I received a refrigerator which had paint overspray on the interior, crisper drawers and hinges. The refrigerator has a unpleasant paint smell which I cleaned multiple times with a bleach cleaning spray to no avail. It taints the food with a bad smell and taste. Upon delivery there was dried bird poop on the top of the refrigerator. The bottom line is the refrigerator was not clean upon delivery there is paint overspray and a very unpleasant odor still lingering inside. When I spoke with the office she was very rude and said this is the refrigerator that your landlord picked you need to talk to them. read more

I called to find out with whom they contract to receive their used appliances and was informed that they work with one specific "wholesaler" and are not open to contracting with other wholesalers or suppliers. They also do not sell brand new in box appliances, as this condition of equipment is not provided by their wholesaler. Beware of potential appliances that "are falling off the back of a truck" or stolen appliances being sold. Otherwise, the appliances aren't reliable. read more

I went in to the store at 10:20 am . Bought a fridge in five minutes with the help of a very nice young man. Did the paperwork with a lovely lady. She told me she was able to do the delivery today. Two very nice conscientious men came to my house with my new refrigerator within an hour. I barely made it home to empty the fridge and they were there with my refurbished fridge. The delivery guys were cool while I frantically removed my items from my fridge. They were very careful removing the old fridge (10 bucks) and gave me time to clean the floor and wall before they installed the fridge. I can't say enough about how wonderful they were. Charge too much. I use to by from them all the time. They will come out in a timely manner, but their fees are too high. Normally their estimates very high and they cannot fix your item and then you have to pay them a trip charge or come by another one. read more

They took the smelly washer away and brought back the washer repaired. It's been over a week and it's still working, so that's good. Nothing more to say on it but to give them one more star for finally getting us a working washer back. Update: I deducted the amount I spent cleaning the washer/dryer out of my rent and put up my lovely review. I guess they found out about my not so nice review and wrote me to 1) explain the washer/dryer unit is new (okay, and it should work then, right?), 2) to apologize for giving us a smelly loaner machine in the meantime, and 3) to then explain that they didn't have to give us a loaner and that they could have kept us without another washer for another couple of weeks, and to 4) to request that I update my review, which I did above. However, it's the morning of July 4th, we tried to put in a load (actually half of a load as we were told a full load is too much for that model of washer - see pic). It's NOT working. It's less that 4 weeks later, and it's not working again. My boyfriend has officially flown through the roof, and I got a call from Santa Clara Appliances explaining that the management company bought the washer, they've tried to fix it and can't. And that a new washer/dryer should be bought. Let's see what happens now. As I appreciate the phone call, I've added a star. read more

Going on 7 weeks to replace a glass for an oven door that either has or hasn't been back ordered. They've had to restart the process several times without an explanation why it wasn't back ordered. Hopefully it will be done by Thanksgiving so we bake a turkey. read more

I came in and thought I needed this one part for my oven. The worker who helped me told me that I don't need that part and instead needed an ignitor. He then listened to my problem with another oven and said I need the same part. He produced two new factory ones and sent me on my way. I really wanted to like Santa Clara Appliance because I like to support local, independent businesses (especially in the 'hood,) but I had a terrible experience. Here are the deets: I bought a used stove for one of my rental units for $250. It was clean and nice looking. A crew came out the next day to install it. They tested it and said it was good to go. Call-back #1: A few days later Gigi, my tenant, called me and said it wasn't heating properly. I made arrangements to meet the crew at the unit and they worked on it and said they fixed it. Call-back #2: My tenant called me soon afterwards and said she thought the temperature gauge was off. I suggested that she buy an oven thermometer to see if that's the case. She did, tested it, and called me back to say the temp inside the oven was very different than the temp she turned the "dial" to. I called Santa Clara Appliance again, they sent out a crew which replaced the entire temperature apparatus and told me that this time it was definitely fixed. Call-back #3: It was NOT fixed. This time when I called them they said they would replace it with another stove. We made an appointment, they took away the first stove and installed a second stove. I asked them to please test it and make sure it worked. They tested it and said it was fine. Call-back #4: I was appalled when Gigi called me a couple days later to tell me the new stove wasn't working. The owner, who is really nice, was apologetic and said she'd get someone out to look at it the next day. He tested it and worked on it and told me it was now working. He explained that when his company fixes stoves they check them on both gas and propane tanks and there's a switch on the stove ("NG" for gas and "PR" for propane) that had not been switched back to work on gas. (Wouldn't you think the guys who install the stove should have checked to make sure the stove was set to work with gas?!) This man also told me the story behind my problem with the first stove. He said that they get in stoves and fix them and then clean them. For some reason the first stove they sold me had been cleaned first and so the folks at the store thought it was also fixed. They had sold me a stove that didn't work from the start. What a nightmare. My tenant was hugely inconvenienced to not have a working stove for a month and I have had to go back to her apartment four times for up to an hour each time to babysit people who kept telling me that the stove was fixed. If this store were in Piedmont or Montclair it would never have survived. People in the 'hood (have to) put up with too much BS. Don't waste your time at Santa Clara Appliance--you'd be better off asking the next overworked yuppie where he or she gets appliances--people with lots of money expect good service from the start. Our landlord sent these jokers to fix our refrigerator. On the first visit, not only did the guy fail to fix the fridge, but he pulled out a bunch of filth and junk from underneath the fridge and left it strewn all over our counters and kitchen floor. Wtf??? Then, after about a month, the guy finally came back with the right part, but after he fixed the fridge, he left more dirt and garbage all over our kitchen!!! Are you serious? Well, here I am a few weeks later. I really did not have time to deal with the fridge until now. But it appears that a cover or something is broken off of the refrigerator right behind the crisper drawers (wires showing). AND everything in the drawers is freezing. Solid. Electrolux says that is not right. Must have been broken during delivery. I have to think the guys at Santa Clara did it, since what are the odds that I should encounter more ineptitude from another source during one job? Just sayin'. We have been going through Santa Clara Appliances for the past 10 years for all our repairs, purchasing new and used washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators. The staff is knowledgeable, honest, and courteous---they will let you know if your appliance can be fixed with a simple part, or if it should be replaced. No gimmicks or pressure to purchase a whole new appliance if it's not needed. Usually when we give them a call, they are present the same day or the next day. My family owns several boarding care homes, which requires a lot of cooking, dirty dishes, and laundry for multiple clients...our appliances are always overworked. Their prices are great. I've referred them to several of our friends who also own boarding care homes in the Tri City area- Fremont, Newark and Hayward, and Santa Clara Appliances has been their go appliance shop for several years as well. read more

