As a shorty, I am in constant need to getting my pants altered! So happy to have found Sara's Alternations located in the Country Club mall. This family-run business only takes cash and you have to pay upfront. I've had numerous pants taken up here - haven't paid more than $14 for a hem. They've done a great job and it's convenient for me to go to this location. I like supporting local businesses and their prices seem pretty reasonable. I've been coming to Sara for all my alteration needs for many years. It's difficult for me to find pants off the rack that fit well. All during my working career I have to wear slacks and dress shirts and occasionally a suit. Sara does great work. On a couple occasions a moth or something got to some of my wool items. I took them to her not knowing if she could mend them or not. With the exception of one time they came out perfectly. The one time I wasn't happy she told me to come back in a couple days. She redid the work and I walked out a happy customer. And best of all I think her prices are very reasonable! read more

My husband and I brought in three shirts that needed to be taken up in the length and two of them needed to be narrowed in the waist as well. Sarah was awesome and pinned them while he tried each shirt on. She told us that they would be ready in a week and gave us our ticket. My 2nd experience with Sara's Alterations was just as wonderful as my first! I took my trench coat that needed hemming up and Sara did an amazing job. It is perfect...and the back of the coat has a flap and that do had to be altered - Perfectly done!! I wanted a extra long scarf made from 2 scarfs to make into 1. I actually thought Sara would probably decline to do that for me...but she didn't hesitate. And the scarf is exactly as I described to her and I cannot find where Sara put the 2 together!! Sara is a credit to her craft beyond words!! The beautiful work she does, the affordable price for such precise workmanship, notwithstanding Sara and her son Rodney are very professional and courteous to their customers and that is every reason I will continue to visit Sara's for any future alterations. I walked in on Saturday last week to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed. Sara was quick and nice and my dress was ready to be picked up by the following Saturday. Hemming was neat and the length was perfect. $55 for a hem. Not sure what the going rate is for that, since this is my first time taking a dress in for that service. Would go there again. Untalented, Unprofessional, and Unprepared. These are the 3 words I can use for this shop. The owner, Ms. Sara, is not fit to work on people's garments. I came in with a very expensive $400 leather jacket and requested alterations. After waiting, I was presented with a hack job that did not satisfy the expectations set by the tailor. The inner lining of the jacket was not attached, and the stitches up the midline were not finished. They offered me a discount because the jacket needed to be pressed. I can now see that this discount was to get me out of the store before discovering their wrongdoing. After I brought up my dissatisfaction, I was met with criticism from Ms. Sara, who said that the condition of the leather was not good enough to perform quality work. That didn't stop her from cutting into my jacket and lying about it! I suggest calling the customer and explaining that a service cannot be performed, instead of doing irreparable damage. read more

My review is solely on getting a quote for an alteration. I ended up taking my dress elsewhere, but I wanted to share my experience. First, you need to know that they only take cash and check, no credit cards. That's not an issue, but I don't carry cash, so I thought I'd mention it. They were very polite when I came in and I was able to just walk in and put my dress on. I bought this dress for my daughters wedding a while back and I am pretty much a size or two smaller now. Without getting into too much detail, the dress was too big. The back literally stood off from my shoulders, and she kept saying that's OK when I asked her to tighten that up. The waist area was also too big but she said that's OK. I think they just didn't want to deal with it because the waist area is beaded, And the top fabric layer is all mesh with appliqués. They were going to charge me $155 to hem the dress, remove the bra pads, tighten the shoulder area (which I had to insist on three times). As I mentioned, they also only take cash and wanted the full amount upfront. No deposit. Like I wasn't going to pick up my $600 dress after the alteration. It all just didn't feel right to me and I ended up taking my dress and going elsewhere. I yelped a nearby shop, and I am glad I did! It was a completely different vibe, she immediately saw the shoulder thing and told me that's no issue, and also right away told me I needed to takeoff 3 inches so you could see my waist and keep the shape of the dress. The wait time is a bit longer, because the shop was so busy, but it's still within two weeks and I pay when I pick up my dress. I will review the shop when I pick up my dress. read more
