I was excited to find the Kerala restaurant in Surrey. It's rare that we find authentic Kerala food in States. It's a small restaurant with around 40 people capacity. The interiors are done in a nice way to give the Kerala ambiance. Their menu has so authentic dishes. Since I was there in the afternoon, picked up the food as takeout instead of dining in. Picked up Prawns Biriyani, Kerala Parotta and beef ularthiyathu. While we waiting there ordered the fresh lime soda to beat the heat. Service was very good. Staffs were knowledgeable about the Kerala food even though they have no connection to Kerala. Very pleasant experience. Coming to the food, the prawns biryani was bang average. Lacked the flavor I was looking for - didn't feel it's authentic. The beef ularthiyathu was very good - spicy and flavors reminded me the authentic food. The parotta was good, but still felt that it was not freshly made. Wants to try more options when I go there next time. But the first experience was very average!

    Location

I recently visited this place at Scott Road. I ordered masala dosa, and dahi vada. Dahi Vada was too much sour and Masaladosa was really good. Service was fast and ambiance was OK.

    Puttu and kadla curry

Proper Kerala restaurant. Ordered in Malayalam and listened to Malayali music. Has puttu and kadla curry, Both were very good. Will return tomorrow. Worth a trip up from Seattle area where sadly there's only Kathakali which isn't very good.

There is not specially Kerala food; they should change the name. Average North Indian food items were served.

They need alot of work to be in the lead. Maybe they are surviving on home delivery option as they donor have occupied seats all the time. No lunch hour rush or dinner delights. Specials are on some days. Gobhi manchurian is the only yummy dish on menu. Dosa is not as good as Mayuri's . Didnt get to eat all food on menu so cant suggest much.

Nice place to try out kerala delicacies. A little bit spicy side, nevertheless the taste is top notch

    Kerala Fried Fish

My brother had dined at this place a number of times and raved about their food. Well, a few days ago, I was in Surrey and decided to try it out. The server was friendly and explained the menu patiently. We chose our meals and waited eagerly to be delighted! The Vadas were freshly fried, crispy on the outside and steaming hot. Accompanying chutneys were excellent and tasty. Our meal was Kerala Fried Fish, Kerala Prawn Curry, Rasam, Beef Ularthiyathu, Kerala Paratha (some dishes come with rice). Each item was authentic, flavourful and freshly made. This was by far one of the best dining experiences I have had, of Indian food, in a very long time. I have a hard time dining at ethnic restaurants that all taste the same "McDonald-ized" The owner/chef has got it right, portion size is just enough and priced economically. Many restaurants price higher but you get a bucket of curry or rice and EXACTLY the same amount of protein! Suggest you have an appy, main or 2, Kerala Paratha is a definite. We left with extra take out orders for my son, brother and for ourselves; in addition to what we couldn't finish! Had the Chicken Biryani I had brought home - great Kerala taste, which is different from other Biryani's - trust me I have made many types of biryani. This has flavours of Fennel Seeds, Pepper, Curry Leaves. Very different and flavourful.. So, for all the times I've been asked, "You're from India, which restaurant do you recommend" ...you have my answer!

Food was fantastic and authentic. Must stop place for anyone who visits Surrey. Also ordered a lot of take out food to take back to Seattle.

Solid Spot in the Mall, But Some Temperature Issues…read more This was my first time at this particular Ustaad G location, though I'm familiar with the chain. It's situated inside a shopping mall and was pleasantly clean and not too crowded when I visited. I was seated right away, and the waitress was excellent--attentive and checked on me multiple times to ensure everything was good. I ordered my all-time favourite, the Amritsari Kulcha. The bread itself was fantastic and arrived piping hot, just as it should. However, the dish was a bit inconsistent. While the kulcha was hot, the accompanying chickpeas and condiments were only lukewarm. As a former restaurant owner myself, I'm a stickler for this: hot food should be served hot across the board. The portion size was okay, but the garnish was surprisingly minimal--just a few sparse pieces of carrot that looked a bit sad in the tray (see my photo). Despite that, the core flavours were enjoyable. It's not the same as what you'd find in Amritsar, but it's a satisfying dish. Pricewise, well this is Canada and in line with the economy. My Ratings: Ambience: 4/5 - Clean and modern. Service: 5/5 - Prompt and very attentive. Food & Value: 3.5/5 - Tasty, but the temperature issue and skimpy garnish hold it back. A good meal, but with a little more attention to detail on the kitchen line, it could be a great one.

Both were very tasty (authentic, not watered down to cater to the masses/non-Indians). And very filling. I actually ordered a second Choley + Puri because it was so good, but then I had to take it to go because I was full...but I wanted to keep eating because the food was so tasty! Very friendly dude in the front, and he was happy to help identify the dishes that were already vegan or could easily be made vegan. 10/10 would recommend. We'll definitely be going back for more. FYI, for any vegans reading this review - this place (Namdhari) makes the food from scratch, unlike a lot of other Indian places we called in the area. The other places told us that they pre-make the bases (i.e. tarka) which include dairy (butter, ghee), so they aren't able to veganize their dishes.

The venue is quite large, and it was packed. There is also a covered N facing patio, which I am sure is nice in the summer evenings. The interior decor is definitely on the fancier side. Staff were scrambling all over. Place sure was busy. The selection is definitely quite remarkable. There are dozens of curries (most I've seen anywhere), and stations for salad, meat, and dessert. The lineups are honestly a bit chaotic, and some lines moved much faster than others for some reason. The trick is to pace oneself and hit each station individually. Also helps to carry 2 plates. Food quality was honestly average. It is a buffet after all. With that said, I definitely got my fill. Be sure to leave some room at the end for ice cream. The place is definitely worth trying once for the experience.

There are 2 locations - this location can walk in to order any kind of samosa, while the other location will require preorder 1 day notice for samosas that are not the potato & peas original one. I went here on a Saturday 11am and there was a good amount of people picking up bulk orders, but since we wanted to try the quality of the samosas, we ordered by the piece. Each piece is around 1-2 CAD each which is very good price. We got 1 of each (potato & peas (original), garden mix vegetables, beef, chicken, paneer, and butter chicken). We got a small tamarind chutney sauce for 0.50CAD extra. Total was around 9 CAD which is quite a solid price for a meal for 1 person (snack for 2 people). I liked their potato & peas (original) the most and all their vegetarian options are solid. The meat options are more ground meat so I'm not that big of a fan, but they're still good. It's just the value lies in the vegetarian samosas. Next time I bring a cooler and order in bulk, to enjoy at the comfort of my home for multiple meals!

The price of the samosa is also decent, starting from $1.10 or so, much cheaper than in the Indian restaurants. I don't like that the sauce is not included and you have to pay extra for that.
