Terrible experience! For starters, our waiter was unfriendly and did not properly wait on our table. He maybe came to our table 3 times during our meal. Mostly importantly, our meal lacked taste and color. As a former restaurant industry employee, you could tell that ingredients weren't fresh. Overall this place is garbage. First of all our waiter messed up my dads salad. I ordered mozzarella sticks and the marinara sauce looked and tasted like it was scraped out of a trash can on Bourbon Street, and I'm a kid and never have been on Bourbon Street. It was burnt also. The mozzarella stick was plain but tasted like an average mozzarella stick. I turned the marinara sauce upside down in its cup for a good 2 minutes and didn't even move the slightest bit. Then, I got my steak which had an awful seasoning which made it terrible. My sweet potato was decent but was cold because of the amount of cold butter they placed on the sweet potato. Went to Santa Fe, in Hammond LA last night and I had the pleasure of having the most incredible waitress Ms. Melissa. She was so kind, and as busy as she was; she always made it point to take care of every request. She reminded me of one of my aunt's completely southern and loving. She took our order with precise detail and made sure we always had a drink at the table. She gave us many compliments after working a hard day. She always knew how to make us smile every time she approached the table. She encouraged us to try additional things on menu and described them in descriptive detail. She even told us that the fried pickles were a new product that we had to try, and they were delicious. Ms. Melissa was training someone when she was at our table, and she was thorough, yet polite when providing additional direction to the new server. She even made sure to go back to the kitchen and get me extra cheese for my loaded baked potato. She did not stop until we were completely satisfied. She told us about the drink specials for that night, so of course we had to indulge in that too. Ms. MELISSA is the most attentive waitress I have ever had. She truly wants everyone to have an outstanding experience there at Santa Fe Cattle Co. You have to go and request her personally. She is a hard worker and goes the extra mile to keep the customers smiling. Santa Fe, I hope you realize what a diamond you have with her. read more

Me, my wife, my niece, and her baby ate here tonight. I ordered the Mr. Goodtime Burger, My wife ordered a steak medium, my niece ordered a steak well done. We all ordered cokes. My order was correct. My wifes steak was well done. My nieces steak was med. well. So thats 2 strikes already. We ordered an appetizer. We did not recieve it at all. 3 strikes. Then we ordered 2 to go orders at the same time we ordered our food. We finished our food and we still haven't recieved our to go orders. They finally gave them to us approximately 45-50 mins. after we finished eating around 6:20. We did not leave the restuarant until 7:25ish. On top of all of those mistakes, we never got a refill the entire duration of our visit. Overall this was probably the worst restaurant I've been to this year. If I had a 10 rating scale. I have had problems ordering over the phone for pickup for several weeks now. Never giving them my business again. I called tonight to place a simple phone order for pickup. 2 Salads. Requested to pay over the phone (Every time I ask them to pay over the phone the hostess acts like I'm asking her to do the most difficult task she could ever imagine). I was initially placed on hold for 5 mins, she picked up like she had no clue what I was on hold for and took my food order. Forgot I asked to pay over the phone (shocker) and when I reminded her she placed me on hold again this time for 10 mins. When she finally picked back up she took my card info and said she was just now putting my order in even though my husband was already 5 mins away to pick up the food I started ordering 15 minutes before. I asked the hostess how she could possibly be JUST putting my order in when I had placed it with her 10 minutes earlier and she ACTUALLY told me that the people coming in the door were her first priority and that she only had time to take my order AFTER they were taken care of. Like my money isn't just as good as theirs! Wtf. When my husband went to pick up the food he asked her how she could be so unprofessional to me and she was so glued to her phone she barely even looked at him. The service here is repulsive!! So Hammond is a reasonably small town with not a lot of dining options. I pass through this town when visiting my wife's family and have made a personal vow never to be dragged to Don's again. That being the case, this place which apparently is reasonably new came up as an option. While not actually stated as being such, this place is supposed to be kind of a tex/mex/bbq place which right there is probably part of the problem. They have a bit of an identity problem, with an overbundance of "flair", and a severe shortage of clear vision in terms of food style. First the positives - The service is friendly, the place is clean, the drinks were strong, the rolls and honey butter are good. The negative - Negative is almost too strong a term for this place. Tragically bland. I ordered the chipotle half rack baby back ribs and they were very dry. The fired cheese was nicely done but they were very large and few in number. Better would have been more and smaller. Plus the dipping sauce had either molasses or honey in it which didn't go with the cheese well at all. We also ordered the queso which was very forgettable. So while better than Don's, I hoping the next time I pas through Hammond their are better options. read more