My family owns a couple of apartment complexes and our day jobs keeps us quite busy so it's a challenge at times to keep up with our units. Santa Clara Appliances have been our go to guys for repairs and purchases. We've used them many times (all for different units of course) and thus have developed a great working relationship. We have purchased fridges, washers/dryers and stoves from them. They are very knowledgeable and courteous. We just pick up the phone, tell them what we need. They contact the tenants ,get the job done, and send us the bill. My wife and I purchased a frigidaire stackable washer and dryer and a refrigerator from Santa Clara Appliance in October 2010. When we were looking at the washer and dryer, I located the model number and serial number on the inside of the dryer door. I wanted to look the machine up and see if there were any concerns. We paid for the machine, and was given a 6 month warranty. it was delivered in November 2010. The machine worked fine until today. It started making a strange noise and I eventually discovered that the belt had slipped off the pulley. I tried calling Santa Clara appliance but you can not leave a message after hours andit was too early for them to be there. I decided to look at the cost of a belt replacement and opened the dryer door to copy the model number and serial number. The metal tag was missing. I called a parts supplier and asked them how to find the model number if the plate on the inside of the door was missing. I was told there was no way to do this. I asked why the tag would be missing and was told that some used appliance dealers do this to force you to call them for repairs. I was frustrated that Santa Clara would do something like this because I actually trusted them and never thought they would pull something like this. I drove over to Santa Clara appliance as they were not answering their phone (I am in the Emeryville area and they are East Oakland). The owner wanted to give me the model number off of a similar piece of equipment stating that the parts were all the same. I left letting him know that removing an identifying tag from an appliance is probablly illegal but at the very best it is unethical. He wanted to come over to our house and take a part off of the machine and use it to back track to a model number. That was not acceptable. I reattached the belt myself but will have to learn how to take the machine apart to remove the belt and take it in to get a replacement. We spent close to $1000 with these people. I would consider all of my options very carefully before spending any money with them. I have lost all respect for them because I know that metal tag was removed inbetween the time we purchased that machine and time they delivered it. I consider that horribly unethical. We bought a washer and dryer from Santa Clara because they are in our neighborhood and they are in our price range. Santa Clara made it possible for us to stop spending all of our money at a laundromat because their products are affordable. We chose our washer and dryer after reading product reviews for a few specific models. The man we worked with was really helpful, knowledgable, and courteous. We purchased a really beautiful High Efficiency Washer and Dryer for about half of what it would have cost new. They brought it to our house and installed it the same day. There was a minor installation glitch (I don't recall what) but they were very responsive and dealt with it immediately and effectively. The Dryer works great and has never had a problem. Unfortunately the washer has had its problems. It stopped working (a circuit board problem) and they replaced the same part twice in a couple of weeks. They loaned us a washer when they took ours away to fix it - which was really generous and much appreciated. after another 5 months the washer stopped working and is showing the same error code... pesky circuit boards!!! I went in and talked to them about it and they agreed to fix it even though our warranty ended a couple of months ago. I imagine this is because it has been having problems the whole time. I wouldn't necessarily expect the same if we'd never had a problem before now. They said if this doesn't fix it then they will look into getting us a replacement. Their responsiveness and willingness to fix the washer or replace it is a really important act of good faith. I immensely respect that they are working with us to get us a machine that works. This is an admirable business practice. We may be in the market for a freezer soon and we will definitely look to see if they have what we need. Owning a small business is difficult, challenging, and uncertain. These folks are all really hard workers, that is obvious just walking in the door. I wish them success. read more

I've worked with Santa Clara Applainces for 10+ years now for applainces for several apartments that I own. They have been great, they always have good prices, nice, clean appliances and are quick on the delivery. I've also called them for repairs on older appliances, they either fix the issue quickly or let me know if it's just not cost-effective to fix. I can usually get a service call within a day's time, that helps a lot when dealing with apartments. This company was referred to me many years ago by one of my clients and I now recommend them to people that have a need for clean, used appliances. read more

I bought a refrigerator, oven/stove, washer and dryer from them all at great prices. After having the appliances for over 10 years, I only had to call them out once for each item over a period of time. They were able to fix them each time, but I did have to buy a new dryer after I was told the part is expensive so I might as well just buy another dryer and what they were gonna charge me for fixing it would go towards the "new" dryer, which was great. I love how reasonable the prices are and they also come out quickly for repairs. read more

I just bought a washer and dryer about $215, $220 each, that was the average price, this includes a 4 month warranty. $20 extra for delivery, instillation, hauling of old machine. Family owned business, not pushy and not sleazy. They checkout and repair all the machines before they sell them. I decided craigslist was too sketchy for appliances, there were so many warnings about scammers, not worth it. read more
