My family & me visited Shudh Vaishnao Dhaba last Saturday for lunch .The place was packed with "breakfast goers" even though time was past 1400 hrs!
This Restaurant is a pure vegetarian restaurant catering to Punjabi cuisine ONLY . The Menu presented on wooden tablets, showed that it mainly consisted of Paneer Dishes, Rajma & Channa Masala. The Vegetable offerings were spartan -an Egg plant curry, Okra stir fried, Mix veg (again mixed with paneer) & potato cauliflower dish. There were NO other vegetables in the menu which was full of various paneer combinations. This lack of fresh garden vegetables like Cabbage, Cauliflower, Carrots, Beans, Beet Root & other dishes in dry or spicy curry (without any Paneer added to it) was disappointing & it limited the choices for a client (like myself who does not like either Paneer, Rajma or Channa Masala dishes).
A Punjabi Thali was listed but when we enquired were told that the Vegetables included in it were again Paneer, Rajma & Channa Masala. A Jeera rice was the only Rice offering. No substitution of vegetables was permitted.
A Parotta Thali was also listed , but here again apart from the Parotta's which had a cup of Curd with it, there was NO Dhal or vegetables offered with it & we had to order the " very expensive" Eggplant curry ( bland & tasteless) to accompany the parotta's. There were no rice dishes on offer .
A Chilli Cheese starter was ordered (again consisting of Paneer) with Capsicum , Onions in gravy which was very good.
Other than the disappointing menu & lack of real vegetables or rice dishes, the saving grace were the Parotta's in Ghee which were good & wholesome with potato or cauliflower filling. Light watery butter milk (called Chas) was offered complimentary with salt, pepper & chas spice.
Service was good by Ms.Birpal , who was efficient & pleasing.
Overall the restaurant can be termed " mediocre" for their limited menu, lack of proper dishes & lack of variety . Food which we ordered however was tasty -though bland.
The Owners should seriously consider including proper vegetables in the Thali Meals & also for Parotta Thali to include a Dhall & a try fried Vegetable to make it wholesome -specially for non punjabi patrons like us.
We may consider visiting the restaurant again in future -only for the Parottas. read more