Took a recommendation from a friend. Atmosphere is like the Texas Roadhouse, however not the same quality food. Drinks were great in large glasses. I ordered the Rib-eye steak 16oz. Flavor was OK, but I through half the steak away. You say why not reorder, well I did not have the time. My schedule was tight, due to business. The baked potato was the best part of the meal. Steak was tough, full of gristle and more fat than a typical rib-eye should have. Ordered the onions and mushroom topper. Onions were severely under cooked. Mushrooms were ok, but lacked flavor and juice. I would not eat here twice. The quality of the meat on my plate and my parties plates were not worth taking another chance on. Our waitress was great, but great help can't save a restaurant that serves poor quality meat. After all, they do call it the Santa Fe Cattle Company of Louisiana. I would expect to find a decent steak, especially one with this price. After reading other reviews about this place, I wished I would have checked here first, but when out with someone your entertaining and the request it, well you have to go with the request. Nothing to write home about but they do have decent food. If you're looking for the overly-rustic stylized Texas joint, here it is. Loudest restaurant I've been to in my life. My family and I could only just stare at each other and the cowboy-kitsch everywhere because we couldn't hear a word each other might say...3 feet apart. Absurd. Food took a while to come and my aunts order arrived wrong. The waiter being told same apologized and made it right. After waiting another 20 minutes to come to the table. We've stopped in here a couple of times coming back from Baton Rouge. It's your basic Texas themed chain restaurant located on the outer edge of the mall at Hammond. There is always a bucket of peanuts waiting for you when you sit down to a table. The server comes by with a basket of fresh rolls and honey butter, along with the menu. I tend to order the chicken fried steak, with white gravy over the mashed potatoes and green beans. My complaint is there never seems to be enough gravy. My wife has tried several items but seems to prefer the chicken slider & burger slider combo. She gets her protein, but doesn't have to deal with a lot of bread. I do make the sacrifice of eating the rolls so she won't be tempted by them. There is a dessert menu, but I never pay attention to it as I'm generally full by that time. I have been coming here since it opened 5 or 6 years ago and overall it's good, not great. I would recommend this place for a lunch or lunch meeting rather than a dinner meeting unless your looking for a really informal dinner. The prices are fair and the food is above average when compared to popular chains like Applebee's or Chilis but this isn't a fine steakhouse. The burgers are good as are the sandwiches and chili. The last few times the service was really nice (the server was super polite and kept the drinks filled) but the meals were painfully slow. This latest time we went for lunch as a group of 6 and it was over 90 minutes before we were done and we all ate the main meal in 10 minutes. The salads and soup came quick and then it was 50 to 60 minutes for sandwiches. Yikes. For now it's 3 stars until I see an improvement in service time. Enjoy! read more

This was a fun place to visit in Hammond with the peanuts where you can throw the shells on the floor which is always a good atmosphere. We sat at the bar during the snowstorm. They were really busy but we got great service. I had the taco salad and it was decent, hard to mess that up. We also shared a fried twinkie, it was amazing. read more

Bland, bland, bland. I got a steak here and regretted it as soon as it hit the table. It wasn't cooked right and it had the grey pallor of an extra on the Walking Dead. I had gotten onions and mushrooms added to it. The onions were still crunchy and tasted pretty raw. Awful. I managed to power through it, but I really didn't want to. It was the first time in a long time that I found myself craving some steak sauce to put on the meat. My fiance had ordered the vegetable quesadillas and got similarly undercooked vegetables. I've eaten here once or twice before and it was pretty decent but today the food and service were HORRIBLE. My grandmother, mother and I were not given any silverware, napkins or refills. When our food finally came out it was cold and my burger was overcooked. My grandmother was missing a side that she ordered along with her ribs. The waitress spilled water all over the table and floor and proceeded to walk away without drying it. It missed my grandma by inches. I will not be back, such a disappointment. read more

Second time, they waited until the food was coming out to let us know that they were out of what one of our party members ordered. The third visit can only be described as a dumpster fire of an experience. The worst service I've had at a restaurant in quite some time. Our waitress, Amiah, would frequently disappear throughout the experience. She seemed interested in gossiping. I hate giving wait staff a hard time because I know we're all human and trying to earn a living but at least do the job. Multiple other staff had to bring out our food after I assume it had been sitting out for too long. We ordered 2 steaks, that were undercooked. We sent them back, and they came back charred and over cooked. A large group of us went here tonight at the suggestion of the hotel staff where we are staying. Just speaking for my wife and I this was a bad idea. The place is nice enough and the staff was friendly. We all ordered and considering the size of the group it all came out in a decent amount of time. They forgot the sweet potato for two people and never brought it out at all until we said something at the end. I had the rack of ribs. They tasted fine but there was more fat on these ribs then probably anywhere else I've been. My wife got the Coconut Shrimp dinner and we both agreed these had no Coconut in the mix whatsoever. Had the Nacho Grande with Steak. Awesome except they dumped a little too much salt on it. Other than that, awesome food.

It was suggested this place was the best out of the abundance of food spots in Hammond. I should have read the comments before going. Another review said it best that Santa Fe has an identity crisis. Too many options that they can't perfect their dishes. I ordered fajitas, how can you destroy such a wonderful dish... Well make sure the onions look like they have sat in a bath of water, burnt chicken and the dish isn't hot when it comes out. Now, it just wasn't my dish either. The other dishes looked poor, my friends didn't say anything however they didn't finish their food either. This is not saying much for the other restaurants if this is the best there. read more
