it's a buffet place -- or at least that's the reasons why many people go there on weekends. As for the food, the spice levels were all over the place so trial and error is necessary if you've never been there. There were several dishes that were outstanding though. We went for the Sunday brunch buffet and I overate out of desire to cram extra helpings of my favorite dishes. Next time, we'll go on truly empty stomachs and a lot of time. read more

I had ordered the special of the day 2 for 1 dosa on Wednesday special and heard from friends it was great place .but when ordered the dosa were too small portions and they didn't give me enough sambar and when asked for more they said was $3 more for extra bowl. Also when I received bill in ending they had added extra cost because my dosa was asked to have hot chillies and they put it in but added for it .50 more though was outrageous. I came with my friend for a buffet time and loved it. The food is a good price for a buffet. Everything is vegetarian and i have never had food for many Indian restaurants before so i tried. Taste is very different. Different curries are spicy and sweet and Also, whole restaurant is huge and very beautiful lovely decorations!! Huge entrance hall with upstairs area and downstairs and i think they have separate seating place is you want to rent. I saw the bar, in the middle part of restaurant, and it also looked so nice. The bar area is Sparkly and has lots of neon lights, also big and lots of seats near it , would be great to rent area for a party or wedding. I was so excited to come here after waiting nearly 2 years for the Canada border to open. This was my favorite place to come for Sunday lunch. I don't know what happened but the quality has gone way down. The food in the buffet was watered down and some were badly in need of seasoning. Some were even overcooked. My husband asked to be seated at a different table and the staff refused saying "this table your at is fine." If it was, we wouldn't be asking to be moved. There is no effort for customer service here. The basic attitude from the staff is "give us your money, eat fast, and leave." The food isn't worth it to endure that attitude and the stink eye if you're taking too long. I'm sad to say I'll probably never go back. read more

Came for first time after hearing great reviews about Dubai location. Server said there was big back order in kitchen, we patiently waited... a long time. Food was blah. Better South Indian restaurants in surrey. The portions were small. The coffee came out cold. Many men servers came after to make sure food was okay. I asked if appetizer was spicy for kids, server said "not at all", it came out filled with chili's . It's not her fault as she said servers don't try the food. I'm glad I checked it out. I love the variety of sambar, subzi, curries, chuntneys and unlimited dosa and puri. I dislike how long it takes to get fresh dosa and puri when you are already eating. We always have to wait so long and it seems that they always go to the top of the restaurant first then bottom so depending where they seat you is when you get them....poor planning and attention in my opinion. Last time we were there, we had all our curries and they took so long to bring dosa, they only brought 1. We shared it and waited another long while before they brought only 2 more and no puri. There is so much staff they should pay attention to this and make sure you have. We asked so many times for more and it still took long or we got the last of what they brought out. read more

No Employee here seems to care. The cooks don't wear masks, I didn't see anyone wash their hands. Employees constantly take their masks off. Customers walk around with no mask and the employees don't say anything. The ambience was annoying. There was no music and an annoying beeping. Servers will answer the phone while talking to you at the table. The food was bland. The worst thing was the bathroom. The womens bathroom has 4 stalls but only 2 open. Both stalls were disgusting and had no toilet paper. Management Needs to get their shit together. I will not be back even though my fiancée loves this place. read more
