Golgappas are one of the Indian street foods that gives you some really bad cravings. And so I went to Apna chaat house shop kinda restaurant where you can experience the authentic way of having Golgappas. This is in Surrey and they also have a full dine in restaurant just beside this shop. This shop has 6 different water flavours, mango, hing, mixed, sweet, mint and guava. You can choose your own Golgappas be it suji, normal or aata made. My favourite was mixed water out of all on aata golgappas. Hing flavour was strong, guava was mild. We took full plate which was quite expensive for some of the golgappas pieces. Water was really chilly so beware of that. But I can say to some extent your cravings will be satisfied. Service is okay, ambience is good - reminds us of India and how we used to stand and get Golgappas in small bowls- but it's on pricey end . Used to be a fan of the food, but not anymore. Past few experiences were bad ordered takeout, went for dine-in today. The food was so bad, still gave the benefit of doubt until one item tasted weird and bad , after we pointed it out we were told that they checked and that is not possible cause they had no other customer complain about it. Service entirely sucked. Staff was not friendly or welcoming at all. The person who was at register, had such a bad attitude, and they didn't even mention anything about it. If you are looking for Indian comfort food, this is the place to be. The last time I went there was more than 2 years ago when they were just a small diner in Surrey. They recently took over a bigger space and is now a proper restaurant with amazing music, a photo bhoot and great additions to their menu. For drinks we got their cold coffee with ice cream (5/5) and their sweet lassi (4/5). We also got their Chinese Bhel (something you only get on the streets of Mumbai ironically) which was amazing but not as spicy. It was crunchy and tangy. Their volcano masala pav with cheese was delicious and very filling!! It was very similar to the ones you get in Mumbai. Their Ragda pattice (fried potato pancakes with chickpea gravy) was also 5/5. Best part about Apna Chaat House - their customer service!! We got our food within 5mins of placing our order and it was all fresh. When I told my server how impressed I was with their fast service, she said it is because there are multiple kitchen that handle different food departments to make sure the food is served fast enough.. It's still my fav Indian street food yet it's in Surrey so don't have a chance to frequent it as much as I probably would if it was closer. My paneer kathi roll is still delicious except inflation is real as it is almost twice the price and the masala fries are now an add on when they used to be included and the quantity of the Kathi roll has become smaller in size. Their chai is delicious, I keep asking which tea leaves they use but it's a house blend which means it's a secret. Tried to come eat here and failed. Looks like there's a health order closure (June 2020) at this point. Interestingly enough, a guy (I assume he's the owner) came out and directed us to Showshaa (a similar but more upscale establishment), which is just a few doors down. Guessing he owns that place too. Apna Chaat House is my absolute favorite place to get chaat in the Vancouver metro area. I've only been twice but I've decided this is true as literally everything is so so good you can't help but be excited for the next time you'll eat it. The misal pav specifically is so unique and absolutely delicious. The golgappa's spice is also right on par with what I want and we really enjoy sharing it. It's hard to mess chili paneer up but even harder to make a memorable one and this one definitely is it. Everything is good here! This place has two units so I guess it has expanded. It can be confusing on the ordering system. Basically you place your order at the cashier first and they will tell you where to sit and give you the number stand. I guess there have been complaints about the slowness of food being served so there is a big notice saying food is prepared at the order it received and that it can take 20 mins or longer. I don't think it's true. I ordered the Punjabi mix chaat and gulab jamun. The chaat came pretty quickly but the gulab jamun took about 20 minutes after I received my chaat. So I was just sitting there, twiddling my thumbs, watching the staff scurried around. It was busy even at 3pm. Constant stream of people leaving and coming in. The Punjabi mix chaat was cold which I did not expect. Very yummy though. It was spicy, sweet and tangy. Very flavorful and tasty. Gulab jamun was always my guilty pleasure. Also very good but super sweet. A small pitcher of water would be brought to your table so you can help yourself to water. I will be back to try more things, they all look pretty good. read more

Amazing experience eating here for the first time this afternoon. The owner of the place is very friendly and his passion for good, authentic food shows in the way he runs his restaurants (he also runs Showshaa The Modern Taproom). Another aspect of good business practices is that they care about the environment. The tableware used is 100% recyclable and earth-friendly. Now, coming to food, I wish I had ordered everything from the menu. Indian street food is a rare find outside of India but Apna Chaat brings the best of the best from Indian gullies. The best part about it is that most items are vegetarian and can be made vegan. We ordered Vada Pav without butter, Samosa Chaat and Veggie Szechuan Kathi Roll after enjoying a round of Gol Gappe at a separate counter. Brings back memories of growing up in India. The service isn't that good either. For the ambiance, there are two locations of this place in the same complex, and this is a smaller one with standing live Pani Puri station. Fantastic Indian food at very affordable prices. My favorites here are: Kheema Pav, Chole Kulcha, Wada Pav and Egg Bhurji Pav. Also tried the chicken lollipop which was Okay. The pani puri here is served Indian style at a counter, the pani puri itself wasn't special, but loved the authenticity of the way it was served. The wait times here can be really long, but it is worth it. Tip: If you are ordering Wada Pav to go, make sure you check if they included the Wada with the pavs. We once had a large order of Wada pavs to go and they sent only pavs with no Wada.
